Furry Fiesta Post Con Report!
Posted 14 years agoHoly cow, that was another awesome convention :D I was stuck behind my dealer's den table the majority of the time, but I greatly enjoyed myself there and met a whole bunch of old friends and new people, too many to list here and I don't want forget someone and have them feeling left out.
There were many hugs and "Hey! How've you been doing?"'s exchanged along with the occasional shout of "Butt scratchah!" over the crowd :P Scarf sales kinda sucked this year which I kinda blame on the weather, but screw it, I went for the fun of it all.
I just want to thank everyone that went and made it an awesome convention. It's been a good while since I've been around so many fun loving people like that before. And actually, going to the convention has made me realize how disconnected I've become with some people in not just the Houston area, but with other people as well. I need to poke a few people on my messenger list now and get them talking again. I miss people!
Depression fucking sucks, but hell if I'm not gonna have fun while going through it. Parents divorce be damned!
*edit* Also, I just realized that I'm turning 21 in ten days...where the hell did that come from?

Furry Fiesta and stuff
Posted 14 years agoYikes! Two months without posting anything. Shame on me :|
Furry Fiesta is coming up in two weeks and I'm excited about my Dealer's table that I have there :) I'm pushing myself to get new scarves made in time but I'm hitting a wall when it comes to picking colors. They never have the right one at the store :/ Oh well. I'll make do.
Who all is going?
I'll have a few scarves posted up soonish :)

It's getting cold outside! Who wants a scarf?
Posted 15 years agoIf you haven't noticed it's starting to get nice and chilly outside and it's gonna get even colder come this Christmas! So I thought it would be the perfect time for all of you guys to kill two birds with one stone.
Get yourself a scarf as a present and keep your neck nice and toasty warm. Or better yet, get yourself and your special someone/good friend/family member/crush at work/or whomever a nice, warm scarf to wrap their freezing cold necks up in. Just imagine the look on their face! "Oh my gosh [insert your name here]! Thank you so much! [throws their arms around you in a hug] I'll love you forever and ever!" ...well it may not turn out exactly that way, but you get the idea!
Some ideas for a scarf if your mind is currently blank:
Peppermint scarf (red and white striped)
Black and gray striped scarf Example here
Solid Gray, Black, Bright Red, Deep dranberry...
You get the idea. Stripes and solids. But if you have an idea for a scarf that you think would look great and I don't have an example of it, feel free to ask me if I can make it for you :D Post your comment below.
Also, could anyone who reads this please pimp me out. I hate asking, but I could certainly use more watchers.

Scarves, College, and Life
Posted 15 years agoTl;dr at bottom.
Updates! May as well post them somewhere other than just leaving them in my head.
I went camping with some friends at the Texas Rennaissance Festival a while ago and it turned out to be awesome :D We only roamed around on the festival grounds for about 3 hours on that Saturday, looking at all the neat trinkets, wonders, and hand made crafts before heading back to our camp for lunch. The weather was perfect outside and we just chilled at the campsite for the rest of the day and partied at night. Holy cow, do these people know how to party O_O You really do have to be there to understand the fun that is dancing around the bonfire at night with shouts of Huzzah! rising above the smoke and flame. It was awesome :D
Oklacon came and went, which I didn't get to go to :/ It's largely my fault because I never really planned or thought it out well enough that I could feasible go, nor did I make enough scarves to sell, nor did I even reserve an artist alley table (didn't know you could do that for this con). It was probably all for the better though because it meant I could go out and party on Hallow's Eve with friends :)
Eh, there's still Furry Fiesta :D
As for college...I dunno. I haven't been feeling very motivated lately to do any of the work and it has gotten to the point where I am beginning to wonder if college is for me. Then again I haven't been very motivated to much of anything lately. Housework, arranging my room, doing paperwork for insurance and all that. Even working on my scarves has been tedious.
I feel like blah because I'm not productive. I'm not productive because I feel like blah. Make sense? I've been ever so slowly working on several scarves at once, and to me it kinda feels like I'm not getting anything done because I haven't finished any of them yet. I need to just sit down and finish one :|
Tl;dr
Went and partied; had fun; will do again
Wanted to go to a convention but didn't; need to plan better
Struggling with college
Slow going with scarves, but so far so good
So! What's going on in everyone else's lives?

Sorry for lack of updates!
Posted 15 years agoI'm heading out camping with a bunch of friends this weekend to the Texas Renaissance Festival. Hopefully being around people I know will drag my out of this funk about my parent's divorce, but once I'm back I'm gonna post a few more pics of scarves!
Rika and Noctome, I'm making you guys something special :D
More updates when I'm back!

