Back in Canada! Now what does the future bring?
Posted 7 years agoIt's hard to believe it's already been a year, but I've now returned to my home in Canada from Australia. It was quite an adventure, and if you'd like to check out what I got up to you can visit my Twitter (@silentravyn) or Instagram (@silentravyn)
After such a big, life changing event I now have to consider what comes next. While overall things are a bit uncertain, I've come to the conclusion that I want to finally make the push and get more serious about my art as a business.
It is the work I have consistently loved and gotten the most satisfaction out of while bouncing around through other careers. I've also had a lot of success when vending at conventions or doing commissions in my off time. I think at this point the only thing holding me back from pursuing it full time is the negative stigma of doing art as a career. Even if things don't pan out in the long run, I think I owe it to myself to give it a solid shot.
I may, at least for the start of this endeavor, find a part time job or do contract work just to supplement myself as I ease into it. But either way, I am committed to making art and crafting my main priority.
Now, with this comes some pretty exciting news in the near future. I'll make an announcement as soon as it's ready.
Also, I'm going to be attending a lot more conventions this year than I usually do! The following is a list of cons I have a confirmed dealer's table at:

I have hopes for ANW and MFF as well, but we will see about that when the time comes.

Full color digital commission auction! (closed)
Posted 7 years agoI'd like to practice more digital art scenes, and my last YCH had a lot of interest so I thought I'd have an auction for a totally custom piece! The rating on this can be anything from G - 18+, and it includes a full detailed background (natural scenes preferred).
Starting bid: $80 USD
*Base price is for one character, if you want 2 your bid will need to be at least $130.
- The auction will run until July 13 at 8:00pm Australian Eastern Time.
- Payment must be completed within 48 hours of auction ending, or I will defer to the last highest bidder. Reference material for the character will also be needed at this time.
- The artwork will be completed within a month. It will be colored digitally in Medibang, and buyer will receive a high resolution file.

Australia, Confurgence & Postcard Commissions!

rave_fox and I will be leaving February 1st to work and travel throughout Australia for a year! I plan to continue making art during this time, but this will of course cause some temporary changes.
As I will be on the road, I unfortunately can't take my whole roster of traditional art supplies with me. But I will be taking my watercolor paints and a sketchbook, so I will be able to do some simple traditional works. I have also treated myself to an iPad Pro for the trip, so many (if not most) of the artworks and commissions I do along the way will be digital.
I will be working odd jobs while I travel, so I am not sure how often I will be able to take commissions. I expect to open occasionally for badges, larger works, or practice pieces, especially if I am between jobs. I'll post about larger openings here, and if you want to be notified about smaller stuff the best course would be to follow my personal Twitter.
Conventions
This means I will be absent from North American conventions throughout 2018. My next convention in North America will be VancouFur 2019, and I plan to jump right back into the con cycle when I return.
But during my time away, I will be attending Australian conventions instead! I am currently registered to vend at Confurgence in February, FurDU in May, and plan to attend HCFC in July as well. Posted 8 years agoThis year I'm finally going to attend Midwest Fur Fest for the first time! As long as I've been in this fandom this con has always fallen at a bad time, but I just couldn't resist this year. I'm very excited to see what all the hype is about :)
I will have a table in the dealer's den (W26) and a couple of pieces in the art show, so be sure to look for my stuff!
This will be my last convention on North American soil before I take off for a year to Australia, so if you were hoping to get a commission from me, buy prints/merch, or even just say hi, this will be your chance. I plan to get back onto the North American con circuit in 2019, but I'm not entirely sure what the future holds.
I'm lucky enough to be rooming with some of my best friends, and I know a lot more fantastic folk will be in attendance. I can't wait to see old friends, meet new ones, fursuit, dance, and party the weekend away. Hope to see you there!

Badge commissions open!

If you are attending a convention soon and would like the badge to be themed as such, just let me know in the form. Otherwise I'm happy to do any theme or artist freedom. I will be attending BLFC and FurEh! and can happily deliver at those cons.
If you are a Harry Potter fan and would like a Hogwarts themed badge (for FurEh! or just for fun) please tell me your preferred house and familiar!

More about this round of commissions:
I am currently open for two new projects. This is not first-come-first-served, so no need to rush in to grab a spot right away. One commission will be chosen by application, and the other will be an auction. More info below:
1. Application commission: From March 10th - 13th at noon MST my full piece commission order form will be open for anyone to apply. I will choose one application to take as a commission. All applicants will be contacted with a quote and be notified whether they were chosen or not.
2. Auction commission: The second commission slot is available by auction, which will be up starting March 10th for 10 days to allow ample time for anyone who was not accepted for the application commission to choose to bid instead (as well as anyone who prefers to only use the auction of course!)
The reason I am using this system is to be fair to everyone. I want to choose what project I am most interested in working on, but also give the opportunity to anyone who has been wanting this for a long time to win the second slot if they so choose.

Two Simple Watercolor Commissions Available (auction closed)
Posted 10 years agoI've been saying for some time that I'd like to open for simple watercolor commissions, and I finally have a bit of time this month to do so!

Simple watercolors are done with only watercolor paint and graphite pencil, and are up to a maximum size of 8x10" (likely smaller if single character). They have no, or a very light, background.
Feral only, please!
For this round I'll be trying out an auction system, as I haven't done this sort of commission before :)

- There are 2 slots available. Please reply to either of my comments below to bid
- Bidding starts at $60 for either one character full body, or two characters headshot only (see example 3)
- If bidding passes $90 you may choose to have two characters full body instead
- Shipping will be an additional $3 to North America or $5 International
- The auctions will close at midnight tomorrow (11:59pm Mountain time, October 1)
- Payment must be received via PayPal within 1 week or I will contact the next highest bidder

Anthrocon 2015 Art Show!
Posted 10 years agoAnthrocon is coming up once again this weekend, so I thought I'd give anyone interested a heads up of what artwork I will have for auction in the Art Show :) Sadly I am unable to attend this year; I had to sacrifice a few cons to be able to do my backpacking trip in Europe and EF. But I'll still be there in spirit, and my art will be there as always!
I have six pieces in the General Art Show this year:

- Autumn's Glow
- Hunting Party
- Bokeh and Tsou
- Float On
If you get a chance to take a look please do! I feel like this is the strongest show I've had in a long time, and even if you aren't interested in bidding I'd love for my traditional works to be seen in person. Scans never quite do them justice :)

Posted 10 years agoI'm very excited for this summer, when ravefox and I will be backpacking in Europe for almost a month! We will be kicking off the trip with Eurofurence, which I've wanted to attend for years and years :D
Is anyone else going that wants to meet up? I won't know as many people as I usually do at North American cons, and it would be great to meet some faces that can't make it across the pond ^^
