Oh, and I'm doing a little writing. My goal is to get 3 stories done over this break. Starting with my commission, then trying to get some olders stories finished. We'll see how that works out.

Okay, so I'm going to repost this journal from a fellow writer because it's also really good information and advice.

On that note, you guys are probably going to see a lot of changes in my gallery as I put these all into effect. I might be deleting old stuff out of my scraps as well just to clear up some space.

1) Post in .txt format.

You might have some nice formatting in your .pdf or .doc files, but .txt files display as part of FA. Do not underestimate how awesome this is. It might seem like a minor detail, but it often makes the difference between a first-time reader skimming through the story or deciding they don't want the hassle of downloading/opening in Word/deleting.

Also, try doing a find-replace on tabs into line breaks. This will make it much easier to read your stories, since FA ignore tabs and turns your story into an all-consuming text-blob!


2) Always have an icon.

The furry fandom (and the internet in general) is a very visual place. Even if you just throw a title over an image from Google, you'll immediately stand out. The default Story icon not only doesn't give the reader much of a feel for the work, it can also imply that you didn't care enough to make a preview. An interesting and pretty preview is a great way to show readers you care about how your work looks.


3) A little BB Code is a good thing.

Don't overdo this one, but you can do some neat formatting with FA's tags. Check it out here: http://forums.furaffinity.net/misc.php?do=bbcode


4) Commission illustrations.

Again, you don't have to go nuts here, but a nice pic from an artist here on FA can certainly help. Be sure to ask them to include a snippet from your story and a link to it in their posting of the pic, so you can draw in more viewers. Artists will almost always say yes, especially if you link back to them in return. :)

Also, you can paste stories into the comment box of picture submissions. And try doing the find-replace trick mentioned in #1 here. It really helps.


5) Comment on other people's work.

Sometimes you have to give before you receive. :) Also, have a nice avatar to make people curious.


6) Organize your stories into series.

The [PREV, FIRST, NEXT] code is your friend. Honestly. Just copy the submission number from the URL and past it into position. If you don't have a next chapter yet, just use - to gray it out. Here's an example of how I use this code: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6773794 (It's at the end of the story.)

In place of FIRST enter the submission code of the first story/pic. In place of NEXT enter the submission code of the next story/pic the follows the submission your are currently on. In place of PREV enter the submission code of the story/pic the directly precedes the submission you are currently on.

For example:
[PREV, FIRST, NEXT] = [-,111111,222222] If this is the first post in a storyline,
[PREV, FIRST, NEXT] = [1111111, 1111111, 333333] For the second.
[PREV, FIRST, NEXT] = [222222, 1111111, -] For the third and newest post.

For stories in the same universe that don't directly tie into the main plot, at least post a link with an explanation.

This will help readers find more of what they already enjoy without scouring your gallery.

Also, consider having themed preview icons for series. Even just some color-coding can help people spot them.

I have several characters that I'd like to get drawn up and I need an artist (or multiple artists) to do the work for me.

In trade I offer a full story commission in my usual style.

I'm not looking for the best artists on FA but anyone who can visualize what I've conceptualized would be great ^.^

Just finished a 200 point parasitology test today for my grad school. I haven't slept in 2 days and I'm running on about a case of pepsi worth of sugar and caffiene. So needless to say my mind it frazzled.

I am however going to try and work on the stories for our 3 winners. I'd like to get at least 1 done cause otherwise nothing will get written for a long time.

I have a small notebook which I originally used to write my stories and I was wondering if anyone had any interest if I were to put it up for auction (like $5 starting or something). It's about 60% writen in with various stories, story ideas, and characters from my very first stories here on FA as well as some commissioned stuff. I have since moved up to a much larger notebook and no longer have a need for this old one.

It's not like an "OMG! Tell all" about all my stories or anything, just a note book I used to jot down all my ideas as they came to me.

So, tell me what you think and if anyone is interested. Who knows, when I fill up my large notebook (which is full of story secrets) I may put that up as well.

Ginger is uncommonly smart for a human. Inquisitive by nature, she is extremely easy to handle and takes directions well. She easily serves as both a milk mare and a domestic house mare, for those who like to bring their humans into their beds.

