general update
Posted 2 years agowow, its been a while since i did any form of posting here, but alot has happened in the time since the last post.
Still in Maine, but no longer living with my parents, which is a good thing on many levels. Had a few bombshells drop this year from my parents that have strained that relationship considerably, which makes me sad. Forgiving and moving on from those bombs will take some time, especially since they feel nothing wrong occurred.
Coming up on my 16 year wedding anniversary with my mate this October, and we will be able to celebrate it in Reno at BLFC this year. Even though we are both staff, it will still be a good vacation for us and we will get to see some good friends we don't get to see that often. I am very much looking forward to that trip and if we happen to find a mutual interest to share in the fun, even better ;)
Currently have 2 cats that are the most amazing furbabies ever. We may have more again someday, but for now, 2 is a good number, and Smoreo favors "daddy" while Io is my mamma's boy, always cuddling and wanting uppies. Is it wrong that I would be more devastated if something happened to one of them over my parents?
All in all, it took a couple years, but things are finally starting to settle in for me, feeling more like I am in the right place. This is in part thanks to being able to meet with some of the local furs and go to a couple meets, it really helped nullify that all alone feeling out here. Might opt to host a meetup one of these days, but want some other things to settle into place first.
Might write more in the future, but for now, short, semi sweet will need to do :P

Its BLFC time again!!!!
Posted 6 years agoTweaked some to account for 2019 :)
Days staying:
Tues evening through Monday morning
Staying at:
The GSR of course!
How are you traveling?
Flying of course!
Is this your first time?
Oh my, such a dirty question... oh wait... you meant... right. This will be my 7th BLFC. I've attended every year it has been around, and as of this year have been elevated to Staff status
Who are you rooming with?
My mate Telbasta
Where will you be?
I'll be staffing Reg again, and a couple other planned areas. If you are doing at con reg pickup on Thursday there is a damn good chance you will see me as I will be there all day and for a good portion of friday as well. Beyond that... well.. that is QUITE open at the moment.
How is the best way to find you?
Check registration first, esp if it is Thursday or Friday. Otherwise, I could be just about anywhere. If you have my new area code 207 phone number, text me. If you don't have my number and would like to meet up, Note me here or on telegram(BEFORE THE CON). My new number has already been attached to my telegram profile.
What do you look like?
Short dark blue hair with turquoise highlights/streaks. I will probably be sporting white ears and a white tail most of the convention, and you may see me in the Blue sparkle pup partial I picked up last year.
What is your gender?
100% female :)
How old are you?
Old enough to enjoy the offerings of the resort, young enough to still have fun all night.
Are you mated/in a relationship?
Yup, mated to Telbasta though we both are rather flirty, especially at cons. With the right fur, we may even open up a bit for more.
How tall are you?
*takes out measure stick* mmm, bout 5'7"
Can I talk to you?
I'm always up for meeting new people,. so sure :).
Can I hug and/or snuggle you?
I do love hugs, but if I do not know you, please do not be offended if I say no. I tend to hug as a greeting with those I am close to. Also please please PLEASE make sure you have bathed! Stinky hugs are a NO!!!!
Can I touch your butt?
If I know you, yes, if I've not met you before, you may want to try for a more toned down greeting.
Can I stay with you?
The room is for relaxing and getting away from the crowds, so while you might be able to visit, only a very select few will be able to spend the night.
Are you nice?
Yupyup
Are you cliquey?
Not really, at least, I don't intend to. I'm pretty shy around new people, and will hang out with certain people more often due to just overall being more comfortable around them. Ironically, I tend to be more open and less shy when part of a group.
Are you fursuiting?
Gonna try it this year. I only have a partial, and have not used it much since I picked it up last year, but am eager to get out there in her.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Come up to me and say Hi. At cons I tend to answer to Stargazer or Star.
Stage Performance?
Probably not. Unless I have a bit too much to drink... then all bets are off. All hail liquid courage!
Can I draw in your sketchbook?
Yes please!
Can we hang out?
Sure, just message me and I'll be happy to make arrangements
Can I talk to you?
Of course! Again, I like to meet new people, and catch up with people I haven't seen in forever
Where will you be eating?
Well, I've eaten at the buffet, grande cafe(do NOT do their late menu), and the 2nd street cafe express (which makes some pretty good pizza and is a better late night option)
Can I come to dinner with you?
If we are enjoying a chat and don't want to stop, sure, but I will not pay for your meal. Been burned by that too many times.
Can I buy you breakfast, lunch, or dinner sometime?
Mew? This would be incredibly awesome for someone to do, and if they insist, it would be hard to resist.
Can I bring you snacks/goodies?
Nommage? okay!
Can I ask ya to dance with me during the dances?
Sure! I love to dance :)
Can I buy you drinks?
Yes, Yes, YES!!! :) Bonus points for mudslides of the frozen variety
Do you attend parties?
If I get invited to one, I will go, assuming I don't already have other plans.
Can I take your picture?
I don't mind taking pics for personal use, but please ask before posting publicly, I keep my furry life separated from my everyday life.
May I kidnap you to my room?
Maaaaybe? Depends on what all is happening
Attending any events?
I have NO idea what I'll be attending to be honest. I'm not much of a panel person, but I really love dances and stuff!
Hosting any events?
Not this year. I've run panels in the past, but this year I'm putting more hours into staffing with the convention.
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
Hang out with friends both new and old, get some awesome art and goodies, play some games (table and video), and just plain have fun!

