Lord of the Rings
Posted a year agoWell, LOTR sucks now, LOL
Joking a bit. It's just the new LOTR media that sucks. The Peter Jackson trilogy is still fantastic.
Am I surprised? Not really. Just don't get why this keeps happening

Alternative Sites You Can Find Me
Posted a year agoSome alternative sites I'm on if any of you guys are on those/in case Fa kicks the bucket.
https://www.deviantart.com/bardawolf The one I use most other than Furaffinity
https://www.weasyl.com/~bardawolf
Looks like I picked the wrong time to start posting to Weasyl again. Seems like a lot of those I watched stopped posting in 2017 or so. Is that site dead? Cant find active user numbers.
Also was considering making a twitter, but idk, I hate the way that site is set up in regards to posting art. Feel free to give your thoughts.

The Star Wars Prequels Were Good
Posted a year agoI watched episode 3 again to test a dvd player I'm going to sell. And man is it just as good as I remember. There's some pretty substantial flaws, don't get me wrong. Like the CGI didn't age very well. Some of the writing isn't so good, and some of the characters' back stories were a little iffy. But there was so much good there as well. We got tons of world building. The battles felt like they had weight to them. All the new crazy Alien societies Lucas came up with. I cared about this universe and the people living in it. Ewin McGregor's Obiwan. Palpatine and his backstory. Even most of the supporting characters were good.
There's even stuff in the prequels I liked better than the originals(I know, blasphemy).

Live Action VS Animation
Posted a year agoThey keep making live action versions of animated properties. And I don't know of any live action movie/show that was an improvement over the original animation. Lord of the Rings may be the only exception, but it was also never intended for animation. As opposed to something like the Lion King, which doesn't work well outside of animation.
Curious if anyone disagrees, or if you have any animated movies you think were improved by being done in live action.

My Very Last Nerve
Posted a year agoI tell ya, lately its been a real struggle to keep some semblance of happiness. And tonight I'm able to pry myself away from depressing stuff, like current events, and the other nonsense that make me feel helpless and depressed. Find vids on youtube that uplift my spirit, get into an art piece I wanted to do, and feel a rare moment of calm and level headedness. And wouldn't you know it I forget about an item I had cooking and ruin an entire bag of Broccoli. Just completely ruined my mood. And now I'm just angsty and fuming. God, I hate my life.
Between the loneliness, failed attempts at dating. Watching my country fall apart around me, with seemingly no one trying to prevent it. And my God awful sleep schedule that sees most of the day wasted sleeping. And just being a loser sperg who cant socialize worth a damn with anyone under 65. With anyone outside the fandom I try to talk to it just seems like all they care about is sports and celebrities.
Its like I want to do shit with people, like actual active participation stuff. But my attention span is so fucked its hard to sit still and enjoy something.
The only thing I find satisfaction in other than art is my job. And I finish that for the day and just get depressed.
About 50% of my life is like this.

Found Another Good Furry Anime
Posted a year agoCalled "Fuse: Memoirs of the Hunter Girl". Thought it was really good. Was surprised to find almost no fanart for it online.
Art style: Very pretty. Animation was pretty good. Some of the faces kinda bothered me. But otherwise no complaints. Backgrounds and setting were beautiful.
Characters: Honestly not terribly complex, but fine for what the movie was. Also there's a scene at the beginning that I didn't like of something the main character does. Something that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, given her reaction to the same thing later on when other people do it. Plus just didn't like seeing our main lead, who we're supposed to like, doing that. you'll know what I mean if you watch it.
Voice Acting: Honestly Japanese voice acting often grates on me, which is why I prefer dubbed anime over subtitles (I know, shock/horror to the weebs). But didn't mind it in this one. Still would've preferred dubbed, but I don't think this movie was well-known enough in the western world to get a dub.
Setting: This is just down to my preference, but I liked it. The world was a more fantastic interpretation of historical Japan. Something that appeals to me.
Story: Basic, but in a good way. It's a tear jerker though. Felt myself tearing up at parts, and that's rare. In a similar vein to Wolfs Rain, and Wolf Children. Mix in a bit of Inuyasha.

Youtube Continues to Suck
Posted a year agoRecently had a comment get flagged on Youtube, with threat of a strike against my channel. What was the comment? No idea. Why was it flagged? No idea. What video was it on? No idea. None of that was ever told to me. So I go online looking for answers and everyone else has a similar story, with absolutely no way to resolve the issue.
Most annoying though, the only info I was given was that it was on a video in a comedy video playlist I had. A playlist with thousands of videos. Which was summarily deleted. So ended up losing thousands of saved videos. And had to create a new comedy playlist starting from scratch.
Its worth mentioning, this is not my first frustration with Youtube. I was pissed when they stopped showing dislikes, as it was pretty useful for advice and how-to vids. and downright entertaining on insanely unpopular vids that Youtube would push(probably why they removed it).
Before that too they'd deleted a dozen or so channels I followed. Most weren't even particularly offensive. Like middle of the road, with relatively small followings.
And then there's the ads. I remember early on youtube had a pretty inoffensive ad delivery. Usually you had an ad to the side of the vid, and a pop-up ad at the bottom. And neither made any noise. I didn't mind that. started to get annoying with an ad at the beginning or end. Whatever, it was usually short. Like 15 seconds. I get it, company has to make money. Now its like 2 30-second ads at the beginning, end, and at multiple points in between. And Google hasn't been doing a good job spying on me, because they're never relevant ads. Makes it damn near unwatchable. If I didn't have ad block I'd probably not even be able to tolerate youtube.

