Artistic burn out, depression, delays
Posted 11 years agoLately I've been mentioning to some of my close friends that I haven't been feeling good, and everyone has been so kind and understanding. It started with not wanting to log into Skype, not wanting to text anyone, not wanting to talk to anybody at all. It worked, because I just kind of buried myself in art.
But then I started feeling burnt out on art. I thought maybe if I pushed through it, my slump would just go away on its own -- but that hasn't happened. Normally doing art is what makes me feel better, but now I'm finding myself kind of spending a lot of time sleeping, unable and unwilling to get out of bed. I don't want to do anything -- draw, read, eat, take care of my pets.. nothing. I've struggled with severely debilitating mental illness since I was 14, so it's nothing new -- I have an appointment to see my doctor on August 1st. But until then I may continue to be a little slow. I'm so sorry for that. I am still working every day on art, but I know it's starting to take a while to get some things done.
If you currently have a commission in progress with me and want to speed things up, feel free to send me a deadline that would work well for you. I tend to work better when given a deadline.
EDIT: Oh heavens, thank you so much for the outpouring of kindness and help. <3 I was almost brought to tears when I saw how many people responded with such nice things. Thank you so much -- so much!

A small pet emergency
Posted 11 years agoIt's nothing tragic, I promise! But I did want to update you guys on what happened, since I know a lot of you are animal lovers and know my Dachshund Andy (the owner of the pawprint I have tattooed on my left wrist).
So today I woke to find that my pup Andy (who turned 6 last month) had a large swollen lump on his neck. We planned to take him to the vet on Monday, but by this evening it was swollen so large that it looked really quite scary. We took him to an emergency vet, where they examined him and determined that it was a large abscess which needed to be lanced and given anti-biotics.
Long story short, I've got to flush the wound of puss and blood every day for a while, as well as administer pain killers and antibiotics every 12 hours. I'm glad it isn't anything too serious, but my poor little guy is pretty obviously miserable.
The day ended up costing us $430 (they had to give him anesthesia before lancing the abscess) -- which luckily we had no problem paying, as we have emergency funds specifically for instances like this. But boy, that was really quite a surprise!
For anyone curious, here's pictures of my little dude. Nothing gory, don't worry. I know some people have weak stomachs for things like that (and I don't blame you)!

And after, passed out and looking sad. ): http://i.imgur.com/GMbvOcq.jpg

Returned from Seattle
Posted 11 years agoAlright guys, I'm back to work! <3 Commissioners can expect updates on their art today and tomorrow, and everyone else can expect fancy new arts in the coming weeks! c:
Seattle was wonderful, but I'm definitely glad to be home. It was pretty exhausting!

Upcoming absence
Posted 11 years agoI will be taking a little over a week off to spend time with my husband's family, who will be flying in from the Netherlands. We haven't seen them in almost three years, so it's a really special occasion!
I won't have internet access or access to Photoshop for most of that time, just so you guys are aware!
Official dates of my absence: May 28th through June 7th.
In the next few days, I will be working extra hard to get art sent out to my commissioners before I leave! (:

Patreon?
Posted 11 years agoHey guys!
I've been seeing a lot of artists opening Patreon accounts. I can be kinda slow to get in on new things, I'm a little old-fashioned at heart. But, I have been a little curious!
- What have your experiences been (either as a Patron or a Creator) with Patreon?
- What has been the best use of it you've seen so far?
- Any artist's Patrons you're following? (I'd like to check them out too!)

10 Rules to Live By
Posted 11 years agoI stumbled across this post on Tumblr the other day, and it really stuck in my mind. I've always had these ideals vaguely in my life, but seeing them written out in such great detail really makes them seem so much easier to grasp.
I thought maybe someone else might benefit from these if I shared them. I did not write them, but every word is certainly part of my daily mantra.
1. Exhibit integrity – A person is said to have integrity if what they say and what they do are rooted in the same set of core values.
2. Don’t speak badly of others – If you speak badly about others to a friend, the chances are you’ll also speak badly about them. Hence, they are likely to be hesitant in what they share with you.
3. Be an optimist – This doesn’t mean burying your head in the sand. It means choosing not to dwell on the negatives, and actively looking for the positives.
4. Make the effort to be helpful – Life is so much sweeter if you’re thoughtful and kind – and we rarely forget someone who’s caring and warm.
5. Set some goals and have some ambition - This is an extremely contagious quality. Not only will you achieve higher goals for yourself, you’ll give hope to others, and inspire them to try.
6. Seek to be compassionate and understanding – All of us face battles and experience hard times. Empathising with others when life is tough helps to ease their burden and renew their inner spark.
7. Believe in, love, and respect yourself - If you don’t accept, respect and love yourself, then you’ll send out vibes that you’re inadequate. However, it you love, believe in and treat yourself well then it’s likely that others will treat you that way, too.
8. Persist until you succeed – Although ambition is important, it is not enough. You have to persevere if you’re going to succeed. So when you stumble or fall down just get up and start again. Then keep on going till you finally succeed.
9. Be open minded and willing to learn - If you’re closed in your thinking and set in your ways then you’ll never discover a different, better way .. and you’ll close yourself off to other possibilities.
10. Take responsibility for your life - Blaming others for your problems, or acting like a victim won’t help you to move forwards, and have the life you want. Take control of your destiny. Success is up to you.

