Belated happy holidays + owed art schedule update
Posted 11 years agoHappy Holidays everyone! Hopefully all had a good (or at least not bad) passing week!
I was out of town visiting family, and just got back today myself.
I didn't have time to work on artwork while I was away tho (4 year-old kid sisters are demanding and time consuming oh boy) /awkward wheeze
And I will be out all day tomorrow and errand running the day after ughflasd /rubs face
BUT YEAH, by thursday I'll be back on the art horse for sure!
As far as the to-do list for commissions goes, this is about what it looks like/what to expect. I don't think I'm too behind schedule, so I'm fairly certain things will proceed/move along pretty much like I expected in the end. But in case anyone was concerned/interested:
Speedpaint - coracroma (wednesday or thursday.... depending on new years plans? omg hopefully wednesday tho)
waist-up illustration thingy - remma (thur-mon??) -- SKETCHED/FLATS
semi-chibi thing x3 -ebzi, noel, lacha (in downtime between stuff/after monday?; all finished by jan 10th)
I do have a couple of traadde thiinnggsss on my to-do list, which I will be working on and trying to sneak in thru the next couple of weeks, as well!

Posted 11 years agoThis year has been.... well, it's had a lot of ups and downs. I've met a lot of great people! I have so many new friends and I'm so glad for the opportunity to meet and be friends with them now. But... I've also had a lot of unnecessary falling-outs.
2o15 is almost here, and I want to make a fresh start of it.
I want to cast away anything negative with the new year! I want to move forward and be successful and happy, and I want to grow not only as an artist but as a person.
So I wanted to make it official, to anyone who may take the time to read this--
I harbor absolutely no ill-will, problems, or active negativity against anyone as of right friggin now! /slams hand down
Blank slate!
All that stuff is too tiring for me!
Hey, maybe we can't get along as friends, but that doesn't mean we can't happily coexist in the same world, without issue! (Or share friends!) Cuz I don't want to have to scuttle around wasting my time on disliking anyone.
So no matter the past beef, no matter any of the problems that could have been, I forgive and I also apologize. It's all wiped away, and I have no intentions of taking part in any of it again. (Maybe that's a little too optimistic, and I can't guarantee the future, but I would like to sincerely try anyway!)
If this year has been a challenge for you, if there are a lot of things you want to change with the next, please join me in this! Let's let go of past resentments, and focus on what we can do, for ourselves, to make the future brighter and happier! :D

Question about adoptables!

I know how I draw adoptables vs how I draw in general can be very different...
So, would you have more or less interest in my adoptables if they were painted in the style similar to how I do commissions??
It would probably be a little messier as far as details go... cuz painting vs lines?? But maybe it would be more unique and enjoyed by buyers?
I would still do both styles off and on if I did them, of course!
So, thoughts??

If I tried this, don't think there would be a lot of shading, despite it being painted. Like, I'm sure there would be some? But it would be sorta.. painted flats?? Painting instead of providing lines, mostly.

I have been working FOR YEARS on my last laptop, without having any ideas how horribly OFF the colors for it were. And then I just got this new laptop, and everything looked horrible and yellow and none of my characters or art were the right color. I thought the new laptop was messed up and have spent the past day trying to correct it, only to eventually find out my old laptop was riDICULOUSLY OFF INSTEAD. LIKE. MY OLD LAPTOP WAS SO BLUE. I had no idea /cries

the left is what I saw -- the tones were coolish greys and blues, but when I got my new laptop as accurately calibrated as I could, i discovered it was actually yellowish brown and teals?!?!

