On a side note, I've been impulsively spending money on commissions and YCHs, so expect to see some more pictures of Nurth and Friss filtering in. That is all. XD

In any case, I'm still kicking, and somewhat isolated from the worst of things, out here here in rural Ontario, Canada. I've had pretty steady work at a job that does mail order stuff, and haven't needed to worry about much direct contact with customers.

I can't believe it's been so long since my last journal. I'm terrible, I know. It seems like a whole different world since the last update. XD

As you might have seen, I've already got a lovely YCH from  CHONKY-SHARK that features my trusty green and yellow dragon -- and officially introduces his name "Nurth". He's having some sheepish heavy fun with a new face -- "Frissura", whose design I recently adopted from  raxrie. They'll no doubt continue to get into initially uncertain but ultimately very fattening antics. :) I've got other potential commissions in the works for these two, so we might see them again soon. :)

And since it's been far too long since any of *my* work has showed up on here, I'm also planning to start uploading.... wait for it....
...a *12-part* sequence, involving a certain salmon-bellied dragon... (A sequence? From *me*? What sorcery is this?!) Stay tuned. XD

Seemed a good time to get new journal to show up on my page. I managed to skip a couple of art updates, and miss some of the obvious "easy journal-writing excuses" like New Years. XD

In recent news, I spent an inordinate amount of time detailing what I suppose is my first self-drawn "full-effort" image of my yellow and green dragon. Still deciding whether he needs a better name than "geek", but that can remain a question for another day. I probably could still use a more well-rounded image reference for the character (since this one is a little too well rounded. :P ) Pretty happy with it in any case.

I still have illusions of short-story writing, and continue to plug away at a hybrid weight-gain/tranformation plot. It's slow going, and expanded in scope (no pun intended) from my original "quick and dirty" short story idea. May it someday see the light of day. I'm a bit overdue for a journal. It was tempting to use "Shinies" as an excuse like so many others, but instead, I'm going to jinx myself by celebrating a couple of milestones early:

With the response from my last couple of submissions, I'm a hair away from having 300 watchers, and within striking distance of 1000 favorites. Could I have predicted this when I started posting semi-actively a little over year ago? No. Not really.

See, I wasn't even sure I'd get more than a couple pictures done, and was honestly worried about getting the wrong kind of attention. That didn't happen. You've all been awesome.

Hopefully I can learn a few new tricks, and continue to show up on your new submission watch list every so often. Thanks so much for following along.

It's not a story, unless you count the Attenborough-style blurb in the description. Which kind of counts.

But I did sort of stumble into a commission for a certain dragon/owl hybrid, and then spend way too much time on it. XD
How did he get me to agree to this, considering I'm not officially doing commissions? Well... the devious jerk managed to make me a fan of his writing, and I ended up liking the idea.

I think it turned out pretty well. Did I mention is kind of fun to draw? It's true. At least, once I figured out how I was going to manage half the visual effects I needed. Stupid feathers. :P

I mentioned a short story in my last journal. Something about transformation and unicorns. Well surprise, that one's on the back burner.

Instead, I've posted a new piece of blob artwork and a short story to go with it. Where did that come from? Well, I finally got around to doing a rough sketch for a tentative commissioner. (No, I'm not officially taking commissions. This person was just really nice about it and left the timing and terms entirely open ended.) So a couple of months go by, I have a pretty early concept ready, go back to my notes to check the reference material, and... discover their account is deactivated everywhere I look.

I failed to track them down again. But I liked the sketch, tossed away most of their concept, and ended up getting invested enough in the picture to make it my own thing.

So if you like immobility, blobs, or introspective action stories with very little actual movement... there might be something there for you. XD

For anyone that might have been keeping track, the Weight Gaming forums have returned from the dead, and the discussion area for my game "Gaining Perspective" has returned as well. I pushed through a bit of a content update in the game in celebration. Let there be rejoicing, etc.

I don't have a lot in the works for posting here at the moment, though I am planning something a little different: A short story about magic, transformation, and at least one unicorn where there wasn't one previously. Stay tuned. :)

I recently came across a story by ADF called The Enchanters Branding. In it, a young man discovers he's among the precious few who can channel a rare, unique and dangerous form of chaos magic -- also called the "Enchanter's Spectrum". The discovery is a bit like winning the lottery -- but while he's effectively set for life, he'll also be isolated and bound to secrecy... and trained to intentionally tap more of this inherently dangerous magic until it inevitably causes side effects -- unpredictable and irreversible forms of "branding". Most Enchanters experience some form of madness. What this man experiences is a tad more difficult to hide... but luckily, just an illusion. A manageable, but increasingly elaborate and awkwardly involuntary illusion....

Transformation has long been another passion of mine -- especially where scales and claws are concerned. This one succeeded in thoroughly piquing my interest. It must have had an impact if it convinced me to start a piece of fan art... because I almost never do.

Hopefully I'll have it ready in a week or two. My art style is "slow and tedious". I take a crappy sketch and massage it in photoshop it until it looks like something. Sometimes it even works. :)

On a different note, my weird weight gain game "Gaining Perspective" has been through an initial wave of bug fixes and general maintenance. Perhaps the biggest new addition has been a much-requested gender selection option (and some new customized related events). If you were put off the the lack of a female character option, or haven't seen this game yet and have a thing for massive fatty adventures, it might be worth checking out.
