Back from Vacation! Yay!
Posted 9 years agoYup! I took a whole 19 days off - probably a record for me :3
My Hubby and I went to China to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. We started our travels in Beijing, then took a high speed train to Xian. After Xian we flew to Guilin, Chengdu and ended our trip in Shanghai. There is so much to cover that I don't know if a journal would really cover it.... if people are interested I can write up a larger trip report with pictures and stuff.
Some highlights of the trip were the Great wall, Terracotta warriors, Terraced rice fields, Tea farm, Face changing and circus performance, and PANDAS!
Crossing the street is terrifying and I may have shaved a few years off my life from the air pollution (in and outdoors). China is trying to stop smoking indoors, but lots blatantly ignore signs and smoke anyway - even our "non-smoking" hotel rooms smelt like they had years of cigarette smoke absorbed in the walls and carpet, but the country is full of rich history. Censorship is still common: you cannot access Google or twitter (not even FA, since the recapcha function on login is google based!), and occasionally the international channels on the TV shut off if the Chinese government decided it didn't want it's people to see the content. You don't realize how much you use google until you don't have it at your disposal!
I've grown to appreciate squat toilets and their trains and subways are easy to ride even if you don't speak a lick of Mandarin. BTW I can only say like 5 things so I was completely at the mercy of communication via charades, pointing and smiling XD
My hubby was quite the celebrity.... at 6'6" with facial hair he was gawked at wherever we went. He was asked on 20 separate occasions for a photo (and who knows how many people just took one anyway without permission).
But as much fun as I had, I'm glad to be home :3 It's nice to sleep in my own bed and eat normal foods.... and I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss my studio.... just a little bit ^_^
So, I guess it's back to work!

Komickrazi Studios closed for October - OMG vacation!
Posted 9 years agoHard to believe, but YES! I'm going on vacation. Not for a con weekend, but a legitimate away-from-work holiday :O
My Hubby and I have been married for a wonderful 10 years! We're taking an anniversary holiday to celebrate. We will be visiting China for 3 weeks in October, so as you can imagine I will be away from my studio.
I will be bringing my laptop with me and I will have access to Wifi in all the hotels I am staying at.... but obviously, I will be not checking my computer with any regularity. Anything of an urgent nature, I will answer as quickly as I am able. Any other emails; you shall be informed of my vacation and I will respond to them upon my return.
What does this mean to my current customers? Nothing! I have accounted my vacation in my queue schedule and there are no worries about missed deadlines.
New customers? I will not be quoting prices while I am away. I will respond to all quote request inquiries upon my return.

FAQs:
-Will these be realistic or toony?

---No. These designs were created by Nibolette and approved in advance. I will not allow changes to the designs. If you do not like how they look, you are welcome to privately commission me to make a Dutch Angel Dragon suit of your own with your own colors and designs.
-What if one of the Angel Dragons is not chosen?
---I no one claims one of the 4 suits, I will make the suit regardless and either wear it myself or get a proxy to wear it for Fur-eh. The finished suit will then be auctioned off after Fur-eh.

Full House Dutch Angel Dragons Group - coming soon!
Posted 9 years agoSo! If you've been keeping an eye on my journals, you will know I ran a little contest for designing a group of fursuits. The winner was announced earlier this month and I will be making a group of 4 Dutch Angel Dragons based off her design of playing card suits (hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs).
The winner gets first dibs on the 4 suits, then the remaining will go on sale to be worn as a group at a future con. Here is some information for you in lieu of the DADs going on sale.... if you are interested please keep an eye on my journal.
What will be the price per DAD? $2000 Canadian Dollars (yes, Canadian, NOT USD)
Which con will they be gathering for? Fur-eh 2017 in Edmonton, Alberta Canada (Yes, Canada)
When will they be going on sale? Tuesday August 2nd
Which ones will be available? The winner has selected Hearts for herself, so Diamonds, Clubs and Spades are up for grabs
How do I take part? Keep an eye on my journals for further information and rules. People may purchase the remaining 3 on a first come first served basis. Once all the DADs are purchased that's it.