This little brunette milk mare is the most docile of the bunch. Formerly bait at a human fighting ring, she's easily spooked and very meek. Tammy's a handful though, trying to turn everything into a game, so it's hard to keep her focused on breeding.

This busty blonde mare has more courage and curiosity than any human should. It often gets her into trouble as she goes poking around where she shouldn't. She's a prime breeder; healthy, hearty, and very enthusiastice; perfect for any new breeding stallion.

This is a very interesting trend sweeping through FA at the moment. I have bought one myself from  candykittycat and you'll find it in my gallery. Luckily though, I bought it before they started going for auction...

What I find most interesting about the whole TCBY trend is that they are going for auction more and more often by more and more artists. On the whole, they're just very basic works of art and it's amazing how much they are going for. I certainly don't begrudge any artist for making money, god knows they need it as much as the rest of us. It just disheartens me at how little we, the writers make. I would contend that authors work just as hard, if not harder, than a lot of artists and yet we are seriously unappreciated.

Few people bother to get a commission from a writer and certainly not for the same prices that an artist charges. Hell, my own $3 commissions goes far below any artists work that I've seen and I've only had 1 person purchase one.

But I guess it can't be helped. We just seem to enjoy and value artistic work over the written word and I can't blame anyone for it. It is far simpler to look at a picture than to take an hour and read a story.

For those who don't, here's how it works.

You choose a character from the Men of Tyranith, Women of Alimyr, or Farm Work. You can then match that character up with one of yours and have a fun XXX story. It'll be about 4-6 pages or so and I try to finish them as so as possible.

Okay, so I know I've brought this up before but I want to come back to it.

I've thought about writing novellas and I want your imput.

So what do I mean when I say "novella"? Well, basically, I want to take stories that you've seen on my page and give them more depth. These novella's will be somewhere around 50-60 pages (or however long it takes).

The main reason I want to undertake this project, is that there is so much info and depth that I just don't go into on the stories I post. Take the Snikch and Myke storyline. In chapter one, they meet and become roomates, then in chapter 2 two months have gone by and now they're having sex for the first time. There is a wealth of info that goes between those 2 chapters, but a lot of it wasn't developed until I worked on the storyline more. It wouldn't be all that useful to go back and add chapters to the middle, so I want to write novellas that cover entire swaths of the full storyline.

Most of the novellas I'm planning on writing will involve the UoFC series, but I do plan on working on a few others like the "Fetlocks and Foreplay" and "It's Game Time" stories.

So, again, what will happen is a dramatic increase in the actual story of the storyline. I'm sure all of you have realized that if I don't have ample amounts of sex in each story it barely gets read. That's kind of disheartening to me, cause I want things to be read but I don't it to be boring either, so I try to spice it up which cuts down on the actual story.

Another reason why I want to write these novellas is because I have readers who want me to write longer works. I'm more than happy to do this, and as stated, I want to do this.

So let me give you my ideas on the actual stories:

UoFC Storylines

I will be working on all of the UoFC storylines (including those that aren't yet in existance) except that you'll be seeing a lot of interweaving between the storylines. You'll understand why Snikch and Paul are such good friends, why Snikch hates Tyler, where Myra comes into the picture.

Also, none of these stories will be furry, I'm adapting them back to human only (except for any fantasy based ones obviously). So there will be name changes of both characters and places.

Pleasurable Daydreams

This is an adaptation of the Snikch and Myke storyline. It takes place over the several months from the time Snikch meets Myke until they finally have sex. These are the first 3 chapters of the Snikch and Myke storyline. What makes this special though? Obviously you know what happens. Well, you'll get an indepth look at Snikch and Myke's minds as they're sneaking peaks at each other of the months. You'll also get to read Snikch's obvious difficulties over becoming attracted to another man. You'll learn more about Snikch's past, his involvement with Myra, and get hints to why he hates his family. It's all quite in depth.

A Week in Paradise

This is the first 5 stories about Millie and Johnson when he spends a week in California during the summer. There is a lot more information that I kind of just skimmed over so that I could get an interesting story out to you guys.

Paul and Mara

I haven't yet thought up a title, but this is a very deep storyline. Most of this first novella will take place around Mara's terrible rape incident. You'll get to see how Paul meets her and just how much goes into their relationship

Now this will be quite an endevor and I don't know how this will effect my other writing and posting. I might stop any trades and commissions completely while I do this, I'm not sure.

