♪ La, La la la, La la la♪More Doodle Day Updates!
Posted 13 years agoI haven't forgotten about you guys, I swear! I'm just finishing up my pre-Anthrocon orders, which will all be finished on Tuesday. Doodles continue on Wednesday! And for the curious, I'm not going to Anthrocon this year. Next year, though!
Doodle Day Updates!
Posted 13 years agoSorry for taking a bit longer with this doodle batch. Coloring makes them take longer. Plus I'm working on both art and costume pieces that need to be finished by Anthrocon, which is less than a month away! I'm not going, but my artwork will be! I promise I'll finish everyone's doodles as soon as possible.
The next doodle day will be a special 1-day Super Duper Doodle Day to raise money for my tiny dog Jacques, who's been dealing with a rotten tooth for a year now. It makes is breath smell horrendous and he need to get it pulled out. It would alleviate both his breath and the chance of him getting an infection. He's almost eight years old but he's still got at least six years left in him! We want him to live as long as he can and getting his bad tooth pulled would help. We only have about $120 of the $700 we need, so anything you guys can contribute would help. =] All the doodles in this doodle day will be in color, but you have to tip something. No free ones this time around.
ANOTHER THING. I've come up with a new rule for the regular Doodle Days. Each user is only allowed ONE free doodle from me, and can not get two consecutive free doodles.
Example: If you received a free doodle in Doodle Day 2, you are not allowed to get a free one in Doodle Day 3. You will either have to leave me a tip or wait until Doodle Day 4.
This rule will be retroactive, which means if you just received (or are waiting to receive) a free doodle from me you can't get one next time without tipping. This measure is to prevent people from repeatedly mooching off of me for free art. Because even though I'm being generous, it can get to a point where I perceive it as mooching. =]

Protip #1: Free Art
Posted 13 years agoWhen requesting free artwork (when free art is being given away, of course) always thank the artist when you make the request. Don't just dump your ref sheet on their page. And always thank them when you receive the finished piece. Don't just post the piece in your gallery without responding to the comment/message the artist left when they gave it to you. Both the former and the latter are extremely rude.
A free art giveaway isn't a promotional event at a baseball game. Art is not a bumper sticker or a stress ball or a key chain that you pick up off a table. It's a customized thing that was made just for you by someone who bothered to take time out of their life to make something specifically for you and just for you. And that person was nice enough to not expect anything other than a "Thank you" in return.
Seriously, you guys. A friend and I are loosely planning on holding an art appreciation panel at Anthrocon 2013. We think a lot of the fandom needs it.

Free "Furry" Badges-- just pay shipping!
Posted 13 years agoFor those who are unfamiliar with the style of artwork I've been submitting to the Anthrocon Art Show for the past couple of years, I must let you know that I'm not an anthro artist. I'm a furry artist. I draw furries, meaning the people themselves and not their fursonas or what have you.
Years ago I tried a concept of drawing specialty badges of both a person's fursona, as well as a portrait of themselves. I'd like to try that concept again, only using just the human portrait. Like this! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7615104/
Would you like to help me? I would like to have four examples to show before trying to sell them. So if anyone would like to lend me their face I'll draw you a badge for free! But if you want me to mail the finished product it to you it'll be $2.50. The badge would have your furry name on it, by the way. Mine says 'Jess' because I don't go by my old furry name anymore. =]
Slots (for free!)
1.
sontock
2.
mekvyper
3.
toraie
4.
jazlehwolf
I filled all the slots! Thanks, guys! To everyone else interested, I will be selling these as soon as I'm done with the sample ones. Probably for $10 + shipping like my usual badges are.
And don't forget, I re-open for more Doodle Day requests tomorrow! I finished the first batch today. =]

Oh FA
Posted 13 years agoDon't you love how FA's "site updates" consist of useless features that nobody asked for instead of basic features that pretty much every other art website already has?
And when I say "don't you love it" what I really mean is "don't you fucking hate it."
The mechanics of this website are really pissing me off, it's like living in the stone ages here. Why can't someone code something that has more features that FurAffinity but isn't quite as complicated as DeviantART?

On fursuits
Posted 13 years agoI haven't been in the furry fandom terribly long (6 years), but I remember when fursuits used to look something like this at times: http://www.furryforest.com/fursuit/.....03tunicfox.jpg
I liked these fursuits! They were fun, charming and had a lot of character. But now having a head that big on a fursuit is unappealing or uncool. So now you have to have a fursuit that looks like this to have your suit not look "cheap." http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l.....jr39o1_500.jpg
I miss old fursuits. A lot of new fursuits look really mass-produced. I like the semi-mascot semi-fursuit look that used to be common way back when.

