School has devolved into a crucible of insults, burning with awkward hatred. Through the fires of teenage drama and madness, we are forged, our inner steel laid bare. Those who do not have the heart within to continue on, and withstand such fury, melt away into the slag, often becoming new flames that carry forward those misanthropic delusions; stoking the blaze; their hearts blackened and scorched.

Thus perpetuates the cycle; the unending chain of barbarism and pain known as 'Education'.

We gain knowledge through our classes, but we learn several harsh evils that have no place; we learn agony, fear, and mistrust. Their attentions hurt us, but they also lead to an awakening. On the anvil, where our mettle is tested; slammed again and again with inglorious insults and jabs at our character; we are shaped. Our naive outlook is shattered, and scattered to the wind.

We arise from this abuse wearing our scars within, and we re-enter the world differently than we began. Through this punishment, our softer core is now shielded by a hardened razor-edge. To use that edge; to scorn and scourge others; that decision lies upon us. We can readily see the nicks and gouges we could carve out of others; and that feeling, to say 'I did that'; brings joy to the wicked. But, to stand fast, and instead heed the wisdom of our transformation, and not dwell upon it's harsh rigors is also up to us. The journey was hellish, and we can barely recognize ourselves at the end, but we should choose to embrace the strength that we gained; that strength that led us through the gauntlet. Because, through it all, we still stand; a survivor.

God damn; that's GREAT!


So yeah...

About all that...

Apparently last night our fridge exploded. It gave no warning whatsoever, it just died while we were at the store yesterday. Ironically, this happens as we spend the last money we've got to buy bread and milk; meaning we basically wasted half of what we spent.


So yeah; we're pretty much screwed.

....and apparently there's a long hot spell a'comin'....

I was asleep after a long day's night, working on my Second year in college; having gotten to bed around midnight. I was abruptly awakened by my mate, who handed me the phone and told me it was my step-sister, with an emergency phone call. Groggily, I answered:

At 1:12 AM, April 9th, Pacific Time; I received the news that my Father was dead.

This came out of nowhere for me, and I was truly stunned. It was not anything I felt like I was prepared for. After agreeing to let my Step-sister look into the arrangements being made, I tried, as best I could, to sleep: because, after all, I still had to work.

At work; I explained my loss; many sympathized, but I was still too in-shock. I tried instead to distract myself by throwing myself into my work. Bad Idea, it seems; it only forced the problem to the forefront. I ran through a wide range of emotion in that day (Denial, depression, anger, rage, sadness, grieving, and finally, acceptance), and after having a good long while to think on it, I believe I have reached my peace with it.

I know he's proud of me; every time I spoke with him, I could simply feel it. He was proud to see that he had raised a Son who lived with his ideals, and followed them fervently. A Son who was going through College, seeking to complete a degree (something both he and my mother had tried and failed). A son who refused to use addictive substances as a crutch or otherwise. A Son who sought to fulfill his own dream, of him using his gift of intellect to further himself and succeed.

Yes; my father is gone; and I will miss him greatly. But before anyone starts trying to tell me otherwise, allow me to expound for a moment:

My father was characterized by a deep altruism. He would literally give until it hurt. He would give the shirt off of his back, without question, if he was sure the person receiving it needed it and could use it. He would suffer and go beyond any expectation so that others would feel less burden in their lives. He taught me so much about being a good and worthwhile person. He showed me how one earns respect, and how to be self-reliant, and a pillar to others.

He never wanted to be a burden on anyone; and would always try to keep up his end; be it through chores, cooking, odd jobs; anything. He would always try to pay back anything owed. My mate took it hard when we found out he had died alone in his home: she felt terrible that he died all alone with no one there; but I had to interject - He died alone to prevent dropping guilt and sadness upon someone there, simply for the assurance of having someone nearby. On top of this; apparently he was also signed up for BioGift; to donate his body in the event of his death, negating much of the cost for a funeral. It was as though he wanted to make sure everyone was in a good place in their lives; and that the strength he had passed on was solid and true; and then sought to simply disappear without a sound feeling fulfilled that he had done his part.

