Creating a new Interactive Fiction site
Posted 7 years agoI've decided to formally announce that I will be creating (paying) for a new entry into the Adult Transformation Interactive Fiction sites. I will be paying for formal development of the site and have a large number of features in mind. Hopefully development costs won't kill me.
Feel free to spread this around, as I'm sure there's some things I haven't thought of. Someone suggested a "Night Mode" for reading and I just about smacked myself in the head for not thinking about it. So feel free to put any suggestions in the comments, even stupidly obvious ones. I would rather see a bunch of things I've already thought of than not see something I spaced on.
As to why I'm going to do this? Well, because Writing.com sucks. I have my IF Changing the World: Remote Control there because I can exercise quality control over it. Editing chapters so they're more readable, deleting spam chapters, etc.
The site charges you to access features, but despite having so many paid accounts, they constantly say that the use of the site is too heavy for free accounts and guest viewers. I would prefer to support my own site, instead of paying for theirs.
Now I just need a good name for the thing.
Update: On Hiatus due to other expenses.

I have not totally vanished!
Posted 8 years agoTime to say boo and give a lame status update!
Basically, nothings gone wrong, but I've been doing very, very, very little. My health improved quite a bit last year. Especially with getting treatment for previously undiagnosed sleep apnea. However I still have some fatigue issues that are tough to get a handle one.
I've dropped off RP stuff due to fatigue for long periods 3 times during these sleeping troubles and it is leaving me feeling far more reluctant to start any up again. I just never know what I'm going to feel like or have stamina for.
I also never made it anywhere with creating my own Interactive Fiction site. Just did not manage to network to someone that had the time to create one.
I'm out for now. You have fun you strange, strange people.

Looking into creating my own Interactive Fiction site
Posted 8 years agoWith having some commissions specifically for my interactive fiction on Writing.com I have discovered that picture functionality is locked to an even higher cost account tier.
The reason I put my story on Writing.com is because it gave me editorial control over it and that the site has more than a few transformation focused IF's.
The biggest issue, among others, is that Writing.com is a poor medium to get people without accounts or non-subscription accounts to read and enjoy the IF's on it.
Sites such as CYOC, the BEAddventure, and Fiction Branches only give you posting privileges and I want more control.
This might be a pipe-dream for me, but I don't see how the groundwork for the work needed for even a feature-rich IF shouldn't be very intense. Of course, since I don't know much about the needed work, I could be talking out my ass.
So consider this more a post that I'm frustrated with Writing.com. It may prelude something better to come for my work. Anyways, enjoy what you can everyone!

Much later, minor amounts of information.
Posted 9 years agoHey there, everybody. There's not a whole lot of news. My Writing.com story, Changing the World: A Perverse Universal Remote Story, has seen additions over the year, so if you haven't taken a look in awhile, you might find some fun stuff to catch up on.
I've also started paying for writing commissions for that story. Around $3 a chapter for a decent chapter, typically 20 chapters in a commission. Something like 4+ paragraphs per chapter. I would love to encourage more contributions and paying for the occasional commission seems a good way to do that.
The real news is I've recently been diagnosed with severely disrupted sleep. Pretty sure I'm looking at a sleep apnea diagnoses. That would mean I just don't get the right kind of sleep to recharge myself. I've certainly suffered far too much fatigue for plenty of years. Hopefully this means I'll regain concentration and focus and be able to write more and maybe get back into RP on F-List.

Months later, there is activity. Interactive Fiction ahoy!
Posted 10 years agoHey there people. No art, not games, but I've started up a transformation based story at Writing.com
Changing the World: A Perverse Universal Remote Story
A lot of these remotes do swapping and often in a limited fashion. This one allows for copying and other nifty tricks. Anthro or human is in the cards and the current branch gets to some merging people into anthro horses.
Certainly some of the people who will notice like the themes. I hope some of you enjoy reading it.

Writing, Games, and Inform 7
Posted 11 years agoI may not really have an audience here, but my attention has been drawn to the idea that a few people who have written stories have perused my profile and maybe looked at my games. So why not put up a journal based on that?
My game, The Capture of Diana, is written in Inform 7. This is a natural language programming language. It's main goal is to let writers create text adventures without needing any extensive programming knowledge. If you know of Flexible Survival, that is also written with Inform 7.
Ripped right frrm the pages of the book I used is this limerick that is a perfectly valid piece of Inform 7 code. Although, you wouldn't be able to do anything in it, it's a fine example:
The Hole Below is a dark room.
The description is "Cavernous gloom."
The lamp is in Seoul.
Before going in Hole.
Instead say "You will meet a grue soon."
It's a strange thing, but clever, and it was pretty motivating to me. An easy way to make a simple game. My writing of The Capture of Diana was prompted by this subjectively wonderful book, Creating Interactive Fiction with Inform 7. It's wonderfully written and walks you through creating the authors own text adventure Sand Dancer. I really enjoyed reading and following along with it. I didn't even finish the book before I started working on my game.
If you're a writer that's wanted to make a game, Inform 7 is more than worth a look and I highly recommended Aaron Reed's book there. Outside of Roleplaying experiences, I had no experience writing a story. I took some basic programming classes over ten years ago, but the language is so simple. If I can write a decent game using this, then anyone should consider giving it a try.
The engine is free. A book isn't that much, and the net has plenty of free resources if that isn't the route for you. Who knows? It shouldn't hurt to try.

The loss of lurking.
Posted 11 years agoA formal greetings to anyone stumbling in and wondering what's up. Bought commissions and 1.2 games. I've been a lurker for a long time, but eventually, books on Inform 7, game like Corruption of Champions and Flexible Survival got me too interested to stay out of the pond. In the end, I have things to display and now they're displayed on FA.
Maybe one wonders if there are future things to expect. Well, more art may show up, it's not too hard to pay for a commission, after all. And who knows, sometimes games get fans that just have to draw something.
As of yet, I consider the games a fluke. I'm glad I made them It was fun, it tested what I'm capable of in a concrete and displayable way. Much fun and sense of accomplishment was had by all.
But it's all about getting back to it, and my track record is poor on that. Still, it happened once, it may happen again.
So I hope you enjoy what little there is and wish you well.
