Team Fossils + Commissions opening soon!
Posted 4 months agoLET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!
Hi all! Just finished my first year of grad school and been busy working enjoying the birds. Here in Fairbanks, we had a huge celebration over the weekend to celebrate the Summer Solstice. There was a baseball game that ran past midnight with the stadium lights off (since the sun doesn't go down), and a huge festival that was practically a state fair. I also tabled at an arts walk where proceeds went towards benefiting a local migratory waterfowl refuge. The wildfires here have been a little hectic so I have been spending time indoors instead of being outside. Anyway, I have a little bit of free time this summer to draw and I'm planning to do Artfight and also open some slots for commissions!
I'll be on Team Fossils this year and I'm planning to do a taxonomy challenge. I've drawn lots of wolves, cats, dogs, dragons, etc. but there are many taxa I have not drawn yet. I made an image listing all the FurAffinity species listed in the drop-down submission box. https://www.furaffinity.net/view/56185585/ It's a crude fantasy taxonomy. (The taxonomy on e621 is much more detailed, but I'm not gonna mess with that right now LOL)
I want to challenge myself by drawing every single "species" on this list during Artfight! I can't believe I've never drawn a hippo character before. So, follow me on Artfight and I might attack you! https://artfight.net/~Skoryx
---
ALSO, I am planning to reopen my commissions the same time that ArtFight begins. That way I can do warmups before working on art ppl are paying money for. =:D My prices are similar to last year's prices and I revamped my Carrd. https://skoryx.carrd.co/#
Commissions will reopen on July 1st! I'll have 10 slots open at first, each slot being a separate piece of art. So, one person could order 3 pieces of art and this would take up 3 slots. This will probably be the only time I open commissions this year. I'll post a submission on here when I reopen.
Thank you for looking! Happy summer solstice and happy arting! =:3

I made it to Alaska!
Posted a year agoI spent the last few weeks packing up, traveling, and unpacking at my new apartment here in Alaska. I drove from Tulsa to Fairbanks in my little Toyota Prius, and it was a trip that spanned over 3,600 miles. It was a beautiful drive! Lots of wildlife like bears, elk, deer, and caribou on the road. The worst parts were that there were steep slopes, sections of the road that were unpaved, and lots of potholes.
I start school as a master's student this Monday. I'm studying biology and will be working in a bird lab making study skins; bird taxidermy but for science instead of display! For the next two years, I'll be swamped. You will probably not see me posting much over the next two years, so if I'm quiet, that's why! I still hope to draw when I have free time and will try my best to find some furry friends here in the middle of nowhere. I'm looking forward to taking photos of myself in my suit when there's snow outside!

Alaska!
Posted a year agoI've lived in the landlocked state of Oklahoma all my life. Right now I am working on getting into graduate school in Alaska of all places! If I get accepted, that would be incredible. I'd get my master's as an ~official~ ornithologist.
That would also mean that I'd have to move (duh) and I'd also have much less free time on my hands. I just closed my commissions and don't know when I will reopen, but I have a feeling that I might not open again over the next two years. Thank you to those who commissioned me the past month. I will work on clearing out my queue in my free time, hopefully finishing everything by the end of June!
So, wish me luck! I hope I can go to Alaska to study. It'll be a different experience but I am excited to face new adventures and see new birds!

