Hurricane Isaac
Posted 13 years agoSo I sparked a fire on twitter with posting how I am tired of all the complaining about the flooding happening down south in the areas that are being inundated by hurricane Isaac. The people knew what happened in years past with Katrina, yet they decided to move back in again. In my opinion, these people should deal with the problem themselves. They knew what could and probably would happen.
Some of the complaints I have received, with names removed:
"What about those that live with their parents or relatives and didn’t have a choice? They just get to deal with it too?"
":-/ Not even children, college students ish too. I’m thinking of one of our pups in particular who I couldn’t be more worried about"
Its a shame that the children of those who live in that area are forced to deal with the issue of their daft elders. Many of them may not be at an age of reasoning that would allow them to understand what sort of circumstances they are being subject to. This furthers my anger towards their caretakers; forcing them to live in an area where such conditions exist and ignore those conditions blindly. It is the responsibility of their caretakers to ensure that their children are as protected as themselves.
As for the college students, a few more replies I received first:
"That's incredibly narrowminded of you. If you're a LA resident, you stay in state to get better tuition"
"Not everyone qualifies to get into LSU. You go where you're accepted and can afford."
"to let you know.. this is the ONLY college in the state that offers my classes so shut the fuck up.."
Doing a quick Google search pulls up a plethora of universities and other college systems in the state of Louisiana that aren't down in the New Orleans area or surrounding suburbs. I'm sure there are even more than the quick-glance list of roughly 30 that I saw. Of these, 75% of them are not LSU colleges. As for only one college in the entire state offering education/training on a certain subject, I highly doubt that.
"wow…. I wondered what kind of person you were. Some people can’t afford to go to expensive colleges."
I didn't go to an expensive college and I am doing just fine. It has been shown that many community colleges offer the same or better education at a much more reasonable price than many "expensive, big name" universities. If those people are dead set on going to a university, they can look abroad. I did some classes and training at out of state universities. They didn't pound me into the ground with excessive credit-hour costs, and the level of education provided was quite exemplary.
"A Bit sanctimonious, but is that the sympathy you'd like extended to you when a tornado trashes homes, or a drought kills crops?"
I'm sure by this point, yes, I sound like a bigot. At the same time I'm able to look at what has happened around me and plan for things. If I were to live in an area that I knew could flood and has flooded in the past, and I didn't want to deal with the flooding again, guess what? I'd get out of there. The same goes for if I lived in an area known to have other problems, be they man-made or environmental. Common sense tells us look at the problem, come up with a list of solutions and proceed with one that makes sense based on the constraints we have.
Did I say that they 100% needed to move from where they are? No, I haven't. But at the same time they should plan for whatever issues may arise. In this case, the issue is the fact that New Orleans: is a flood zone, next to the ocean and built lower than the sea level. If someone sneezes the wrong way water goes over the ocean walls built to "protect" the city. Either move from there to higher ground or deal with it. Homeowners insurance is a cost and inconvenience, but at the same time, why should everyone else have to pay for their actions? Especially when this scenario happened 7 years ago. We saw what happened then, why would it be any different now?
I welcome your replies here or on twitter. My only request is that you keep them civil.
The arguments laid out are solely my opinions. It does not reflect the opinions of any organizations or employees of any organizations I work for or with.

Cons I'll Be At - 2012 Edition
Posted 13 years agoFeeling icky and unable to sleep, I figured i might as well post what cons I'll be at for the remainder of the year.
August: Indy Fur Con - I'll be working medical staff, but the con itself is pretty laid back. Feel free to come say hey and stuff. I'll probably have plenty of free time to hang out and do whatever.
September: Furlaxation - I'm the head of security and medical at this con. I might be busy, might not. No idea till the con starts! Again, feel free to come say hello, and hopefully I'll have the nights free to do whatever. :)
November: MFF! - I'm still debating if I'll be working medical staff at this convention. I honestly am not too happy with who they have running it, but I personally don't want to run the medical department. Also.. THIS IS MY HOMETOWN CON! Due to this, I'mm be throwing my hugely popular parties again! Thursday through Monday AM of parties! OMG. Last year was pretty crazy. Cant wait for the fun this year! :)
Other than that, yea, that is about it. Nothing else is planned.
Oh well, back to trying to sleep again. Hopefully round 2 of meds will let me zonk. x.x