4000 Watchers!
Posted 11 years agoHoly cow! I've officially reached 4k watchers! :D Thank you all so much, I never imagined I would have so many people watching my art! <3
As always, I will be doing a big giveaway, but I'd like to make sure I have all of my other art done first, so it'll be a little late this time. I'll let you guys know when the giveaway starts! It will probably be sometime next month. (:
On another note! I'm planning to offer a permanent 40%-off discount for all clean art for future commissions. I would like to bring focus back to my clean account, as I have been getting a lot of adult art requests. I certainly like doing the adult art, but I do want my primary focus to remain on clean art -- so hopefully a nice big discount will serve as a nice incentive!
Commissions are closed while I finish up my queue, but they will be open at the start of next month, so keep an eye out for that!

Recent delays ... moving house!
Posted 11 years agoFor the last week or two I've been a little slow on responding to notes and sending commission updates, and I like to keep everyone informed, so I thought I'd give a little info as to what's going on.
The long and short of it is, I have to vacate my apartment rather unexpectedly. I'm packing, getting stuff together, touring new apartments, and trying to figure out where the heck I'm going to live. My lease ends next month.
On Sunday my parents offered me a room while I look for a new apartment, so the most stressing part is definitely over with now.
But the last week's been kind of crazy with all of this going on -- and add to that my hubby just started a new job yesterday in another city and we're supposed to be sorting out a visit from his parents in May (they live in The Netherlands, it's going to be quite a trip), I'm a little bit stressy.
Anyway, I'm still working on commissions and I don't see any more issues or delays in the future, but I thought I'd let you guys know what's happening and why I was a little slow. (: Everything should be back on track now, and if you haven't gotten an update in the last couple of days you can expect one in the upcoming days!
On a happier note, I'm getting inked tomorrow! Hooray!

SQUARE CASH -- Commissioners?!
Posted 11 years agoSo I just found out about this. WHAT. You can just directly email money to people? This sounds abso-freakin-lutely amazing.
Anyone have any experiences with it yet? It seems almost too dang easy to be true! I'm going to give it a try, and if all goes well I'm definitely going to suggest my commissioners switch over. No more issues with paypal and adult content ever. No more fees. Can you imagine?!

New Tattoo! (update)
Posted 11 years agoSo for my birthday, my mom is getting me a new tattoo! We're going to go in together and get inked. This tat I'm getting is one I've been wanting for a long time, and I am so super excited! :D
My Doxie Andy is turning 7 this year, and I've been wanting to get his paw print on my forearm. He's been through a lot with me -- I got him when I was 16, and naturally that was a pretty rocky time in my life. I have a lot of scars on my inner arm from past struggles during that time period, and I want his paw print there above them as a constant reminder of what I live for. He helped me through a lot of nights I wasn't sure I was going to make it through. Even when he's gone, his paw print will always be there as a symbol for all the little guys in my life.
And of course he's been through happy times, too! He was there when I met my husband, he flew to Europe with me for 2 years, he attended my wedding (bow tie and all), and now he's here with my husband and I in our first apartment. Lots of amazing memories.
I'm going in for the consultation today; I'm still not sure if I want to get just the paw print, or the bottom of his actual paw. If all goes well, I will have my fresh ink Thursday! <3
UPDATE - So my tattoo artist ended up booking us for next Wednesday, so my mom and I can both get inked at the same time. (: That's gonna be a really cool experience, totally worth the wait!

What do you want to see?
Posted 11 years agoEvery once in a while I like to put my feelers out and see what you guys would like to see me draw more of. c:
So if ever you thought, "Gee, I wish someone would draw x, y, or z!" or "Owlette needs to draw more x, y, or z!" this is the perfect time and place to make it known!
The question's broad and non-specific for a reason, there's no right or wrong answers! Techniques, subjects, kinks, characters, species, objects, settings, etc -- anything at all.

How do you deal with stress?
Posted 11 years agoLong story short, my computer ate a bunch of things today which put me into a fit of insane stress.
Earlier in the day, I happened across a tumblr post (http://tinyurl.com/nxu5oj7) about ways to deal with stress, and thought it was pretty amazing.
So, what do you do when you're stressed? Lend me your ideas, please!

Rainfurrest Funds
Posted 11 years agoI've been saying for a lot of years that I'm going to start showing up at cons, but so far I haven't been able to get there. But this year is the one!
I'm going to RainFurrest this year, and I'm not going to have any excuses! I'm setting up a publicly viewable fund, so there'll be no way to say "but i don't have the money" like I always do when the time comes. >8( Over the next few months, I'll be using commissions to fill it up, I'm sure I can reach my goal by September.
Calculated expenses:
* Hotel: $125/night for a total of $375
* Gas: $50/way for a total of $100
* Food/drinks: $50/person/day for a total of $400
* Registration: $35/person for a total of $70
Total: $945
Let's make it an even $1000 to cover buying crap and small unforseen expenses.
Current funds: $0/1000
Special discounts and sales will be coming up to help raise the funds, once I have my current commission queue cleared (eta for clear queue: March 1st), so keep an eye out. c:

Posted 12 years agoI have a tumblr. C: A friend of mine (
Velexane) introduced me to the joys and wonders of it, and I'm already addicted. I'll be posting lots of random stuff there, including WIPs, sketches, and random doodles.
Also there's an ask box! You know I love random questions.