If I do write these novellas though, it won't be for free. I don't know if there is a place where I can post these and put a price amount on them and people can buy them at will, or if I'll be individually emailing them to each buyer.

The price for these will be $5 though. Anymore than that and I feel like I should be writing an actual novel for you guys.

So, every once in a while I have this morbid curiosity that compels me to type weird and terrible fetishes into the search engine here at FA. I am truly dumbfounded how some people can find some of these fetishes sexually appealing.

Now, I have a very open mind, but there are some things that just shouldn't exist and I'm not sorry to say that. Take for instance these violent ones.

Rape and Castration/Penectomy and hard vore

How does anyone find these sexually arousing? I have written all of 2 stories involving rape and they don't represent the norm for what I've seen. Most rape stories end up with the woman (or man) enjoying it. Mine don't and never will. When I write something like that, I don't want people to go "Oh yeah, that was so hot" as one of my characters is raped. I want them to read the story and become emotional for the characters. I actually find it interesting that the two stories I have written with rape have actually gotten quite high views. That only good note to this is that my readers who comment seem to empathize with the female character, which is exactly the response I was looking for.

As for Castration/Penectomy. I'm even more at a loss for words. I've flitted about, read some stories and took a look at some pics, and I find myself almost physically ill. What's even more chilling are the comments below the submission. I have actually shivered after reading such stories and seen comments like "that was so hot!!!" and "I'd love to eat that cock". I guess vore seems to enter into a lot of castration stories. When I see something like that, I'm flabbergasted. I've actually seen one post by someone who shared similar views as mine and asked why people liked that stuff; the only sensible post I've seen so far. Look, I could write a castration story if I wanted. It wouldn't be that hard and after seeing some of those pictures my "writers mind" instantly started putting together one. But here's the difference. Even if I made it sexual, I wouldn't want anyone to enjoy it. I would write it how such a concept would work in reality to the point where I hope my readers would feel physically sick or even cry. ***Oh, and as a side note, I searched for "spay" and haven't found one story or picture (except for "spay and neuter your _____" pics). It seems that people only want to see the balls removed and person raped***

This also goes for the harder aspects of vore. I don't understand vore, but on the whole I don't have a problem with it. Most of what I see, or have read, mostly involves someone being ingested whole through one orifice or another. This includes the really weird, and sometimes comical; oral, anal, and penile vore. I do have a problem with the truly violent vore though. When one character is literally tearing chunks of flesh (or genital organs) off of another character. Again, this occurs in a high ratio with sex and the responses seem to be sexually aroused comments. What is it about a bloody, gory, violent death by mauling that makes people want to wank? I'm not against vore, as a whole, I've used it very lightly in some early stories and it will pop up in an upcoming story, but the vicious stuff is a complete mystery to me.

Now, I know a lot of people will probably go "Eh, it's a sick fetish but you don't have to read/watch it" and normally I agree with things like that. If there is something I don't want to see, I generally stay away from it but I think that these fetishes are rooted in some kind of underlying psychological problem.

What's worse for me, when I see such images or stories, is my very active mind. When I write a story I "become" every character. I feel their pains, their pleasures, their fears. This isn't just for my characters, but for my commissioners as well. I've had several tell me that they can't believe just how perfectly I write their characters' actions, it's like I'm reading their minds. I literally go so deep into my stories that I've made myself cry as I pull up a difficult part of their past, or cause them pain. The most horrible and hard to write story I've ever done was Part 1 of the Mara/Paul arc in UoFC where Mara is raped. To write that 1 story, I had to make my mind go into both Mara and her rapist so that I could produce the most realistic results possible. I never want to get into that mindset ever again. I nearly put myself into a literal rage as I wrote Paul's part as he killed the rapist.

So, from my perspective, everyone who enjoys that stuff has to have that desire deep inside them. For me, that is a very scary thought and hopefully many of you will think the same.

Finally, for any who would like to comment to this journal, please feel free to do so no matter what your viewpoint is. I have never censored a comment and don't plan to do so, but I will delete any comments that break down into abject name calling and hate speech.