College! and stuff
Posted 15 years agoSo today (Tuesday) I started the fall college semester with just my two classes. English 1302 and History 1302. So far they seem simple enough, but I still need to get my textbooks for them though x.x I'm thinking either chegg.com or half.com; I'm still not counting ebay out just yet.
Soooo...other news. My job is still going pretty nicely. Find the right printer ink for a customer, take their money, and wish them a great day. Happy time! Despite it being a retail job and pays a lot lower than say a position at Best Buy or Barnes and Noble or even server at a restaurant I find it enjoyable. Especially since I end up being the only one there after the lab tech leaves for the day. It's quiet and it leaves me time to think and crochet a little when I find the time from organizing all those toner cartridges.
Oh yeah, and my parents are getting a divorce. It's been a week since my mom pulled a crazy stunt to get this stuff going, and my brother, my dad, and I are just left wondering what the heck is going on. Even though a lot of it isn't my business I feel like I'm getting dragged into something that's bigger than I am. I feel like I'm being forced to take sides. Making scarves is keeping me sane for now though. I've made four in the past six days.
I need a cup of tea.

Off on vacation and more scarves coming
Posted 15 years agoWhoo boy, I don't check my FA messages for a week and BAM! 415 messages in my inbox. Gonna take a while to sort through them all x.x
Anyways, I recently bought myself a knitting board, a kind of loom, thinking that it'd be something neat to try out. Plus I've read that it makes the scarf look smooth and uniform on both sides, so I had to give it a shot. I finished my first scarf on it a few days ago, and hopefully I'll find a chance to take a good picture and have it posted bytomorrow sometime this next week.
Right now I'm in Oklahoma for the next week with my mom and my brother visiting my mom's friend from back when we were living in this little town called Ponca City. We're here because we haven't seen her daughter, a childhood friend of mine, for over 7 years now. She was kidnapped by her father to Venezuela in a nasty custody battle and divorce, but we're happy she's back now :D
More to come when I get more scarves done. I can't wait until Furry Fiesta next year.

Busy, busy, busy!
Posted 15 years agoWoah! I haven't written a journal here in a loooong time. I need to fix that.
I've been up to a lot recently. Moved out of my parents house a while back, then moved back in three weeks later because my friend's dad kicked me out while he was drunk (that was fun). Ever since I had moved in there I largely felt unwelcome and useless, mostly because whenever I tried doing dishes or laundry they kept telling me not to because it wasn't my job...I felt bleh. Moving out made me realized how much I appreciate my family and how much they mean to me. It was a great relief coming back.
My job has been going pretty good as well. I'm still doing the same thing everyday, selling printer ink to customers, but I'm somehow finding it enjoyable. Plus I got a tiny raise, so I'm happy :D
In other news I haven't been doing a lot of crocheting recently. I'm not sure why myself, but I've just been feeling meh a lot. But! With the knowledge that Anthrocon's theme next year is magic I've resolved myself into making some neat Harry Potter themed scarves, more sushi scarves and many more you guys will see in my gallery soon enough.

Just a small rant
Posted 15 years ago<rant>
Nobody calls me to ask me if I want to do anything. I may not be able to drive out anywhere to do anything, but still, I like it when someone talks to me...or at least picks up their phone every now and then :/ Not pointing fingers at anyone.
</rant>
This move out of my house has been frustrating. I can see why so many others who've done it have such a hard time with it ~.~
*pads off to bed*

Just an update
Posted 15 years agoSooo...I haven't posted anything in a while. Mostly because it's turning into summer pretty soon and no one wants a scarf around here. No surprise there :P
A few other things though. Lately I've been feeling unsettled at home. I've been doing bad habits of not doing homework, not doing housework, lots of stuff. Then there's been nagging from my mom, name calling from my brother, and grumpiness and generally no cooperation from my dad. Things are still okay, but I'm just getting to a point where it's bothering me.
So I moved out .-.
I'm now at a friend's house and earning my keep by doing cleaning around here and I'm eventually supposed to help rebuild the fence in the backyard (still damaged from Hurricane Ike).
Hopefully this turns out okay. I think it will. Wish me luck!