I'm not trying to say he was 'perfect'; no one is. He had his share of troubles along the way, including addictions and psychological trauma, but he was a good man. He was one of the most honorable and noble people I had ever known. If you knew him, then you know what I am saying is true. If you never met him, it is unfortunate, but remember:

He still lives on through me; a life and mind he spent much of his own life shaping.

The way I see it; he shaped me into being a good person; and all the good I do in this life is a reflection of that. In turn, all the good I teach my child and others to do reflects both of us. In this way, we will continue to pay it forward. I am who I am greatly because of my Father; and I will never again sell myself short; for his sake, mine, and for my family's.



Some of the greatest lessons he's ever shared:

-Be generous freely, with no want or expectation. Give because you know it will spread joy to others.

-Love and cherish those you call friends; stay true through anything and everything.

-There is simply no excuse not to try to help. Even your bitter enemy can be redeemed.

-Do not be afraid to stand up for another; even if you yourself are outmatched. Protect those dear to you.

-Above all else; TRY. Don't ever simply give up; Keep working! Push on through! It may look like there is simply too much to do; but if you keep on working, soon you'll be done!


Rest well; Dad. You worked so hard to ensure everyone's survival for so long; you've earned some time off. We love you, and we'll take it from here.

I know it's weird for me to suddenly toss another Journal up in only a week; but today has been just SO DAMN GOOD.

Firstly; though the night before kinda sucked LOTS; at work this morning, I found myself being promoted to an actual 'job' job. (Was originally in "FNG Limbo", as extra maintenance and custodial (sweeping, mucking, dusting, cleaning; that sort of stuff)) Now, I'm a Trim Painter and Hopper loader. Not too dang shabby ^^ It's a job that I actually really like, and it's a great workout ^^.

Now, as if that wasn't a bonus enough; I get notified that one of the Artists who drew one of my personal favorite commissions, is now making good on his promise (or threat perhaps? XD) he made; to "rework it when he got better". The new take on it looks fantastic already; and it just came as icing on the cake to me,

Therefore; I propose a "Reverse Commission"-style system: I'll post up my maximum that I can handle for specific image types; and then artists choose which to shoot for, and we negotiate from there. Yup; that's right; I finally decided to just make a journal about this because I wanna go on record with my reaction to the tumult of skewed and messed-up explanations that I've seen/heard/argued.


Ok; let's start with the key points that are very easy to explain; yet are somehow in 'contention'.


1. Mass Effect 3 was rushed; and sold to gamers as an 'Incomplete Product'.

> Apparently people have forgotten the old standby of a 'Cliffhanger'; where the story trails off and the big TO BE CONTINUED slaps up on the screen.

ME3 was finished; the answer is painfully obvious: The 'Destroy the Reapers' option appears as your SOLE option if you don't have your Readiness high enough; meaning. point-blank; that THE DECISION IS A KEY STORY POINT; and as such, NEEDS THAT SPECIFIC OUTCOME for the CONTINUATION; REGARDLESS. The other two options when your readiness is higher make sense; but only if you put yourself in the Reaper's mindset: Shepard is the go-to guy, and lynchpin in rallying all the other races behind him against the Reapers. Indoctrinate him; and you essentially have him hand over a ton of lives on a platter. Given that Shepard's reputation would proceed him; having him as an agent to seek out any other allies if his fight against the Reapers 'failed'; he'd be like a damn beacon for the last remnants of advanced sentient life in the universe.


2. The Indoctrination Theory is only 'Fanon', and as such; is irrellevant.

> Oy... That's right; keep that nose up there in the clouds; you're all so much more intelligent than any writer that could ever devise any subtle plot twist that could f*ck with you to no end... No... NEVER... </sarcasm>

The people who dismiss the Indoctrination Theory have very much in common with people who believe they could never be hypnotized: That ignorance (or outright arrogance) leads them to accept some of the stupidest things without thinking. Not only does the Indoctrination Theory explain SO MUCH; it also gives the series the most epic mindf*ck quality.


3. Bioware's DLC is to 'fix'/'change' the Ending.

> No. No, you third-grader with no concept of thinking 'outside the box'. The DLC will change NOTHING story-wise. It is to CLARIFY the ending; no doubt to tap into what so many fans have been saying (see #2). If you played through the end; and took EVERYTHING at face value; ignoring the fact that you are dealing with a race capable of COMPLETELY F*CKING WITH EVERY ASPECT OF YOUR MIND; then congrats; you are a prime candidate for Indoctrination. Please step up to the Podium and attempt to 'Control' the Reapers.

