the passing of a friend

athus aka Brian Dyer
On Tuesday the 11th of October 2011, Athus was involved in a severe car collision that ended his time here with us. The 29 years of his life were filled with amazing stories, incredible adventures and outstanding creativity and talent. He shared his love of life, affection for others and sense of humor with many wonderful people. In memory of Athus and his special life, his closest kin have created a website for others to share their experiences with Athus as well as share photos and artwork. An email address has been established to send your wishes in to be posted on the site athus@athusnadorian.com. Thank you for your kind words, love and support through all of this. Remember to love life, hold your friends close and have a little fun - Athus wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
Please visit the site we have established https://www.athusnadorian.com and use the email address athus[at]athusnadorian.com to share your wishes to allow time for his closest kin to mourn peacefully.

mekolai is looking for some commissions so she can get something nice for her birthday! :Dhttp://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2790013/
Emergency comissions are CLOSED.
General | Posted 14 years agoGod dammit. I'm getting so far behind on these, but I don't have a choice...
I am offering commissions at $30 a picture, inks at $20 a picture, and icons at $10 an icon.
For $20 and $30 pictures, I offer a digital copy of the picture, since my work is nearly entirely digital. At $30, I also offer a WIP for your scrutiny, to make sure I'm on the right track, but please be reasonable when asking for alterations!
Commissions are on a first come, first serve basis, based on who replies in this journal. If for whatever reason the person cannot, or decides against a commission, then the person who replied under them will get the spot. Commissions will be done five at a time, with a new call for first come, first serve commissions once the previous five have been completed.
Details will be taken to e-mail or notes, so just let me know if you're interested in a commission, and we'll go from there!
For the commissions themselves, just a few things to keep in mind when commissioning me!
-As of right now, I only accept payment through paypal.
- I do not do "squick" or "controversial" subjects. Scat or cub for example. If I am not alright with something, I'll mention it in the details notes and we can work together to find alternatives that I'm alright with.
-I don't do "fan-art" pictures. So no Spyros or Starfoxes or the like. This mostly stems from my belief that I am far from ready to do these characters anything resembling justice, so I'm steering clear for now. If it's fan-art of other peoples characters, I will be contacting them to confirm it is alright with them. This means no suprise pictures. Sorry.
-I work best at one to three characters with a background. Anymore than three characters might be subjected to a bit of an addition cost, due to the increasing complexity of the picture. Just remember. The more characters there are, the less you'll probably see.
My current commission overflow WILL be finished before I start these.

General | Posted 14 years agoWell, most of it.
I just finished uninstalling all my multiplayer games and I'm only going to be playing single player and perhaps the occasional co-op one. One of my friends noted just how unhappy I was trying to play with other people and its true. It doesn't help that my computer is a dinosaur, my wifi adapter has the same reception quality as a guy with a metal plate in his head, and my connection might as well be a boy scout trying to signal with flags.
These things make even basic games frustratingly difficult endevours. I also happen to be a rather vitriolic player, and the headaches I get tend to worsen my mood (and mouth) which makes my headache worse, ad infinitum...
I'm tired of the headaches, I'm tired of the frustration, and I'm tired of dealing with it.
One more hobby that I've given up. I really don't have anything left.

General | Posted 14 years agoWell, this has been an exceptionally rough month for me, so for this month, I am accepting ten people for commissions, rather than the standard five.

General | Posted 14 years agoAgain, I'd like to thank everybody for their input on my 'character' journal. There was a lot more replies than I ever expected, and a lot of very well thought-out and insightful comments for me to mull over.
The short of it is, I won't be giving up Sky, nor 'demoting' him. I've been him for so long, it's difficult to imagine myself as anything BUT him. He does need an overhaul though, to better reflect current times, and attitudes. I will also introduce several 'secondary' personas that tie directly into my settings.
It's little known that I do, in fact, have a couple settings (well, settingish) locales that all my characters all participate in. I've never had an opportunity to explore these, and I had a fun project idea to do once my current financial crisis is resolved, and all comissions are complete.
As I said, these personas will be very setting specific in most cases.
So far, I've begun narrowing down interesting species I might enjoy exploring. The settings themselves will remain vague until I'm ready for my project.
As of right now, I'm looking into these for potential character material:
1. DINOSAUR (leaning towards Allosaurus, but hardosaurs, pteradactyl, and several others have crossed my mind.)
2. MARINE (Marine mammals, mollusks, and picine species. Stingray and especially Barracuda have been wedged into my imagination.)
Just thought you'd all like an update. :)