Think before you act
Posted 13 years agoThe people this is directed at know who they are.
During my 24 hour shifts I may clean up your chemical spills that are incompatible with life, save your pets from burning buildings, help bring your new pride and joy into the world and/or bring your loved ones back from the brink of death. I get berated, punched, spit on and demoralized while trying to perform my job. I've had gunfire flying overhead while trying to get a patient into my rig to provide them the help they need. Through all this, I haven't flinched or thought twice about the job in front of me.
You sit in a college dorm, draw dog dicks / wear an animal costume, and talk about how big of an awesome badass you are. Take a minute and use your brain before you start flapping your jaws. Your shit doesn't smell like roses. Do some good for the world, then we'll talk. Till then, I'm not going to bother wasting my time on you again.

MFF Post Con Report
Posted 14 years agoHOLY SHIT!
I think that pretty much sums up the entire con in two words. During the parties, we went through 2 grand of booze, 2 1/2 barrel kegs of beer. That is 350 pints of beer. Booze itself needed to be measured by gallons. We also had the police there 2 nights in a row to close us at 4 AM. :P (fucking hotel putting non con-goers on the party floor!!)
Everything else went pretty smoothly for the most part. Lots of fun was had all around, and many new friends were made. Have pictures or video from the parties? Please, send them my way! I'd love to make a collage with all the images :)
Hope everyone else had a fun and crazy time at the con, and I'll see you all next year starting with FCN!

Room 366
Posted 14 years agoI find it hilarious how butthurt people are. Most of the people in the video are laughing about it. The ones that aren't along with those who weren't involved and crying need to seriously grow up. It was posted on youtube. Listed or not, it was made easily available. Obviously someone wanted to share the video, and we are where we are at now. I personally find it sexy, but the video was done in good taste. I've seen regular videos on youtube that are worse than that. :P
And with that, the video in hi-def: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJU0q9p4Aew
Enjoy!

Looking for MFF Roomies!
Posted 14 years agoThats right, its that time of year again. :) MFF is rolling up quick! I currently have space for 7 more roomies in my roomblock. Its the same deal as last year, 4 people per room so everyone gets bedspace. I can try and room you with friends if you guys talk to me about it first :) I'll be keeping about a grand in booze on hand at all times and VIP suite for parties every night (and whatever you want to use it for during the day). Drama? How about no drama. I've been doing this for a few years, and all I have heard is praise about how awesome it is. You have a problem with someone, or the room, or the hotel? Bring it to me. I get things taken care of swiftly.
The parties: I throw parties nightly on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Last year, the Sunday night party didn't end till 10:30A on Monday! Music, booze, good people, movies on the TV. You cant ask for much more. This year we will be adding a keg of Guinness, and a keg of Landshark. From my experience at AC, shortwave, myself and our roomies, and a small gathering of people were able to kill that sucka in 2 days. Lets see if we can break that record!
For music, DJ Genki said he is more than willing to spin for a night. Last year we had DJ Recca for a few hours, and he'll probably be more than willing to come back for another hour or two this year. Who knows who else we can get!
This year we'll be trying to do some themed parties. What those themes are is up in the air, but we were thinking a tropical paradise for one of them!
The cost: The cost is 175 per person, which guarantees you a spot in a bed Thursday through Monday, access to all the parties I throw, and use of the suite during the day all weekend for whatever your heart desires (just please clean it up when you are done). In the mornings I'll have the door propped open and have coffee brewing, possibly even some breakfast snacks. You just show up, give the front desk your ID and get your roomkey. Simple as that.
If you have any questions or want more information, please feel free to reply to this journal, hit me on twitter at BauerShep, or email me at seven(dot)wolfy(at)gmail(dot)com
Hope to see you all there!