Trying to Date Again
Posted a year agoBeen trying to date again recently. Was talking to some guy who's convinced the only way to meet girls is either the bar scene or asking out random girls at the grocery store. Convinced that nothing else works. Not great options for anyone who dislikes being around large numbers of strangers, or places with a ton of noise. Way he described it is you go out, fake liking things like drinking "Nobody drinks because they like to". And go up to any girl you see that looks appealing. And if you don't want to do that then you'll be alone forever.
Just got me down. Like I'm 35 now, and going to be past the point where I can have a family soon, something that's very important to me. Mainly I'm very lonely though. Want somebody to live with and care for. Being single is glorified a lot, but really it sucks.

Satire is Dead
Posted a year agoSeriously, when is the last time there has been good satire? SNL hasn't been funny in years. Nor has The Onion. Late night talk shows that used to be comedic are just polarizing political rants now. Where's all the comedy?
Art Trades
Posted a year agoI was curious to see my fursona in the art style of other people. And I'm open to doing art trades with anyone of a comparable skill set. Just looking for any excuse to draw something different really.
A Realization About my Fursona
Posted a year agoI've been trying to think of how I could use him as a character in a story. But here's the thing. He's a self insert and a Gary Stu. Kayko was written as an extension and a better version of myself. And I have a hard time forcing him into situations where he might struggle or lose. I've also gotten lazy in regard to my creativity. and that's one of those things you need to keep sharp. So I'm running low on ideas for things for him to do.
Good Guy Main Characters
Posted a year agoSomething I miss in media is there being a morally good hero character. A lot of media now tends to portray a more morally gray world, and often with both protagonist and antagonist doing bad things. Its part of the reason I could never get into Walking Dead or GOT(despite my love for fantasy settings). Walking Dead in particular gave a very nasty and cynical portrayal of humanity that left me depressed. By contrast Lord of the Rings is one of my favorite pieces of media, and part of that love comes from the way it handles good and evil. There is a clear morality to everything going on in the story.
I don't hate morally gray worlds or characters. I quite like the way they did it in Watchmen. Other media as well that I cant think of atm. I think its a little bit overdone though, and its gotten too cynical for my liking.
Is there morally gray media you guys like? Do you like to have a well-portrayed morality?

Blockbuster
Posted a year agoYou know, its funny, I see a lot of nostalgia for Blockbuster now. But for me Blockbuster was the crappy movie store that put the little mom and pop one I liked out of business. The one I'm nostalgic for was a place called Movie King. That was the one we grew up going to. Had like 3 locations that I knew of. Not as many new release copies as Blockbuster, but a much better selection of movies over all. Also cheaper. Had a VHS movie deal where you got 5 movies for 5 days, for 5 dollars. On top of that the service was friendlier, and unlike Blockbuster there were never system issues and mistakes. Movie King closed their last local store sometime in the early 2000's I want to say. And I think the closest Blockbuster closed in 05 or 06, with the second further away closing in probably like 2010.

Posted a year agoShopping Malls
Posted 2 years agoBeige Hells is what I've started to call them, lol. Minimalism at its finest. My local mall, for instance. Used to be filled with plants, palm trees, red brick floors, and no less than 3 fountains. It was a tropical oasis. All of that is gone now. In its place beige tile floors, empty halls with only the kiosks left in place. Even the benches were reduced heavily in number, to where its a challenge to find one.
Food court was this awesome space with bubble shaped skylights, bright red art deco style chairs, and restaurants clad in multicolored tiles and neon. plus trees, lots of trees. Once again given the minimalism treatment. The new food court they built is a big warehouse type room. Typical corrugated metal ceiling painted white, a few panels put in place to break up the monotony. The wooden furniture at least adds some different tones to give the space warmth. Plant life is almost nonexistent though. You get a few leaf shaped lights and potted plants for your trouble. Also no neon. Just backlit plastic signs.
I want to add, this is not a struggling mall. Always busy.
This fad repeats across other shopping malls as well. King of Prussia, which isn't far from me, is just as miserable on the inside. With even fewer plants and benches if you can believe that. Except replace beige with bright eye piercing white.
There is a local mall I still like, but its dying. I assume that's the only reason it hasn't got the makeover yet.