100 watchers!
Posted 7 years agoWow, I hit 100 watchers! Guess this means I need to start posting some new stuff here soon then hmm? No worries, I have a couple projects in the works currently, including the introduction of another character that I hope to have ready here by the end of the month. Thank you all for putting up with me :)
BLFC in less than a week! Meme time
Posted 7 years agoBorrowed from a few years back with a few updates. So here goes BLFC 2018...
Days staying:
LATE Tues evening through Monday morning
Staying at:
The GSR of course!
How are you traveling?
Its a wee bit too far to road trip this year so flying out there.
Is this your first time?
Oh my, such a dirty question... oh wait... you meant... right. This will be my 6th BLFC. I've attended every year it has been around and plan on continuing to do so for the foreseeable future.
Who are you rooming with?
my mate Telbasta
Where will you be?
All over the place. Most likely you will find me in the Registration area as I will be volunteering there again this year. You might also catch me in the dealer's den chatting it up with Arctic K9 Creations or Likeshine, or in the gaming room playing Betrayal @ House on the Hill, or being social in the main area, or at a panel or two. SO much to do!
How is the best way to find you?
If you have my new area code 207 phone number, text me. If you don't have my number and would like to meet up, Note me here or on telegram. My new number has already been attached to my telegram profile.
What do you look like?
Umm, well, hair is going to be changing this weekend, but I will be sporting white ears and tail the whole con.
What is your gender?
100% female :)
How old are you?
Old enough to enjoy the offerings of the resort, young enough to still have fun all night.

BLFC is almost here!!! New badge art needed!
Posted 7 years agoLas I prep for BLFC in a couple weeks, I was looking through my con stuff, and I realized that I am in dire need of a more recent badge for myself. If anyone knows of any artists doing badge commissions for at con pickup I would greatly appreciate the heads up. I am willing to pay for it of course. Thanks in advance for the help!
Digital art help needed
Posted 7 years agoWell, I find myself with quite a bit of free time at moment, and with a happy new computer that can handle all things digital art so the time has come for me to make the transition from paper to digital for my drawing. That being said, I could REALLY use some help getting started. So for my artist friends out there, what are some good, user friendly programs to use? I'm not worried so much about having to pay for it, as I am about the user friendliness of it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Of course this also means that I will start uploading images again.... possibly starting with remakes of some of my favorites in digital format, and I have some ideas for a couple new ones too. We'll see :)