Getting some things straight
Posted 14 years agoI just had someone complain to me on another site about causing drama here about reporting Blazger for his molesting a child. I don't know what people are thinking, but I have copies of his post, and am more than happy to post them up here. As a Paramedic in the state of Illinois, I am a -MANDATED- reporter of suspected child abuse, by law, or I face not only losing my license to practice, but jail time.
Here is a link with the state laws reguarding what I am required to do. Select Illinois, then Mandatory Reporter, and click on GO at the bottom.
http://www.childwelfare.gov/systemw......processSearch
If you like the long form, here is the PDF file for the mandatory reporter laws, followed by the failure to report laws:
http://www.childwelfare.gov/systemw.....utes/manda.pdf
http://www.childwelfare.gov/systemw...../reportall.pdf
By him posting what he did, I had to file a report. Did I need to make it public? Nope, not one bit. I could have remained completely anonymous in this. Did I though? Yes. My reasoning behind this was that everyone was giving him ass-pats and saying that it was OK, and telling him that everyone makes mistakes, and that everything will be just fine. I'm sorry to say, but molesting a kid is not OK, it is very wrong. Not only legally, but morally. At the time this happened, the person he molested / raped was 14.
At 14, a person is still figuring out what the hell is going on in the world. Hell, at 22 I was still figuring out what the heck was going on. A person of that age cannot make rational decisions when faced with what was put upon him. Have sex with me or I won't give you a ride a few states away home? Any minor put in that position would do it just to get out of there, and hope everything ends and they do end up getting home. Most wouldn't think of just walking out, flagging down a cop and reporting it.
To you haters out there that are backing Blazger, put yourself into the kids position. Don't start that "oh murrr" stuff here. You know damn well that if you were in the same position, at the same age, you would have done the same thing, and probably been even more fucked in the head than you already are with backing him.
Anywho, I'm done with this post. Please feel free to reply back with your thoughts, and I'll get back to you later today.

Progress report
Posted 14 years agoSo, I have been out of the hospital about a week now. Things are going very roughly on my end. I was released Thursday afternoon, and Friday early AM I was back in my local hospital for pain management. They dosed me up on 10mg of morphine, monitored me for an hr or so, and sent me home with a bunch of prescriptions to add onto the already large list. I continued to not only have pain when peeing, but peeing blood till Sunday. Not fun. Also, my white bloodcell count was still up at 15, so my infection was still pretty rampant in my kidney.
Sunday, I stopped taking my pain meds so I could make it to academy today for some technical rescue courses im set up for. Big mistake. Sunday was fine, but today was a nightmare. The pain crept up to a 6 out of 10 during the written portion of the class, and about a 9 by the time I got home after the hands on working portion. I am supposed to be in tomorrow, but I have a followup appointment with my doctor, so am taking the day off. I slammed all my meds the second I walked in the door, but to be honest, they aren't working all that great. They hadn't been working much at all really, but it brings the pain down to a somewhat bearable level. My pain management list consists of 2x norco 5/325's, 1 50mg tramadol, 1 10mg toradol (which i can only take once a day), and 1 5mg oxybutynin.
Toradol is a NSAID on crack. Think Tylenol x 100. The problem with it though is that it fries the liver and kidneys, in pretty swift order. Due to that, as I said, I can only take it 1 time a day. When I do take it, it makes things stop swelling and makes whatever swelling there is go down, which is awesome. The problem is, swelling is a big part of the body's recovery system and helps it fight off infection and prevent further injury, so its slowing the healing process.
Oxybutynin is an anti-spasm medication. I'm on it, as there is a stent (think a plastic tube) that goes from my kidney to my bladder. The bladder obviously doesn't like things in it that aren't supposed to be there, so it spasms and grinds against the tube because its foreign, and it wants it out. This causes a shit ton of pain. This helps a bit, but makes it hard to pee, as it relaxes all the smooth muscle there, along with other places. This all backs up to my kidney, causing pain from the pressure there.
The other 2 drugs are obviously pain killers, and they aren't doing much. The things that have helped the most are just laying in bed, and soaking in a warm bath. The heat helps relieve the pain a decent amount, but its still there, especially if I sit up or move around at all.
Tomorrow I get to see my regular doctor, tell him about everything, and see what the game plan will change to. I am going to ask him for better pain medications and see what his response is on that, along with the possibility of getting this stent taken out, as it causes so much fucking pain. They wanted me to keep it in for another week, but I don't think I'll be able to last that long. It really, really hurts. I'll also ask him what exact bacteria is causing my kidney infection, as the hospital really didn't want to let me know a thing about myself, which is really shitty of them. Its not that suprising though as I had to yell at the doctor for over-hydrating me to the point that it was getting hard to breathe.
I'll also have more blood tests run, and hopefully the Cipro they gave me for the infection has done something and started fighting this infection off. The exact terminology for what I have is called " Pyelonephritis ", which is just medical jargon for a kidney infection. It can become very serious, very fast, depending on what exact bacteria it is. I'll be getting in contact with the hospital for a fully copy of my chart from my stay, so I can review things on my own and see what my doctor and myself can come up with.
I'll keep you guys informed I guess, and let you know how things progress.
tl;dr: I am in a shit ton of pain, going to see my doctor tomorrow, and I might need to drop out of academy due to the pain.