IMPORTANT: Changing the way I do commissions!
Posted 12 years agoStarting today, I will be leaving my commissions open permanently. A queue will be formed, which means I may not be able to start on your commission for several months, depending on the length of the queue. However, if you would like to purchase an emergency rush, you may add 40% of the commission fee, and I will begin working immediately.
To claim a spot in the queue, please fill out this form! You will not be included in the queue until you've submitted this form! I will confirm with you via your preferred method of communication that you were added to the queue after I receive the completed form. (:
>> Can I buy a commission for someone else?
Absolutely! Just fill out the form with all of the necessary details, and make sure to let me know it's a gift so I don't accidentally spoil the surprise!
>> Where can I see the current queue?
You can view the current queue here! A link to this page can also be found on my main account page.
>> How will this effect current commissioners?
This will not in any way effect current commissions in progress. (: I will continue working on them normally. If you are a current commissioner and would like to remain anonymous on the queue, please let me know ASAP!
>> How big will the queue get?
That remains to be seen! Hopefully it won't get too long. I will be sure to keep monthly markers throughout the queue so that you know roughly when you will be up!
>> When do I pay?
Please don't pay until your turn is up, and I've confirmed that I'll be working on your commission. We'll discuss payment options then. (:
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!
Thank you for working with me as I attempt to refine the commissioning process! Any and all feedback is definitely welcome; it's your opinion that matters!

Thoughts on future commissions...
Posted 12 years agoAfter reading through the comments on the latest BETA update for furaffinity, I started thinking about the way I take commissions and how I could make that a bit better.
Currently, I set up a journal when I have spots available, and remove it when the slots are all taken. The slots are always taken within the hour, which means anyone who just so happened to miss that one hour per month would have missed out on a slot. That's not cool. ):
I'm thinking about maybe starting up a queue, so that anyone who wants a commission can request one at any time, and be added to the queue. This means it's still first-come-first-serve, but nobody would ever miss out.
Obviously a queue would mean you might not know when you'd be up. I could give a rough estimate, but it wouldn't be right away. On the other hand, as I said, it would be much fairer to those who might otherwise miss out.
Thoughts? Ideas? I'd love to hear!
Edit: My hubby recommended adding the possibility to jump to the head of the line by paying a ~40% extra fee. Thoughts on that?

Christmas Wishlist!
Posted 12 years agoI'm not normally the kind of person who asks for things, but I've been seeing this cute little Christmas wishlist thing going around, and I thought I may as well spread the cheer!
Make your own lists and link me in the comments below, so I can check out all of your wishes!
Step 1
Make a post in your journal containing your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple to really big. The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
If you wish for real-life things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where folks could get in touch with you.
Step 2
Surf around other lists to see who has posted their list. If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream for free--do it. You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call. There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special!
Step 3
Make a super fun list and share it with everyone!
My Christmas list:
Physical wishes:
Stuff you can send in the mail! Just let me know if you need my address.
»Kindle Fire (one can dream!) ((GOT IT! WHAAAT??!!))
» Scentsy bars! Cheesecake, cinnamon, and pumpkin are always hits. :3
» Fun kiddy craft stuff! <3 Anything from the kid's crafts aisle, seriously. Glitter pens, crayons, construction paper, foam... anything!
» Candles! Scented ones, plain ones, weird ones... candles! :3
» Dog toys, chews, anything. :3 I have two "Tweenie" Dachshunds (~15 pounds).
» Books. Every kind of book.
Non-physical wishes:
Stuff I'd love, even if you don't have money to spend!
» A new character! I would love to have a new character to draw and love, but I never have time to draw and design things for myself! You don't even have to be an artist, necessarily! The idea is what I'd like. c:
» A review of my art, preferably from past commissioners to fill out my reviews page! <3 Or if you haven't commissioned me, just a nice comment that will make me smile!
» Recommend me some new artists to watch!
» Gift art of Eske or River! <3 Or giftart for my bff
matchcense!
» Stumbled across something cool recently? A website, a game, a band, a weird trick, whatever! I'd love to hear about it!
Mostly, I'd like to see lots of smiles this Christmas. c:

Northwest US Furs wanna meet up?
Posted 12 years agoHey guys! Just wanted to throw this out there, as it's something I've been considering for a while.
I'd really love to meet up with some furs in the area, especially any around eastern Washington or northern Oregon. c:
Anyone maybe want to hang out?
--
For commissioners: If you STILL have not received an update, PLEASE note or email me! It really is not a bother at all! I have a bit too much on my plate right now, and it is possible I've missed someone. So please don't be shy!
