Honestly I am going stir-crazy
I can't get work done, it's just .. not happening (other than neopets I guess? but that takes several attempts to get anywhere) and when I DO designate time to sit down and work

she just.. shes real nice dont get me wrong. she KNOWS that i do this work, and she worked fulltime as an artist a few years back, so she knows that i need to work on things but
she keeps interrupting with tasks - which i understand, house must have maintenance
she also doesnt seem to understand noise-cancelling headphones. i cant.... hear you when you talk to me........ mother pls

my body is suffering too since I've gotten used to a very limited+specific diet (mostly because of finance) and now that I'm here, the huge change in eats is wreaking havoc
on top of the fact that I have to force myself into sensible waking hours despite my body clock wanting to flip itself every couple of weeks and do terrible things to whatever sleep habits i manage to maintain until then

i forgot it existed but i've just been Wrecked by it here, even with antihistamines

but the Worst Thing. the worst thing is that
despite having been fulltime artist WITH two kids to support and a mortgage
despite knowing that art is definitely a thing and despite encouraging me to get into the industry (we went to the dreamworks exhibition and she kept saying 'you could be in here doing this') despite knowing that i do commissions and do them a lot and (usually) quickly and have wonderful and repeat customers and all that stuff

while I haven't found the other one and will definitely have to replace it (someone's got a spare theyre willing to give me tho!! im working that out) for now I remembered that I have my old bamboo fun still lurking around and the intuos's cord is compatible with it, so
my life is saved

though thanks everyone for your supportive words and offers! It means a lot.

I know tablet pens have their own dimension that they like to disappear into, and I'd consider that if I was at home, but I'm not at home - I lost the pen in the library while moving to find a plug point, and now it's absolutely disappeared off the face of the earth.

Im guessing someone picked it up thinking ‘sweet! free cool lookin pen with a nice grip’ and it wont work and theyll trash it or somethin (i do this with ink pens left behind) so .. idk. i’ll ask around but the library is closing and i dont have much time left. I will most likely have to buy a new one

Problem is, it's 1) my one source of income and 2) i can't actually afford to get a new one
so I have another situation where I need to probably do more long-term commissions to afford a replacement pen.
I'll post a thing shortly, this journal is just lettin y'all know of the situation

there's three classes this week that i can't NOT go to because two are exam prep and the other has mandatory attendance with a worksheet sO

the deathclaw is getting close to final stages! I'm hoping to have it ready to clay by tuesday and then the rest of the time is painting!! but that's a looooot of scales to glue on. It's still missing the majority of its back spikes, and the feetclaws aren't even skinned aughh at least I can sew those while waiting for the clay to dry, that takes a day or so
it's gonna be a super close call =_=

after that, one essay left and two exams and then my degree is DONE. and then i can die in peace

the other alternative is lifting the claws up further off the ground and run the risk of having them look stupid. I'll be putting foam pads underneath which will lift the digits up about 1cm or something which isnt much ehh
I'm loath to trim them since they're at the correct length but I don't wanna walk around the con all day looking like a cat wearing socks

whAT AN ADVENTurE

the person who was supposed to be helping out on my table slept in (and his phone is broken so attempts to rouse him were useless) sO he never showed up and I had to go solo which Ive never done before
I carried all this art stuff around with me so now my body is just pain because i am a weak noodle
so I got no breaks. i ate at the table since i had no food but by the time I got home all i could think about was 'i need to pee so bad'

bUT OTHER THAN THAT single flaw
sold the raikou+entei+suicune pieces in a single sale which made back my print cost though! all round it was the most I'd ever made in con sales so overall it was a good time
plus I met some Nice People, one of which was so so excited to meet me since they know my stuff from dA and that was a good time + I met some people I knew from way back
it's hard to do that sort of thing at 'geddon since it's really big and Overload is.. not. a small local without huge sponsors and it's good

I'm getting an extension on the essay due soon because I need the deathclaw resembling Sort Of Finished to enter the cosplay contest at 'geddon - the registrations close in a week so I need to hurry with that since theres a restricted amount of entries this year aaaaaaaaaaaa

oh look another journal where I complain about my life B ) its been mild for the most part but this week is going downhill rapidly so
one essay down out of the 13000 words due this semester! Unfortunately there was an essay due before that one and I totally forgot about it and now it's late, so I have to work on that one, and then there's another due in two weeks (which will be a week by the time i get the forgotten one out of the way) and the last one due probably a week after that
on top of that, there's an art convention in 10 days which I haven't finished doing art for, and then over ALL of that,
I've got about 5 weeks worth of rent left and I therefore want to open commissions again but there's no time to work on them along with everything else
which sucks because I want to buy a large amount of food. i'm currently low energy despite adequate sleep, my sleep schedule is currently whacked enough that I'm sleeping at ~2-5pm until midnight so when I wake up it's quiet time and I can't cook, my hands and arms are super shaky & just feel like useless noodles
i just want to eat a massive amount of fruit + veg and cereal and yoghurt and stuff to see if thatll pick me back up (id kill for a lasagna. havent had one in about a year) but i cant afford decent stuff on my current budget

if I opened for long turnaround commissions would anyone want to take me up on that? ETA would be mid/late october.