Home from the hospital
Posted 14 years agoWell, I'm home. They ended up pumping 10 liters of saline into me. Me and the doc had a fight about her treatment modality, especially for not checking up on me till after I was to be discharged. I gained 8lbs of water weight from all the saline. What did they give me for pain? Norcos. Yea, that took the edge off the headache I had after fighting with the doc, that is it. A friend of mine who is a doc got me some Tramadol, and I called the hospital back and they put me on a urinary incontinence drug that is helping quite a bit, along with ibuprofen and cipro for infection.
Im not out of the woods yet though. This stent is to supposedly stay in me for 1 - 2 weeks, though the doctor I talked to at the hospital on the phone said I would be fine having it removed Monday / Tuesday. I am planning on that happening now, and will be setting up an appointment tomorrow / today.
As far as pain goes, I am in constant pain. The drugs help take the edge off a bit, but the pain scale doesn't reach high enough to hit the point of where I'm at. It actually hurts worse now than when I had the kidney stone and infection itself. The only suggestions the doc on the phone could offer is that if the pain gets too out of control, bring all my paperwork with me to a local ER and have them load me up with dilauded, and possibly a prescription for it. Why they didn't do that in the first place, I have no idea. I really am tired of doctors pussying out on administering proper care, including pain management. Vicodin are not the end all be all. I can understand people getting addicted to medications, but that is also why they have the ability to write scripts with no refills unless you have a doctor's order with a new script.
Anywho, enough ranting. I'm loopy from all these meds, and in a ton of pain. I'll check back up on you all again later. Again, thanks for the get well soon comments on here, twitter, facebook, etc. Its greatly appreciated. And a huge thanks to Woody, Furball2k, and Evan Li for stopping by and checking up on me while I was in the hospital. It really meant a lot.

Stuck in the hospital.
Posted 14 years agoAs the title says, I'm stuck in the hospital. I went into the ER yesterday for s kidney stone and was admitted. At 1pm central time, I went to surgery and had a cystoscopy done. They removed the 3mm stone from my ureter and inserted a mesh stent temporarily in my ureter from my bladder to my kidney. I have been on a diet of dilauded, aloft, versed and fentanyl with proposal for surgery.
Right now I am about to fight with the doc because he is pumping me full of fluid but my urine output is nowhere near enough. If i am still swollen by the AM, I'm having another kidney function test ordered, cbc, and asking for iv lasix to get the fluid out of me.
Anyhow Litre number 8 is finishing up and I'm going to try and get some sleep. I'll post updates later.

FCN MEME
Posted 14 years agoOh baby, FCN. All that hot booze loving. Almost as much as MFF (hahahaha, such a good joke. Nothing beats how much booze I dispense and consume at MFF). I might even do some epic mealtime at the con, we shall see.
So, people are doing this meme thing, lets get to it.
Where are you staying?
Main Hotel with
,
and
Who will you be with?
I'll be chilling out with the Dorsai and security folks, otherwise with my boyfriend Evan. :)
Do you do art trades?
I don't draw, so I guess not!
What suits will you have?
I don't have a suit anymore :( Maybe I'll come out in fire turnouts at some point. :P
Can I touch you?
Whoa thar!
Can I talk to you?
I don't see why not. I don't bite or anything
Can I buy you lots of drinks?
As long as its Guinness or scotch, sure!
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Go for it!
How tall are you?
6' 0"
You look pissed off out of suit. Can I come up to you?
Seeing how I don't have a suit, this is a toughie. Feel free to come up and talk to me, and I'll let you know in a professional, kind way whether now is a good time or not.
Are you cliquey?
I'll chill and drink or talk with just about anyone, as long as it isn't Blazger. :)
Can I stalk you?
No that's just creepy.
How long are you going?
Thursday/Friday through Monday, still deciding on when I'm going to show up.
Do you like parties?
Hell yea!
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Just come on up and start talking :) The only time I wish to be left alone is if I'm dealing with someone who is having a problem of some sort, or in a staff meeting.

