I'm bored, so...game reviews
Posted 15 years agoI feel like I should post a journal, but I don't know what to talk about, so here are some games I've been playing and what I think about them.
Super Meat Boy:
Fantastic platformer! You control a bloody cube of meat and navigate each level as fast as possible in order to rescue your girlfriend, Bandage Girl, from the clutches of Dr. Fetus (who is a fetus in a jar). Plenty of secrets and collectibles, retro warp zones and characters to unlock. The game is very difficult, but if you like that kind of thing, you can't go wrong with picking it up on XBL or PC.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent:
This is a survival horror game from the makers of the Penumbra series (which are also fantastic). This is survival horror done right. You're exploring an old castle in which something terrible happened that you were involved in. However, you have amnesia and left yourself a series of clues to piece together. You have no weapons and no way to defend yourself. You are only equipped with a lantern to light up the darkness, which has a limited supply of oil. Staying in the light will make it easier for monsters to spot you, but staying in the dark chips away at your sanity, making it much harder to tell what is real. This is easily one of the most terrifying games I have ever played.
Puzzle Quest:
While this is not a very new game, I picked it up for next to nothing during the Steam holiday sale. Do you like Bejeweled? Basically, it's Bejeweled with RPG elements thrown in. Match three gems to get mana to power spells and EXP to level up abilities. Deal damage and defeat enemies. Simple concept, but a fun game. Definitely listen to your own music in the background though, as the game's music gets tedious very quickly.
I picked up a few more games, but they aren't noteworthy enough to mention here.

Sonic 4
Posted 15 years agoI am disappoint. Get your shitty platforming out of my Sonic game.
I think this review about sums it up for me.

A sigh of relief
Posted 15 years agoI'm finally home from MFF/Thanksgiving. I can't even tell you how good it's going to feel to climb into my own bed tonight and cuddle up with my girl. Getting through the last week was hugely stressful, but it's over now and I don't think I could have asked for a better outcome. I got to meet my girlfriend's parents and some of her extended family. I was worried that most of them were too concerned with the circumstances that led me to be in the position I'm in and that I wouldn't get a chance to show them who I really am. I'm very pleased to say that I was wrong. Her family was very accepting of me and made me feel welcome in their homes. I'm glad that everyone was able to put aside their differences and come together for the holiday. I got a lot of outside perspective this week and it's nice to know that I am not blamed for any of the mess that I ended up in so many months ago. I can move forward with my head held high.
So wow, MFF...
Posted 15 years agoThis con continues to be one of my favorites year after year. It always makes itself worth the 12 hour drive it takes to get there. I spent some time in the artist's alley sewing tails and selling them. I just want to take a moment to say thanks to anyone who came by and bought something or just stopped by to chat / say hello. I also want to say thanks to
voodoowolf and co. I won the raffle for the copic markers and that pretty much made my weekend. It was a tame con by most standards and I didn't fursuit or party at all, but I still had a lot of fun meeting people and exploring. Now I get to spend Thanksgiving trying to minimize awkwardness, but it's going ok so far.

Posted 15 years ago...and I'm not afraid to say it. I don't like posting personal stuff on here, but I'll make an exception for you. You make me happier than I've ever been and I want to give you the world. I love you,
spix.
spix.Dokapon "I'm going to stab you in the face" Kingdom
Posted 15 years agoDo you have friends? Do you not want to have them anymore? If so, you should gather them up and play Dokapon Kingdom. It's just like Mario Party but 20 hours long and it hates you.
Back to normal
Posted 15 years agoWell, it's been a fun couple of weeks. Anthrocon went off mostly without a hitch. I forgot my cell phone at my apartment and that caused a few moments of panic when the guy I was supposed to room with decided the night before that he wasn't coming anymore after I had paid in advance. After freaking out about that, I checked my voicemail from someone else's phone and had a message from the guy saying he had given me a refund, so all was well.
Spent a lot of time in the dealer's den looking at stuff I couldn't afford and hanging out with
spix, who made it into artist's alley on Sunday and got her first commissions ever. :)
Headed out Monday morning after getting some delicious and bizarre donuts from Fernando's (the bacon doughnut was strangely delicious). Instead of heading home, had to head even farther into PA on my favorite of all roads...the PA turnpike. :-/
Visited some family for a few days and then finally got to head home again on Wednesday, expecting to just have a few days to relax before going back to work on Sunday.
Instead, Friday rolled around and I was feeling pretty weird. By the time Saturday came, I was curled up on my couch, shivering violently with a fever of 103.5 and I stayed sick until the next Wednesday. I'm calling it con crud, which will be the first time I've had it in a couple years. Either way, I'm feeling much better now and tomorrow should be the start of a normal week. Yay!

Sunburn
Posted 15 years agoI have one. Not a bad one though. My fault for going hiking and forgetting to wear sunblock. Now I'm going to make a turkey sandwich and play video games because I'm hungry and tired.
Oh, and I'll be at Anthrocon next week. Fun times.

