More about convention attendance
Posted a day agoAs was suggested in comments on my earlier post, pass the word around that I'm looking for cons to attend. Not necessarily as a guest or anything that would demand perks (I'll pay my own way and such), but as a useful program participant, content provider, and as possible, dealer/artist space. I'd like to think I still some small interest/draw value to a con.
Future con attendance
Posted a day agoItching to do some cons, but which and where? Ideally the west coast, and even more so something I could get art show/dealer's room/artist's alley, program participation. As for dealer's room, if not tables available, would be happy to coat tail someone else's space for a little bit of my stock/sketches/table slave. I'm trying for Biggest Little Furcon right now, but having trouble registering. Had not dissimilar problems last year, so did at the door.
Brew pub "Slightly Furry"
Posted 2 months agoIts a real thing, a brew pub, mostly ciders, that is furry themed and had art nights and game nights. On Rainer Ave. just a few miles from my place. Also alphabet friendly. Went there for the first time last night and had a blast.
Sad old man
Posted 6 months agoWhile I've always had chronic depression, i've more or less been able to at least sort of push through, but , especially now, have sunken into a kind of hopelessness. Nothing anywhere near danger to myself kind of thing, but simply unwilling to Do anything. Been over a month since I noodled out any worthwhile art, and didn't post it here, why bother? Who cares? Same with most everything else . Still the responsible home owner, because I have to, but only just. None of this is to whine and get some sympathy, just to let everyone know why I've been so inactive.
Which cons in the new year?
Posted 8 months agoWant to get back into the con scene, but largely so out of such that I don't know whats is available or recommended. Interested in mostly west coast/driveable, or wider range for something bigger and out of iffy travel season. Further, to make life easier, wondering about piggy-backing with anotehr dealer ratehr than the ahssel of scrambling for space, as I'd only have a short list of back stock to peddle.
If I die...
Posted 9 months agoNow that I'm getting really old, 69, mortality is becoming more and more a thing. And not just just hearing about Richard Bartrop, which was an unpleasant surprise. Today I got doxed and accused of being a commie nazi fag and pedo. The clown who did it is in Italy, but it only take one self-righteous yahoo to deal with my eveilwicked ways. And all I had to worry about before was the nightmare world to come with you know who.
Survived BLFC
Posted 10 months agoIt ended up okay. The drive down to Reno wasn't bad, just 14 hours, though the last bit up the pass at night was not fun. The hotel was dazzling, being a huge casino resort kind of place. As I didn't have dealers room or art show space, I improvised a little show and tell outside the art show, not selling anything there, but had sketch books and sample art to chat up anyone who noticed. Wasn't any programming I was interested in/found the time to attend, though in general, the bulk of the programming was focused on aspects of furries being furries. The dealers room was expansive, with a mix of stuff, art, trinkets, suit related and a few books, but no comics, new or old. The art show was a bit sparse, both for total content as well as the level of talent displayed, especially compared to what was showing in the dealers room. I guess having things like program books isn't a thing nowadays(??) though there was, at least, a pocket program listing all the events and a well-needed map. ( a previous con I did earlier in the year only had an on-line version of anything) I'm getting wiggly about doing more cons, as well as motivated to do more content. Will look into getting some kind of on-line store going.
Going to try BLFC after all
Posted 11 months agoTalked to the hotel and they think the con is happening, so I'm taking the gamble. See you all there (?)
More problems with BLFC
Posted 11 months agoIt seems that there is some kind of bug with emailing BLFC. Been trying for a couple weeks and only Wednesday did I get a single auto confirm that one of my emails reached the con, but still didn't get an actual answer. If I can't get any answer by Friday, I'm going to assume that things are too cocked up and I simply can't risk the investment of the trip.
Anyone have a contact with BLFC?
Posted 11 months agoI've not been able to communicate with anyone at BLFC, doubly bad as I glitched making my password for registration and the new password function isn't happening either. Anyone know any of the concom who I can talk to about any of this?
BLFC?
Posted 12 months agoThe up coming fur con in Reno, yes? No? whatever? Might go but don't know anything about it.
Still can't see images
Posted a year agoA while back, all I could get were little broken image icons on all the FA content. Still haven't gotten it figured out, and is why I have had minimal activity here. I'm on a Mac, with comcast, using chrome, if any of those are a factor. I can still get here via firefox, but I don't normally use that for reasons. Any suggestions?