Time to start a new chapter
Posted 8 years agoDamn, has it really been 2 years since my last journal entry? Well, in that case my subject is all the more tailored to this entry. Much has happened in the last couple years, and I find myself at a fresh start. Alas, I am getting ahead of myself. Let me back track a wee bit first.
BLFC is now the main convention I attend each year. It has become my yearly escape from the everyday, and in the last two years I have both hosted panels and volunteered to help with the convention. In fact, last year I signed up for 8, but ended up putting in about 12 hours give or take of volunteer time and I look forward to possibly serving as staff next year. I wholeheartedly support this convention and hope it continues to flourish in the future.
I lost my Santa Fe. I MISS that car/SUV. All because an idiot in an Audi ignored a police siren/lights and rear ended me. There was an imprint of the Audi symbol on my back bumper, and she hit me hard enough to dislodge the spare tire from under the car. Both cars ended up being total losses, oh and to add insult to injury she did not have insurance at the time of the incident. They say you don't realize how good something is until it is gone, well, the usefulness of my Santa Fe was definitely missed in recent weeks. More on that later.
With my husband out of work for over a year, my stress went to a whole new level and it led to me taking a leave of absence from work as I could no longer help him and keep my own stress in check. I went back to work after a few months and some special training to learn some better coping mechanisms. My workplace is a whole other long story in and of itself, but in short I made a decision for my future that changed everything.
Fast forward to about 2 months ago. My parents were coming back out to AZ to get the rest of their stuff that they had left behind when they went back to Maine. This one idea became the catalyst for a major change. After many discussions with my mate, and some research, the decision was made to leave AZ and go back to Maine with my parents. This meant leaving/retiring from my job as the company did not have jobs local to Maine. I was with them for about 12 years, and it was not an easy goodbye.
The move was full of obstacles, the biggest being that the valley was having a record breaking heat spell in the 115+ range, which not only limited the time of day we could load the truck, but it also caused multiple of our packing totes to warp and melt as well. Thanks to my mom's connections though we were able to get help loading the truck and one long road trip later in a Elantra with my mate and our 5 cats (REALLY miss that Santa Fe), we arrived in Maine.
We've been in Maine for about 2 weeks give or take now, and I am slowly getting re-acclimated to the humidity change. There is no A/C at the current residence, but we do have alot of fans, and the breeze at night feels wonderful. The grocery store is taking some getting used to as with a different region comes different brand names and flavors and such. I will say that I am addicted to cinnamon chip muffins and have a hard time not keeping some in the house. I've done some general searches for jobs and have had a few promising postings pop up so I hope to have a job again soon.
Oh my I wasn't intending for this journal to be quite so long, but there ya go. I hope to start posting new art soon as well as I have been sketching in the down time, and have a couple of new characters I need to introduce. Till next time!

my mate Telbasta, and two of our friends that have never been to BLFC before
Who will you be with?
Umm... depends on the time of day and who I happen to catch up with? Very much looking forward to seeing
Lexi_Foxxx
starferalwolfe
XoGoodGirloX
fennixsilvertail
kahluafennec
cosmichusky
likeshine and anyone else I might be forgetting at the immediate moment
Where will you be?
All over the place. You might catch me in the dealer's den chatting it up with Arctic K9 Creations or Likeshine, or in the gaming room playing Betrayal @ House on the Hill, or being social in the main area, or at a panel or two. SO much to do!
How is the best way to find you?
If you have my phone number, text me. If you don't have my number and would like to meet up, Note me here :)
What do you look like?
Umm, well, hair is going to be changing this weekend, but I will be sporting white ears and tail the whole con.
What is your gender?
100% female :)
How old are you?
Old enough to enjoy the offerings of the resort, young enough to still have fun all night.
Are you mated/in a relationship?
Yup, mated to Telbasta though we both are rather flirty, especially at cons
How tall are you?
*takes out measure stick* mmm, bout 5'7"
Can I talk to you?
I'm always up for meeting new people,. so sure :).
Can I hug and/or snuggle you?
I do love hugs, but if I do not know you, please do not be offended if I say no. I tend to hug as a greeting with those I am close to.
Can I touch your butt?
Only with Tel's permission.
Can I stay with you?
We already have 4 people in the room now, so unless you are the talented
JackieJackal, we will have to say no.
Are you nice?
Yupyup
Are you cliquey?
I'm pretty shy around new people, and will hang out with certain people more often due to just overall being more comfortable around them. Ironically, I tend to be more open and less shy when part of a group.
Are you fursuiting?
I WISH!!!! Wasn't able to get my partial done in time, so only ears and tail for me.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Call me by name, usually Star works best and has been my nickname forever.
Stage Performance?
Probably not. Unless my mate talks me into the hypnosis show and I get picked... heaven help me if that happens *grumbles about being easy to hypnotize*
Can I draw in your sketchbook?
Yes please! It is currently blank and I hope to rectify this!
Can we hang out?
Sure, just message me and I'll be happy to make arrangements
Can I talk to you?
Of course! Again, I like to meet new people, and catch up with people I haven't seen in forever
Where will you be eating?
Well, I've eaten at the buffet, cafe, and johnny rockets my last 2 times, so probably much the same, plus I will have nommage in the room so I have more money for other fun things.
Sure! I love to dance, and as long as things don't get too heated it should be okay :)
I had considered hosting a panel, but I will wait for next year on that one
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
Hang out with friends both new and old, get some awesome art and goodies, play some games (table and video), and just plain have fun!
Days staying:
Thursday afternoon/evening through Monday morning
Staying at:
The GSR of course!
How are you traveling?
Vroom vroom, road trip baby!
Is this your first time?

