Article Seed: Siesta 2015: Multicultural Night

Looking for any interaction with Furry Siesta attendees the various multicultural events nearby...friendly moments with the colorful Indian wedding, or a snapshot of a fursuiter dancing with the Prime Minister of Uganda. I heard that was a thing!
Photos I have: Ach, only one, I may not be able to work with this one :( (https://www.flickr.com/photos/13569.....29/]LINK[/url])
Things I need: More images, more stories, more thoughts!
Quotes: Needed, this is super-tentative right now!

TFF2016 article seed: Circus Freaks!
Posted 9 years ago(Thoughts toward an article for Furry Fiesta Flashback. A complete list of articles and Work in Progress here (LINK)
Did you make it to the Circus Freaks show? They were a hoot. Improv, acrobatics, a little juggling, some suspension and trapeze, a lady on stilts, a clown who really did not care about your personal space, and SO MANY SQUEAKERS.
Photos I have: (LINK)
Things I need: I'm pretty good on still images, more always welcome but this is not a "need" at this point :) I don't have any video though. I know I saw cameras filming, and the Freaks are very positive about people sharing their images :)

Article Seed: Siesta 2015: The Hat That Went Round The Con

Getting ideas for the non-con Siesta is hard, because it was just a friendly chattery space. There's several photos of a hat being passed around from staff to attendee to staff, and maybe looking at that like a "Travelling lawn gnome photo story" might be fun? I have no idea where the hat came from...

Things I need: A few more images, and any ideas about what happened with this hat or why :) Where is the hat now?

The plinko board up near the main ballroom totally exceeded staff expectations, going from a "ha-ha" to a serious involvement opportunity, with members and guests scribbling on the board and lots of money raised! That...that was a big surprise :)
Photos I have: At least one shot of the board itself, a few videos on YouTube of Buddy playing
Things I need: A few more images, shots from the art on the plinko board
Quotes: oops, I missed this one entirely! The more voices I can get on this, the better :)

TFF was the first furry con after the biggest furry movie ever...the musical guests played it (two covers from TFF2016 here (LINK), panels mentioned it, and we shipped our sponsors off for a showing? How did the world of TFF and Zootopia intersect?
Photos I have: One or two pics of tiger fursuiter in sparkly shorts, images from the sponsor Zootopia roadtrip, slides from Nuka's psych panel
Things I need: A few more images, one or two more paragraphs or thoughts

#TFF2106 in review :)
Posted 9 years agoOh my gosh, I have so many notes in my celphone, in Telegram, on stray sheets of paper...I don't know if I can ever collect them all!
This was the best con experience I've had, beginning to end. There were a few problems, but they were mostly background elements, and in most cases, invisible. Lots of success.
In advance of TFF, we'd built a small team of friends with cameras (Thank you so much to photo staff team Shrike and Jackpot, friends-with-cameras Axle, Teeka, Kieran, Kilo, MAx, Enon, and HUGE thanks to my right-hand volunteer, Higuma!) We were able to bring cameras to many smaller events that normally wouldn't get much coverage. Of course, we couldn't get there before Wild Bill TX did, but it's not a competition :) Telegram is an amazing tool!
Big Stories? Hmm...those are what I most want! The Circus Freaks were a treasure, I'm so glad to have had that in the con! And I think being the first convention after Fiesta after Zootopia HAS to be a story. I'm just not sure how to frame it!
There's a few other stories out there I can see the edges of, and some that I didn't see but am looking forward to :)
Had a great time chasing down photographers and talking with them about the project, and perhaps scaring some of them! It was a special treat finally meeting WildBillTX, Eduardo Soliz, and Images by Allie.
I heard that Path gave a callout to the Furry Flashback project during closing ceremonies--but I missed it! Doh! Oh well, maybe I can catch the video after the fact...
What's next? Get the conbook online, the raw numbers, add to the photo gallery as I can, process my own little stock of 350 or so shots, learn Adobe Light Room, get back with everyone who said something kind to me...most of the staff is done for the year, but Flashback's just starting up :)
Thank you for everyone who made this such a wonderful con!

