What was your favorite food as a kid?
Lamingtons were a definite favourite; even my cat used to love the coconut shavings when she was a kitten.
What was the first food you learned how to cook from a package?
Ravioli, unless those 2 minute packets of instant noodles count =/
What was the first food you learned how to cook from scratch?
I made my first omelette when I was four years old. For some strange reason I put apple in it though. Tasted surprisingly good, actually.
Did my first rib-eye steak when I was about 13.
How did you discover that you had a "passion" for cooking?
"Passion" is such a strong word... I tend to think of it more as a "hobby" or general interest. With all the delicious tasting things on the planet, curiousity got the better of me and I wanted to learn how they made my favourite foods taste so good.
What do you remember about cooking and food from your childhood?
Trying to make french toast for my then-current girlfriend and her mother, and setting the smoke alarm off at five in the morning... derp.
What are your favorite foods?
I quite like Italian, specifically pizza and lasanga. I also like Waldorf salad and Mexican. Favouite snacks include croissants, stroopwaffels, green olives and muffins.
What foods do you dislike?
I refuse to eat indian curry, or anything that's exceedingly spicy.
What food is a guilty pleasure for you?
Has been and always will be lasanga. Lamb comes in at a close second.
Do you have any food allergies?
Apparently I have a slight sensitivity to pepper, but then again I hate most spicy foods so I'm going to say no.
Are you omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, etc? Why?
Leaning towards carnivore; I'm a meat and dairy lover. I will eat lettuce and capsicum though.
Do you have any other culinary restrictions?

Have you had any official schooling in culinary arts? If not, do you intend to go?
Nope, I'm not that serious about cooking. I just want my food to taste edible, really.

I'm more of a musician and artist, food doesn't seem to find its' way in there.

I prefer to use smaller, serrated knives actually. Anything about the size of an average fishing knife.

Peruvian style chicken. That stuff is delicious.

There's a Japanese resturaunt in canberra somewhere called Wagamama (not to be confused with the Italian place people have mentioned to me). They do excellent noodle soup, and their negima yakitori (chicken with leek sauce) is great as well.
Do you like TV chefs? Who's your favorite personality/show?
Ever since watching Master Chef, I haven't been able to take many of them seriously. I like Jamie Oliver, but he uses so much olive oil in every single thing he makes. It's like, Jamie Oliveoil. Srs.
What advice would you give to someone who's just starting out learning how to cook?
Make sure you get your serving proportions right, and don't overeat!

Sorry I'm taking so long with these requests/trades as well, was dragged off to my grandparents' for the weekend and only just got back today. Not sure what school work I have to worry about just yet - but if I can't tell these parents of mine that I need to access the loungeroom computer, I'll be trudging my way in with a pitchfork making sure I get this overdue art done for you guys.

Posted 14 years agoNow don't get me wrong, I couldn't care less if people copy my fursona a little (provided they credit or link me), peoples' characters are their own and idgaf what you do in terms of their design. But IRL it's a different story, which is kindof annoying me.
You see, last year I dyed my hair to match Ayla's - the razor-cut black with blue fringe. Now I know this isn't really the most "original" design ever, and a crapload of people have done emo fringes, but I find it strange to note that there's a number of people dying their hair with similar colours.
My roller derby friend, who previously had red and blue hair, had to dye her fringe blue for a wedding party they were having. When she decided to keep it, I was fine with that - we're bros after all. Not longer after though, the red-streaked girl in my photography class redyed them seafoam. I was a little irked, but kept my mouth shut.
But now it's getting weird. The derbyfriend's daughter did it as well, and I passed a guy in the hallway today who nearly blinded me with a neon blue front fringe. He even had the shaggy emo look I wanted, spot on replica of the hairstyle I've been trying so hard to get for the past six months.
None of these people had hair like this, until I had gone and done it myself.
Like I said, I'm normally not one to get annoyed at these kind of things, but really? I'm not trying to be a trendsetter, I'm just trying to bea flying caracal with lightning powers myself, and it's really starting to get on my nerves. Is there no individuality in this world anymore? Seriously.

Everything about Aya's visual appearance is based off me, right down to the ear notch - it represents the tiny scar on my lower left jaw. c:

Her wardrobe is basically everything I want that's out of my price range. She's a little more party-oriented than my daggy skate look, but you get the idea.

She started off as a pretty normal raichu, save for a steel tail. She was mostly just an alias to cover up my real name, but after a few years she began to develop multiple backstories and went through at least five different character designs. This also included a year where I scrapped her completely to replace her with a blue fox fursona, before I brought her back as the caracal you see today.

Intellectual Disfunction
Posted 14 years agoI'm thinking of starting up a fortnightly webcomic, hosted either on here or tumblr. The title will most likeley be Intellectual Disfunction, as inspired from a joke by Straitis.
There won't be much to the plot, mainly just little skits centered around various funny events in my life.Unfortunately I'll be going back to school on Tuesday, so most of the first chapters will probably contain my thoughts surrounding that.
As for Kai's partial fursuit: I'm trying to find a good camping shop near here where I can get a balaclava. By the time I'm done with school and saved up my student allowance, I'll try and find a way to get to a con or open up commissions. Probably going to be a while off, though.

