Archery! And other things
Posted 13 years agoHeeeee! I have a bow! A 30 pound recurve, with all the fruit that comes with, arrows, arm guard, finger guides, and so on. Working on getting the target thing set up squee!
On a more serious note, however, for those in Australia, you may have noticed that the banks are getting their arses sued for fees charged, over drawn, late, and so on, and you may get a cold call from someone saying they are calling on behalf of Fair trades australia or something of the sorts, saying that they are getting your information so that the Fair trades can give you that money back, blah de day.
It is a scam. They will say that they are not, and will have details like your name, the bank you're with, your address. They'll even tell you the first 8 digits of your card. These numbers are generic, they tell what type of card it is, and who it's issued by, and will then ask you to complete the card details. Do NOT give out your information.
Your bank will never cold call you, and they will NEVER ask for your full card details. They are very persistent and irritating. I have just had a day of them being BLAH. I ended up being very very very rude and just banging the speaker part of my phone on the bench. A lot. Before hanging up on them. They called back, and got banged at again. Since they didn't take the hint the first time, and all. I also called my bank, and told them of it, but got the reassurance that my card is safe.
Either way, be very careful, never give out your information over the phone, no matter -how- legit they seem to be.
Gyah! *bangs the phone some more just to get it out!*
I hope you are all happy!

Traditional VS digital art
Posted 13 years agoI have recently had my muse kickstarted back into action -- okay so one or two paintings isn't -really- a kickstart but... it'll do -- and consequently, reminded myself how much I absolutely adore acrylics and painting. It was like ... coming home after a long trip abroad. That open the door, the familiar scent of home and the ease and comfort found in your -own- bed. And only available in your own bed. Or like dinner cooked by your mother, or parent -- guardian of choice -- compared to something made at a restaurant. Just an ease, a familiarity and a level of comfort found in holding a paintbrush that I didn't find with a pencil, or stylus or crayon. Sorry, waxing poetic about something most are all 'I don't care' about.
Which has prompted for my internal discussion and debate. Sure, this is the internet, and it is a -lot- easier to draw digitally to upload it onto the internet for the best clarity and all, and it's easiest for intellectual property, and delivery of the art and so on. People can't complain about not having the 'original' because there is -no- original, it's all copies of copies of an image that exists as a series of numbers. Plus, then there's the cost of the programs to draw -with-, ($500 anyone? Plus $100 each time you want to upgrade, at -least-?) and if your computer goes into meltdown well, that's all your work, finished or in progress, and the ability to replicate it down the gurgler so you need to buy, or bootleg, a new copy.
The only 'traditional' types really, those that specialise in it, online at least, seem to focus on pencil work, or sketches. And even then, they're not really -common-. It is rarer than hens teeth to find someone that works with the pencil and paper and are decent in and of themselves. Sure, everyone starts out doodling with a pen, or pencil on paper, with lots of dramatic black swathes of how your life sucks, but once you get through that stage, you either develope into an artist, or an artiste and ditch the pencil and paper because hey, buying more paper ALL THE TIME is SO EXPENSIVE, and when drawing digitally you just 'undo' any errors rather than use an eraser and have to work on removing smudges.
I'm probably shooting myself in the foot with this but... well. I -like- to work traditionally, I really really enjoy painting and having something to physically show people. Which is exceedingly rare in the online community, simply because EVERYONE draws digitally, with Sai or photoshop or whatever you want to use, where as off of that community, the digital work is called 'prints' and there's not quite so much competition. I don't know, maybe I'm odd, in that I would just -adore- having people who ask for commissions (like that would ever happen heh) or paintings or something of my work, not just the money side, but to be able to really, genuinely produce something, and send it to them. Yes yes, snail mail, whatever, but sometime in the future, they would get this package, the tube of random, open it up and bam. There is the actual, physical representation of where their money has gone, the final result of hours of work to produce this ... whatever. Sure, it's more expensive because of postage and all, but if it's a concept that you adore, and something that has been niggling in the back of your mind for days and months and years, but you can't justify asking someone to draw it for you because it will just be a file on your computer...
I dunno, maybe I'm just talking out of my hindquarters, but international post for a 20kg limit on a package for $44 or so ....well. 20kg is a lot of paper, even with the weight of the paint on the pages. That includes insurance and tracking! Sure, it's not a $2 pin or badge or sketch -- that's just a picture on the screen -- but there's the anticipation. The excitement. The able to show others this piece of art that you asked for and paid real dollars for, without having to wait for the page to load.
Who knows. Maybe I'm just old fashioned and silly. Either way, in the fight between preferences, of Digital Art and Traditional, I vastly prefer traditional. It is waaaay more fun, and relaxing for me. Just me, and the paper, and the pencil. Or the paintbrush. Nothing else matters, just the art. Meditative, almost.
Anyways, I'll shut up now! Just my two cents on the subject that is completely random and irrelevant!