Iiiiiiii was gonna do something to do with same-day portrait paintings but i'm really REALLY tired + sick (i spent two hours lying as far back in this chair as possible in an effort to not throw up lmao) so that fell through, aand now i have to write the first essay in the great Block of 13k words due this semester aaaaaaaa

also I have received confirmation that my internet will eventually be cut off once it's certain that i'm not re-enrolling next year - since my uni accepts late enrolments up to a week into the new semester i guess that won't be until around mid-march ish, so I'll be looking for a new place to go sometime before that - HOPEFULLY it'll be comfortably large (larger than the shame cube anyway) as well as more permanent than what I've had so far! I want to find a good place to be for at least five years =_= knowing auckland that's highly unlikely, eugh.

I got tripped up by classes starting up again! Typical late replies get caught up and spun into Quite Late replies and I'll be catching up with my workload over the weekend.

This semester is absolutely packed with assignments and things to do (Including entire Thursdays taken up by 7-hour-long classes which include field trips) so I'm going to have to keep a tight schedule if I want to slip in time to work on commissions.
For clarity, I have class on Mondays, Wednesdays and a full day on Thursday which means that I won't be able to do any art whatsoever on that day - everything else is fair game

Conventions. Two of 'em. They're also coming up in quick succession, so there needs to be some fanart done real quick if I want to make those

On weekly commissions:

I'll be switching them over to hourly-rate commissions! My pricelist is currently set up to be as accurate with hourly pay as possible so not much will change in regard to pricing, but instead I will put up available hours for the week and let it go from there.
The current rate is $20 per hour (I think? might've been 25) so if I was doing this fulltime I'd need to put in about 10-12 hours per week to break even with my living costs - but I'm studying for one more semester so that isn't really practical since I'm really terrible with doing assignments and study and things so it's w/e

I'll be remaking my commission pricelist to make it a lot easier to understand in terms of hours as well and/or for those who don't like doing math (which is completely understandable)

this is all in preparation to see if I can go the distance with making it a full-time thing!
I'm currently not mentally/emotionally well or fortified enough to actually do anything with the degree I'll be completing very soon, so I'll need a way to survive without being a total resource drain :T

but it's cold enough that my hands are about as useful as chopped cabbage when it comes to drawing and let me tell u. chopped cabbage is frickin useless at drawing

classes start up next week and im slowly settling in (with a lot of misery and complaining) into my foodless lifestyle again b/c i spent almost a week just. eating a lot of food all the time
like my only plan was to go to an all-you-can-eat chinese place and we only left because the people i was with got full and i was just like 'i can keep going for a long time ill just say im done . .. after this next plate yoooo'

anyway what i came here to say was suggest me some lizard species to make into argonians. i probably wont draw all of them because some of em are difficult to put into argonian shapes and restrictions but ill give a lot of them a try anyway because i can mash one out in an hour if theyre not too complicated (or if my computer doesnt crash and corrupt the file >:C the croco-skink one was corrupted and loaded with a massive yellow hue block across the bottom that i had to repaint)

Instead of resuming weeklies after the schoolwork stuff is out of the way, what's peoples thoughts on me doing traditional art commissions instead during the intersemester break?
Last time I tried doing them, interest was really low and also I was terrible at managing them but now I think I'd be okay with it ?

If so, I don't know what sort of price to offer =_= i know what I'm offering for the Pokemon things is far too low so idk
or whether or not to allow pairings art (b/c if ya break up and dont want the art... where does it go. does it get destroyed. sad times)

It's crunch time at uni! Big assignments and things are due, so I have No Time to do stuff any more. (If I draw pokemon stuff, it's stress-drawing and doesnt mean im available for doing commission work which requires a professional mindset rather than an aimless pencil scrawl to relax)
Plus, commissions have sort of slowed down a lot recently, so it doesn't feel worth the effort at the moment too.

The only exception is if you commissioned it, or if your character is in it and you have permission.

I know some people are fine with their art being thrown around as long as credit is given, but I'm not one of those people - I like to be in control of where my art goes and where it ends up.