Oie, im beat!
Posted 15 years agoI'm -still- trying to recover from MFF! It was quite the awesome weekend. We plowed through about 2200 dollars worth of booze this weekend, hoorah! The tips made during the weekend totaled over $1000! You guys really rock who helped donate! All the left over money is going into a separate account for next year's party!
Thanks again to everyone who helped make it happen, including my boyfriend, Evan Li, Tzup, Jbadger, Nbowa, Portwolf, GoldenZoltan, Draven, Sairys Wolf, Vidar, Draconis, Logarth, Teej, Jiggly Bob, Recca and Kasi Frost. If there was someone I missed by name, accept my apologies, and thanks!
I also want to thank everyone who donated booze to the parties, and everyone who left tips. Without all of you guys, it would be nowhere near possible to keep the alcohol flowing all weekend, and we would have dried up early Saturday evening. I estimate that we had about 1/3 the convention roll through the room at some point in time during the evenings, especially Sunday.
By the time I made it to academy on Monday evening, all the guys looked at me and could only say "Well, I don't think we want to know what you did this weekend.... so go roll up that 100ft feed line". x.x I'm still hurting from the weekend from the knees down, but that just means the weekend was a bunch of fun.
It also seems like everyone in the room blocks issues were very minor. I had a few things with the hotel that I needed to iron out, but they were dealt with quite swiftly. Check-in was a pain in the butt as always, but it only took me about an hour and a half Thursday, compared to the 5 - 7 hours it took the previous year, and checkout was a breeze.
For those of you in the rooms, If you have any issues that need to be taken care of, please, give me a call/text/email/message here, and I'll make sure to get them taken care of. I also want feedback, so if you attended my parties, or were part of the rooms I had, let me know what you thought! Good, bad, whatever! That is the only way I can continually improve what I do.
Now, a lot of you are probably wondering "So... where is the con report?" Well, this is it. All I did all weekend was party, prep for the parties, etcetc. I enjoy doing this stuff. I actually get somewhat bored at cons, as people come by, say hello, then run off and just leave me there, then I have nothing to do. I didn't have a fursuit there due to a long story, but hey whatever.
So yea, It was a weekend full of drunken awesomeness I guess. I actually didn't have much more to drink than a few beers every night, but it seems I was able to help everyone else get their party on. Seeing everyone having a great time due to what I was able to provided made me happy, so that is all that matters in the end.
I'll be booking my rooms and suite later in the week for next year, so... If you want in on it, give me a shout. The cost will probably go up an extra 10 - 15 bucks but its still cheap with what I provide.
That's about it for this post. I hope everyone had a great con, and I'll see you all next year!

MFF!
Posted 15 years agoThats right, MFF is just a hair more than a month away, and they are all out of rooms! I have my mondo con-block again for my party, and have a few rooms left to be filled :) If you are looking to get in on the awesomeness that is my party block, here is some info:
I charge 155 a person. This includes guaranteed bed space from Thursday through Monday, meaning you won't come in scratching your head wondering where you are going to sleep every night of the con. This also guarantees you access to my parties I throw all weekend. This year I have had overwhelming support for the parties, and forsee them being packed, so will need to enforce a limit as to how many people will be able to be there at one time (and working for the fire department, the last thing I need is to break fire code and get yelled at after the weekend).
I also guarantee minimal drama. If you have problems with a roomie being an asshat, give me a shout and I'll iron things out. I don't put up with stupid, so if you are going to come and cause problems, please, dont bother sending me a message.
To lock in your spot, I require payment up front. Money goes to a separate bank account I have designated for the event. You can either deposit it yourself at any chase bank, or send me a money order / paypal payment.
Whether you room in my block or not, I hope to see you all at MFF for some good, fun times. :)
