My Dad
Posted 9 years agoLast month my mother called to say that an operation to stop my father's chronic atrial fibrillation failed, and there was nothing further to be done. His blood wasn't getting enough oxygen, brain cells were dying -- he's very weak and day-to-day.
He had some seizures...
So far he's been hanging in there, and they found another procedure that might help -- but he's back in the hospital with his A1C numbers too high to count. He hadn't been taking his insulin, apparently, and there's fluid building up around his heart.
I'm currently on a death-watch, jumping every time the phone rings, knowing I won't be able to go home for his funeral. He never was a "good" dad or husband, but he's mine and I love him, and I'll miss his stubborn quarrelsome ass.
Please excuse any weirdness or delays for the next little while -- He might recover, but it seems unlikely. I'm having real trouble dealing with this...

I apologize for dropping out of sight this fall. It’s been a really rough ride that has affected nearly every part of my life. When last we spoke, I was waiting to get biopsies on a pair of tiny nodes in my breast. I said I wasn’t worried, because cancer is rare in my family.
However, there were enough delays and weird findings that I psyched myself out. Those who know me well know that I suffer from our REAL family curse: Chronic Depression. My mood plunged, my work suffered, I felt like my whole life was suspended between one breath and the next.
So here I am, three and a half months later: the lumps were benign, but now I’m left trying to dig my way out of a depressive malaise. I want to thank all of my customers for their continued patience – My meds have been upped and I appear to be responding, and I’m now hard at work filling my commissions. It feels good, except for the cold that’s been kicking my ass all week!

Posted 10 years agoAlso a personal update... Sorry I've been so quiet lately. Been having more of those pesky health problems. I'm currently in the midst of a cancer scare: they found two lumps via ultrasound, and want to do a needle biopsy. I'm really stressed out by not knowing, though I'm not really "worried" about malignancy as there isn't much history of cancer in the family. (Two of my father's sisters: one died of undetermined cancer, the other had a double mastectomy.)
On the other hand, I've been rather productive the last week, so that's good. Anyway, think good thoughts for me!

Posted 11 years agoTraditionally, November & December have been slow for commissions. With Christmas looming, people are looking for tangible items that they can get without the long wait for a commission to be finished. This year is no different, and I unhappily find myself distressingly short with this month's rent. With an unemployed hubby, my art sales are my only real income, and when that falls short I have to sell some of my beloved pretties.
Better that than eviction! So, I find that my lovely Dark Natasha originals (all beautifully framed under plexiglass) must be offered for sale. This is a limited sale -- once I make the rent money, the sale is over. Here's a link to my Live Journal entry, with pictures:

Posted 11 years agoI've been recovering from surgery (which went very well -- they found two dozen BB-sized stones in my gallbladder!) Now that I can sit up again, I'm ready to get back to work. I'll be posting commission info tomorrow, plus an emergency sale of beautiful Dark Natasha originals from my private collection.
The rent money I've spent all month gathering was just stolen, forcing this sale so I can pay my rent (due in a few days). I'll post the particulars here tomorrow, but until then here's a link to my Live Journal account. This has been a really awful day...

Health Update
Posted 11 years agoWell, those who know me know I've been struggling with stomach and gallbladder issues for at least a couple years now. This includes the ever-increasing frequency of localized pain in the stomach and lots of gallstones. Because I was on the lowest form of insurance (I am very very poor) they've been pussy-footing around with acid reducers that have done very little (though they did do an endoscopy that showed lots of inflammation and an ultra-sound that showed lots of stones in the gallbladder.)
The frequent pain has really slowed me down in my work, and I apologize. I hope to be able to speed up production soon, because I finally had a surgeon consult today! Thanks to the Affordable Care Act and the expansion of Medicare (which I now qualify for), it looks like this gallbladder nightmare might finally be coming to a close. Now all I have to wait for is a date for the surgery.
Thank you all -- especially my customers -- for hanging in there with me. I'll keep you updated. ^_^