A possible persona change?
General | Posted 14 years agoI know I've posted journals about it before, but the urge to leave Sky behind and start anew has been something gnawing at me for several years now. Mostly, recent years have made me realize the goofy, lusty wyvern just... isn't really me any more. I haven't felt that way in years. People seem to have certain expectations when they see Sky, due to past behavior and indescresions.
At the same time, before I went (mostly) offline I was experimenting with an assortment of characters on various mucks & IRCs to see how far I could get by myself. The results weren't very encouraging. I guess what I'm trying to get at is that as much as I'd want to change, I'm afraid I'd lose a lot of things I've gained as SkyShadow too.
Enough ramble. Anybody have any ideas for fun and interesting species? I might draw a few in between my commissions!

Fuck LJ
General | Posted 14 years agoAfter deleting an entry-in-progress four times in a row pertaining to my adventures in and out of minor emergency all week, I've officially had it with LiveJournal. That shit took me a good 15 minutes to write on this phone and if I have to do it multiple times? Screw that noise.
Not that I ever had anything particularly uplifting to write about in recent years.
So yeah, this is mostly for those who watch me on there as well, since LJ is a hoebag and will not let me inform them on there that I'm shutting the journal down soon.

General | Posted 15 years agoTo anybody who uses SAI:
Is anybody else having a problem with the program refusing to save vector layers in .PSD format? Every time I open a picture I'm working on, I find all my vector layers are converted to regular pen lines. It's very annoying. :(

Moving
General | Posted 15 years agoWell, today is my last day here. I'm half packed already. It's nice when you can fit everything in two boxes.
I might be able to update on occasion off of my phone, but it's a right pain in the ass whenever I try, so I'll mostly be in lurk mode until I can get a connection again. I'll try to reply to messages when I am able to, but please be patient with me in that matter. I am also going to be posting commission stuff when it's complete.
Still no clue when I'll be coming out the other side of this.
Take care everybody!

A period of transition.
General | Posted 15 years agoI knew I would be moving eventually. I was just hoping it would happen next year instead of, you know, next week...
So it looks like I'm going to be mostly internetless except for (maybe) a slim connection through my phone. It's not a lot, but it'll be enough to allow me to continue to make and post commissions when they are completed, but I'll pretty much be completely vacant on the few chat programs I occasionally haunt, as well as any sort of online gaming for the forseeable future.
And the cherry on top? I finally got a call back about a job I was interested in. But I had to turn them down, since I'd only be on the job one or two days before moving.
FML indeed.

'Streamlining' my online presence.
General | Posted 15 years agoI've been looking to make some changes to my life, both online and off.
First and formost, I'm spending far to much time online and I'm looking to rectify that.
As such, I'm closing most of my galleries except for FA (my main) and VCL (my backup). Most of my seldom-used-messengers are getting nuked and several forums I've joined and not used will also be getting kiaboshed.
Also thinking of a better e-mail.
derp.

Gone for the holidays!
General | Posted 15 years agoI'll be heading out for the holidays and probably won't be back till around/after new years.
My folks place is bother TVless and internetless, so I'll have a whole lot of time to myself. Perhaps to get a few art things. Maybe explore some indie games that I've downloaded but never played.
Happy holidays all!

General | Posted 15 years agoI was going to post something about how unproductive art has been lately, aside from one art jam day and various pieces in various stages of completion, but I accidently clicked away and lost my big post.
So heres my art jam pictures, more to come soon. I hope.