Foodness!
Posted 14 years agoThere is one thing that seems to stick out at me, in all the cookbooks and recipe blogs and everything out there that's available for you to cook with, they give you the ingredients, supposedly what it is meant to look like upon finish, and a very basic method.
Put in oven. Cook on blah temperature until done. And rarely, if ever, do you get a recipe that includes a complete -meal- in the making of. You want to make honey chicken, great, but what do you serve -with- said chicken? Or lamb, or fish, or you want to make a side dish, what does it taste best with?
And under this aim, and frustration, I have started a food blog. Something that will do the whole process, from the simple, early preparations -- including serving size when I remember! -- and pictures of the whole process when things get a little tricky. It's not just a case of do blah for blah, time it at such and such a temperature for such and such a time. Newp, this includes how to tell if something -is- cooked, what to look for to tell if you've mixed something enough, and how to fix it if it is not quite there yet.
deliciousnessdesired.blogspot.com
There are also mistakes, when I make them, or mentionings of what to look out for so -you- don't make the same error. I hope to keep it entertaining, and fun. And pleasant enough that it's as much fun to read, as well as eat the food that I helped you make for enjoyement :)
Think of the possibilities!

Deviant art!
Posted 14 years agoAfter many years of hmming and hawing and waiting for policies to change. Something about the moderators who had the right to shift my own work into a 'scraps' file if it wasn't up to par, and completely delete things of 'adult themes'. And since well, much of art is nudity because clothing and cloth is the very devil to draw, this presented a problem.
...yes, I read the terms and conditions. Don't you?
In any case, I am now on deviant art! Whoo. Go scroll down and hunt out the ID thingy on this page. Yes I've just joined and -yes- there are over 40 submissions. Stuff I've re-found and other stuff I've pulled over from here to there, the best of the worst, as it were. And my writings, which I haven't uploaded here.
Browse, amuse yourself, or whatever. I'll still be here and all but yay, broadening horizons!

Stress and microbes.
Posted 14 years agoYay, don't we alllll just love being stressed, busy as hell, and broke? Or rather, broke, busy as hell and stressed about it.
I've spent the past few months scrimping and struggling to get by -- yay for being a student, it is SO much fun to try and feed yourself! -- when I worked out my monthly expenses. This is the stuff I -have- to pay.
Rent: $600
Internet: $50
Phone: $50
Debt repayment:$2-300
Food: $400.
Lets go to the upper scale, so $300 debt repayment.
$600 + $300= $900
$50 + $50 = $100
$1000 + 400= $1400
I share a house, so the bills are split (electricity, water, gas) every three months, and I've just moved there so ... yet to pay a bill like that. It's a goodly amount for -anyone- to pay, yeah?
I get ~$300 a week in pay. Sometimes it's like, $315, other times it's $250 or less. If it's -over- $300 then the extra goes towards the debt. As well as $50 every week. Every other week I get benefits, ~$100 for the two weeks, minus ~$50-60 to pay back -another- debt to the government, that's automatically taken out so... whatever.
Now what does this mean? It means that I am getting an average of $1200 per month.
You have no idea how much of a relief it is to find out that hey, it's -not- that I'm really crappy with money handling, nope, I'm -actually- short every single month.
Go Australia.
The only thing I can change is how much I eat. The $200 every two weeks? That's green Stuff. fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, you know, the basics that every cooking able individual gets for the meals and so on. That averages out to $130 a fortnight, the extra $70 allowance? That's for buying food when I'm working. Drinks, dinner when working long enough to get a break and so on. It's probably not that much, but it's better to err on the side of caution, yeah?
Sometimes, I swear, the world hates me.
In other news, it is my birthday next month, (april), and I got some gifts from a friend! Fuzzy plush microbes. I am now addicted to the silly things and want mooooore... but shipping kills. Especially when you're broke! Hehe, oh well. Maybe one day I'll have money I can spend...

