Back From MFF!
General | Posted 9 years agoHi everyone!
MFF was so much fun! I went to a bunch of cool panels, hung out with friends, got to meet online friends in person, and took lots of pics of fursuiters! I got some commissions too. I'll scan two of them over the weekend, and the third was a take home commission, so i'll get that one later this month. I hope to go back next year! If you were at MFF, what were some of your favorite memories?

What Characters Should Be in My Next Story?
General | Posted 9 years agoFAU/Mungo Art/Drawing My Characters
General | Posted 9 years agoI was at FAU this past weekend. Compared to AC, this con was a lot less hectic. I mostly just played games, including trying out the Vive for the first time, meeting people like
patto and
wintersnowolf, and taking pictures of fursuits. I didn't commission anyone at the con, but i've got art coming, so don't you worry.
Speaking of art,
Ian_R_Soulfox drew a couple lovely non-canon pics of Mungo: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20860209/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20860372/
Why aren't they in my gallery? Ian asked if he could draw Mungo. Since I didn't commission him, I don't own the pics, so it doesn't feel right for me to upload the art. That said, please go show some love to Ian and Mungo by faving and commenting!
This also brings up another topic. I've been asked more than once now by artists if they could draw my characters. In most cases, as long as you email or note me first to ask, i'll most likely say yes.

AC Report
General | Posted 9 years agoHi everyone!
I had a wonderful time at my first ever AC! It was great not only seeing folks I hadn't seen in a while, but meeting people for the first time in person! The weekend was filled with a number of great moments, but if I had to pick out a couple, it would be getting to fursuit for the first time thanks to
suntattoowolf, with a pic of me in suit here: https://twitter.com/Suntattoowolf/status/749419763797983232, and being on a Fangs and Fonts Shit Writers Say podcast! I hope to make AC a yearly trip!
I've mentioned this before, but you can see my story, "A Rock Among Millions" in ROAR 7 and "Nuclear Cocktails" in FANG 7, both of which debuted at AC this year. I put links below:

ROAR 7 Ebook: https://baddogbooks.com/?product=roar-volume-7

I also got commissions from

cooner. I'll post those once I can scanned them, which will be sometime this weekend. You can see the Kour commission here: https://twitter.com/ArtKour/status/.....77857184067584

Fur The More Con Report
General | Posted 9 years agoI had a great time at the convention! This was a smaller con than i'm used to, but it didn't feel as hectic to me. I had plenty of time to hang out with friends and I wasn't dashing around from one panel to another.
It was great seeing folks from RAWR and meeting
chasereynard in person! Going to the
Novafurs panel was eye opening. I didn't know so many furries were in the area! I also got to do a bit more video gaming and board gaming than I did in at the past couple cons I attended, which was fun. I didn't end up commissioning anyone, but that just means i'll have more money to commission artists at the next con I attend: AC!

