Almost There!
Posted 13 years agoHeya,
I've almost reached my monthly goal. Usually this money is put towards bills/food if money is running tight towards the end of my partner's pay month. It also makes me feel a bit better knowing I'm earning at least something each month. It's only $100 each month I aim for and it can be found in the headers of my journals.
So, anyway... once I hit my target (and once the commissions are completed), I will do a freebie stream or two for all you lovely folks. In the meantime, I'm open for commissions. Will draw practically anything. Just ask if you're uncertain and I'll let you know.

Art for Books? Yay or Nay?
Posted 13 years agoHeyas,
So... as not many people know here, I have a considerably long book list. By this, I mean, for just one of the three sections, it's 395 books long (I currently own 83 out of that many books). None of them are particularly expensive; heck, very few of them are over $15.
What I was wondering was, if I made a wish list on somewhere like Bookdepository.co.uk (which accepts paypal and has free shipping), would anyone be interested in trading books for art? For every book, I'd do a full coloured commission for whoever buys it for me.
I dunno, just thought.
General Update: I have new lenses in my glasses now, so I can see again, though I have been busy doing horse stuff (I'm getting riding lessons on a regular basis and have joined the local western riding club). Art wise, a lot of my focus has been on starting my new business (making teaching resources, as well as customised ones) and commissions.

Small Animals
Posted 13 years agoHeyas,
For some reason, my kittens have decided to bring all their catches (either dead or alive, doesn't seem to matter) to me. So far in the last couple of days, I've been brought, several dead mice, one dead bird, one live frog, one live bird (which I managed to rescue and set free) and a couple of living mice. So far, of the living mice, the kittens have managed to kill them and promptly eat them, except for one.
There is one living mouse somewhere in my house. I suspect it is somewhere in the dining room as that's where Pepsi seems to be most interested. So, all I can here are little kitten growls coming from the dining room/living area and the odd hiss. Makes me hope they catch it soon. I'm not afraid of mice, but I'm not particularily amused at having a live one running free inside.
On a random, unrelated note, we still have no insulation or curtains or a fire place, but the insulation guys are meant to be coming some point fairly soon and they'll also be putting in the fireplace. So, while we've been waiting, we're still using a little gas heater. We also pulled out a tree-shrub thing. Was fun. I like demolishing stuff XD
~Sunktokeca
EDIT: Maggie caught the mouse. It's, thankfully, dead now.

It's Definately getting colder/random updates
Posted 13 years agoHeyas,
I'm sorry if art seems a bit stop-start. It's heading into winter here and we are definitely starting to feel the cold. Our house has no insulation, no real curtains, no carpet and we only have a little gas heater to heat our home. It's not fun and so I'm kinda only working when the office is warm enough ^-^
Since we're using a gas heater fairly regularly now in order to replace heat, we are planning on getting a second gas bottle. Yay! But that won't be happening until next week as we can't afford it just now.
I'll be posting a journal for commissions in the next couple of days (though I'm still open for them ^-^) to try and get together some money for Raknar's birthday on the 2nd of June.
How is everyone?

Art Lessons To Start Next Week
Posted 13 years agoHeyas,
So I mentioned in this journal that I was planning on giving art lessons to people who wanted then. I've fleshed out the details and decided that I would start giving lessons this coming Monday/Sunday. I will only be giving a small out of lessons each week, unless there happens to be a ton of interest.
I can cover anything you want in your lesson(s). Could be anything from basic anatomy to colouring to hands and feet to faces to line art. Whatever you would like me to cover.
Prices:
$10 - One 1 hour lesson
$15 - One 1.5 hour lesson
$30 - One 1 hour lesson per week for four weeks.
$45 - One 1.5 hour lesson per week for four weeks.
With the above deals, you will be able to ask for redline help at any point and I will be giving you some homework to help reinforce the weekly lesson.
Comment below if you would like a lesson and I shall note you and we can work out the details.

Art Direction
Posted 13 years agoHeyas,
So.. This is going to be a journal on my thoughts of the direction I want my art to go into and some of my goals. It may be a bit rambly, sorry. I may end up deleting this journal at some point. If anyone gets through it all, I'm happy to hear opinions and thoughts.
Lately in the last couple of months (perhaps slightly longer) I have been considering which direction I want my art to go and where I want to be as an artist. I am very, very fortunate that I have an understanding fiancee, who is also willing to support my endeavors in this very competitive industry. I am also very grateful to all the commissioners I have had so far and to those who will commission me in the future. It is a tough industry to break into and I am taking baby steps towards being a freelance illustration artist and freelance 2D animator.
In my considerations, I thought about doing illustration work for book covers, in particular children's books (because yes, I can adapt to a very children friendly style, though I hardly ever post that here) and fantasy books. However, to do this, I know I have to get better and as I always try to do, I am working on bringing my skills up to scratch so that I can make more of an impression. I have always been a lover of fantasy, any fantasy (though not so much horror, not a big horror fan in general), though in particular I have always loved the world of high fantasy. Some of you may have noticed this, I'm not entirely sure. Heck, the first thing I taught myself to draw were dragons and I'm always making up worlds (this is mainly confined to my writing).
Skill wise, I want to head towards a more realistic detail type style. I have long way to go before I am going to get there, but I am willing to take the time and put in the hours and the effort into becoming a better artist, skill wise. This is something that I have been wanting to do for some time now, but I lacked both the time and the basic fundamentals to do so. However, now that I have the time (so much time O_O) and have a better grasp on the basics, I feel that I should be able to practice more into heading in this direction. I still want to keep my line style coloured images as well, just have something more... detailed?... as well.
I am quite nervous about posting this journal. It's not often that I post journals that dive into my thoughts like this. It's not an easy thing for me to do and I apologise if it doesn't make sense.