Scott Ruggles RIP
Posted a year agoOver on Face Book there is traffic about Scott passing last week. Not a lot of details yet. I'd known him since, like the '80s(?) , but with my general withdrawal from a lot of fannish activity since 2005, saw or heard much less about him.
Furlandia
Posted a year agoI'll be going, but as it fairly last minute, will be little more just an attendee . No table or art space. Just slouching around.
Frulandia contact?
Posted a year agoWhen I was first contacted about the now aborted Furry Weekend Portland, I asked around and found out about Furlandia and though there was no problem in hitting both, though I dragged my feet to try and contact them. Now, I sent emails about dealers room and panel participation and have not yet heard back. Any thoughts or suggestions? And in the meantime Furry Weekend has folded.
No images
Posted a year agoStill getting a bad image icon for all the content . At this point, is it a setting problem at my end?
Furry Weekend Portland ??
Posted a year agoAnyone know anything about Furry Weekend Portland July 19-21?? I've been invited to GoH.
new gun update.
Posted 2 years agoFound out that my gun might be chambered for .50 Alaskan, a wildcat heavy bear round, and pretty much the same ballistics as the 12.7 x 55, as well as being nearly the same dimensions. Would make more sense for a hunting rifle.
New gun stuff
Posted 2 years agoI just got a sporterized Mosin Nagant, thinking it might have been rebarreled for a vintage .50 calibre cartridge, maybe 50-90 Shilo or some such. The sporterization was neatly done, shiney new barrel, polished action that made the otherwise meh bolt cycle nice and smooth. However, it now seems like the gun may have been rechambered for 12.7 x 55, a ferocious Russian assault weapon round, intended as a heavy sub-sonic armor-piercing urban warfare combat load. And it would make for a particularly intense very big game gun, which is what I'd guess this gun was intended for.
Albedo nr 2 available
Posted 3 years agoA friend had a batch of issues she got way back when, including several copies of the infamous nr 2, the first appearance of Usagi Yojimbo. They are all in pretty good shape, so stupid collector prices, but I want the word to get out in case anyone here might be keen on one.
My first death threat
Posted 3 years agoI've finally made the big time. Getting death threats for creating furry fandom and making all the kids gay.
Albedo sales
Posted 3 years agoHave been digging through the back stock mess in the garage and have most of the various issues of Albedo available. Most at cover price or close to it. Also have a few copies of Critters and the Fantagraphics Usagi Yojimbo. And a crap ton of old Fusion and Xanadu.
Survived Westercon
Posted 3 years agoTonopah Nevada is a little former silver mining town half way between Reno and Vegas, about 6200 feet above sea level. It is also just up the hill and aways from the Tonopah proving grounds, home to bombs and rockets and stuff since at least WWII. And the site of Westercon. This year it was tiny, not even 200 bodies showed up. Not great for sales, but gave me plenty of time to chat up the occasional fan. Nice old hotels too. The drive in was largely uneventful, except for the crickets. Big crickets, like 2 inch/50mm long buggers, millions and maybe billions for several mile stretches of the highway. But getting to Tonopah was only half the trip, as I was also taking my Nephew to the Rainbow Gathering in Colorado. Which took as long to get to as it was to get from Seattle to Tonopah. Argh. But I survived, though each leg was about 16 hours of driving, mostly on little two lane state roads. Sales for the con were not worth noting. Mostly old back stock from decades past. After the last few years, doing/going anything was better than nothing, and it was nice to see more of the countryside and meet a few new people.
Westercon
Posted 3 years agoOff to Tonopah tomorrow, road tripping to Westercon. With a little side trip to Colorado to drop off my Nephew at the Rainbow Gathering. I like to drive.
interest in old work?
Posted 3 years agoA question brought up by a viewer about why don't I post more of my old never seen work. My reaction for not doing so was, in no small part, the old fart resting on his old laurels/faded glory kind of thing. And I have gotten a few snipes in the past about just that. But, I'd like to know, would there be interest in diving deep into the sketchbooks and such for "unpublished" work? I wouldn't post EVERYTHING, as that would include thousands of pages of doodles or practice sketches of dubious view-ability, as well as some levels of embarrassment. So, any thoughts?