Life is good!
Posted 2 years agoSometimes when I go hiking/birdwatching and stand still for a moment to take everything in, I think to myself, "Life is amazing"! I am grateful to have ears to hear birds sing and eyes to see them live their lives. Oh, to be a bird, bug, or big tree billowing in the breeze...
It's gotten quite cold, so I haven't been outside as much. I wanted to share that I started a new job about a month ago after getting laid off from my last one. I will never work in a medical laboratory or any medical-related job ever again. Medicine and healthcare are just dismal in every possible way. Anyway, this new job is incredible! I am a chemist at a chemical manufacturing plant. It's not my dream job, since I'd much rather be a biologist than a chemist, but it pays very well and the schedule is nice. I work four days and then have four days off. I pretty much only have to work half the year! The work is also not terribly difficult and I have a lot of downtime.
Recently, I bought an iPad to bring to work to draw and doodle while I'm waiting for things to do at work. I'm very happy and I'm excited to get some more drawing practice in. On the iPad, it is a bit harder to do concise linework compared to doing it on my computer, so I have been producing drawings in a looser, sketchier style. I've decided to feature this as a commission option, which I have not offered before. I have also been trying to get back into doing traditional art after my experience in the artist alley at TTFC. I had some bootleg Copics from Sam's Club and the wrong type of paper. My fellow artist alley companions showed me the magical world of good traditional art supplies (Copics, Ohuhus, and cardstock) and it's so much better than what I was using before. Copic markers are expensive... but nice! I have a decent collection of Copics and Ohuhus now. I want to do more traditional art and am now offering traditional drawings as a commission option, which again, I have not offered before. Both my traditional art options and digital sketch options will be cheaper than my normal options because I'm out of practice (and want to get more practice)! In addition to changing my prices, I've also added more options and new examples on my website. https://skoryx.carrd.co/#
I have also revised my will draw/won't draw list. I'm an adult! You probably are too! I'm now accepting prompts that may be mature/adult/NSFW. I don't draw NSFW very often. The reason, for the most part, is that I identify as asexual and don't find much enjoyment in erotic artwork. Because I have interests in taxidermy, biology, and laboratory science, I think any of my interests classified as mature are because they are morbid instead of erotic. Anyway, I'm open to drawing a variety of topics I was not open to drawing before. Some things are still off-limits but those are disclosed on my website under my TOS section. My website is still under construction but I'm hoping it'll be polished by the start of the new year.
I've got so much to do to prepare for next year! In February, I will be in the artist alley at AnthroExpo 2024. If you are going, please stop by and say hello! It'll be my second time ever tabling. My birthday will be happening during the convention (February 2nd). I'm not sure how I'll celebrate but I know it's going to be fun. I am open to art trades, and any artwork of my sona, Skoryx, would be thoroughly appreciated. Speaking of, I have been commissioning a lot of amazing artists recently! Check out my Toyhouse to see some recent pieces I've gotten of him. https://toyhou.se/992067.skoryx
I visited an exotic pet store a few days ago and saw tailless whip scorpions for sale. I've always wanted a pet tarantula but my boyfriend will not let me keep one in our apartment out of his fear of crawly things. However, he is a bit less scared of the idea of me having a tailless whip scorpion (even though some people argue they are scarier), so I may be getting a new pet soon. I'll have to do my research but I think I could take good care of such a creature, and it would be lovely having an exotic invertebrate pet. I'm trying to think of names but all the ones I'm coming up with are silly. I'm thinking of "Cool Whip", "Whip Khalifa" or "Whip-poor-will"... Perhaps one of you could suggest a name for my future pet!
I'm happy that I have made so much progress these last few months, getting a new job and enjoying my hobbies again. I was in a very dark place last year for a while. I was so depressed that I would spend all day in bed and didn't have any energy to get up. Sometimes I felt like I lacked the energy to even talk. If you are in a dark place too, know that things will get better one day. I am rooting for you! Don't forget to go outside, even though it might be cold, to admire nature and life going on around you, on a scale many times smaller than your own. Life is good! I hope you can enjoy it. Feel free to share anything interesting you might've seen/experienced out in nature recently.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! I'll likely make another update whenever my commissions reopen. =:) <3

Commissions closing Nov. 1st!
Posted 2 years agoHi all! I have big news to share. I got a new job recently! I started last week and it is a very demanding but exciting opportunity for me. I am now a chemist at a large chemical manufacturing company and it pays pretty well. The downside is that I have to work a lot. It requires me to work four 12-hour shifts every week with a rotating day/night shift, so that'll definitely be hard on my body, but I hope I can adjust quickly.
Because this new job is taking up a lot of my time and also is paying me quite decently, I've decided to close my commissions and increase my prices whenever I reopen. My commissions will be closing on November 1st and will stay closed indefinitely until I finish my current queue. I expect my new prices will be about double what they currently are, so if you want to commission me... now is a good time! All new commission requests will be finished by the end of 2023.
Check out my website for options and prices. https://skoryx.carrd.co/
Thanks for looking!

I want to go to ACFI!
Posted 2 years agoHey everyone! I just found out about ACFI (Alamo City Furry Invasion) a few days ago. I had no prior plans to go. I haven't registered and I don't have a room yet. Part of me says, "ya crazy, ya can't go ya dummy", and another part of me is challenging myself, saying, "DON'T LET YOUR DREAMS BE DREAMS!"
So, I am trying to figure out how I can make my trip to ACFI a reality. I can drive myself but I'm working on scrounging up enough money to pay for the trip, as well as trying to find a place to stay. My goal is to somehow come up with $500 by that weekend to cover travel, registration, food, and rooming expenses!
Recent post: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/53905138/
Please consider commissioning me or telling your friends that my commissions are OPEN! https://skoryx.carrd.co/#
Or, consider sending a tip my way. https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/skoryx
Anything is appreciated. Let me know if you are looking to roomshare or know someone who is. If I'm not close to reaching my goal, I'll probably save up to go to a different con or use the money to pay off bills. :'D Thank you for looking!