Australia is awesome
Posted 15 years agoAustralia is a great place to visit, the beaches, the relaxation, the holidaying, the swimming... it's the ultimate holiday destination!
Here's why you should visit!
You won't get a chunk bitten out of you (unless you swim too far out into the ocean)
You don't have to be worried about getting killed in your car by an animal (unless you hit a big buck roo or someone else)
The weather is -wonderful-, always sunny and warm and delightful (30 degrees celcius in summer is a COOL day)
There's lots to see and even more to do! (running from nesting magpies, seeing kookaburra's take on hawks and win)
So really, australia is a -lovely- place to visit.
Disclaimer: Do not pick up anything outside without checking for snakes, spiders, scorpions or irritated wildlife before hand, try to stay out of tropical waters during the dry season as box jellyfish and man of war jellyfish are frequent in the shallows, be careful of koalas because they bite, platypi have venomous spurs on their hind legs (male) so be careful, kangaroos are easily startled and may take offence to you taking a photograph of them and gut you, beware nesting magpies as they swoop and might take out an eye if you do not duck.... *disclaimer voice fades into silence still reciting things before resuming at full volume* But the people are the -best-!
Come see the desert, uluru, the tropics, snowcapped mountains, great ranges of hills, cliff faces, beaches that have sand feeling like you're walking on cotton, race emu's across the nullabore, watch thorny devils drink by standing in a puddle, swim great coral reefs, enjoy the sun, the rain, the weather! See all the wonders of multiple geographic climates can offer you without the trouble of going to other countries, Australia has it ALL!
Come visit us mate, you'll never look at your world the same way again. ;)

Snoow!
Posted 16 years agoSnow is surprisingly heavy! And clingy. And less cold than expected but then I was wearing multiple layers and such.
Ahh, girl from Aussie in the wisconsin winter snow!
About 18 inches, locals say, overnight. Alot of snow.
It is harder to make a snowman than I thought it was. Especially if you want things round and all. But snow is fun! If wet. And you fall over in it alot (at least, I did) and walking in the deep snow -kills- your thighs because you have to step so much higher to step OUT of the snow, but there's no resistence when you put your foot down. It is odd!!
But fun. Hee. Though, the tree's snow on me too, with the snow that was in their branches. o.o
Updates done for now! If I said anything else it'd take waaaay too long.