RAWR / FC / Future Cons / FA Stories / Editing Commissions?
General | Posted 10 years agoHi folks!
I'm back home from a fun week and a half in San Jose! I flew over to the west coast on the 9th for the first ever RAWR (Regional Anthropomorphic Writing Retreat). What followed was an intense few days of writing, revising, and critiquing the work of the other attendees. I was lucky enough to get feedback from some talented writers, including
kyell, who led the workshop, and Ryan Campbell, author of God of Clay and Koa of the Drowned Kingdom, among other books. I even had one-on-one meetings with Kyell Gold and Ryan Campbell. The best part was becoming closer with my fellow attendees and knowing we can count on one another in the future for honest critiques. If you want to improve your writing, I highly recommend RAWR. It opens applications sometime in late spring. If you have any questions about RAWR, feel free to ask me.
The last day of RAWR was the Thursday of FC. I didn't go to as many panels as I have in previous cons, but I spent more time hanging out with people. I tend to wander on my own a lot during cons, so spending time with others was great and made me feel closer to the fandom. I got commissions from
rukis,
louvelex, and
mitti, which i'll upload once I find a scanner that will cooperate. Louvelex uploaded the pic she did for me on Twitter, which is here: https://twitter.com/truffke . I got to take a bunch of fursuit pictures, which is helpful since I want to select a fursuit maker and put a downpayment on a fursuit this year. I got to see/meet
kour,
kenket,
-lofi,
karwood,
kamui,
rikoshi,
ishaway,
gully,
foxpaws-zupe, and
donryu (if I forgot your name, I apologize!). There were also a lot of places to eat nearby, which was good. I also successfully bid on an original Rukis and Kenket interior art piece for Kyell Gold's Over Time for a RAWR attendee who couldn't make it to the convention. Art show bidding and auction are stressful, but quite the rush! Speaking of art shows, one of the art show workers happened to be someone I went to college with, so it was cool running into her like that.
Nothing is set in stone yet, but since I'm so close to it, i'll most likely attend FtM this year. It's also less expensive than flying out for TFF or FWA, which are both fun. I also plan to attend AC this year. I wish I had a Chester fursuit since the theme is Roaring 20. It's too soon to tell what other cons i'll be at, but i've thought about MFF or potentially RF or Furpocolypse. Part of this will come down to what job I can find.
RAWR and FC have helped me realize that I want to give more of myself to the fandom, so I want to upload more writing here on FA. These will mostly likely be little stories featuring my characters or longer continuing works.
I've also thought about doing editing commissions for folks who want some help improving their stories. I'm not opening for these yet, but would anyone be interested in this? I still need to figure out how much I would charge for this.

Attending RAWR!
General | Posted 10 years agoI got approval to announce that i've been accepted into the first year of the Regional Anthropomorphic Writer's Retreat (RAWR)! I'm thrilled to be going since I not only want to improve my writing, but I get to become closer to the furry writing community. Also, it's the reason i'll be in town for FC this year.
What is RAWR? This is directly from the website: Come spend five days writing and critiquing stories with other furry writers from across the world! The workshop will be led by Kyell Gold and may feature special lectures from other published furry writers.
This is a great opportunity for you to meet and bond with a small group of other writers in the fandom, a relationship that can continue beyond the workshop for years to come.
RAWR is closed for applications, but if you want to learn more and perhaps apply next year, take a look at the site: http://www.rawr.community/
And here's a link to the Twitter page: https://twitter.com/RAWRWorkshop
I'd love to hear who else is attending RAWR or if you'll be at FC!

Going to FC / FC Questions
General | Posted 10 years agoI really do need to start planning on going to cons earlier, but i'll be at FC this year! Who else will be there?
I also had a couple questions for folks who've been before. The con goes through Monday, if I read the site correctly. Does anything significant other than the closing ceremonies happen on Monday? Is the Dealer's Den even open that day? I'm trying to decide of staying on Monday is worth it.
Also, i'm staying in the Fairmont hotel. What's the Fairmont like? According to FC's hotel page, there's a nice bakery there and it's the quietest of the hotels, but is there anything else I need to know?
I'm looking forward to seeing you folks there!