$2000? that's crazy money, I don't have that kind of cash on demand! Not to fear! As with my previous group suits only a deposit of $100 will be required to hold your DAD. The remainder may be paid off at a later date.
I really really want to take part: Hey that's great! Send me a note with your email and I will inform you the instant the DADs are up for sale
Any more questions, ask below!

Design Komickrazi's next suit project - WINNER!
Posted 9 years agoDing ding ding! And we have a winner! Woooo!
First of all, let me tell you how EXTREMELY hard this was. I was sure an idea would pop out at me right away and I would be able to say "Hell yes! That's the one!" But no... I had to go over so many entries again and again before I could pick a winner. I spent a whole week going "Okay... this one.... or maybe.... no THAT one. Agh.... but THISSS one, ungh!"
On total, there was a whopping 79 entries! Holy cow! Some people submitted one idea, some people submitted several ideas, there were even a few duplicate entries where multiple people came up with the same idea. I was able to narrow it down to 5 entries that really got me excited - admittedly if I had no life and endless funds, I'd have made the lot of them XD
But in the end, there can only be one winner, and the winning entry is "Full House" by Nibbolett; a group of 4 Dutch Angel Dragons with a playing card suit theme! These suits will be up for grabs in a new group fursuit project in the near future (more details to come!)
Honorable mention goes out to 4 additional entries who made my decision extra hard. They all look like so much fun to make T_T. In no particular order, honorable mention goes to:
Rave Raptors by Cargoreborn
Moon Phase Kirins by Royalty
Sushi Cats by Feve
Moth Rainbow by Synchra
I didn't really have any prizes set aside for you lovely honorable mentions, but your submissions were just so inspiring. I will contact you in the next week or so to send you SOMETHING for your awesome designs.
Winner and Honorable mention entries can be viewed here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20600712/
Thank you EVERYONE for taking part in this contest!!!

Work Slow Down
Posted 9 years agoHey everyone, just wanted to keep all up-to-date on my current state of affairs.
I had to put my cat down today. I have been struggling with him for months as his needs have changed with age. I reached a breaking point this weekend and came to the very hard decision to put him down.
I have had Guiedo for 15 years (a longer relationship than even that of my husband of 10 years). This is really hard for me and I'm really just exhausted... emotionally and physically.
I'm trying my best to keep heart, but I think the next few weeks may be a little slower as I adjust to this hole in my life. Please understand if there are any delays for the next few weeks. I will do my best to stay on top of deadlines, but my mind is a million places at once and I just need some time to get myself back to a routine.
Thanks for your understanding.

*CONTEST!* Design Komickrazi's next suit project
Posted 9 years agoYou may be familiar with some of the past Komickrazi group fursuit projects including:
Money bucks: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11730490/
Vikings! Wolves of war: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14825270/
Adopt-a-dragon-egg: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15898763/
Seasons of Red Pandas: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/18040330/
I love making these group suits. Seeing a collection of matching or themed suits together adds so much fun and excitement to fursuit performance.
Not including the original Money bucks, every fursuit project I have made has been at the suggestion or inspiration of someone else. Hearing suggestions from others gives me an idea of what people are excited to see or love to wear. So, in order to continue on this tradition, I have elicited to make the next Komickrazi group project to be designed by YOU! How? Why with a contest of course!
What is this?
A contest to design/create/inspire an idea for a group of fursuits.
What will I win?
If your design is chosen, you will win a FREE fursuit from the project you design. You will also have first choice of the characters designed.
How do I enter?
All entires can be emailed to me at: devon[at]komickrazi.com
Entiried must include.....
1) Your name
2) Identify yourself (link me to your FA account, deviant art account, Alberta furries member page etc.) so I know who you are ^_^
3) What cons you normally attend?
4) Your design idea
What kinds of designs do you accept?