Doodle Day 2 coming soon!
Posted 13 years agoHowdy!
Just giving you guys a heads up that I'll be opening for a second round of Doodle Day requests for tips on Monday, April 30th. I'm almost done with the current requests, I think I have nine left at this point. They're fun to draw and it's nice when people thank me for my work!
In other news I also do badges, in case you guys didn't know. They're traditional media and $12 laminated, clipped and shipped. Just... putting that out there.
In other other news,
egotist and I are writing/illustrating a kids' book about bunnies in an office and being thankful for others. BUNNIES. I'm getting back into the swing of working on personal art projects since costume work is pretty lax right now.

A brief FWA recap
Posted 13 years agoExcerpted from an LJ entry I wrote:
The convetion itself was okay, I guess. I remember it being a lot better the last time I went. The hotel's convention space was pretty nice, but I didn't like the hotel itself. The rooms were small, the bathrooms were tiny and you had to pay $13 a day for internet, so I went web-less for the weekend.
I spent most of my time in Artist's Alley selling inked cartoon sketches. I sold $70-worth, which was nice, but I didn't break even with the cost of going down there. Most people seemed to be more interested in fursuiting and/or getting drunk at that convention than actuall buying things, and I got that same feelign from a few artists/dealers that I talked to. I still had a decent time and don't regret going, but that part did kind of suck.
I don't think I'll be going to furry cons terribly often anymore. The pretending-to-be-an-animal-person aspect of the fandom doens't interest me anymore. I even made a Toon Jess badge to wear there! So other than the raves and selling art and maybe playing a couple of video games, there's nothing at cons that I want to do. If I can't make a decent amount of money while I'm there I feel it's not worth my money to go. I might try Anthrocon next year and see what happens. I've had good luck with their art show the past two years.
I'm going to refer to this con as FratBoy Weekend Atlanta from now on. It was kind of a boozefest and all about partying, which is okay for some people, but not for me. I don't come to cons to make friends, I come to make money. So I won't be going to FWA anymore. It used to be a lot better! But I don't really feel it's operated too well these days. That and the general atmosphere of the con isn't one that I care for.

Um... hello?
Posted 13 years agoAm I the only one who's greatly bothered by the notion that a piece of clean, fun, cartoon artwork can take up to a year to get 100 faves while a piece of outright porn can get over 2000 faves in less than a month?
Seriously. Am I the only one? I'm starting to think I'm ODing on crazy pills over here.

Puppet Stuff...
Posted 13 years agoI need to make a puppet by Sunday. It will be a live-hand puppet like Ernie from Sesame Street (http://bit.ly/wisNgc). It is a girl character. It can't be a rabbit, dog or ferret. What animal should it be?
GO
Edit: I ended up going with panda. She'll be blue and white with green hair.
But now she needs a name!

FWA...
Posted 13 years agoI will be there. First fur con in almost two years. I'm hoping to spend at least 40% of my time in Artist's Alley selling art, so you can find me there. Or at a dance at night. Or maybe wearing my Chuck E. Cheese mascot if I bring it. I'm a black girl with purple hair. I can almost guarantee I'll be the only one, so if you see one it's more than likely me.
Lying about my age
Posted 14 years agoJust now realizing that my profile states that I'm 19 years old when I actually turn 21 tomorrow. I kind of wish there was an automatic setting that changed it for you.
Collective thanks
Posted 14 years agoTo all my recent watchers. I'm too lazy to thank you individualy, haha. While I doubt my smut/weird fetish/fursuit photos-free gallery will get me a shitload of watchers, it is still nice to know people appreciate good clean cartoons around here.
Pondering selling art again
Posted 14 years agoDoes anyone want me to draw them a thing? I want to get back into selling things to gain a bit more notoriety before going back to a con to sell even more things. That and money is always good.
I'll let you pay whatever you want as long as it's at least $5. Badges, portraits, sketches and et cetera. Will pretty much draw anything that isn't porn.

A sale goes on in Jackalope Hollow
Posted 14 years agoHappy Saturday!
To celebrate Small Business Saturday and not Black Friday (which, in my opinion, is just wrong) I'm running a sale in Jackalope Hollow, my Etsy shop. 15% off your total purchase with the coupon code JKLTURKEY2011! This runs from today until 5pm Monday, and I'll likely be adding more items before the sale ends, so be sure to keep an eye out!
You can visit the shop here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/jackalopehollow
And I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I know I did. Hopefully the leftovers won't haunt me too much.

Question...
Posted 14 years agoFor those who have never met me in person before, why do you watch my account? What is it about my art that makes you enjoy it?
teefs
Posted 14 years agoMy dog's teeth are kind of rotting. Like, second-stage peridontal disease rotting. I need $676 to get them fixed but neither I or my parents have that right now. I'd like to get it done sooner rather than later, before he gets some kind of infection. He's not old enough to die of dental infections!
Would anybody be interested in some dumb custom shrinky dink keychains or something? I can totally make those. Like, $5 shipped. If there's interest I'll get on this in two weeks after I take care of some things.
