I've had it go off every now and then in my head, but I was thinking about my fursona (Fritz/Sophia). When I got into the fandom, I understood fursona to be a representation of yourself in some way and originally they are and will have an aspect of my nature within them. But now they have their own backstories and personalities that aren't exactly mine.

I was thinking about making a new fursona which is essentially me (my physical appearance, personality, and history) in anthro form, kinda like how a few other people did their fursonas. Fritz/Sophia would still be my main OCs, but they wouldn't be my actual "fursona" so to say.

I don't know and I'm not entirely committed to it, I want to know what others think about it.

Yeah, ever since I had to cut back on alot of things for me, it ended up cutting contact from stuff I did with friends and family. While I am liking the paycheck, coming home every day feeling like crap and feeling distant from others, I wonder whether it's worth it. Damn I feel like I'm becoming an hermit, regressing back to when I was really a loner back in my early high school years.

Hey all. thankfully now I am employed, with Walmart for a temporary job from now till March and it may lead to a permanent job but I don't know. With that said, I will have a new schedule. I'll be working tomorrow from 8 am - 4 pm CST and then starting Monday through Friday I work 7am - 4 pm.

With that said, it means I don't have much free time like I used to. I also know it means the story requests I took may take longer... wrytergirl and  eloundra I am sorry. I know it's taking longer than it should've and you are right to be annoyed with me if you are. I am working on them, but I keep getting distracted by work and other things (a good number non-vital too). With this, I don't know how this job will effect how much work I can put in them.

I am a big Trekkie, I really am. I love both Star Trek and Star Wars, but I love the former more so and started out on that first. I started out on the original movies before I touched any of the TV shows, so I am more familiar with the film side of the franchise than I was with the TV shows. Therefore, since I am a Trekkie and with the recent news of J.J. Abrams taking over directing duties on Star Wars Episode VIII, a friend of mine asked me my opinion of Star Trek 2009. I know this is divisive opinion amongst the fanbase and even some of my fellow Trekkies hold dogmatic extreme views positive or negative about it.

In general, I did enjoy the film. I did like how they integrated the characters of the original Enterprise crew to the story concept they presented. I liked how the actors took characteristics from the original actors and used it in their performance. I did like the hidden jokes and references that were inserted into the film, even if the writers didn't intend it at all. The atmosphere was cool to me and of course, loved the Nimoy cameo.

Now, stuff I didn't like. The villain was just flat to me, Nero was in the same vein as Shinzon from Star Trek: Nemesis, but without any of the "witty" dialogue if you could call it that. It is annoying that I read later that he had an awesome backstory in the comic Countdown that in my opinion had that been in the film, he would've been great. So therefore, I couldn't get into the big conflict between the Federation and Nero, I was more tense with the struggle between Kirk and Spock, two protagonists (not the antagonist, the person I was supposed to be tense with). That knocked the film down several notches with me. Also, I didn't like the substantial amount of gratuitous action in space and on land and of course, the lens flare. There was some other technical details I didn't like them changing in the film (coughphaserscough), but those are small.

However, here is the controversial part of my opinion of the film overall: This was the kind of film Star Trek needed in a reboot in a modern audience. Yes, it's not the Star Trek I wanted and it's certainly not like the previous Star Trek we had in terms of atmosphere, plot, story, or aethestics, but I believe that if the franchise wanted a successful reboot, this was the film to do it. I see it more like what they did with Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, they put enough Star Trek stuff in there for the fans to come in, but it didn't draw on a substantial amount of canon and history for a newcomer to feel lost or repelled by it.

So no, I am not the opinion that Abrams "ruined" Star Trek, Rick Berman and Brannon Braga did that long ago and started this decline that we saw years ago. Star Trek needed a shot in the arm financially and in enthusiasm. If they sticked so damn hard to previous canon or tried making just another old Star Trek movie, it might've pleased fans, but to be financially stable you have to rake in a general audience to the theaters; to sit there and say "well fuck 'em" is idiotic because you need that capital to have the studio do more in the franchise. These people do not want to be shifting through Memory Alpha to understand what we Trekkies know or go through 10 movies and six LONG TV shows to JUST enjoy the newest installment. You have to make sacrifices in order to get the capital to do awesome stuff in the future like get funding to make more movies and possibly start another TV show and with the big blockbuster trend in Hollywood, you have to shift that way for the result you want. That is smart business sense and I think it will pay off for the franchise as a whole.

Star Trek 2009, I mean I still place The Wrath of Khan, Undiscovered Country, First Contact, and The Voyage Home above it. But is it the end of my beloved Star Trek? Hell no, not even close to it. Honestly to me I wonder whether this is a case of people being so dramatic, hyperbolic, and uncompromising that they don't want a single change to get more fans and money. Like I said, it's not the Star Trek I want, but I think it was a necessary step to reboot the franchise and it did rub away the shit Berman and Braga threw on the franchise in terms of its long term stability.