Kitten Worries
Posted 13 years agoI feeling a bit worried about one of my kittens, Maggie. We went away day before last to buy some new furniture and were gone over night. While this is not normally an issue as the kittens are generally fine by themselves over night now (although very clingy when we get home), I noticed yesterday afternoon while I was flopped out on the couch that Maggie's bottom lip is a bit droopy on her right side.
At first we just assumed that she had tried to eat a bee or a wasp and it had stung her, since being the little spazz butts that both kittens are, they enjoy eating bugs (and I have had to take a couple bees and a wasp off both of the kittens at one stage or another). However, when I was sitting on the couch watching Sponge Bob, Maggie was relaxing with me and let me have a better look at her face and in particularily the right side of her mouth. I saw a dark patch of red, assuming it was blood as it was too red for her pink gums, and noticed that one of her bottom teeth is now sticking outwards, not normal.
She's still eating and drinking alright and playing like she normally would, though I haven't seen her rough and tumble with Pepsi and they usually do that at least once a day, so I'm not too worried that it's causing her much discomfort, though I am worried about her. Both kittens go into the vet on Wednesday (it's Monday today and a public holiday to boot) to get neutered, so I'll probably ask the vet to have a proper look at it then. Unless it gets worse, then I'll have to call my mother-in-law to take me to the vet to get her checked out.
Just worried and not really sure where to express my concerns and sorry for rambling. Just worried about it. It looks clean from the brief look I had earlier.

Dentist Update
Posted 13 years agoHeyas,
So, I ended up just going to the dentist yesterday and getting my wisdom tooth pulled. I didn't freak out as badly as my last one, but it really had to come out. In edition to dying, I had an abscess under the roots of which, which was what was causing me so much pain. However, with the tooth gone, the abscess has been slowly draining away and dissolving, so I don't need antibiotics, just some kick ass strong painkillers.
I'm pretty wiped out though, had a lot of traveling done in the last couple of days (i go to a dentist 2 hours away because I'm very peculiar about my dentists and he's the only one I trust to do work on my teeth).
Thank you to everyone who commissioned me to help. It's very much appreciated! Even though I didn't reach my goal, what I did have paid for the majority of the extraction + one x-ray to see what was happening. Still, thank you so much.
Hope everyone is doing well.

Emergency Dentist Commissions (OPEN)
Posted 13 years agoHeyas,
For the past 3 - 4 weeks my remaining wisdom tooth has been giving me absolute grief. In addition to it dying, it's impacting on the tooth next to it and causing that tooth to be pushed outwards. I've known for about six months that my remaining wisdom (it's my upper right one) has been needing to come out, but because I haven't been able to afford it and it hasn't been giving me any problems until now, I haven't been too worried about it.
However, it's getting to the point where I can't put any pressure at all on that side of my mouth without shooting pains through my jaw and combined with my inability to see properly (need new glasses, cannot afford just yet), I've been getting some terrible headaches and a few migraines (apposed to my usual once every few months migraines). So, I'm going to have to get removed sooner, rather than later.
To cushion the dent the bill is going to make on my partner's pay check, I want to get as close to $200 as possible. This should cover the majority of the bill. I've already saved $50, so I only need $150 more.
So, to do this I am going to open emergency Pay What You Want Commissions. I will only be opening 3 spots so I don't get overwhelmed, when I have finished them, I will open more and so forth until I have reached my goal. They can be either naughty or clean To get a spot, comment below with your refs, what you would like, how much you're willing to pay and I will give you my paypal address.
TL;DR: In serious amounts of pain from impacting tooth. Opening PWYW Commissions to raise money for the dentist.

Would Anyone Be Interested in Art Lessons?
Posted 13 years agoHeyas,
I'm more than a little nervous in posting this idea, as I have no clue as to the amount of interest I'm going to receive or even the type of reaction. It's an idea that I have been thinking about for a little while and recently fleshing it out in more detail (and running a trial with
bec449 ^-^), but...
I was wondering how many people would be interested in/want art lessons from me? They would probably be around $10 for an hour lesson or $15 for an hour and a half, for a one on one lesson or even some kind of deal for several lessons from me (though probably only one lesson a week depending on time and interest). I would be covering basic construction, give red-line help, anything you really need/want help with. They could even be a one off lesson where if you wanted I can teach you how I do my line work.
Thoughts and opinions guys and gals?

Curious to Know...
Posted 13 years agoheyas,
Lately I've been doubting that my commission prices are fair/at a sellable price. I'm terrible at trying to place a figure on my own art, usually it'll be less than what it's worth. But depending on the majority of the answers, I may change my prices at the end of the month. So I was wondering what you guys and gals think my artwork is actually worth?
My current prices are here if anyone's wondering: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3155748/

Storms
Posted 13 years agoHeyas,
Just in case I end up disappearing for a few days, there's a massive storm hitting us at the moment. There's no thunder and lightening (though there may have been some last night when I was asleep), but there is gale force winds, almost cyclone strength at times. We're alright, but we have had a power cut and quite a few power surges, so I just thought to warn you guys if you don't see me about in the next few days, that'll be why. It's pretty awesome stuff though to watch. A few trees have been knocked down and one's broken a fence (can't see the break, but know it's happened because cattle are in the wrong paddock). Hope everyone is alright.

Just in case I end up disappearing for a few days, there's a massive storm hitting us at the moment. I have a question...
Posted 14 years agoHeyas,
Recently the idea was put to me that I should do ACEOs. They would mostly likely be painted (yes, i can paint, i just don't do it often because my eyesight isn't the best), although I could do small digital paintings and sell a very limited number of prints.
So.. my question is this, if I did a small set (mostly likely of dragons) would any one be interested in buying them? They wouldn't be very expensive either.
