A Champion has been Crowned!
Posted 12 years agoThe tournament has ended, and Lockjaw is the champion of the tournament! Congratulations to the champion!
A short comic and a story will be developed for the ending of the tournament, but this will take some time. It will be awhile before our next tournament, but we will do our best to take what we've learned from this tournament and use it in our next one. For now, keep an eye on us. We'll have more news in the following weeks.

A message from the artist
Posted 12 years agoHey everyone,
tibex here. I want to, personally, apologize for every late tournament here. As of late, I've been extremely busy, especially in the past couple of weeks as I had to reconstruct some parts of my home as seen here. It wasn't my intention to be as tardy as I have been, and I am terribly terribly sorry for submitting these as late as I have been.
However, everything at home has been squared away and things on my end will run a great deal quicker and smoother.

Apologies for the delay.
Posted 12 years agoWe sincerely apologize for the delay, but due to complications beyond our control, the next match may have to wait until tomorrow.
Arena Numbers
Posted 12 years agoThis is just to clarify how arenas are chosen, the last digit in the submission number of the current match will decide the arena for the next match.
0 = Undergeound Colosseum
1 = Pirate Ship
2 = Treetop Village
3 = A City At War
4 = Giant Sky Dragon
5 = Volcanic Cavern
6 = Pyramid of Ra
7 = Ocean Floor
8 = Nightmare Castle
9 = Cyber World
For example, the current match, Immelmann versus Yamato, has the submission number 10286208, meaning the next match, Chaos versus Intoxicator, will be Nightmare Castle.
If the same digit appears twice in a row or in the match fter, the second to last digit will be chosen instead.

Muffled Speech Option
Posted 12 years agoFor everyone in the tournament, if you'd like to have your character say some sort of muffled speech (i.e. "Mmmph! Grmmph!"), or have Thorn say something to your character once they get tubed, please enter what you want Thorn or your character to say or be thinking in a speech bubble.
Clarification on Rules
Posted 12 years agoA couple rules were left out from the match before it began, so we thought we'd go ahead and make them clear.
Elemental Stage Bonus
As you may have noticed, every contestant has an element. These elements are just some added bonuses to make the match more interesting and heated. Some stages will penalize certain elements while other stages will benefit those very same elements! As with everything else, it's all the luck of the draw. We did our best to ensure that every element had a stage it was strong on and every element had a stage where it was lacking. Alas, the poor Giant Sky Dragon has no one to feel at home atop his back. Regardless, the stage bonuses are as follow:
Pyramid of Ra - Light elements are immune.
Nightmare Castle - Dark elements are immune.
Cyber World - Lightning elements will only swap stats out that'll cause theirs to increase.
Volcanic Cavern - Fire elements are immune.
Treetop Village - Wood elements are immune.
City at War - No elemental advantage to this stage.
Underground Coliseum - Earth elements are immune.
Pirate Ship - Neutral elements increase their Awareness to match their Speed if Speed is higher, or add a point to either Speed or Awareness if the two are equal already. They aren't immune to ringout though.
Ocean Floor - Water elements are immune.
Giant Sky Dragon - Wind characters are immune to status drops, but not from ringouts or jumping/flying restrictions.
Movement Impairing Effects
As Mr Onyx brought to our attention in his thorough fight analysis (thank you for noticing the oversight), there are several movement impairing effects that you may take into account when determining a winner.
Flinch: Causes a brief interruption in basic fighting pattern. A version of the flinch strong normal attacks may grant, but not left up to chance. Flinching your opponent is determined by your power vs their endurance. A higher power and a low endurance increases the chance that you will flinch your opponent.
Root: Holds a character in place but doesn't make them unable to use attacks that use arms, mind, magic, or tails. Just feet are unusable. Teleport and other self-moving specials are negated for the period the victim is caught.
Immobilize: Completely immobilizes the victim, preventing the affected character from reacting to anything for a period of time. Passives, HoT, and DoT still tick. Very limited timespan.
Most of these are pretty concrete and self explanitory.
Thank you very much for your time and patience with all of the bureaucratic red tape. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact a committee member. Most of them don't bite.

