I'm home! And a video update!
Posted 12 years agoMade it back into Idaho yesterday! I've been delayed on getting the Fursuit ID list done due to traveling and the like, but will work on it when I can. I also have a big exam tomorrow so that takes priority!
Here's a quick update though!
Firstly, VICTORY!!! WMG RELEASED THE CLAIM on one of my videos that had been blocked worldwide...so the video gets to stay on Youtube, yay! It's this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvhSPFRRLgI
Secondly, it turned out the Utah Furries were having a fur meet on November 9, the same day I was in Salt Lake after landing the night before. So I joined them...and got some amazing photos and video of fursuits on ice!
I'll have all of that up on Youtube and my gallery here soon enough!
I'm still on a massive emotional high from all the wonderful meets I've been attending. I love being a part of this fandom. :)

A Big Thank You and Farewell to the Northeast Furs
Posted 12 years agoYep, today's my last day in the Northeast. :(
Sad to be going back home, but grateful to have met so many awesome people during my stay up here. I have to thank
dapperdragon and her mom for providing a place for me to stay for the last month, and 
quinexe and 
sludgecrawler for rooming with me and DD at Furfright.
I can't begin to describe how much good it has done me to become more involved in the fandom, and the experiences over the last month have only solidified my knowledge that this is definitely the right community for me.
When I get back to Idaho, the plan is to start reaching out to and organizing local furs, and I plan to start a furmeet of my own. If we get large enough we may get the chance to do some real good for local charities as well!
But yes....thank you all SO much for an amazing time. Shout out to
terrawolfdog for meeting me at NYCC and Times Square, 
nashida and 
angeldemondark for hanging out with me at the con...and to everyone else who spoke with me, gave advice/hugs/insight at the con, and all of you who make this fandom such an enjoyable community to be a part of.

New Facebook Group for East Idaho Furries
Posted 12 years agoSo...after FurFright and the Rocky Hill furmeet, it's really become apparent to me that we /really/ need a place for people of East Idaho who are furries to find information on local furmeets and such...as, as far as I'd known, there were no such meets.
Only to find out today that there was in fact a meet a while back in Idaho Falls, and an upcoming one in Twin Falls. All of this info was buried under a sea of brony posts in a Brony and Furry hybrid group.
So I created a furry group for East Idaho, and you can find it here:

FurFright 2013 Fursuit ID Project Now Over 250 Fursuits
Posted 12 years agoJust wanted to let you all know that the ID project for the FF 2013 Fursuit Parade has had an additional 70 suiters added to it today, and with your help we can continue to fill in the blanks!

FurFright 2013 Fursuit Parade and ID Project Now Online!!

I finally have the video of the 2013 FurFright Fursuit Parade online!
With this video I have decided to try to promote every suiter in the video by providing their character name as well as FA, and handy time stamps to help everyone find themselves in the parade!

Blocked worldwide - Really? (Also Happy Halloween!)
Posted 12 years agoFirstly, Happy Halloween! Hope you all take the opportunity to have fun and fur it up on the one day a year that we'll all blend in with the other costumers out there!
Secondly - Got notification that my videos on Youtube were blocked worldwide due to the background music being played at the con being copyrighted content. I filed a dispute and the videos are available again (for now). I admit to being very frustrated at the way copyright and intellectual property infringement protections are going...as they are starting to spill over into the realm of no one being able to even upload any video with an incidental background clip of any music that one can purchase somewhere...or even songs that are playing on a TV in the background!
It's pretty silly and I think it's reaching levels of overkill. I'll be glad when things inevitably come back to a more reasonable compromise, but looks like I'll be fighting this stuff for a little while. There's music in the parade video too so no doubt I'll be having to file a dispute for that as well!
Anyway, wanted to get the parade online today but I've had some computer issues as well as typing out legal responses and such so perhaps tomorrow or later tonight?

So...I had this idea to try to identify every fursuit in the Furfright 2013 Fursuit Parade video...which is proving to be a massive undertaking as I'm already over 100 suiters in and only 1/3 of the way through the parade!
I'm able to identify a good number of the suiters either based on knowing them or having interacted with them at the con, as well as some detective work on FA and fursuit makers' websites...but there remain many suits that I can't fully identify!
However, I was also a little unsure as to whether everyone would want me to identify their suits and link to their FA from the video, so thought I'd issue a journal giving people a chance to opt-out if they wanted to. Otherwise, the video will promote their suit and their gallery here on FA. Free promotion, yay!
So when I get the video posted (which should be tomorrow), if you see anyone in the video that isn't identified or see yourself in the video and I haven't identified you, let me know! And by all means let me know if you'd like me not to ID your FA in the vid as well. I will respect this!