The 'rape fantasy'
Posted 16 years agoOkay, it has come to my attention that nine tenths of the individuals within the furry genre harbour ...hold... something called a 'rape fantasy'. This fantasy is aberrantly such a widely spread epidemic that it is then -assumed- that -any- submissive/bottom within the genre -automatically- has such fantasies.
I do not write this to start a flame war or the like, but expressing a particularly strong opinion of mine in regards to this 'fantasy'.
Rape is not nice. It never -is- nice. It is cruel, it is demeaning, it is degrading, it is damaging to both the physical body and the mental state of equilibrium. It is a taking and a breaking of your soul, not just your body, it is the complete and utter defilement of -who- you are.
The only people who are 'allowed', in my mind, to have 'rape fantasies' are rape -victims-, and even then it is not so much a fantasy as a symptom of their mental status, a not good symptom at that. They know what it is like, they have experienced it, and in doing so have broken something inside so that in that utter defilement of all that they are, is the only time they feel something 'pleasant', such as being wanted, or loved, or desired so greatly that the desirer just -has- to rape them, they cannot resist it. This, again, does not bode well for their mental status.
On the flip side of the coin, if you enjoy -raping- you are a loathsome creature. No two ways about it. That you get off on leaving your partner torn and tattered, weeping and broken inside and out is not healthy, is not ... a 'good' thing to feel. If you feel that you -have- to rape someone, or automatically assume that just because the last three you raped enjoyed it that every one after will, you just... sicken me. I repeat, rape is NOT NICE. Anyone who 'delights' in the control, the 'buzz' that raping another and leaving them bruised, battered and broken body and soul, regardless of whether their victim is male or female, deserves to have their internal organs spilled across the floor while their genetalia bleeds their life blood out into an ever widening pool.
And before any who read this get all up and arms over my assessment of mental states, know this: I am a studying psychologist and counsellor, and as part of my course I -have- spoken with rape victims, I have even been friends with them, and helped them get over their grief and regain their sense of self worth. Any creature that would -willingly- submit... no, that's not the right word for it, inflict, there we go... such a status onto another on a regular basis deserves nothing less than a complete and utter taking of -everything- they are, just as they took from countless others.
Now that I have so eloquently expressed myself on -that- side of the coin, lets take a look at the other, shall we?
Consensual force: sounds a bit like an oxymoron, doesn't it? But this, I believe, is what most confuse their 'rape fantay' with. The desire within them to be wanted so much that they are pinned down and used for the others pleasure. Bear with me, I'll explain the difference between this and rape in a minute. This can be expressed in the desire to be bound and fucked senseless, to have a limited say in personal space -- no warning about when a possessive hand might steal a grope -- or perhaps even held down mercilessly to squirm and writhe and pant while a skilled (or at worst, eager) mouth forces the cries from their lips. This, I repeat, is -not- rape, it is a sharing of pleasure. What particular -form- that pleasure takes is up in the air, it can be leaving teeth marks in shoulders, or seed dripping from flesh, the sweaty, sticky, urgent twine of dual bodies striving for climax. Rape is one held down, a hole to be fucked, used, abused and then disgarded. There is no shared pleasure, it is a taking, not a sharing.
This, I think, might be the confusion. Consensual force leaves both parties panting and exhausted, one aching and perhaps leaking, but both satisfied and content. Rape leaves one party panting and exhilarated, the other weeping and degraded, aching and bleeding blood and thicker things.
Can you see the difference? Or do I need to explain more?

This, I think, might be the confusion. Consensual force leaves both parties panting and exhausted, one aching and perhaps leaking, but both satisfied and content. Rape leaves one party panting and exhilarated, the other weeping and degraded, aching and bleeding blood and thicker things.
Can you see the difference? Or do I need to explain more?

Commissiony!
Posted 16 years agoSort of. This is the info that was in my profile but is now GONE due to making my profile big and ugly.
** I am bad at saving up money when I have to buy food! I'm trying to save up to visit folks in the USA but sadly, that is slightly difficult when I am lacking the plane ticket -back-. So! I have a paypal account and I'm willing to do commissions. If you like my style, gimme a hoi.
Black and white = $10*
pencil colour = $20*
crayons = $25*
painted = $30*
(this is all on paper/cartridge)
*prices may be subject to change depending on level of detail desired**, backgrounds and/or difficulty of posing.
** Crayons are hard. And pleh, so pretty please don't ask for it in crayon? ^^
That's to cover the cost of materials (paper, paints, pencils, etc). If you just want it to be uploaded onto here then the price is all you're gonna pay, for the materials, if you want/need the original then the shipping costs apply (most likely international as I'm in Australia). If you want it on something other than an A3 sheet of paper (poster sized) for example on canvas, then the measurements of the canvas as well as the cost of it will be added.
I'm a poor student so I have to buy this stuff out of my own pocket (which is rather threadbare). I'm not sure about the prices (probably shouldn't admit that...) and a little nervous... but hey! Gimme a hoi. (which is a yell, by the way. A message or whatever).
Hoping to get $2000 or so, before september... which makes me a very busy bee if I get lots of requests. >_> Also I work and stuff, so this isn't my -sole- source of income, it'll just help if folk'll pay me to do something I really enjoy. ^_^
