Blood Glucose Swing
Posted 13 years agoI might have to call my doctor or the Educator on Monday about this.
Was up around 400 this afternoon due me not getting the pump site injected properly. However the third time was the charm, so I started getting insulin properly. Now I'm running 48 at 1 a.m. though I just ate some bread and peanut butter to get my sugars up to where they should be.
I ask because I'm wondering if this is normal.

Insulin Pump
Posted 13 years agoWell I decided to make yet another major change in my life.
My doctor has been trying to get me on an insulin pump for years, and my biggest worry was always going to be how much it's going to cost. But I decided to bite the bullet and see if I could get on one.
I got a phone call from a medical supply company this afternoon, and after talking to them I found that the pump is going to cost me nothing. My insurance is going to cover everything and my out of pocket expense is $0.
Now this is going to be a huge because I'm going from traditional insulin injections to a machine. I'm hoping that I can acclimate to this quickly, and learn everything I need to do. So I avoid another hospital trip because I forgot to do something.
Hopefully my doctor will be able to get me on some new insulin that supposed to be five times more potent than what is currently out there. Which for me means I won't be changing my pump out every day and a half because of how much I use.
We'll see how this works out for me.

Mostly Clean House
Posted 13 years agoOy, the last two days have been filled with the sounds of remodeling and cleaning.
I'm just hoping that the house can stay as clean as it currently is. I may have to talk to my roommate(s) about their responsibilities the next time I see them.

Still pondering toys.
Posted 13 years agoThere are a number of things that I want to get for myself. Most notable is an iPad, second in line is a new phone.
People I've talked to love their iPads and suggest that I take the plunge and get one for myself. And I'm seriously tempted to, but it's a $800 toy, and I've got to think long term here. Right now I'm almost living outside my comfort zone money wise. I have to cover 2/3 of bills because one of my roommates moved out, and I might not get a replacement in August. Now if I get my home loan refinanced and the major credit cards paid off it becomes less of a burden. And if I do then I can probably justify spending the money.
But that's if I get someone to move in... At this point I'm not sure what people's plans are. I know my roommate's girlfriend is planning on moving in, but that might change in an instant. A former roommate might come back to town, but he wants to have a job first. (I might talk to him and see if he can't find something in the meantime while he looks for the job he wants) Another former roommate is looking for a place to stay. But I've heard rumors that he's just looking for crash space while he looks for a job, and when he gets said job he's moving out again.
It's all so frustrating seeing things that I want, but can't really justify spending the money on. I've even looked for used iPads and they are scarce.
I've also looked at those penny auction sites, and I really don't want to try my luck there. It's odd how they do things. I have to buy bids or get people referred to the site so I get bids that way. Then when I bid on items I subtract a bid from my pool. So if I run out of bids I either have to buy more, or stop trying. And then if I do win an auction I still have to pay for the item.
Even for a refurbished iPad 2 it's still $500-$600. Maybe I should just be happy with what I have and wait until something comes along that is way cheaper.

Why are there so many Tech toys out there.
Posted 14 years agoGrr. Today I guess i've been on sort of an iPad or e-reader binge. Saw the new Nook Touch advertised in the Best Buy ads, and I decided that I would go there and do some research. I really wanted something that is super portable to carry all of my gaming books, character sheets, etc. Currently I carry around a backpack with some rules books, a 1" binder for character sheets, and various other items. Or I have paper sheets that are handed out for games. I think it would be great to have something like that where I can take out a large chunk of stuff out of my bag.
But then I keep coming back to the same counter arguments. "You don't need one of those. You don't have enough money to afford a new toy. If you buy one now six months down the road it will get replaced with something newer and better. Don't you have a vacation coming up in November that you could use the money for instead."
Maybe I really do need to get off my arse and sell my old WoW:TCG Rares, even if I only get a couple hundred for them It's something I could put towards other stuff.
Like art or badges... Dangit there I go again...

Flooded Bull
Posted 15 years agoThis morning I woke up to a hungry cat and a very flooded basement. Once I assessed the major issues and damage. I attempted to get my sump pump working, which was off because the breaker tripped. So I spent an hour and a half trying to get things either pumped out, or sucked up via a five gallon wet/dry shop vac. Needless to say nothing was working. The pump's motor was blown and tripping each breaker I tried it on. Also sucking up five gallons of water and dumping it down the toilet would take forever.
So I called a local plumber and had them come out to replace the pump. After about an hour it was installed, working and my major worries were over. Now for the hard part, the bill... $403 was the final cost on my end. I called my mom earlier and for my birthday she put $150 towards the bill. So all in all this cost me $253, so far. One of my roommates suggested that split the remainder between all of us, and up rent for a few months to cover their part of the pump.
I had already taken the day off from work so he and I were planning on cleaning up as much as we could. We ran to Wal-Mart and I spent another $70 on buying plastic totes, garbage bags, disinfectant (with mold killer), sandwich bags, and some turkey dogs. (Cause i'm going to be eating cheap for a while)
We've spent the better part of today cleaning, tossing garbage and old clothes, packing things up in plastic totes, sucking up loose water, running laundry (cause there were clean clothes in baskets downstairs, and I'm going to be soaked from sweat as well), trying to keep our pets from getting underhoof, figuring out the carpet shampooer, and a list of other things.
Right now i'm taking a break cause it's very humid down there. And I'm hoping that I will get things cleaned up by the end of the night, so I don't have to take another day off from work.