Upcoming birthday quandry
Posted 10 years agoSo my birthday is on Thursday the 29th, and I am fortunate enough to have the day off. As of right now, I have zero plans for this day, and am at a loss as to what I want to do. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm also off today and tomorrow as well :)
My post BLFC report
Posted 11 years agoSo another BLFC has come and gone, and I had just as much, if not more fun this year. The final numbers were announced today and all I can say is WOW... 465 Fursuits, 1442 Attendees, $16,650 for charity. This is only their second year and they more than doubled last year's attendance of 704, and I think the fursuit numbers may have doubled as well(or come darn close to it). The staff did a phenomenal job keeping the peace and there were many many changes this year that came straight from feedback received last year, and it paid off for them!
Highlights(in no particular order):
-Getting to see some of my old fur friends from AZ that I have just not been able to catch up with otherwise.
-Seeing a few familiar faces from out of state that I haven't seen in even longer.
-Participating in, and winning my first live cribbage tournament, due in part to doubleskunking my opponent in the first round ;)
-Helping and getting to hang out with the totally awesome Star and Lexi from Arctic K9 Creations.
-Meeting new furs like Glitch, Rhey, Budi, and Arctic and meeting some of my fave artists in person for the first time like Likeshine and Flinters.
-Having the BEST server ever at the all night Cafe! We love you Cory!!!
-Dancing to some awesome 80's music Friday night and being reminded how much I love to just let loose and dance!
-Getting a Rainbow Brite sprite from Mystic :)
-Flying was a much better plan than driving for just my mate and I this year. Not sure which way we'll go next year, it may in part depend on if we have anyone going with us.
Regrets:
-Not actually getting to bowl this time around, something I plan on remedying next year.
-Missing the closing ceremonies and feedback session, though this was for a good reason, and the info I missed was just released today, so no real big regret here.
Wishes for next year:
-More Bowling(as stated previously)
-Host a panel or two (I was too short on time this year to properly put together a panel)
-Have my full fursuit completed so I can debut it at the convention (I may have a partial by AZFC)
-Have as much fun as this year and then some
-Hit a royal flush on the video poker machine ;)