Posted 11 years agoSo I got my new laptop, and overall it's really great! It's a lot bigger, crisper, and hella ton faster! Windows 8 is a doozy to get used to, but it's not too bad...
There is one thing that is driving me absolutely up the wall, though--the color.
It is completely different on this laptop from my previous one. The default settings-everything was yellow! jlfkdsfd Like. Super yellow. Like things that were grey on my previous laptop were shades of yellow on this one. I tried to calibrate it to be more grey, but it's so hard to get the colors right. Like, when I feel I get the colors more on-point; greys seem more grey, colors seem closer to that of my previous laptop, then the whites start to turn sorta grey/cool.... But if I leave the whites brighter, everything is flippin' yellow!!
And it feels impossible to get the right balance GROANS
I got it as best as I could to what I feel is correct, but it's still like???? What if I calibrated it wrong. I tried doing those test things where gama whatever boxes are supposed to be full grey, and just be barely able to tell whites apart, etc. It definitely helped it, calibrating the colors, but it's still... slightly off....... and it's just like well what is everyone else seeing??? Have I been working in shades of yellow to everyone else? Because even after calibrating things are still slightly yellower than I expected. LIKE ONE Of my characters, which i thought had cooler tones, has all these warm yellow tones on this computer, no matter how well I try to balance it. fRGHRJ:FLS!!!
Which is also frustrating, because now I'm going to compensate and it's just like well now what, it'll look right on this computer but I'll go to the next one and it'll probably be way too blue. /HAIRPULLS
fjklds;fd /just a big rant about how frustrating this is to try and spend hours fixing to only get a partially okay thing I guess
SO I GUESS TL;DR?
There will probably be slight color shifts in how I work. :I;;;

TECHIES OF FA - looking for laptop buying advice?
Posted 11 years agoOkay, I've done a lot of research on my own, and I have it zero'd down to knowing I want an ASUS ROG, but I have two possible options (sorta) in my price range that I'm looking at. One is about 1.2k and the other is 1.5k, and I just want some opinions/advice from anyone more savvy in this stuff to help me decide if the extra money is worth the difference or not.

Help me afford a new laptop!! SPEEDPAINT COMS [closed]
Posted 11 years agoYou may have heard me mention this before, but my laptop is slowly dying on me. It's the reason I haven't streamed in ages, and I've been slowly saving up but it's just getting more and more frustrating and I really just want to make it that final stretch and order a new one!
So I'm going to do a special deal, and offer a handful of flat-rate 1-hour speedpaint commissions to score the remaining cost!
I will be offering 5 here for now, and possibly tomorrow? I'll open 5 more on deviantart. Any left over slots there will be automatically opened up here after a couple of days.
Cost: $70
Time: 1 hour
Examples: [x] [x] - tho both of these clocked at around 1:30, but it's a close approximate of what I can achieve in an hour.
Rules:
- Paypal Only
- 2 chara max (more characters = less detail, keep this in mind)
- These are 'as is' commissions; I want to do these quickly so will not be doing any checks or edits UNLESS I made a mistake (forgot something, messed up an important detail, etc) -- If you forget to specify something, I will not make the change. Please make sure you include everything in your info!
-Please wait until you see my comments for each slot type, before commenting to claim. Claim by replying to the slot you want.
-There will be 5 slots; 2 artist's choice, 2 'snow' themed (like last winter), and 1 buyer's choice*.
-I'm going to post this journal and run, and be back home in a few hours. I'm not sure how many people will be interested, so I'm going to play this a special way: If you want a spot, please reply to the comment for the slot you desire. If there are less than 4 replies for each, I'll just do first come, first serve. If there are more than 4 people wanting a certain slot, I will do a random number generator to determine who gets it.
*for buyer's choice, I won't do porn; nothing above suggestive themes or artistic nudity pls

I will no longer be accepting private AB's.
There are times when it just moves too fast, and everyone comments at the same time. I would like to avoid the trouble of dealing with private ABs and public ABs that happen before I can comment for you.
What's more, I just don't really care for the whole... private thing when it comes to selling adoptables, personally.
I apologize to anyone this change inconveniences. But I've just had confusion and trouble with it in the past, and want to prevent another instance from happening again in the future. 8(;;