Diet Changes
Posted 2 years agoMore and more I'm realizing that a lot of my suffering is down to my diet. And in order to feel relatively normal I'm going to have to make further changes. I've already given up soda for the most part. And the few times I've had it since its blocked me up or made me crash. So I'll have to strictly avoid it. Soda was one of the worst things I was consuming on the daily. Damned if I can figure out how people drink multiple energy drinks a day.
Next is giving up most sweets. This is going to be harder. I very much like sweet food, especially if I'm depressed. Sugar is like a drug. Its very hard to kick. And like a drug, in my case it effects my mind. Crashing from it makes me depressed, lethargic. Affects my ability to concentrate, and causes me bad anxiety and mood swings. This is all in tandem with digestion problems it causes. The more messed up my digestive system, the more mental issues I also have. And because of this its detrimental to me getting work done. I don't know how common this is. Would be curious to know if anyone else suffers from these kind of addictions.
My diet now mainly centers around meat, broccoli, and beans. I find that works best for my gut. I have to avoid grains mostly. Have a similar effect on me as sweets do. From what I've heard grain derived products aren't that different from sugar. It's funny looking back, because the American food pyramid has grains at the bottom. But they're one of the worst non-sweet foods we consume on a daily basis.
Oh, dairy too I've mostly had to cut out. Except butter. Butter doesn't bother me. That ones been the hardest cause I love milkshakes.

Five Nights at Freddy's Movie
Posted 2 years agoSaw it with a friend the other night. Last showing. And no joke, I think we were the only ones there besides the two employees in the building. Was very strange. When we left my friend was concerned we were locked in, because all the lights in the lobby had been shut off. Weird stuff.
Anyway, movie was pretty good. No modern politics! LOL, isn't that refreshing! Liked all the characters. Relatively simple story. Costumes and effects looked pretty good. Maybe would've preferred a bit more spooky stuff with the animatronics. I didn't find it too scary. No complaints other than that though.

Haven't Been this Depressed in Awhile
Posted 2 years agoJust having bad depression and anxiety. Specifically in regard to that deep gut feeling of dread. Crashed earlier because I had too many sweets. Also went to a wedding party for my brother and felt totally alienated. Not from anything they did, to be clear. The people there were nothing but nice. Just not used to socializing anymore. Family stopped doing much large events since the lockdown, and just never started doing stuff again. Dunno what happened.
Got in an Argument
Posted 2 years agoWent to a restaurant for a sandwich. And usually after I buy food at this place I like to park in an area towards the back of the shopping center near the woods and eat. Just so happens there is a Jiffy Lube there as well though. I've parked there dozens of times in the past few years. For context its in a back corner far from the building, and in the same shopping center as the restaurant. But today I'm almost immediately approached by a really rough looking dude. Initially thought he was a homeless guy who was gonna ask for money tbh. First thing he says in a very aggressive manner is "Can't park here". I say "What?". He says "you can't park here. Jiffy Lube employee parking only". I look around for any signs I might have missed, and there are none. I say "There's no signs though". He says "I don't care, you can't park here". I'm already in a touchy mood, which is unfortunately the norm these days. and unfortunately when I'm like that it doesn't take much to set me off, so I give him the finger. He takes a pic of my license plate and threatens to call the cops. I pull out of the space and start to leave. As I'm leaving I get in a heated argument with him and two other employees. Then leave.
Felt really bad about it. When I got home I called and apologized. Told them to have a good day.
To be clear I believe I was in the wrong. Just wish the dude hadn't been so aggressive

New Building Going Up
Posted 2 years agoI tell ya, long as I live I'll never understand why people build things the way they do in the modern age. Theres a piece of county land near my house. Until recently a small court building, a prison, and a police station stood on it. One day driving by I see everything has been torn down. I think whatever, not a huge loss. Oldest building was the prison built in the 1920s, a relatively plain brick building 3 stories tall. Police station was built in the 1980s, another brick building, modernist style. Always thought it was kinda ugly. Court building looked like 1990s era suburban type colonial architecture. Also not very pretty.
The whole plan was to build a brand new police station on the site. I knew I'd hate whatever they built, but man, nothing ever prepares me for this stuff. The architectural drawing is a big gray-blue box, with several other gray-blue box add-ons. Massive stockade fence around the rear. Likely white vinyl or sheet metal. Minimalist modern, the bane of my existence. All artificial materials. No concern for fitting into the surrounding area. No ties to local culture. An everywhere building. And I gotta see the damn thing every day for the immediate future.
What's wild is most people hate this sort of architecture. Polls on architecture websites will show a 70%-80% preference for more traditional styles. Ask people irl and that number is more like 90%. It's not a cost thing either. Often the traditional style alternative is cheaper.
As a little tidbit, here is another building that once stood on the property, albeit further down the road. Wish I'd had the opportunity to see it, but was torn down in the 1980s before I was born http://www.delawaredd.org/N1/pages/.....are%201910.htm