Frustrated Bull Part 5 (Final)
Posted 15 years agoWell I finally gave up on the computer. I replaced as much as I could and nothing seemed to fix the problems. So I eventually bought myself a new computer system. It is so sexy sweet and it is running everything and then some. I don't want to say how I had to pay for it, but it needed to be done.
Frustrated Bull Part 4, now with medical issues
Posted 15 years agoFigured it's been a while since I updated on here.
Got a new motherboard, got it running, memory works. And the thing still blue screens randomly. After much troubleshooting it might be the video card going bad. *sighs* Great another part that I may have to wait for a replacement on. Though I do just plan on buying a new one when I can afford it and seeing if that fixes my final issue.
Now for the medical side. After FCN I came down with something. I don't know what it could have been, I figured it was just con crud. So I stayed home and took things easy from work. Last Sunday I had a fever of 100 so I planned on seeing the doctor the next day. Went and saw the doctor to get some antibiotics, and I continued to do my usual until Monday night when I started vomiting, a lot... Spent that night next to the toilet not being able to keep water down, roommate thought it was the flu. Turns out that it was worse, so the next morning off to the emergency room.
After getting through hours of the ER the doctors tell me I'm going through another bought of diabetic ketoacidosis, probably caused by the Strep throat and lack of doing my meds like I should have been. So I spent the rest of the week lying in bed in the ICU until my sugars got back to normal, and then a few more days in a normal room getting better overall. I was seriously messed up.
So yeah, if you see me at a con and I don't look well. Kick me and require that I do a blood test right there in front of you. Just to make sure I don't go through this again.
I'm hoping to get a new meter soon so I can keep better track of things, and keep my sugars under control.
Anyways, off to bed with me.

Frustrated Bull Part 3
Posted 15 years agoWell my replacement motherboard showed up on Friday and I put it together and I hoped that I had fixed my issue.
Turns out I was wrong...
My system still has the same problem and will not finish the most basic process of starting up. So I'm left with the processor being the bad part. I've replaced the memory, and the motherboard over the past month. Granted it hasn't cost me much more than $20 and a month's worth of time. And I think the processor isn't something that is covered by it's warranty anymore. *sigh*.
I'm going to disassemble and reassemble my computer sometime today and see if I missed anything.
But if that doesn't fix my problem I'm left with the following options.
1. Buy a new processor.
2. Buy new parts and an OS to replace the three things that I think are wrong with my system.
3. Buy a new computer from Dell.
I've listed them in order from least expensive to most expensive. But there are downsides to all options.
Option 1 may or may not fix the problem. I would really like to have a spare processor that I could borrow to confirm the problem before outright buying a new one. But that can't happen since I don't know anyone with the same style of processor that I have just lying around.
Options 2 and 3 would definitely fix the problem. The issue is that I would have to apply for more credit and pay for either new parts or a whole new computer. I dislike having to do this because I already have enough debt and I really don't want more. My car is nearly paid off and I was hoping to use the extra money to pay off a couple of credit cards over time. Not to mention get my car into a repair shop and have them look at some problems I've been having.
I'm going to continue to think about things. And I'm really hoping that taking things apart and putting them back together will somehow fix the issue.

Frustrated Bull Part 2
Posted 15 years agoWell my new memory arrived and my computer is still having the same issues. So now it's a call to the motherboard company and another few weeks of waiting for replacement parts. *grumble* part of me wants to just buy new parts and try to salvage something out of this. While the other part says, it's a lifetime warranty they will replace it for free. Part 2 is currently winning, but we shall see if a new motherboard fixes the problem.
*sigh*
*sigh*
Frustrated Bull
Posted 15 years agoRight now my PC sits dead next to me. From my tests I have traced the problem to the memory, maybe the motherboard. I'm hoping that the memory company gets me an RMA to ship them the memory for testing. What really sucks is that I bought more memory of the same kind only to have it start failing as well.
Yeah... Brand new memory starts failing after maybe 20 minutes of use. I ran a memory tester and the new memory has over 60K errors on the first pass for all four gigabytes before I shut it down. Roommate ponders if it could be a motherboard issue, but I won't know for sure until I get the results from the memory test that I am waiting for.
I tried another slot this morning to see if my board is horked instead of the memory. If it is the motherboard then it's another few weeks of trying to get a RMA to swap that part out. And while this is happening I'm just getting more and more frustrated with life.
There are other issues that are also complicating things but I am working through those, but it involves more and more waiting.

Can't sleep.
Posted 16 years agoI shouldn't be up this late. But I can't sleep. I'm not sure if it's because I took a nap earlier in the day, or if my blood sugar decided to play havoc with my body.
Ah well. I suppose I could try and go back to bed and see if just lying there makes a difference.

Writing Woes
Posted 17 years agoHave you ever had a problem where you have a great idea for a story/background simmering around in your head but can't get it out?
Well I'm currently having that issue right now. I have a character that I've been playing in a game for a few months now, but I haven't written his background. This character has some great ideas that I can just picture in my head, but I can't seem to get them written down into a cohesive group of paragraphs.
There are some things written down, but that is because I don't want to forget them, it's mostly a jumble of random thoughts. The background started out as a story, but after a few days of thinking about it I changed my mind and started over as a short bio. Now I'm not sure if I want it to be a short bio anymore.
My other major problem is that I can't seem to keep myself motivated to write. There is a story that I started about a year ago, and after the first few days of writing it just stopped. I try and pick back up where I left off, but that spark of inspiration isn't there anymore.
Anyways, It's late and I should get to bed.