Furfright was AWESOME. Still in CT for a while!
Posted 12 years agoSo...by now I'm sure everyone's getting flooded with Furfright journals, so I'll try to keep this brief, BUT...
Wow...I'm really glad that I took the advice of my friends and made Furfright my first con. So many fantastic fursuiters, friendly people, good conversations, and friends made at this convention. Had a chance to meet Telephone, Halopromise, Crazy Joe and other well known fursuiters, and absolutely loved meeting and talking with people at the panels, in the hallways and around Cromwell.
Being the only active fur that I know about in my hometown, it was absolutely refreshing to be around so many other people who can share in this interest/passion/hobby and understand what it all means. While I do love having the opportunity to educate people who haven't encountered furries on the positive aspects of the fandom, it does get lonely at times being the only one around! Having my first con was definitely one of the highlights of my life, and further cements that becoming a fur was the right choice for me.
I missed a number of panels I wanted to attend, as well as the second fursuit parade (ack!), but also got some awesome unexpected experiences, such as hanging out with nashida for nearly the entire con, and having a chance at being a part-time handler with both her and sludgecrawler during the con. Had a few opportunities as a result to talk to some of the suiters in the headless lounge, all of which were lovely and interesting people, and managed to put together a pretty good list of potential makers for Blue's suit...which I hope to debut next year if all goes well!
Didn't bring home much from the dealers, only a keychain and a repair to one of my tails, but did manage to put the rest of my spending money into the charity drive, so at least it went to a good cause!
Over the coming days I'll be putting videos from the con on Youtube and photos on my FA page to share with all of you. If you have a preference at all for being linked or NOT linked from any youtube video let me know, otherwise I will try to link to those I recognize in the videos. I'm also happy to note anyone with links!
I must admit to having a bit of the post-con blues, and hope to get back to a con again as soon as I can afford to do so. Hoping to hit AC 2014, definitely going to do FF 2014, and who knows, maybe I'll hit one of the smaller regional cons next year as well.
For now, I'm still in Connecticut for the next week and a half before heading back to Idaho, so while I'm in the area if there's anyone else still in Connecticut that would like to hang out or have an impromptu fur meet or something, I'm up for it as long as it isn't TOO far from central CT.
Huge thanks to dapperdragon for putting me up while in connecticut, quinexe for getting me into the fandom and suggesting Furfright in the first place, and sludgecrawler for being cool to my brother and an all around nice guy.

They seem very nice, positive, and down to earth. She isnt flashy or shallow. She's real and approachable. Plus she has that kind of undiscovered beauty about her...she doesnt realize she's gorgeous, and I personally love showing someone how beautiful they really are.
Sadly, I can only appreciate her from a distance, as its too soon for me to approach her. I myself haven't healed enough, and really need to focus on myself for a while.

Two Furry Forums You Should Join
Posted 12 years agoSo...by now everyone knows why I left FAF...and it seems I'm not alone in realizing that that forum...while entertaining...is still often a pretty unhealthy place for discussion.
But I'm on two forums that...while they lack the snark and sass and sarcasm of FAF, they are much friendlier and a much, much wider variety of topics are discussed because people aren't immediately shot down for their ideas.
I'm missing the old bunch of friends I interacted with on FAF and would like to invite you all to join both The Furry Forum and Furtopia.
Why both?
Well...a few reasons. First of all...while both of these forums are friendly...Furtopia is geared towards family friendly discussion and as a result the rules on "keeping it clean" are a little more strict than TFF. Despite this though, they don't really come down hard on people and you get a good variety of both intelligent discussion and general silliness. Furtopia also has fantastic lifestyler discussion coexisting with people who really view Furry as only a hobby...without all-out war erupting.
The Furry Forum is now back from a massive server failure that took out their site for two weeks. They're the forum most like FAF in terms of layout and general atmosphere, with a PG forum rating versus Furtopia's G rating.
Also..as the very first search result on Google for Furry forums, they stand to grow into a very large discussion group, perhaps taking the #2 spot behind FAF. And like Furtopia, there's coexistence between furries of all types. And like Furtopia..there are people who will remind others that they're taking it too far. So there's sanity.
The mod team is fantastic and the board is easy on the eyes. There is also a designated forum games section. :)
The catch to TFF is that you have to prove you're human for your first three posts by entering captchas. After that, no issues.
On both Furtopia and TFF there are hidden adult forums that are accessible by proving your age. Both forums also allow RP in subsections of the forum.
As of now, myself and Aleu belong to both forums, and Butterflygoddess just joined Furtopia.
I'd love to see you in either place. :)