I will accept the following:
- a drawing of the group (for example: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9352331/ )
- ref sheets of each character ( for example: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/18040388/ )
- a collage of photos and reference images including your animal of choice, and any colors or symboloy you want attributed to them
- a detailed description of the basic idea (for example: The build-your-own viking, or Adopt-a-dragon-egg concept)
When do I need to get my design in?
You have until July 1, 2016 to submit your entries, this gives you almost a full 5 months to design.
When will winner be announced?
I will decide the winner no later than July 31, 2016
When will I get my prize fursuit?
Once I have selected the winning design, I will discuss with you the best convention to participate at for the group to come together. Once the convention is determined I can finalize timelines on your prize completion
IMPORTANT RULES and INFORMATION:
1) You MUST attend or plan to attend a convention in the next year. By designing and winning a suit you will be obligated to attend a convention with the rest of the group in suit. If you do not attend or plan to attend cons, you cannot meet with the rest of the group and therefore cannot take part
2) You DO NOT have to be an artist to participate. I will accept art on pre-made free templates, detailed descriptions or collages of photos. Even if the art isn't there, if your concept is interesting or exciting to me, I am willing to consider it.
3) If you win the contest, you give me the rights to use your art to produce the final fursuits. Any art you do is yours to keep, but the designs must be forfeit to me to create from. HOWEVER! If you do NOT win the contest you may keep any art you produce as your own to keep or sell as you see fit. I do not and will not keep the rights to any art or ideas submitted to me.
4) Copyright characters and ideas are NOT allowed. No pokemon, My little pony, etc characters.
5) All types and styles are welcome; I am happy to make full costumed themed partials, 3/4 suits, digitigrade, or plantigrade. I am also willing to make both toony, semi real or realistic.
6) You must make AT LEAST 2 characters. There is no such thing as a group of 1. I would prefer 4 or more, but if the design or concept is fun, I am willing to make less.
7) You may enter as many times as you want with any unique designs you have. However no matter how many entries you submit, only ONE will win.
If you have any additional questions please feel free to comment below.
Good luck everyone!

What the heck has Temperance been up to?
Posted 10 years agoI feel like it's been awhile since I updated customers and general followers as to what has been going on the last few months. It has certainly felt like I have been working steadily along with blinders on to keep me on track and in gear. So what have I been up to?
September was a blurr of cons. I attended Dragon*con with
silverhuskywolf and
wolfish42 It was a real blast and motivated me to want to make costumes and props the way cons used to do. Although I do not think I will be attending next year, I have full hopes to attend D*C again in 2017. The end of September was Rainfurrest. It was nice to see some old friends and hang out with folks... but this was my last con of the year. after 6 cons, I admit I was a little worn down and ready to stay home for awhile... a long while... in fact I do not have another con planned until May 2016.
October launched the announcement of ANOTHER group project.... because I love to torture myself >_< The Seasons of Red Pandas project will be a group of 4 redpanda fursuits with art by the lovely
synchra I am very much looking forward to debuting these pandas at BLFC next year. :3
October also turned into a month of little work. Although I have a full queue, I had the misfortune of breaking a part of my sewing machine. The feed dog plate broke, which required me to order a new plate. Since I could not find a plate to fit my machine locally, I had to order online. This meant a 2 week hiatus while the part arrived (hurrah to the slow-ass Canadian postage service). With no back up sewing machine, I had to occupy my time with other endeavors... in this case, a Comic book.
I haven't worked on a comic book in (checks the date).... 3 years! Yeesh! I had a comic script written by my friend
voice for a few years which I never had time to work on. My broken sewing machine turned into an excellent opportunity to get that comic book drawn. :3 Unlike previous comic work, I chose to draw this book a little differently; in the past I would draw out each page on an 11x17 comic page, then scan, edit and letter on my computer. This time I chose to draw each panel out individually, scan and resize and arrange the pages digitally. It was both easier and harder in many ways. The comic was fully drawn, edited, toned and lettered while I waited for my sewing machine part to arrive, and now that it is done I believe I will do a small print run of the comic to sell at Fur-Eh 2016.