But yes, does anyone feel like recommending some Gabber, DnB or Hard Trance to me? I'm talking along the lines of The Prodigy, Pendulum and Vibe Tribe, but feel free to surprise me with some other cool stuff - I also listen to a crapload of ska and indie rock. Further influences can be found on this journal.
So hit me up with as many youtube links as possible!

Posted 14 years agoThis may be somewhat of a far-fetched theory, but it came up this morning while discussing genetics and psychology.
Apparently, or so I've been told, scientists have been able to put two test tubes with genetic information in them, sealed shut, next to each other overnight in a lab. Without any physical contact, they exchanged genetic information.
So that makes me think: would a person, in their early childhood, share this passing of genetic material with a household pet? And could this be one of the psychological - or even genetic - reasons as to why therians or furries exist?
Putting cultural influences aside (Disney movies, sports teams etc), could it be that the child inherited some of the DNA or mental thinking of their pet dog, and therefore be "less/more than human" in a literal sense? Or does it come from watching the dog's behaviour during childhood and adopting those traits through the learning environment?
Also, do furries with pets feel "more furry" than those without a pet?
It'd be interesting to hear other people's thoughts, if I'm not being too confusing or philosophical...

Decisions
Posted 14 years agoI'm back from my hiatus! However, things appear to be taking a turn for the worst as far as mistakes have gone and it's slowly dawning on me that attempting to drop out of school was probably one of the dumbest things I've done all year.
Part of me knows that I should be pursuing what makes me happy, and putting myself first before anything, but whatever I decide to do will come with a price. Either I temporarily put my happiness aside to finish school, or I flunk it and lose two of my friends. It seems that education comes first no matter what, as I also have to follow the law and be working/studying until the age of 17.
My optimism is gradually decreasing with each day, knowing that I only have so long before I can finalize what I want to do with the next six months of my life. My time in hospital has also made me aware of what this is doing to my physical health as well. I'm aware that no matter what I decide to do, I need to change my attitude and I'm still struggling with how to do that.
...Eh. So this is somewhat of a rant, but I'm not really trying to seek any attention from anyone. I've given up trying to get sympathy, so all I can ask for is encouragement while I try to work out my ambitions.

Just thought I'd let you guys all know, if I haven't been on msn lately I've been in hospital for two nights with a kidney infection. I've just gotten out this morning, they took me off the drip machine and started giving me antibiotics through pills now. Everything seems to be pretty normal again, no internal damage or kidney stones as far as the ultrasound tells us. But yeah, hospital food really does taste as bad as I thought it would...

NOTICE TO WATCHERS - HIATUS
Posted 14 years agoI'll be taking a week off from FA. Multiple reasons, but the biggest one being I need to toughen up and take some time to gather my thoughts, especially when it comes to my own personal fears/depression/etc.
I'm not leaving forever or anything, I will be doing requests when I get back, but the fact I need to find education and strengthen my offline social life has taken its toll. I'll be making my updates on FA less frequent and will probably be commenting/lurking less for the next month or so.

Ehhh... although I still have other distance ed options available, there's no way I can get into them without having to either fill out more forms, or get a psychologist to believe I have School Phobia/something similar. So it looks like I'll just have to keep chasing this up.
Website building has been lazier than ever, though I did manage to email off a design concept to my commissioner and hopefully it shouldn't be too hard to code. However, I feel a little dead in all my art lately so any graphic design I'm doing feels very bland and lifeless. If I don't get my artistic streak back I fear it could take a turn for the worst. As for the fursuit... I think I need to start over.
Also, my girlfriend decided it would be better of as "friends", so that's also put me under the weather. I'm thinking of trying to socialise outside the internet and meet more local furries to hang out with, mainly just to take my mind off these mixed emotions and try to get myself a lifestyle again. Avatar Movie Parody: Anyone Interested?

saltwaterserval and I were watching Ponies: The Anthology a while ago, and I was impressed with the teamwork that fellow bronies were able to put towards a half-hour parody of MLP: Friendship Is Magic.

So I've been lacking in my video and media production lately, and had the idea of making an abridged parody of James Cameron's Avatar. However, we'd need more than just my mic, and it'd be pretty cool if we got furaffinity together as a community to make this possible. Anyone with voice acting skills and/or some clever furry jokes, feel free to comment on this journal or note me regarding the project.

I need to stop feeling like such an isolated lurker and start trying to make some actual friends. You guys are too awesome to just faveandrun without commenting, and I want to find more buddies!
I guess what I'm asking here isn't "be my friend /wrist", but more along the lines of "how do I meet new people/furries?". I look like a friendly person, and love talking to you all when I can be bothered to comment/fave something, but actually trying to form new friendships? Hella awkward.
So help me out here a little guys. Any tips on how not to be a complete socially awkward penguin?

Fursuit Update #3
Posted 14 years agoI've made a start on the base. I feel stupid using masking tape to bring it together, and one cheek looks slightly rounder than the other, but I'm hoping that foam will help hide that. Also, the vision will be pretty bad but I'll be able to breathe out the mouth and hopefully make this head look somewhat reasonable.
Will upload pics of the head once it's foamed, but for now it doesn't look like anything special.