Proof positive: Quote from BioWare's recent DLC FAQ:


What can fans expect from the Extended Cut DLC?

For fans who want more closure in Mass Effect 3, the DLC will offer extended scenes that provide additional context and deeper insight to the conclusion of Commander Shepard’s journey.

Are there going to be more/different endings or ending DLCs in the future?

No. BioWare strongly believes in the team’s artistic vision for the end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise. The extended cut DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned.

What is BioWare adding to the ending with the Extended Cut DLC?

BioWare will expanding on the ending to Mass Effect 3 by creating additional cinematics and epilogue scenes to the existing ending sequences. The goal of these new scenes is to provide additional clarity and closure to Mass Effect 3.



Now; let's tackle that grand mindf*ck that is the ending, shall we?

Alright; as it stands; each ending has essentially the same outcome; Sh*t blows up, the Normandy crashes, and the galaxy is summarily F*cked. More specifically; the Mass Effect Relays detonate; screwing FTL travel anywhere in the galaxy.

First off; No. If all that happened; most of life would have been obliterated along with the Mass Effect Relays.

The energy released alone would be tantamount to a Supernova; and thus would just about roast every system that had one. On top of that; the Reapers would be doubly screwed; seeing as that's how they get around...>.>


Now comes the biggest and most crazy-ass thing that hit me like a ton of bricks out of nowhere:

Think of what the Catalyst says for just a moment. It tells you that it was given the task of preventing Synthetic Intelligence from being created by advanced Organic Life; so it created the Reapers to 'harvest' Organics that have advanced too far. "Preverving" them in their own twisted way; while allowing lesser species to flourish and advance; beginning this great cycle... and it can't stop it without Shepard's intervention.

Seems a little off to me that Shepard alone is the key to stopping the grand cycle of things; but this is where the mindf*ck really begins...

Up until this point in the game; it's obvious Shepard is in a delusional state (I mean hell; he got hit with a beam from freaking Harbinger for god sakes), but it's this that makes even me take a step back and go 'wait a minute'... Ok; let's say the catalyst DID create the Reapers; why would it need outside help to stop them? And on top of that; why would it need outside help to be a willing participant in their destruction by destroying itself via the Crucible? There's one nagging part to this that just screams SETUP!; and that's the FORM the Catalyst takes. Why the Boy? Why look exactly like someone Shepard had been Hallucinating about?

Answer:

The only way it all makes sense; is that the Catalyst is either some weird mastermind scheming to control all; (which would make a lot of sense, if you take into context his claim of 'creating the Reapers'; meaning he'd have full access to ways to mess with Shepard's mind); or, the more likely event that he's a representation of the Reapers; as a final stand to fool Shepard into full indoctrination. Taking elements previously established from Shepard's thoughts and memories, in an effort to confuse and manipulate him to their end.

As for all three endings being exactly the same: Here's one SPECIFIC and WELL-ESTABLISHED plot point that everyone is not focused on: This is a representation of a battle going on in SHEP'S MIND. Hel-LO people! Mass Effect Relays detonating; desperate times; loved ones in great danger... all terrible things... All humongous Risks that Shepard must think about...Causes of dread and worry... and nightmares...< < (Key point there). Shepard makes one final decision; the fate of everything in the balance; but he's in the mental Grip of the Reapers; who are responding to his every emotion; his every thought; and providing him with a strange, and mystically 4th-wall-breaking insight: Think critically; how the HELL would Shepard see any of those extraneous things? How would he know the Normandy was crashing? How would he see the whole Mass Effect Relay system blow up? Simple: the Reapers trying to play on his worst fears, in one last ditch effort to screw with his mind. That; or the Reapers were making plans on what to do (if Shep chose one of the other endings), and he sees them while tapped in...

Like I've said before; The universe isn't f*cked; but the Reapers are big enough dicks to make you think so.


That constitutes my full opinion thus far. As mentioned before, there is an extended cut DLC to further explain the ending to ME3 out this summer. I will stand firm on this opinion until then.