Commissions closed! + Update (November 2022)
Posted 3 years agoHi all!
Seasonal depression is something that affects a lot of people annually, myself included. Now that the days are getting shorter and the weather colder, I feel dreary and less motivated. I also feel lonely, lost in life, and desperately want change. I need to get myself together and work toward what I want for my future. It's a goal of mine to get into graduate school, and I really need to focus on that.
Commissions are now closed indefinitely. I don't know when they will reopen. I will finish my current queue, which can be viewed here: https://trello.com/b/Ke3fB31A/skory.....mmission-queue It's been fun drawing for so many people these past few months, and thank you to all of my clients for your support!
My boyfriend and I moved into our first apartment a few months ago and we're still adjusting, but enjoying it. At home, I have a fish tank with three pond loaches and some mystery snails and I love them very much. My current job is still fun, but I'm seeking a change of pace: perhaps in a different laboratory setting. When I'm not working, I'm trying to devote time to my hobbies: birdwatching, hiking, and skinning birds. I've been playing Overwatch 2 since its release but I get so dizzy playing that I have yet to get "good" at it.
I hope you are all well and that great things happen before the end of the year comes. Feel free to chat with me on my Discord @ Skoryx#8780 .

PWYW and doodley commissions open + updates!
Posted 3 years agoHi all! I recently graduated from university and am trying to find a full-time job, but in the meantime, I am trying to get back into drawing. Currently, I am working as a chemistry technician at my local aquarium and it's a really fun job, but the pay isn't great. Plus, I am wanting to get a place with my boyfriend, so I gotta start saving. 8')
My doodley commissions are currently open. Headshot doodleys are $5 USD each, and full-body doodleys are $10 each. You can find examples here: https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery.....02563/Doodleys
I also have PWYW full-body commissions open. I haven't done PWYW commissions in a very long time and will not have them open for long, but I just wanted to offer something new. There are 5 slots open and you can find more information about them here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/48199798/
If you are interested in getting something, you may DM me or contact me through my Discord at Skoryx#8780.
I am hoping to open my regular commissions sometime in August. Prices will be changing. Doodley commission prices are also slated to change, so if you want them at their current price... get them now!
Thank you for looking, and thank you all for the support! I'm always around to chat about things other than art, too!

PWYW + doodley commissions opening soon...
Posted 4 years agoTHEY AIn'T OPEN yET HOLD ON
I am entertaining the idea of opening pay what you want (PWYW) experimental commissions since I am a bit out of practice with my drawing, but also, having money for food would be nice!
I've never done PWYW experimental commissions before, but I have seen others do it. Sometimes people call them "wing-it" commissions. What will happen is you can send me your OC(s) and loose ideas, pay me any amount of money you want, and I will draw something based on what I feel like doing! If you tell me to draw something in a specific style or with a very specific prompt, I will decline it. I'm thinking I will set a $1 minimum but spend about an hour on drawing something for every $10 I'm sent. I may draw sketches, icons, chibis, painterly stuff, whatever I am feeling. SFW only, turnaround time is variable.
Doodley commissions will also probably reopen at the same time.
Icons will be $5 USD https://www.furaffinity.net/view/41621038/
Full-bodies will be $10 USD https://www.furaffinity.net/view/41620964/
I'll post another journal when I decide to open these!