FCN
Posted 15 years agoI'm just going to sum it up and say that I probably had the best weekend ever. Wait, no...not probably.
Busy, busy...
Posted 15 years agoRecent happenings: Spring break was over way, way too fast. I got to see Jonathan Coulton open a concert for They Might Be Giants and it was awesome.
Upcoming stuff: The next month is going to be ridiculous. I've quit WoW for the time being and will be focusing my free time on picking up extra shifts at work, making various furry craftables and trying to get ahead on my homework for C++ so that I don't go nuts. Speaking of nuts...
FWA is in two weeks. I will be there from Thursday until Sunday afternoon. Say hello.
Two weeks after that is FCN. I will be there also. I'm pretty sure doing two cons inside of a month may very well kill me, but I'm going to give it a try and hope for the best.

MFF!
Posted 16 years agoSo, been a bit quiet on the journal here, but I will be at MFF next week. I'll be arriving late on Thursday and leaving Monday morning. I will hopefully have a bunch of ears and tails to sell, so look for me in the Artist's Alley at some point over the weekend and buy stuff!
Anthrocon Recap
Posted 16 years agoSo, this is a little late, but I figure I need to pester everyone with stuff that nobody is going to read. :)
Well then...let's see:
Wednesday
Made some final touches on my new tail and waited for Drake. He arrived around 7pm and we set off into the wild. The drive was pretty uneventful, barring the incredible amounts of road construction that seemed to be everywhere, especially in PA. We reached MattRat's a little after midnight and we were asleep by 2. I couldn't sleep due to allergies and sat in a chair most of the night until 7am when pancakes were made by some kindly Canadian furs.
Thursday
After pancakes and some visiting and chatting, we departed for the con. After a somewhat frightening drive through Pittsburgh, we made it safely to the hotel, parked and checked in. I forgot to pre-reg like an idiot, so I got in the reg line with the rest of my carpool buddies and waited in line from 1:45 until almost 4. Dinner was had at Cory's, across the street from the hotel. Had a few drinks after that and went fursuiting, ending up at the dance and meeting some pretty cool people.
Friday
Slept late, missed opening ceremonies, spent most of the day gallivanting around in fursuit and meeting random friends that I hadn't seen in forever. Planned to attend the dance, but then other issues cropped up concerning people drinking to much and delaying me for a few hours. Eventually made it to the dance and met more awesome people, danced until 2am and then ended up in the lobby, talking to some random folks that had come in off the street to see what was going on. I ended up convincing them to come back the next day and register.
Saturday
Fursuit parade. Afterwards, I felt absolutely dead. Didn't help that I seem to have picked up a mild case of food poisoning or something. All I know is that I didn't get to do very much Saturday. Ended my night sipping water in the hotel restaurant and talking to friends.
Sunday
Bought far more than I should have in the dealer den and spent a lot of time with
dusty-waber. Sunday night brought the tradition of drinking a lot, but ended early when someone got taken away in an ambulance. All was well in the morning, but it added undue stress to the evening and I ended up going to bed fairly early.
Monday
Woke up at 10, packed, said my goodbyes and hauled out of Pittsburgh at noon or so. Leaving Pittsburgh seemed to be fairly difficult and we got turned around by detour after detour. Eventually, we escaped and made it back to Virginia around 8pm.
In summary, AC this year was a pretty good con for me, minus a bit of unnecessary drama. It's still not off the chopping block for me as far as cons go, but it's making headway. Overall, I still think it's a little too big. It gets to be daunting when trying to visit and catch up with so many people in so little time. It's entirely possible to run into someone once and then never see them again the entire con or not even see them at all. In any case, it's earned another shot next year.
TLDR - AC is fun. I'm a fox. Ice cream.