I did learn one thing from drawing the comic, which was a bit of a revelation to me; I don't want to draw comic books anymore. Years ago I wanted to be a comic book artist. It was due to various reasons I leaned more to costume making in the past few years, but always expected I would do both as time went on. Now, going back to draw this comic, I have discovered I don't have the same joy in drawing like I used to. Costumes hold a much greater appeal and it may be some time before I choose to explore comics again. I still love reading them.... but I don't feel that pull to be drawing them like I used to.
November brought on a birthday and I am now 1 year older. I'm starting to feel and look my age more than I used to. It's not entirely a bad thing, but it certainly puts life in perspective. I still love my job and love where I am in life. I hope I can keep creating and I can still put on a costume and play no matter how old I get :3
I have also been taking a lot of dance classes lately! For the fall I have been taking Jazz, African and er... some sort of Variety dance thing. Part is for exercise, but part is for the love of dance. Jazz used to be my favorite style and I am working hard at getting better... but I am finding my new favorite dance is African. I hope my next dance comp entry can show off all the fun things I have learned :D
Phew! Well, that's the last 3 months or so of my life.
I have a lot of new costumes I will be working on in the weeks ahead, and hope everyone will stick around to see the fun things I am working on.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Want a seasonal red panda of your very own? Follow the instructions below!
1) Contact me at devon[at]komickrazi.com with the subject: Seasons of Red Pandas
2) Let me know which panda you are interested in: Winter or Spring
3) Identify yourself (link me to your FA account, deviant art account, Alberta furries member page etc.) so I know who you are ^_^
**Applications will be open until November 1, 2015. This gives you a little over a week to decide if you would like to take part.**
I am sure there will be a lot of interest, so I have to add some LIMITATIONS to my offer.... IF you cannot meet these limitations, I am afraid I cannot accommodate you in my Red Panda deal:
- you MUST be attending Biggest Little Fur Con 2016
- you MUST wear your Red Panda and walk the parade with me at BLFC
- you MUST be willing to wear your Red Panda for a photoshoot at BLFC (time/day of photoshoot is TBA)
- you MUST put down a deposit of $100 to hold your panda. Participants will be chosen via lottery; if more than one person wants a specific season, I will choose the winner via random number generator (Sorry, but it is the only fair way)
- you MUST pay me the remaining $1100 by no later than January 31, 2016
- you MUST mail me your DTD or provide me with requested measurements by December 2015 at the very latest
- No BLFC deliveries! You will have to pay additional fees for shipping charges for me to ship your Red Panda to you
- you are limited to Synchra's design. I will not allow changes to the designs. If you do not like how they look, you are welcome to privately commission Synchra and myself to make a Red Panda suit of your own with your own colors and designs.
FAQs:
-Will these be realistic or toony?
---Toony
-What if more than one person wants a specific season?
---Due to the small number of available slots, I will be determining owners by LOTTERY. Once all applications have been collected, if more than one person wants a specific Panda I will select a winner via random number generation.
-What if I lose the lottery?
---I am sorry, but in order to remain fair I have chosen a lottery system to ensure everyone has an equal chance at taking part in this group of suits. There are only 2 available fursuits: Winter and Spring, so if you do not win the lottery on any of the available suits, I am afraid you will not be able to take part in this Komickrazi deal at this time. If you really really want a Red Panda fursuit you may commission me through my website as a non-project commission, pricing and timeline may differ from the Seasons of Red Pandas project.
-May I request my Red Panda design to look different from the original designs?
---No. These designs were created by Synchra and approved in advance. I will not allow changes to the designs. If you do not like how they look, you are welcome to privately commission Synchra and myself to make a Red Panda suit of your own with your own colors and designs.
-What if one of the Red Pandas is not chosen?