Rainfurrest Post Con Report
General | Posted 10 years agoRainfurrest was a lot of fun and i'm glad I went! It was good to visit the Seattle area. That, and I needed my furry book and fursuit fix. The writing panels I went to were informative. I heard Rainfurrest has a big focus on writing and it showed with all the panels they had! I stayed at the Clarion and while it was a bit inconvenient not to be in the con hotel, it was a short walk away. Still, i'll try to get a room in the con hotel for all future cons. It also blows my mind whenever someone mentions they've seen the art i've commissioned and how they like my characters. I'm happy people enjoy them so much and hope to please you folks more in the future!
Thursday seemed a bit slow, though I imagine a lot of people were still traveling to the con or had work that day. I commissioned
mitti, who does lovely work! I also got to say hello to
rukis, who is an amazing author and artist. That night, I joined the writing competition and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Writing a good 2,000-5,000-word story in less than 48 hours is hard enough, but trying to do everything else I wanted to do at the con left me strapped for time.
Friday was a busy day for me since I wanted to go to a bunch of panels that day. I particularly enjoyed the Kaffeeklatsch. Not only did I get a good breakfast, but I got to hang out with a bunch of cool and friendly writers. Furry has been a wonderful community and being a part of the furry writing community makes me feel even more welcomed. I bought most of my books that day from
furplanet and commissioned
cooner for the first time (both art commissioned I go will be posted in the next day or two). I attended my first fursuiting panel, led by the lovely
temperance. I hope to save up for a partial fursuit of Chester, so this was a great look into what to expect. I hope I don't pass out from the heat or accidentally knee a small child in the face. The panel on Rocket Raccoon was also pretty entertaining.
Saturday started with Cartoons and Cereal, which was a great way to kick off the day. I sat with Temperance, along with
voice and
yannarra, who are both part of
fangsandfonts. The show started a little late, but we watched Dungeons and Dragons, one of the Thundercats reboots, and Gummi Bears. Redwall was last, but I think there was some computer troubles. I wish more cons put on this event. I had some time until the next panel I wanted to attend, so I finished the edits to my story for the writing competition. It felt great to get that out of the way. While i'm happy I did it, I may think twice before entering another contest like that. I went to a reading held by
kyell and got to hear part of Love Match, a story he's releasing bit by bit through Patreon. It features a tennis player, and since I played a lot of tennis in my younger days, I can't wait for this story to go into print. In the evening, I joined a Super Smash Bros. Wii U competition. Even though I got wrecked, I met
skylerbunny, who i've spoken to when
betsy streams. If you enjoy Betsy's art and streams, thank Skyler for helping her with tech stuff and ensuring her future streams will happen with less technical hiccups. After that, I went to the release party for the charity anthology. This was easily the best moment of the con for me. Not only did I finally get a copy of the anthology I was published in, everyone signed each others' copies. The anthology sold out at the con, so thank you to the folks who bought it!
Sunday was much less hectic, but also a bit sad and tiring since it's the final day of the con. I finally got to play Cards Against Humanity. I didn't game as much at this con than at TFF and FWA, so it was great to get some gaming in. I also got to meet
toulouse and
~ludo and thank Ludo for the art he's done for me in the past. Before the electronic gaming room closed, I managed to win my first ever game of Super Smash Bros Wii U at a fur con. I was playing as King Dedede, for those of you who want to know.
I had a few observations about the con. First, while I enjoyed a lot of the fursuits at the con, I felt like those with winged fursuits were particularly spot on. Hats off to you birbs and bats! Also, I must have seen at least a dozen different guys in kilts. Finally, if Rainfurrest particularly known for having a large cub fur presence? I felt like there was more at this con than TFF and FWA combined.
I don't have any concrete plans for my next con, but I may try to go to FC. I also want to apply for RAWR, the Regional Anthropomorphic Writer's Retreat, which is right before FC.

Rainfurrest
General | Posted 10 years agoI'll be at Rainfurrest, as i've mentioned before. I'll arrive Wednesday night and fly back home Monday morning. I plan on attending a bunch of writing panels and a couple of fursuit panels since i'm interested in fursuiting in the future. In between all that, I hope to spend some time in the board game and video game rooms. Maybe i'll check out the city on Sunday. I've been to Seattle a couple times in the past, but this is my first time here for RF.
Let me know if you're going to be there! If you are, I recommend you pick up a copy of RF's Charity Anthology, "A Menagerie of Heroes." Not only do the proceeds go to charity, it includes my first published story in the fandom, "The Pendant of Westbriar Swamp." It even has an art piece done by the wonderful
cadmiumtea! If you like your stories on the NSFW side, there is also an adult anthology, "Enter at your own Risk, and the proceeds for that anthology also go to charity.
furplanet has a lot of books being released for this convention, so i'd encourage folks to stop by their table.

General | Posted 10 years agoI moved out of Florida and have moved back in with my parents temporarily while I look for work. I'll miss Florida because of my friends and because I was so close to Disney and Universal, but I won't miss the bugs, the flooding when it rained, or the drivers. Hopefully I'll land a job before the end of the summer or, at the latest, by the end of the year. I love my parents, but I want the independence that comes with not living with them. I want to find a job that will give me enough money to support myself, but that may take some time to find.