Update on me! (July 2021)
Posted 4 years agoIt's a-me, Skoryx! Welcome to my once-a-year update on myself since I am the kind of person that prefers to post one big update instead of small, frequent updates (But maybe you guys prefer the latter option? Anyway, we're going with the former for now).
Most days, I go to work at 8 AM and sit at my desk doing repetitive tasks and staring at a computer screen until 5 PM. When I refer to “work”, it’s not me drawing, it’s me at either my first job (where I’m working for a water testing lab and getting paid well) or my second laboratory job (where I’m doing research on salamander keratin genes and not getting paid). Nothing very exciting happens during the days when I am working, and when I get home, I have to do chores and eat and I’m too exhausted to do stuff for fun, like making art.
I spend all day staring at screens, and when I get home, the last thing I want to do is stare at more screens. Since digital art is the main form of art I do, me avoiding my laptop means I’ve been avoiding digital art, too. Plus, I earn more working than I do when making art.
So, as you have noticed, I have not been active here for the past few months because I’ve been busy working, and trying to get my life figured out, and also spending time with family and friends, and therefore have thrown my art life in the back drawer and haven’t focused on it at all.
I meant to reopen commissions in June of 2021, as I’ve been telling people for the past year when asked about commissions, but unfortunately, I’m very out of practice and I’m not ready to start drawing for other people for money yet. I have been having trouble drawing for myself recently, too. I have considered doing Artfight this year just so I have some sort of motivation to draw, but I haven’t completely set up my profile on there yet. You can see my profile here: https://artfight.net/~Skoryx
It has also been hard trying to keep an active online presence on so many websites, and now that DeviantArt is falling out of popularity, I’m not sure how to stay relevant. I think a lot of artists are using Instagram and Twitter and Amino nowadays, and so I may need to transition to using those sites, but I’ll still stay loyal to the site I started on, which is DeviantArt. If you want to see what other sites I’m on, you can go here: https://linktr.ee/skoryx
So, while I’ve been exhausted by work and have put art to the side, I do have some positive things that have happened to me recently. My health has improved as compared to last year since I’ve been getting out of my house more and exercising, and now I have taken my hobby of birdwatching and photography more seriously. I have lots of high-quality bird photos to share with the world, but I have not quite found a place to post them yet. Do you have any recommendations for a good place to share photography? I’ll post an update whenever I get a photography website set up.
I am not sure when I will post another update, and I am not sure when I will reopen commissions, and I am not sure when I will be able to draw confidently again, and I’m not sure where my life is going, but I’ll figure it out eventually! I hope all of you are doing well, there are a lot of people I miss talking to, but I am still active as an art-watcher and not an art-creator and still engage with the community when I can.
TL;DR: Working two jobs has made it hard for me to make any art. I’ve been inactive on my websites because of this. Maybe when I quit my jobs/graduate/get my life figured out, I can draw and offer commissions again.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
Most days, I go to work at 8 AM and sit at my desk doing repetitive tasks and staring at a computer screen until 5 PM. Update on me! (August 2020)
Posted 5 years agoHey all, welcome to my once-a-year update on myself!
After being open for about three months, thank you to everybody who commissioned me. I am closing commissions for now, and they will not be opening again until about June 2021 since I will be too busy to draw. I'll still finish up artwork that I currently owe, and you can view that at my Trello queue here: https://trello.com/b/Ke3fB31A/skoryxs-art-queue
In two weeks, I'm going back to university and attending classes in-person, even with the pandemic going on, so that will be a bit scary but I just have to power through it. I'm working two non-art-related part-time jobs, one at a water testing laboratory and another in an osteology laboratory. So, I will be very, very busy!
I will still be working on art and posting here, just not as frequently. If you'd like to support me still, you can buy things from my Etsy shop! https://www.etsy.com/shop/skoryxstudios
Please stay safe and wear masks wherever you go. Wishing you all good health and a good rest of your year. :)

Update on me (August 2019)
Posted 6 years agoHello all! This journal is to outline how my future is looking and how it may affect my activity here on FA.
Commissions are CLOSED as of August 2019 and are not guaranteed to open until Summer of 2020. My commissions may open earlier if I am lucky, but it is not likely.
This is due to the fact that I am beginning school this month and I will also be working a job at the same time, so I will not have much free time and therefore will not be able to draw very much.
The commissions that I owe will still be completed, but very slowly. You can check my commission queue here: https://trello.com/b/Ke3fB31A/skoryxs-art-queue
I am a little bit in a rough patch right now for various reasons, but I definitely have been feeling stressed and sad recently. This also prevents me from drawing as much as I'd like, but I know I will feel better with time.
If you'd like to continue to support me, I do have an Etsy shop you can buy things from! https://www.etsy.com/shop/skoryxstudios
Thank you for reading my journal.

I will keep commissions open until August 2019, which is when I have to get ready to go back to school. So if you want some art, now's the time to get it. Thank you for looking, and note me if you're interested in getting something! Update on me! (May 2019)
Posted 6 years agoHowdy y'all! Thanks to everyone who continues to watch me and support my artwork here on FA.
I am still drawing, making artwork, and breathing. I wanted to make an update since I haven't done a journal in about a year. I have said that I would open up commissions this summer (and summer is quickly approaching) but I have found myself busier than expected. I start a new job on Monday and will be working a lot, so I will have less time to draw. Plus I am taking classes this summer too which means I'll have even less time to draw. . . and sleep.
If you are interested in commissioning me, please view my Trello to see my status as well as what's on my plate. https://trello.com/b/Ke3fB31A/skoryxs-art-queue
Also, you can get art from me year-round from my Etsy shop. https://www.etsy.com/shop/skoryxstudios

Posted 8 years agoI'm having a little bit of trouble with life right now and I will return when things get a little better. I'm so sorry.
Update on me!
Posted 8 years agoSorry for all the recent art spam! I like to post all my art at once rather than spreading it out to make sure I don't forget to post some of my pieces.
I've been busy with school recently and I may be starting a new job soon so I'll have less time for art, though I know I still owe some people artwork. I'm really sorry for the wait!
My goal is to finish what I owe by the end of September and hopefully, I can open up commissions again soon.
Just as a heads-up, my old commission information is no longer valid and I am working on updating the prices. They will be updated by the time commissions reopen.
As for me, I'm fine, just very busy. I'm juggling a lot of things at the moment but I'm doing well and I'm trying not to stress myself out too much.
I hope everyone is having a great week! If anyone has any questions or concerns then please let me know via notes.