---After the application process is closed and participants are selected, if there is a Panda that is NOT selected or if there is a participant who cannot pay the required deposit, those suits will be offered on a first come first served basis.
If you have any additional questions please feel free to comment below.
Good luck everyone!

Will you be going to parties?
Nah, going to parties means I miss the dances
Will you be performing?
I have entered the dance comp. I hope I make it past the preliminaries
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Jump and shout
Where will you be most of the time during the day/s?
In fursuit.... goofing around
What/where will you be eating?
I bring food to eat in the room, but I will be going out for dinner. Where will depend what the mood strikes me.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
Ask first, I am usually happy to get food with others, but if I have made plans with someone else please don't just invite yourself.
Can I look in your sketchbook?
It's more of a journal really... but I doodle in it if I'm bored
Can I draw in your sketchbook?
Yeah, if I can draw something in yours
Can I take your picture?
*poses*
What're your goals for the con this year?
Not get con crud.
Backstage at the Lion King
Posted 10 years agoLast year I was contacted by one of the cast of the touring production of the Lion King. I had made a Scar costume and a Lioness costume a few years ago, and through the magic of the internet, my costumes eventually got passed around the cast and crew of the stage show. The cast member invited me to visit backstage when they were coming through my city (which was a full year away). I had to bite my tongue for almost 8 months as the tour had not announced they would be traveling through Calgary. Once the announcement was made and tickets went on sale I was able to let people know I was invited to go backstage >_<
After a whole year of excitement and anticipation the day finally arrived! I spoke to my contact to make sure everything was a "go" for the evening, and she told me to come to the stage door after the show and she would have a tour all set up.
The show was good as always. It was actually better than the first time I saw it. We had pretty horrible luck the first time my Husband and I saw the performance; there were a lot of technical problems with microphones and stage pieces not working the way they should. So it was nice to see a more polished show without the bugs. I noticed they got rid of the "Morning Report" song that Zazu used to sing. I guess it was to cut time or the song was not a real hit?
Once the show concluded My husband and I and two of our friends, went to the stage door where we were met by my contact. Lots of the cast were already exiting when we came in. I was told they changed clothes fast, but wow! The Puppet Lead, who really wanted to meet me was unavailable that night, but his wife was there, so she gave us a tour. We got to look around backstage where some of the costume and prop and stage pieces were hung, then to the dressing room for the ensemble cast where their various costume pieces were hung in racks with their names on them. Finally we got to check out the work-room/repair station area, which was actually quite clean (not the chaotic mess that MY studios is in :P). Since the Puppet lead really wanted to meet me to ask about my work, his wife asked if it was possible I could come back on another day to visit with him and talk about costume stuff. I said of course, and gave them a business card so the puppet lead could contact me directly.
I was not allowed to take any photos (which is understandable). We were allowed to look at some of the ensemble costume pieces, but we were not allowed to see any of the primary actors costumes except the 3 hyenas (Shenzi, Banzai and Ed) and Sarabi (simba's Mom). Pumba was backstage, but hidden under a sheet. I learned some great facts about the show which were still very interesting; the corsets for all the characters have very little beadwork on them. Most have a few beads and cowrie shells in the front, but the rest of the corset is actually Puff paint! You can barely even tell, even looking up close that the dots are not beads at all. The hyena heads are made of sheet foam! They let me touch one to see how light they were. And the giraffe head manes are made from husk brooms. I was told when they need repairs, they simply go to home depot and buy some brooms to take apart :D
I also had a really awesome meeting with Scar :D The woman who toured us around also worked as a puppeteer for the show, so she was asking me a few questions about my costumes. I mentioned that my Scar head was made of slush cast resin instead of carbon fiber, since I would afford the extra weight for a showpiece costume as I did not have a 30lb batterypack and microphone to carry around. From behind me I heard someone say "47 lbs!" I turned to discover Scar all cleaned up and in his street clothes. It took me a second before I realized Scar was in fact Patrick Brown! For those who don't know, Patrick Brown has been playing Scar for YEARS. It was through his blog that I learned lots of thing about his costume and got lots of reference material to make my own scar costume. He even complimented me when I finished and sent him some photos. It was so exciting to meet him, and I thanked him so much. It was so cool to meet a guy I have been watching for years and actually see him perform.