OMG BLFC is almost here!!!!
Posted 11 years agoI am SOOOOOO excited to be going back to BLFC again this year in Reno. Last year they set a new high for a first year con attendance of 704, and this year they are already at 996 pre-reg!! It is by far one of the most affordable fur cons not just for hotel, but for registration as well, and they have some totally radical swag for their 80's theme this year. Pre-reg even had the option to have their badge done as a floppy disk! They definitely listened to the feedback provided last year and this year looks to be even more awesome than last year!
...and in the grand tradition of con going, here is my BLFC meme :)
Convention Name:
Biggest Little Fur Con
Website:
http://biggestlittlefurcon.org
How are you getting there:
Flying
Hotel you're staying at:
The fur con's hotel, the Grand Sierra Resort
Dates:
Thursday-Monday
Rooming with:
My mate
devonrex
Gender:
Female
How tall are you:
5'7 ish
Are you mated/in a relationship?
Yep, married to
devonrex for almost 9 years now
Fursuit(s):
Wasn't able to get it done in time :( I will probably have ears and tail with me though.
Who you will be with a majority of the time:
I will be with my mate
devonrexof course, and also hanging out and helping
Lexi_Foxxx and
Star_Feralwolfe in the dealer's den, and trying to catch up with some of my AZ fur friends that I haven't seen in forever like
mysticpanther
gaybe_fox
kahluafennec
cosmichusky and anyone else I may be forgetting off the top of my head :)
Are you cliquey:
I try not to be, but I do have a few people that are close to me that I like to hang out with.
Main purpose for attending:
Don't think I can narrow it down to just one reason. I had a blast at the con last year and wanted to go back again. It has a really great vibe to it and the staff is awesome. Out of the conventions I've been to, it's by far my favorite.
Do you have a Dealers Den or Marketplace table:
Not my own, but you can find me at Arctic K9's table from time to time helping
Lexi_Foxxx and
Star_Feralwolfe and possibly helping to sell glowies during the dances
Do you take commissions:
Well, I can always use the practice and will have some of my art stuffs with me, so sure :)
Where you usually eat:
The buffet is pretty damned awesome here and where most meals went down last time. I hope they have those crazy big strawberries again *murr*
Parties:
If I'm not too exhausted, then absolutely!!! I'll be spending the few days before the con acclimating off my early work wake up schedule to get more night time fun in while at the con this year.
Fursuiting:
If ears and tail count, then yes. Otherwise, need to get the suit finished first.
Daily activities:
Attend panels, help out Arctic K9, meet up with old friends, enjoy yummy noms, gamble a bit, go bowling, catnap to stay up later...
Nightly Activities:
Drink, Dance, Party.. sleep really is overrated
What time I usually go to bed and get up:
due to work, I currently go to bed at 7pm, and wake up at 3am... this clearly is not cohesive with con schedules, so I will be shifting the schedule to stay up as late as I want so as not to miss any fun, crash when I turn walking dead, and then nap during slower periods in the day if need be to catch up on missed sleep.
Do you talk out of suit:
duh!
Do you talk in suit:
If I had one ready, yes since I plan on having a moving jaw in my suit.
Rules of engagement out of suit:
I'm pretty open to meeting new people, and hugs are perfectly cool, just please be washed/clean with no BO.
Rules of engagements in suit:
not applicable this year
Can I talk to you:
But of course!
Can I tag along with you:
Sure, but if I'm going to my room, please do not follow unless you were invited.
Can I give you hugs or snuggles?
Yuppers, hugs are a way better greeting than a handshake.
Can I dance with you:
I love to dance so sure, but anything too close will require approval from my mate. Sorry, he gets dibs on that one :)
Can I take pictures with you:
If you want to, sure :)
Can I buy you a drink:
Mew? Free drink? Yes please!
Can I buy you things:
*blinks and head tilts* Not sure what anyone would want to buy for me, but sure, if you really want to.
Best communication medium to reach you:
Text me if you have my number already, otherwise look for me at around the con. The open floor plan makes it pretty easy to spot people.

Vacation!
Posted 12 years agoSo far vacation has been going well, and come with it's fair share of pleasant surprises for my mate and I.
1. On both portions of flight we were sitting on the side of the plane that was just 2 seats so we got to relax a bit more on flight. Oh and Delta even managed to not lose the checked bag, double bonus!! :)
2. We reserved a compact car for the trip, and when we go to pick it up they let us know they have two cars available for us, a red, or a yellow camaro. We picked the Yellow, and yes it has the black stripes like Bumblebee. This car is crazy loaded, and fun to drive, and so far no speeding tickets ;) (pictures will follow later on this one!)
3. Our room was upgraded to one with a whirlpool tub for a nice discount due to them not having any other rooms available for us this week.
4. The temperature has been a very mild 71 degrees or so up here, and a very welcome change from the 100+ down in the valley of the sun. Don't need a jacket as of yet, but it has been really nice wearing jeans and a T-shirt without sweating to death.
Very much looking forward to this relaxation away from work and other things that have been stressing me out lately. I'm hoping the natural surroundings will help give me more inspiration for my artwork, though I'm not going to pressure myself on that front. We are right on the lake, so might have to enjoy more of that first!
Yay for vacations!

Artist block officially broken
Posted 12 years agoSo I've been having some difficulties sleeping lately (yay for a 5am work start), and just when I was finally getting to sleep last night my brain decided that it didn't want sleep. My brain wanted to DRAW! I had 3 sketched out images in about 45 minutes of Starcrystal in various poses. I haven't really drawn anything in 2 years and then it's like *BOOM* the artist in me finally woke back up. I did wish it had better timing, but once I clean up the pieces I made I'll be posting them up, probably mid week since tomorrow is my "friday' with work.
I do have to say it felt really good picking up the pencil and sketch pad again(yeah I know I'm old school) and I'm looking to spending more time with it here soon.