A word on cheating.
Posted 12 years agoSomething that needs to be said right now, we do not approve of advertising (aka posting journals or anything with the link to a match, sending isntant messages to others asking you to vote for you or sending others the link to a match). If you are caught doing this and you vlte, your vote will not be counted, and any competitor caught cheating will have half of their characters votes discounted.
Almost ready to begin! Questions?
Posted 12 years agoOkay, to everyone watching and waiting, we are very sorry for the delay. However, the tournament will begin this week. I mentioned previously I'd try to start it by the end of March, but this week it will definitely start. A day after the Introductory picture for the tournament is submitted to the gallery. The tournament's first match will begin. If you have any questions or anything you'd like to know about the tournament, such as how to vote during matches and such, please ask them here, and we will answer them either here or in the description of the intro pic for the tournament.
Also, new committee member!

diamonddragonCommittee Update
Posted 12 years agoUnfortunately, due to some complications,
sonicality is no longer an active member of the committee. Because of this, we have added a new member to the committee;
tibex. He will be handling creating each match for the tournament. And because he's new to the committee, we will unfortunately have to set the tournament back for at least another week. At the moment, we're discussing a new set date, and we apologize for this inconvenience. When we have a new date set for the start of the tournament, we will annonce it in another journal.

Posted 12 years agoThe submission deadline for those invited to Zephyr's Tournament has passed, and we have a finished roster!
Regrettably, due to cancellations from some of the invitees, we did need to fill two spaces with characters of committee members from the previous tournament. However, the other entries are all new battle art!
Interestingly enough - and this is a total accident - exactly half of the roster is new fighters, while the other half is returning combatants. Go figure!
Characters will be posted once their abilities are reviewed, balanced, and finalized.

DEADLINES AND START TIME - PLUS GLOSSARY!
Posted 12 years agoFirst of all, please disregard the previous journal. We apologize for any confusion it created and the haste with which it was posted. It has since been deleted and has no bearing on actual events.
Now, for the final set of dates, as proposed by
onyxtanuki, the schedule will proceed as such:
*Those invited to Zephyr's Tournament have until 11:59 PM EST, February 28th to submit their finished character artwork (both poses), stats, a draft of their ability (this can be somewhat rough), and a short 1-3 paragraph description of their character's personality and reasons for accepting the invitation to the tournament (use the descriptions from the posted fighters as a guide).
*If the full roster of 16 is not filled by then, for the purposes of making the roster work the empty slots will be filled with committee members' previous characters using the same artwork as Damian's Tournament.
*The next week will be spent finalizing abilities (in collaboration with the character owners) and finishing story and artwork for the event. If the abilities are not finalized due to the absence of the character owner, the committee reserves the right to balance and finalize the ability on their own on March 6th.
*The tournament will begin with the posting of a short intro story and the first match on March 7th!

UPDATES
Posted 13 years agoWith the final round of Damian's tournament going up in a few days at
bogrim's page, now is as good a time as any for a very overdue update!
In case it's not obvious by now, due to some delays in Damian's tournament, the slow pace of incoming character artwork for our event, and other considerations, Zephyr's tournament has been delayed until January or February of 2013. We will work to have it begin as soon as possible.
All of the arenas are finished and will be posted shortly barring more revisions that may come up. We have two new combatants with finished art whose abilities are in the final stages of review, and they will be posted shortly. We also have one new combatant with a finished ability and art well in progress. We are still waiting on many more combatants and will post them as they are completed and sent to us.
Behind the scenes, the committee members (spearheaded in this effort by
cyran) have been working on a new glossary of terms to help explain the battle system, which will be posted on the event blog and linked to here once it is complete. This includes an explanation of specific effects that can be included in character abilities. To go with this new glossary, we have been reviewing combatant's abilities to make sure they are balanced through a 5-point system. This means most of the existing abilities posted on the page will be revised, and may cause a delay in the posting of new combatants. We are doing our best to make this a quality event and are uncomfortable with rushing through systems or abilities which may not be optimal, so we apologize for the delay and ask for your understanding.
____________
About the next, open tournament: Admission will be capped to a certain number of characters, but it will not be first-come, first-serve. There will be a period of time during and after Zephyr's tournament in which submissions will be open. Barring any quality concerns in the character (poor or nonexistent summary, unbalanceable ability, improper stats), all submitted entries will be assigned a number based on order of receipt. If more submissions are received than there are places in the tournament roster, those who will not be included will be selected randomly through Random.org or a similar service. So that people do not waste time or money on art for a character that does not get in, initial submissions will only require the name, stats, ability, and summary/description of your character. There will be a period to obtain artwork after the selected entrants are announced. If someone in the roster must drop out before the tournament begins, their spot will be offered to a randomly selected member of the group that did not get in. We have not yet decided on a final size for the roster, but 48 and 64 are two numbers we've been throwing around, and the final roster will probably not be too far off.
Although doubles matches will not exist in Zephyr's tournament, the committee is currently discussing whether or not they will be included in the open tournament. Feedback is welcomed on this matter, although having doubles will likely not increase the final size of the roster by much if at all.
Any further feedback or questions are, as always, welcomed.