Got myself a job, yay
Posted 15 years agoPretty much what the title says. I found myself a job over the weekend as a 'retail associate' at a printer ink store. Today was my first day and I think I'm catching on pretty well. Hopefully this doesn't mean I can't make the Mercer Park meets anymore, but I'll see what I can work out with my boss.
Yay me!
Yay me!
Weekend well spent, Spring Break, and maybe a music festival
Posted 15 years agoSo this past Friday was my 20th birthday. It kinda feels weird to no longer a teenager, to not have that bit of innocence around your aura. I kinda like it really because I feel I get to do more things for myself (as much as my parents will let me anyways). As one of my good friends put it "teenagers suck :O you get to join the club of the coolest decade, folks In Their 20s". I'm trying to reflect on what I've accomplished so far in life, all the people I've met, all the friend's I've made, the fact that I don't have a job while the rest of the people my age I know have a job, a fiance, and a place of their own. That last part gets to me at times, but I think that I've come along pretty well with myself. I just need go get up on my own feet in the next couple of years or so. I spent most of the day sleeping before getting up to go to the store to get ingredients for a delicious red velvet cake. Good lord! I'm never making that thing again x.x Half a cup of shortening plus a cup of butter? I felt sick after eating a slice of that thing. I'm going to stick to my german chocolate cakes thank you very much.
I've been slowly teaching myself more things about life and how to survive on my own. I figure I gotta find this stuff out now, however late it may be, before I manage to get my own place. Saturday I taught myself how to braise a steak in the oven with a side helping of delicious golden potatoes, broccoli, carrots, and garlic. I ended up cooking it a bit too long and it dried up a little, but it ended up being one of the most tender steaks I've ever eaten, so soft that I could cut it with a fork. I'm definitely gonna make another one today.
So yeah, I'm 20 now. Helium balloons rock.
It's also my spring break this week and I'm trying to figure out some things to do. Right now I'm thinking about going to Huntsville state park up north, going to the farmer's market downtown to get some fresh fruits and veggies, and possibly heading to downtown Austin this Friday to go to this thing called Pumps and a Bump. It's filled with music and food and awesomeness :D
I'm gonna head back to bed -.-

Commission Prices and some ideas.
Posted 15 years agoI've been looking at different yarns and figuring out how much time it takes me to make a scarf and I've settled on a pricing system for a scarf. Check out my profile info.
In other news I'm slowly learning how to do shaping so I can make something other than a rectangle.
This is what a regular scarf looks like, a rectangle.

What I want to do is make a rectangle with triangles on the ends to make it look like a tail scarf :D

Furry Fiesta 2010
Posted 15 years agoHoly crap. The convention was a whole new experience for me this year. I've only been to two others before this one (MFM 08 and FF 09), and I think this has so far been the best of the three.
This year I tried something new and I got a table in the artist's alley to show off my newly acquired talent of knitting and crocheting. Friday was a complete bust for me; didn't sell a single scarf. I think it was just because I felt a little uncomfortable and nervous the first day seeing as how it was my first time being the one behind the table making stuff (having 500 or so people walk in to stare at you would make you nervous too!). Before it was me being the one watching the artist do all the work.
After about five hours of sleep the cycle started again on Saturday, but this time I felt more at home and relaxed around all those people. It's been so long since I could recall it but I finally remembered the reason why I joined the fandom in the first place. It's all those people, all those welcoming and happy (and tired) smiles, all the welcoming minds with different artistic ideas flowing through them. I loved watching the artists around me toil away on their work and shape it to their (and their customer's) desire. I felt accepted. I sold five scarves that day, and I felt very proud that people liked my creations. I love my work.
Thank you guys for reminding me about the good times. I'm definitely sticking around :)

Posted 15 years agoI'll write some awesome stuff about it tomorrow, but for now I need sleep ~.~
Making stuff and plans for Furry Fiesta
Posted 15 years agoSo since somewhere towards the end of September I decided to teach myself how to knit, mostly because I wanted to make something special for a friend. But now I'm deciding to expand a little bit with my ideas so I taught myself to crochet as well, and I think I'm doing pretty good so far. Right now I just know how to make rectangles (read that as scarves), and later on I plan on learning how to shape my knitting (correctly this time).
I've got a room and a ride for Furry Fiesta, though I've yet to preregister for the convention (I should do that soon). This year I'm going to do a first for myself and get a table in the artist's alley so that I can sell some scarves. I'm still not sure what to price them at though. As of right now I've made two for the convention and I figure I need to make about eight more to have a good selection. Check out my gallery :D
If you were to buy a hand-made scarf, how much would you pay for it? What do you think a good price is?
Any suggestions on scarf designs?

Reply to this journal and:
1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll tell you which song or movie you remind me of.

Learning something new
Posted 16 years agoI'm not entirely sure why but I've decided to take up knitting. Weird but actually quite interesting. It gives me something to concentrate on while I sit around the house :P
So far I've gotten the knit and purl stitch down (mostly) and right now I'm gonna try increases and decreases to see if I can get a pointed tip. If I get good enough I hope to make scarves to sell at Furry Fiesta :3 Wish me luck!