New arts soon!!
Posted 12 years agoThat's right, I've dusted off my pencils and markers, gotten some new sketch pads and some new inspiration so new arts will be posted soon. I still need to post some of the stuff I commissioned at BLFC, and promote some of the really awesome stuff that got done there too! I'm shooting for 5 new pieces to post by friday. At least one will be a reinvention of one of the star mares, the others are still up in the air at the moment. I am totally open to ideas as well :)
to draw, or not to draw...
Posted 12 years agoWell, been thinking alot about drawing again, but I seem to have a massive case of mental block and not quite sure how to fix it. I'm beginning to think that maybe I should play with a different medium for a bit instead, like suiting or sculpture or something... I dunno. I have creativeness trying to break free but it can't seem to tell me what key it needs! Grr... maybe looking through some favorite artists will help inspire me...
Back from BLFC!
Posted 12 years agoHad an awesome time in Reno for this first year con. There was plenty to do both and I am really looking forward to next year, which they are saying will have an 80's theme! *bounces* it ended up being a pretty good size con for first year, with over 700 registered, and over 180 fursuiters! I also got to attend the feedback session with the chairman which was extremely informative, and made me want to be a regular part of this con all the more.
Biggest Little Fur Con this weekend!!!
Posted 12 years agoI cannot even begin to say how excited I am about getting to go to this con! It's been far too long since I have been able to go to a full on con, and while this one won't be anywhere near as big as FC or AC, I still think it will be awesome, and a great way to get back into conventions. BLFC has a cool roaring 20's theme this year, and I'll be taking home some rather sweet swag for doing the highest level of sponsorship(which pre-reg was only $90).
My main regret is that I won't be able to get the fursuit done before the con(even as a partial), but I should be able to put together a new set of ears and tail based off of my main character which does make me happy. Who knows, maybe I will get an idea from one of the panels at the con regarding how to better make my fursuit. I tend to be very hands on/visual learning so sometimes just reading how to do it doesn't help. Though I did find a pretty cool eye tutorial that is kinda realistic, but also fantasy-ish, and would be an awesome fit for my character and looked fairly easy to put together.
I may post up pics or the like once back, depending on what all happens while we are there. I definitely need this vacation on multiple levels and will probably be bouncing off the walls for several days before and after. Yay spazzes! :)

Time to start a fursuit!
Posted 12 years agoWell, with BLFC coming up, I decided to try and hit one of my furry resolutions this year and put together a fursuit for it. I went back and forth a bit due to the limited time schedule, and ultimately i decided to try an create my original Stargazer concept(currently redeveloped as Skyestar). I am hoping the black form will help hide any "first suit" errors I make, plus it was my original introduction into the fandom, so it does seem fitting :)
After looking at the different head constructions, I'm aiming for a balaclava style for now, but gotta find the base first which is proving a lil more difficult now that winter is over. I am hoping to also do a moving jaw (ambitious I know!), but am unsure if I will integrate the LED star JUST yet... depends on how far I get I think. For simplicity I might just make the star "static" since the black starpanthress had a normally white star when it wasn't changing colors anyways.
I'm excited, nervous, bouncy, OMGing over this whole thing and while I do have a nice ref book and some online links, any advice/help/tips would be greatly appreciated. Honestly the head is the part I am most concerned with, and the body and paw work is something I've done previously, though it has been a while.
I will also try and post progress pics as I go along of course :)

Happy After Christmas everyone!
Posted 12 years agoI hope that everyone had a happy and joyous holiday yesterday! Mine was spent rather low key, just me, my mate, and our kitties but was still fun. we were so exhausted from our work week that we re doing our big dinner tonight instead :)
Since we are saving for some big things happening in the next couple months, I was very surprised when one of the gifts from my mate made me nearly cry with joy. He figured out how to integrate my color change star into a fursuit head!!!!! That was one of my biggest fears in creating a fursuit of my main fursona and he obliterated that fear completely! So I may actually be able to get my fursona's fursuit together for May's Biggest Little Fur con after all :) Now I just need to find the right style of white fur, and some way to do the blue hair :)