Getting in the Wayback Machine, 2004
Posted 10 years agoCurrently, my plan is to slowly work backward from 2015, making a little magazineblog for each year until I get all the way back to 2009. If the panels I have set up for #TFF2016 go well ("do you remember" panels for 2009 and 2010) I may be able to build those long-ago issues sooner! We'll see.
When I get back to 2009, I want to fold an article about Texas Furry Con 2004 into that issue.
It's going to be challenging! There's not a lot of material about that long-ago con floating in the ether. Nothing on Flickr, nothing on FA that I can find with a simple keyword search. I've found one photographer that did a pretty solid job covering things, check Shrag's gallery, but I can't actually find out who "Shrag" was, so I'll be using their images without permission. Not my first choice, but otherwise they'll just evaporate. I took a very photos as well, but at the time I really only was taking photos of my close friends.
It was a good con, a strong local event with almost 400 people. The met their goals, they gave money to charity. People had fun. Sadly, it never grew into a bigger thing, the convention's president was wrapping up a degree, and drama over the next year did a lot to sour the pot going forward. Can you really document furry history without getting drama on your paws?

Launching in January!

The road to getting online has been long, if not rocky or twisted. I'm a long-time blogger, but most of my projects don't attract a lot of attention. But the Furry Fiesta website has a long history of being targeted by cyber attacks, and one does not simply A) walk into Mordor, B) win an argument with a bear, or C) install wordpress on a site with high security needs, no matter how easy it is!
The TFF website is going through a lot of evolution to become cleaner, more responsive, and easier to update, and the Flashback page will be a part of that. Right now we're looking for a January launch date. So while all the other staffers are frantically getting ready for #TFF2016, I'll be frantically getting ready for #TFF2014!
Exciting! Sort of!

Mascottage
Posted 10 years agoThe secret life of Texas Furry Fiesta mascots, not well known :) There's Jack (TFF Page) , the more boisterous and active of the pair, and probably the most commonly seen Jackalope in the Texas Furry Fiesta wild.
And then there's Jack's cousin April May June, who is--apparently--the somewhat more reserved of the two. (TFF Page)
Jack I've seen riding cowboy style on a rocket and facing down a horde of wasteland mutants armed with his horns, a pistol, and a sneer. I KNOW he's going to be where the party is. But I've seen April spinning the steel wheel at the DJ table and getting ready to launch into the sky in a red-gold cape and thigh-highs (and if there aren't killer heels on those boots, there's no justice in the world.)
It is my opinion that BOTH of the Furry Fiesta mascots have way too much fun, so I'm getting some pictures made of the newest member of the Jackalope's huge family, Aunt Minutia. As the older sister of the Jackalope Clan, she's seen...pretty much everything...and forgot how to look surprised back in 2010. But she does like chocolate.

Argh wordpress theme argh :)
Posted 10 years agoI'm torn. Trying to pick the perfect wordpress theme for Furry Flashback. It should be lots of images, a good magazine theme that can handle galleries well and is easy on the eye. Also, I'm only so-so competent when it comes to deep Wordpress wizardry, so it can't be TOO sophisticated. Here's the ones I'm stuck between:
UberGrid - (currently my favorite): a busy little magazine theme with a very regular and organized layout.
Demand - a somewhat darker and more organized theme. Maybe too professional-looking for a furry con's photoblog, but I particularly like the way it handles image collections.
Nexus - a flashy magazine theme from Elegant Themes. I've worked with them before (I used Origin for a long time for one of my blogs), so the learning curve shouldn't be high, but there's a lot of steps to build galleries and suchlike, more than I'd like. Also, ongoing support from this company is a subscription fee...so, that.
I've been trying to pick a theme for about six months now! UberGrid and Demand are high up there, and the playfulness of UberGrid may win out, ultimately...

Thank you!!
Posted 10 years agoThank you to everyone who's already offered to share their photos and stories! We've got about 10 contributors already!
I'm working with TFF staff on solving the problems of internet hosting currently, and once that's taken care of, it's time to crack open a fresh install of Wordpress and get to work! I'll be starting with 2015, while things are still fresh, then working on 2014 if there's time (and I can get Wordpress to do what I want it to...we'll see.)
Furry Fiesta's in March, and my current plan is to schedule at least one panel and see if I can get the folks who remember 2009, the first TFF, together, and try to build something like a series of false but interesting memories about our first convention :)
Thank you all very much for sharing in the excitement of this project!

I'm going blind!
Posted 10 years agoOh mi gosh, I just browsed every image that was tagged with "Furry Fiesta" and there was about 15,000 of them! My vision is seriously going and foxes are burned into my retinas, but I think I'm +watching everyone who's got at least a few photos from TFF. Now, onto IMGUR and Flickr...
time for some coffee.

Posted 10 years agoHowdy from Texas!
Texas Furry Flashback is a new project from the staff of Texas Furry Feista, a look back at the almost 10 years of Fiesta. There's lots of great photography and stories from Texas's awesome furry convention, and we don't want to lose those! We'll be using this FA account to get feedback, story ideas, quotes, and other input from our community, posting story ideas, and hopefully building a community to carry us to #TFF2016 and beyond!
