I was looking through some old art and it hit me: back in the day, it felt like it was extremely rare to find "oddfur" art. That is, art of characters with multiple/extra/misplaced body parts or other unusual forms of anatomy. Think lamia/naga, merfolk, hydras, characters who just have two heads, etc. Who would be some of the early adopters of this? ("Early" defined as "predates the existence of FurAffinity").

 justdoug aka Doug Winger (RIP) -- The most obvious choice

 arakaraath (RIP) -- lots of conjoining, merging, and multiple body parts

 kturtle -- has had a two headed vixen and three-armed turtle since forever

 rancid aka Hunnycomb Studios/Orion Starbeard -- creator of the handtaur (characters with giant hands for their lower bodies); long history of unusual stuff going back to the VCL days; thankfully still very much in the game and I'm happy to get from them every time

 tabbiewolf -- not "odd" per se, but was massively ahead of the curve when it came to wacky hybrids and uncommon species; another one I'm happy to get from every time (go follow her on Bsky!)

 strredwolf -- has been out there since the 90s, often claimed to be one of the first "multifurries"

 michaelhiggs aka Tiny Foxtaur -- lots of early hyper/multiboob stuff; seems to have retired from drawing but is still out there (and sold me two characters!)

 aubrin -- Early adopter of amputation and hyper themed content

 kobi-lacroix -- another early one with a very fun dynamic style full of multiple limbs, heads, and the like

In short, I'm looking for artists who did almost anything that could be considered "odd" or multi, and predates the existence of FA.

I am looking for any info on the following artists who all seem to have disappeared. A lot of them were influences on me in some way, or people I'd talked with in the past and lost contact with. I would love to touch base with some of them and let them know, even if they don't draw anymore -- even if they're not furries anymore -- they had an influence.

I didn't know him personally. I don't think I ever met him in person. I do have memories of seeing art of him, as far back as when Preyfar was still his main OC.

Dragoneer is the reason we're all here. He made FA what it is now and it sucks that he was unable to get the health care he clearly needed. 44 is way too young.

I love fish characters. But far too many of them are generic musclebound jock sharks with big pointy ears.

Do you have a fish OC that isn't a shark (or at least not a stereotypical one)? Goblin shark? Hammerhead? Do you have any other fish? I want to see more eels, seahorses, lampreys. Trout, koi, catfish. Manta rays.

Hey, remember VCL? The main furry art site long before FA existed? The one that just kinda quietly faded into nothingness?

I had tried to pull some stuff off archive.org to see if I could archive it. While it did work well for the most part, there were a few older artists whose work seemed to just fade into the ether as it predated the more thorough archive.org captures (or they saved only the main page and not the images).