Sickies update
Posted 12 years agoWell, after fighting a losing battle with this sickness for over a week, I finally went to the doc. Probably a good thing since I was running a 103 degree fever when doc checked it. Got some antibiotics and strong cough syrup, and it seems to be working already, but I think I'll take one more day off to be sure, so I can be better by Christmas. I am so far behind at work from all of this, but I have a plan to get caught up and should be able to get most if not all of it done by month end. I also want to make Christmas cookies damn it, preferably before or on Christmas and need to get better before I can do it.
Really body... you have to get sick now???
Posted 13 years ago*grr* so, because my body decided to catch a cold thursday night, I won't be able to go to the dec fur fest bbq today. It is so frustrating because I really miss seeing some of my furry friends, but I can't risk getting them sick or getting worse myself either. Bah! :(
Holiday hoopla
Posted 13 years agoFor as long as I can remember, I have always had to work on Christmas Day. No big deal, since I usually got paid extra for it, and we always made arrangements with my in-laws (the only semi local family) for another day during the week to celebrate. This year however, My mother in law will not be snow birding for Christmas, and oddly enough, both my mate and I have the day off. My parents are in Maine, and with no children or other relatives near by, this will be the first Christmas in a LONG time... hell ever, where I had no family to spend it with. Okay, I will have my mate, but Christmas for me has always been a time spent with family, and just spending it with my mate feels really weird to me. It could explain why I've been stalling in regards to decorating and getting ready for Christmas. I mean what's the point when you don't have anyone around to share the joy of the holidays, or make cookies with.
Speaking of... I think I may try and make some cookies this week to take with me to the Dec fest this weekend. I wish i could go to the event for the whole time, but since I'll be working 6:30pm-5am that night(yay overnight shifts), I can only go for a couple hours before work. Should still be fun though and I'm looking forward to seeing some of my fur friends that I haven't seen in months as well as meeting the people that are organizing the AZ Fur con later this year.

Long overdue update. The awesome, the sucky, and other stuff
Posted 13 years agoShort version: I took an unscheduled, but very needed break from the fandom.
Longer version: The last year plus was filled with far more roller coaster inspired ups and downs then I care to live on a regular basis and it's only been the last month or two that a semblance of stability has returned.
Alas, during this time I've lost touch with many people I care about in the fandom, in some cases making me feel like i was abandoning some when they may have needed me most, which was NOT my intention ever. I don't know how many will actually read this, but here's the low down on some of the bigger things that happened.
Fandom; As I mentioned this was a big part of it. The drama amongst the local furs, blending with a nagging feeling that some may have been using my kindness, and an overall lack of appreciation for the things I did do for the local group caused me to drop contact with all but a few select people, and be an observer only. During this time, I had someone question my morals and ethics while trying to keep others in the fandom safe from a potentially violent and unstable fur.
Then there was the BBQ's i was hosting. They took a toll on me financially and physically, yet there were others that would complain about things that would happen with other furs at the BBQ I was hosting, but never come to me about their concerns. Then there were the ones that couldn't even give so much as a thank you for the effort and $$$$$$ I would spend on those events. Then there were the ones that bitched about the change in time for the BBQ, yet didn't even bring anything themselves to help. despite being a potluck, people still refused to bring things yet mooch the food and drink anyways. I can normally let things roll, but people who don't appreciate what they DO have, or what people are doing for them annoy the crap out of me. These are just a few of the reasons why I personally stopped hosting these events. Don't get me wrong, there was quite a bit of good that came out of it too, but the negatives started outweighing the positive for me and I knew I could no longer do it.
I'm still an admin on the local fur msg board, but admittedly I haven't been as die hard on it as I used to and just observe more so than participate these days. I haven't really gone to any of the local events but that is more so due to location now(I live over 40 miles from the closest one now). My changing work schedule (yes I know, again) will soon be another factor. I may even brave organizing an event again, but that will have to wait for now.
Work: So I mentioned a schedule change, but believe it or not, I feel it will be for the better. One major downfall is that I will not get to see my mate as much(he works mon-fri 8:00a-5:30p, but he and I have weighed the pros and cons and decided that me taking this role will be far better for us. So, the skinny, if you haven't found out through other sources yet, is that I was promoted at work to Team Lead. It is an overnight schedule again, and fri-monday at that. I'm hoping the slower shift will help me get back into my artwork again, the extra money certainly helps, and I will be able to run my pathfinder rpg still on my days off. I am ecstatic about the new position, and several team members have already told me how happy they are that I got the position, which makes the transition all the easier for me. I start the new schedule the week of Labor day, so i've been spending as much time as I can with my mate till then.
Life/home: So, a few things here. One, I am now a homeowner for a lil over a year, and absolutely LOVE my house. The commute reminds me of my time growing up in NJ, so that doesn't bother me, but I am further away from some of my friends which does limit time together a wee bit. Home ownership has come with it's own fair share of surprises, but overall I am very much preferring it to apartment living. I also have more of a sense of pride in this place and truly feel like it is a home.
Death is something that always happens, its a part of the life cycle but this year it struck twice. the more recent was a couple weeks ago. My mate and I lost the first cat we got together, Willow. She was a very sweet semi feral cat, and it was getting to be her time. She was getting older, and we noticed she wasn't moving as well as she used to, and she ended up having some kind of stroke, then quietly passed in the night. The other death this year was totally unexpected and rocked my world. About 2 months ago, we got a call from my mother in law. While she and her husband were travelling to Portland to see their grand kids, he had a heart attack, and while she was able to bring him back at one point, ultimately he succumbed and passed on. It was totally out of the blue, and while he wasn't in the best overall health, he really hadn't showed any warning signs. Even now I still am in a state of shock, knowing he won't be back down here in the winter to run his poker tourney at their winter home park. I won't go into the details of everything that went down when we all went back to Wisconsin for the funeral, but my mate and I both still find ourselves tearing up sometimes when we think of him.
My family took a bit of a hit of sorts too. My mom had some rather serious knee replacement surgery done, and there were various complications since, but things thankfully seem to be overall stable for her. I don't know what i would do if she was gone. She is the only real family I have left. Our relationship hasn't always been great, but I love my mom dearly. I've been having some odd issues with my health as of late, but nothing too serious as of yet, so that does have me concerned. I'll be meeting with a Doc later this month to air some of my concerns.
On a more positive note, my mate have another reason, besides my promotion, to celebrate. He and I will be celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary this October. Hard to believe how much has happened during that time. We are going back to where it all started to celebrate, fabulous Las Vegas :) Whether we renew vows is not anything that has been decided yet, but we will be hitting up some of the places we did the first time we met there, and when we went back 2 years later to get married :)
Oh!!! another cool happy thing was that we have a couple cool toys for our house. One is that we won this awesome grill for our house thanks to Texas Roadhouse. It's a brinkmann and has like 5 burners, not including the 2 side burners. the other is custom pool table that we had built for us that was inspired by our poker chip wedding favors. The chips are actually the sights on the table, and the table has a black and blue theme to it as well. Might have to add pics of that table here. And yes we've played a few games on it and it is AWESOME!!!!
Also updated my phone a few months back to the Samsung Galaxy note, and i'm STILL trying to figure everything out. I finally got my email notifications working properly *grumble* but overall it's an awesome phone.