Intro and FAQ
Posted 13 years agoAfter the dust settles from Damian's Tournament and the winner is announced, a new tournament will take up its legacy and continue on - Zephyr's Tournament, the first installment in the next generation of the event!
Zephyr's Tournament continues the tradition of combat in exotic arenas between a diverse mix of skilled fighters. 16 combatants - including familiar faces from Damian's Tournament, characters of select famous FA members, some entirely new creations, and a very special returning combatant from the very first tournament - will duke it out on a selection of 10 brand-new arenas for 15 matches of intense combat where you decide the winner. And it's all a test run for a brand new mega-tournament event in which YOU could walk away victorious!
Check out the FAQ below - and remember to check back in regularly here and on our blog for updates, as new stages, systems, characters, and news will be posted regularly!
Q: If Bogrim's not running this, who is?
A: Zephyr's Tournament is a collaborative effort run by a committee of FA users - Sarathebarricade, Cyran, Sonicality, OnyxTanuki, and DiamondDragon. Bogrim is contributing input and may be doing some graphics for the event.
Q: Can I join as a fighter?
A: Unfortunately, because Zephyr's Tournament is a promotion/test run for a bigger tournament to come, entry was limited to 16 slots and by invitation only. All slots have been filled. However, the tournament immediately following it will have open entry!
Q: Can I join as a committee member?
A: We are not looking for additional committee members at this time. However, suggestions, questions, and concerns are more than welcome! Please direct any communication of this sort at the event's official FA page through a shout or note.
Q: Will matches still be decided by vote?
A: Yes! To maintain the interactivity and fun of the tournament and stay true to the event's spirit, the winner of each match will be decided by vote. However, as before, this is supplemented by a statistics-based battle system to properly inform voters. Votes should be for who you think would win the match, not just who is sexier or a better friend. That said, we cannot read minds - it is up to the audience to maintain proper voting etiquette.
Q: Will I be able to vote on matches?
A: Absolutely! As with the previous tournaments, voting is open to anyone with a FurAffinity account.
Q: Are there any changes to the stat system from Damian's Tournament?
A: Yes. The core stats of Power, Speed, Awareness, and Endurance are still the main factors, ranked 1-3, and each combatant still has one special ability of their own design to use in battle. However, Zephyr's Tournament will mark the introduction of a new Element system that will add a new layer of depth to character creation and matches!
Q: What are the elements and how do they work?
A: The elements are explained in detail in this blog post!
Q: Will there still be stage effects?
A: Not only will there be stage effects, but most stages also include a special effect that benefits the users of a particular element that matches the stage. Each element has one stage that provides it with a benefit in order to ensure balance.
Q: When will the stages be posted?
A: The stage descriptions and effects have been completed, but the artwork is still currently in-progress. A new stage will be posted on our FA page every other day until we catch up with the artwork completed thus far - then they will be posted as ready.
Q: When will the characters be posted?
A: Characters will be posted on this blog as they are completed.
Q: Will everyone still end up captured in bondage?
A: But of course~