We were only allowed a short time backstage, as I guess regulations say Backstage tours after shows need to be short so they can shut everything down. Our tour was only about 30 minutes, but since I was invited back to meet the Puppet lead I may have a chance to see more on another day. :D
Best. Day. Ever.

Anthrocon - post con report!
Posted 10 years agoI've been back from Anthrocon for a few days, but needed that time to get through my required Con crud allotment and PCD. Fortunately a Bojack marathon helped me along :3
Wednesday: My con curse started right on time! For those who don't know; I have the WORST luck going to Anthrocon. EVERY time I have attended AC I have had horrible luck traveling. Admittedly the season is a little to blame.... July is prime for thundershowers which can delay flights... however this time technology was to at fault. Out Flight from Calgary to O'Hare was delayed due to that system crash that shut down all the United computers.... fortunately not by much. We were delayed an hour, but we had plenty of time in O'Hare so there was no worry about missing a connecting flight.
The real delay happened in O'Hare itself (surprise surprise T_T). The flight was delayed a few hours due to the flight back up from earlier. Once we got on the plane we sat for a time before being told there was a mechanical problem. The mechanical problem went from "lets wait and see if we can fix it" to "get off the plane and we'll try and fix it" to "sorry plane's broken, get in a long long line of angry people and try to get on another flight"
Lots of people where there way before me and flew out way later, so I really cannot complain *cough*toomuch*cough*.
Eventually we were rebooked on another airline and got to Pittsburgh WAAAAAY later than I planned. We crashed right to bed.
Thursday: I had to deliver some antlers to
Lyudmylah. She gave me the cutest badge! OMG! We met in the morning and she recommended a farmers market to get noms. Excellent Suggestion! I got carrots and tomatoes and strawberries to stave off Con scurvy :d
The rest of the day was standing in line for registration.
Whoa.... AC used to have the easiest reg..... I've never had to wait in line SO long before.
Met up with
tehalbi to install a head fan. She gave me a sweet badge and a mouse pincushion/measuring tape. Man, my customers are so awesome. Thank youuuuu! I totally used the tape measure mouse later that day, it was so handy!
Friday: I set up for the art show then wandered around. At 2pm we had our Komickrazi/viking photoshoot. The plan was to have an hour long photoshoot, which turned into 3 hours! T_T I am SO sorry everyone.... you were all so patient!
Also thanks to
Shujintribble for taking time out of his con to do the shoot for us.
Due to a harness mishap I had to do an emergency wing repair for
tehalbi. Thanks for waiting so long.
Saturday: Parade dayyyy! The vikings had their last gather and howl. Going outside and seeing ALL of those Pittsburgh locals just blew my mind! Agh! I want to do that more often.... I hope us vikings weren't too scary for the kids T_T
Sunday: Noooooooooo..... I woke up sick. My master plan of suiting ALL day was foiled by the dreaded con crud. Although I did try to wash my hands and sanitize like crazy, it would seem my efforts were futile. I've never gotten sick AT a con before, the crud usually hits a day or two after I get home. So I took it easy and looked around the dealers, watched the dance comp and checked myself out of the art show.
The dance comp was so inspiring... it really made me want to dance! But everyone was so awesome, I'm kind of glad I didn't compete. I wanted to, but I did not have a routine choreographed. After seeing the competition I'm glad I skipped (not to mention doing the dance comp while sick would have really sucked!)
My husky partial at the art show sold. I was told it went to voice auction and Uncle kage even put it on >_< I wish I had a photo!
I met
sweeper-works for dinner. I'm sorry I wasn't more talkative, but I wasn't at my best T_T Lets try again at another con.