My Birthday Weekend-the good, the bad and the ugly...
Posted 14 years agoOverall, I could not asked for a better celebration weekend than the one I got this year for my birthday. It started saturday morning and went all the way thru sunday night and I am still recovering! Over that time though, as the title infers, there was good stuff, bnad stuff, and just plain ugly stuff. Thankfully the good was the most plentiful :)
The good:
I got to spend the whole weekend in one of my fave places: Las Vegas! I have not been there for over a year, and we definitely made up for lost time. I got to see the MGM lions up close (pics to be uploaded later), got an adorable lion cub souvenir plushie, got to go to the Tournament of Kings at the Excalibur for my b-day dinner, got very nommy fudge, got all sorta of freebies for my bday from the various casinos, and even had the video poker machines wishing me a happy bday!*giggle*
The bad:
Well it is Vegas so we did some gambling, and for the first time we didn't come home with more than we went with. It sucked, but overall I still did have fun at the tables, though I tended to do better when my mate wasn't with me. It felt a bit too short, especially since I was on a bit of a winning streak sunday before we headed home, but my mate was out of money, and getting bored, so home we went.
The ugly:
It figures the one weekend I am out of town and unable to watch the forum much that one person manages to piss off damn near the whole board. This person's posts are responsible for the locking of at least 4 topics in 48 hours, and created quite a bit of drama on the board. The other mods, admins and I are working on dealing with the aftermath, and hopefully will get resolved in the next couple days, but damn... I put the person on warning over a week ago fearing something would happen, but never expected it to get this bad. Times like this I hate being a mod, but behavior like that cannot and will not be tolerated by anyone. If I have to be the bad guy, so be it, especially if it means that the rest of the board will run more smoothly for it.
On a more positive note though, when I finally checked in with my facebook(damn am I behind on some of my games), I had a ton of greetings there as well, which really made me smile this morning and helped counterbalance the ugly I found out about this weekend. I truly believe that no matter how bad you think something gets, there is always something or someone that will make the silverlining all the easier to see. :)

P.S. thank you again to everyone that wished me well for my bday, I love you all!!!