Anthrocon
Posted 16 years agoSo, as I wait for the next two days of work to crawl by, I figure I will lay out my plans for AC. I'll be arriving in the Pittsburgh area on Wednesday night and will head to the con early Thursday. I'll be in the main hotel and I'll be staying until Monday around noon. If you would like my cell number to hang out, comment or note me. Please don't be creepy.
I'm leaving the fandom...
Posted 16 years agoOk, so I just put frosting on a Ritz cracker and it was fucking delicious. Also, I'm not leaving the fandom.
Lame con was lame...
Posted 16 years agoLuckily, LameCon ended Thursday night and FCN more than made up for it in awesomness. There is no LameCon, of course, but I'm using that to refer to everything that happened up until the con that tried to prevent me from going such as losing all of my roommates and carpoolers at the last minute for various reasons. Anyway, I left my apartment on Thursday at around noon and had a rather uneventful 9 hour drive to Michigan, stopping twice for gas, food and caffeine. I arrived at the hotel at around 9:30pm, found my roommate for the night (ended up with some Canadian furs from the message board) and said hi to some familiar faces. I was tired from the drive and was in bed early around midnight. Friday morning I woke up at 8 to the arrival of one of the other furs staying in the room. The meeting was fairly awkward. I'm not going into the details here, but it just was. I picked up my badge, went fursuiting for a bit, went to a panel, caught up with friends and ate dinner in the con suite. At night, I hug out in the staff lounge for a while and shared stories about the creepy furs that have come into our lives. I also learned an amazing term from Giza. That term is "20 minute dog fucker." The funny part about this is that I knew exactly what he meant when he said it without him needing to explain. For those of you that don't get it, this term references the furs that will talk to you online for 20 minutes and before that 20 minutes is up, they're sharing stories about how much they like to sex up their dogs. It's sad that I've had enough of those to understand that perfectly. Needless to say, I'm adopting the term.
Saturday brought more suiting, a little bit of drama, a lot of laziness on my part and that's about it. I polished off the rum I had brought and had fun at the dance for the rest of the night. Sunday was odd because I had to check out of one room and wait until 3 to check in with my second reservation. In the meantime, I decided to do some suiting, so I changed in the headless lounge. I participated in the fursuit games, checked into my room and then went to change out of suit. At this point, I noticed something missing from my stuff. It seems like someone decided they liked my FWA t-shirt and wandered off with it. So, whoever did that...lame. Really now. After that, I got to have a delightful, shirtless romp through the hotel and out into the parking lot to get my clothes and a new shirt. Nobody seemed to know it was me and the consensus was that it was kind of bad-ass, so whatever. On Sunday night, I took gross advantage of the free beer and chatted with Wag and some others and finished off the night by suiting at the dance. I also continued my Sunday night con tradition of being horribly molested on the dance floor. I'll live though.
On Monday, I said my goodbyes and departed the hotel at 11am. My drive home was pretty scary and involved a truck loaded with pallets that weren't secured properly and so once in a while there would be a pallet in the middle of the highway that I had to swerve around. Eventually I caught up to the truck and managed to get past it without getting a pallet through my windshield, though I did have to swerve around another one. I also saw a school bus painted with flames and covered in barbed wire with the words "Meat Puppet" stencilled on the side. My final observation on the trip home is that the state of Ohio is constantly under construction.
I definitely had a great time at this con and I hope I get to make it again next year.

Shoddy FWA rundown
Posted 16 years agoThursday:
Got up at 5 and worked half a shift. Got out of work at 10, went home, finished packing and rolled out with Stephy around noon. The drive was pretty uneventful and we got to the hotel at around 7. Found some friends, bought liquor, commenced drinking.
Friday:
I don't know. Stuff happened. Atlanta scares me. I went to lunch with
pog and his parents along with Wag, Tristan and Skan. Afterwards, a homeless man tried to sell us a DVD. Fursuiting happened, followed by more drinking and fursuiting. I got to hang out with
glowsheep for a bit and met her friend
lixa, who turned out really cool.
Saturday:
Not much to mention here except the fursuit photos, which are posted on my FA. Also, the parade happened, which was rather poorly executed, in my opinion. Got to talk to Lixa a bit more. Also ran into
Drakien and went out to dinner with him and his friends. More drinking was had and I went to 2's rant and then the dance. Also got to talk to
painteddog for a while, but not buy anything because I suck. :(
Sunday:
I attended a panel on tail making and learned a few tips, but most of it I already knew. Most everyone I knew left in the afternoon, but I still ran into a few cool people: Metalfox, who sold me my Wii last year and
renardfoxx, who is just a really nice guy and a pretty awesome artist.
Monday:
I woke up at 9am, packed and was ready to go at 10. Stephy's car battery died because the light got left on and we had to find some friendly furries with jumper cables to help us out. I didn't get any of your names, but if you are reading this, thank you so much! The drive back was again, uneventful except for the usual joy of driving in Atlanta traffic. I hate this city.
I really need to do these sooner if I'm going to do one because otherwise I forget everything I did and you get these patchy bits. Ah well, nobody cares anyway. :P

Convention Plans
Posted 17 years agoEvidently that part about me having a full rundown of MFF was a lie. To sum it up. drank a lot, suited a lot and volunteered enough hours to go for free next year. Now then, upcoming cons:
FWA 09: I will be attending as long as nothing comes up in the meantime. FWA is one of the more expensive cons due to its location, but it was a fun con and I hope I can make it again.
FCN 09: Looks like I'll be going to this one as well and looks like its going to be dirt cheap as far as room and gas goes.
AC 09: Even though I didn't have that great a time at AC last year, I think it's some kind of requirement that you attend AC, so I should be there.
MFF 09: I'm staying in Virginia for now, so it looks like I'll be making this one as well...at least I hope so because it's my favorite.
Well, those are the plans. These plans are subject to change.

Posted 17 years agoI just want to say that MFF was a blast this year and I really enjoyed meeting some new people and getting to see some old faces. I'll post some sort of summary at some point, but in the meantime, I'm requesting pictures from anyone who has them of me either in or out of suit.