Monday: Our flight didn't leave til late in the afternoon. I still felt like crap, so lounged around the hotel most of the day looking and feeling pretty rotten. My AC flight curse continued on the return trip and we ended up being delayed in Pittsburg, then delayed in o'Hare. Another late late flight, but I did make it home.
Tuesday and onward: Lots of being sick and pathetic. But being home and sick is far superior to being away and sick.
Despite my horrible flight luck and cruddy con crud I did have an awesome time. I really do want to go again. Next year? Maybeeeee.... too early to tell yet.

Life/Work Updates - back from the May of CONS
Posted 10 years agoWooo.... I can't believe it's June! Where did May go?
My May was a super busy one; got a few pieces made, and attended two cons back to back.
Fur-eh
Yes, I skipped Fur-eh this year. Sorry to all my local furry friends and acquaintances who were expecting me to attend, but I just couldn't physically do 3 weeks back to back of cons. I hope everyone had fun and hope to take part next year.
Remember, you don't have to wait for a con to talk to me about furry stuff. You can always send me a note or email if you have any questions.
BLFC
My favorite biggest little con :3
I am always blown away with how well BLFC does their themes. At first I was completely uninterested in the Dystpopian theme, but BLFC did SUCH a good job with promotion and advertizing as well as props and decorations AT the con itself. They were so attentive to detail and fun with their barcode collar fursuit tags (which you had to scan to find out your number), and making an actual Brometheus bear fursuit.
The con pretty much doubled in size from the previous year, which I almost want to say made it too big ¬_¬ but word travels fast and it's impossible not to gush about it to friends.
I sort of wish I hadn't volunteered to take part in some things, as it did mean I had to miss out on some fun stuff I wanted to take part in.
I also lost my handpaw (don't worry it was eventually found), and had to do the parade and dance competition with my temperance puppet to hide the fact I was short a hand >_<
FurryCon
I got home from BLFC on Monday, spent Tuesday doing laundry and was back on a plane Wednesday for Rochester, NY.
The head of the con, Soron, invited me to take part as a con guest. I ran House Avarryn (the Bird house) for their Game of Thrones themed con.
Furrycon is a nice casual con, I barely suited at all, but spent most of my time chatting with people. I never felt unwelcome and could easily join a group of people standing around and introduce myself. I really liked the atmosphere of a con where you don't feel afraid or overwhelmed or alienated in a crowd.
I was thoroughly impressed by the sheer amount of STUFF this con offered. Swag for high level attendees was both great and of super high quality, the Zoo was constantly stuffed with free food (not just granola bars in the corner, but ACTUAL food like chili and hot dogs), and did I mention free booze? I kind of wished I drank, as I the sheer amount of alcohol was staggering. Even with all the booze, no one ever seemed overly drunk either (less reason to binge maybe? idk)
The con staff and volunteers were all really awesome. I felt really taken care of my entire time. Thank you Moriarty for being so attentive in the Dealers, and Thank you Janu for your hard work with the crazy wargame and banking madness ALL con, and thanks to Nimbus and Snowy for being such a big help, and thank you Keefur for keeping me supplied with all the great fox jokes, and Draconis for putting up with our last minute entry in the variety show and Thank you Soron for inviting me. I probably missed a few people... so thank you ALL!
Rochester was nice as well... I did a little touring around the town before and after the con. My only beef was the lack of actual grocery stores. I was really starved for fruits and vegetables (I had to hit 3 different "grocery stores" to find some apples and oranges to stave off scurvy at the very least)
Home again :3
It felt nice to get back in my studio after a 2 and a half week hiatus. I finished off a suit for a very patient customer and realized I was out of EVERYTHING so had to do a huge supply purchase.
I also bought a new office desk and did some re-arranging and decorating which has kept me from my studio yet again.
I am officially back to regular business hours tomorrow O_O or so I hope!
I hope June can be a productive month of playing catch-up!