I get so tired of having negative emotions like that, of wasting the energy to have things AGAINST people. o<-<
Especially when there is just no solution to it, you know. People are gonna be the way they're gonna be. Some people are just gonna be assholes. Some people just won't get along with you. Some people just don't wANT to get along with you. Etc, etc.
So long as the bad stuff isn't brought up to my front door, I just would rather...... not care? Remain neutral. Be Switzerland.
Cuz I can feel it, you know? When I waste time being upset at people over things they do, when I spend time being ANGRY--it turns me mean. It makes me not want to be the best me I can be to people who I'm upset over. I can feel myself warring with the what I know I should do--how /I/ would want to be treated or dealt with--and with how spiteful I feel. And it's such a... idk, bad? Gross feeling to have. I don't want to ever be identified as a mean person.
I know I'm not perfect, and I know I'm not the nicest. But I also don't wanna be looked at as someone who is an asshole or rude, stuck up, etc. Okay, maybe I am a little stuck up about certain things... But I don't want that to define me. Overall I'd rather be friendly, like 75% approachable at least (laughs), helpful, honest, and continuously remain to treat others how I would like to be treated.
I want to be looked at as someone who is not only a good artist, but also 'pretty alright.'
So I'm just.... I'm letting all the shit go. I'm just gonna pick myself up and move elsewhere. Not care about things I can't fix or don't involve me. Focus on things that are positive and way better and cooler to be a part of.

I'm kinda interested in a few species, and I guess wanted to see if anyone had some up for sale/trade?
I'm specifically looking for kaerokis, longthings, I always will look at purrailles, aaannnddd okay I kinda want a scarftail ngl but fat chance of that one amirite /fffffffffftho I may be able to work out something special if someone had one for trade I guess
I may consider other more popular designs and closed species, too, but those are what I'm mostly after atm.
What I have to offer:
Some pre-made blakryes (which will go up for sale later this week if they don't trade for anything now)
my trade folder -- which I may be willing to offer multiples for depending on what the offer is
money
customs/designs/art -- but I'd prefer NOT to do this atm; so if you're asking for customs or art it better be something good
Anyway, I'm kinda picky?? So even if you have one of what I want I can't guarantee I'll take it if the colors/marking design doesn't fit me fjdlfds

Speedpaint Mini Auction! [closed]
Posted 11 years agoI'm gonna do a quick, 2-hour auction for 3 open-themed speedpaints. One is open-ended; and an hour of work will be added for each $100 mark it hits, the other two are strictly 1 hour, and capped at an AB of $95.
★Speedpaint will be open themed. You can provide a prompt or leave it up to me; I love having artistic freedom! (pg13 limit)
★Speedpaint 1 will be 1+ hour long depending on how high bids get; 2 and 3 will be only 1 hour. I will be timing myself with a special app that only adds to the time counter when I am on SAI and my pen is moving. To get an idea of how much I can get done in an hour, this was clocked at 1 hour 30 minutes using the same app
★Auction will start now and run for ~two hours (ending at around 10:15 PM pacific)
★Paypal Only, whole USD only, payment must be sent within 24 hours of auction ending
★Speedpaints should be done within a day or two after payment is received--a week at the absolute latest
★You may only bid on one of the three slots at a time
★There will be a 5 min snipe guard

Before you ask: No, I am not leaving FA atm and don't really have plans to.
I AM trying to use dA as another source of income in case FA ever goes down or emergencies happen or what have you.
This means I am gonna make an effort to use both FA and dA pretty equally w/ commissions and adoptables.
sO JUST PUTTING IT OUT THERE for those who have a dA and want another means to keep tabs/up with me 8)))
If you don't have a dA or want to make one, no worries; this doesn't affect you at all! ^q^

Posted 11 years agoOkay so I added a bunch more designs to my open for trade folder. A lot of these are older designs I got back during my earlier years of FA. I love a lot of them, but they just don't fit in with my other characters or world now. :(
I'll take designs--or maybe art?? (I have no idea how much I paid for these anymore so I can't really price them)
If you're trading other adopts I prefer things that are more on the human side--aka humans, kemonomimi, or anthros w/ human faces. I am a little picky, though... I won't take a design unless I know I'll be able to offer them a good home. ;w;

About custom blakryes!

At this time, though, I am not offering custom blakryes at a set price.
I will probably offer an auction or two in the future (sometime next month), and otherwise the only time I do them is for trades (or OTAs).
You can TRY to bribe me for one at any time?
But if you're offering designs as a trade to try and get one I am SUPER PICKY w/ adopts I want so I can't guarantee I will accept.
THIS IS OF COURSE totally subject to change and in the future I may offer them for a set price, or do sporadic batches or w/e. This is just talking about this time in my life.