A word on artwork featuring Ruby
Posted 12 years agoGot a note today asking if I was okay...considering I'm uploading some artwork that features my ex-girlfriend's characters, Ruby in particular.
Don't worry guys...I'm doing alright. The reason you're seeing her character a lot is that frankly...most images of BF have her in them too. And since my ex and I are still friends, I'm just basically retagging any non-romantic images of them as just friendship images. I won't be uploading anything overtly romantic between the two.
I mostly just want to get my old images of BF into my gallery rather than just let them sit unseen on a hard drive somewhere. I've healed enough now that I can post these without it hurting.
Once I have income flowing again you'll see newer commissions of BF. Till then I'd like to get the old stuff online for posterity and reference's sake. :)

A fresh start...
Posted 12 years agoNow that the negativity of last week is starting to fade...I must admit that I feel much happier with the new direction I'm taking. With The Furry Forum (the forum most like FAF without the vitriol) back online, and after rejoining Furtopia, things are pretty good.
I'm also happy to have commissioned terrawolfdog for a new reference sheet for BF, and the early sketches are looking very promising. :) I'm also excited to actually have a decent gallery going on on...after this page sat dead for a while and my old account sat dead for years.
Next up will be my attending my first cons, and then Anthrocon next year, potentially with a partial fursuit. Looking into a possible Disney World trip too...its been 9 years since I last went with the old crew...this time Ill be going with a much smaller group, if I go at all, but it's a nice thought at least.
Also feeling much more "me" lately as I've begun to learn to be happy on my own again. I've been single since May and I'm starting to feel pretty content working on myself and doing what makes me happy. It's really nice. The last time I was single was back in 2009...so it's all new for me all over again.
While I'm not looking for anything for a while as I get my life in order...I've met some super awesome people in the fandom lately that give me hope that when I do love again, I can find someone I can trust.
So I'm feeling hopeful and rather content right now. This is rare for me, and I hope to keep this going. :)

terrawolfdog for a new reference sheet for BF, and the early sketches are looking very promising. :) I'm also excited to actually have a decent gallery going on on...after this page sat dead for a while and my old account sat dead for years.Next up will be my attending my first cons, and then Anthrocon next year, potentially with a partial fursuit. Looking into a possible Disney World trip too...its been 9 years since I last went with the old crew...this time Ill be going with a much smaller group, if I go at all, but it's a nice thought at least.
Also feeling much more "me" lately as I've begun to learn to be happy on my own again. I've been single since May and I'm starting to feel pretty content working on myself and doing what makes me happy. It's really nice. The last time I was single was back in 2009...so it's all new for me all over again.
While I'm not looking for anything for a while as I get my life in order...I've met some super awesome people in the fandom lately that give me hope that when I do love again, I can find someone I can trust.
So I'm feeling hopeful and rather content right now. This is rare for me, and I hope to keep this going. :)

I've met some really cool people on FAF...but I've decided its no longer healthy for me to remain on that forum.
Daily...people are ripped apart over silly petty reasons and since January I have continuously stood up to the negative attitudes and sometimes even hatred that the Elder Gods of that forum have had for people who don't view Furry as "strictly a hobby".
I have defended countless people who ended up leaving anyway because the forum felt too hostile to them. I've rebutted countless claims against people who did not deserve the level of judgement they were receiving.
I realize it is a futile effort. There are many good people on that forum...but their voices are shouted down by those who have little tolerance or compassion for anyone with a different point of view.
I've had enough of the place affecting my mood and feeling appalled at the way people are treating each other. So I'm out. Its not my fight and I can't fight it anymore.
No other furry forum is as active as FAF. I will miss the activity and the friends I made there...but enough is enough.
