Im in mah hose makin chain mal
Posted 16 years agoI'm currently working on producing a chain mail shirt out of galvanized steel.
The rings are 3/8ths made with 16 gauge wire.
This first suit is being made with some standard pliers, so there is some ring marring. Its not made by the techniques of old either, unless of course they had such steel back then and dremal tools. Tomorrow I'm going to do a bunch of work on it, mostly today was getting the winding rig and such set up.

Game Pre-Review: Dark Sector
Posted 16 years agoBeing bored the other day i decided to pick a cheap game off the steam game line up. One that i found that had been reviewed well previously and interested me was Dark Sector.
In this game you play a secret agent who gets infected by the evil genius's super virus thingy slowly gaining special powers while transforming that make us wonder.. Why do evil geniuses always do these sorts of things. (See Sin Episode 1) Because you know theses powers unlock just in time to beat the evil guys plans.
Overall the game is quite graphically solid. Some minor clipping issues here and there. But one of my biggest complaint as far as graphics go.. the lack of blood decals. There is a shit load of blood spilling everywhere as you hack off arms, heads, legs and torsos of your unfortunate foes but unlike Left 4 Dead when someone gets kill by a witch you never really have time to think.. OH shit that's a lot of blood. Over all though, a very minor complaint. The other complaint i have is the blur effects when you turn your head. If the game was in First person I probably wouldn't mind it as much As i could still probably see through it. But a flick of the mouse and you go flying and shooting at only god knows what.
Sound is also quite good. Guns sound like they do damage unlike some previous games i played where the sound is all muffled and they sound more like cork guns. (Soldier Front) Though there are somethings i wish for the sound is that some troops make more of a noise. Specifically the troops that are carrying a huge shield that is impervious to all bullets and has to be struck with your boomerang thingy and then your pistol.
Oh yeah, before i get on to my biggest complaint about the game as a whole, lets talk about the Glaive. This boomerang thingy is your main focus of all your powers. Initially you get to only throw it. But it eventually becomes your flashlight and your key. Power thowing allows you to get past big gates with lots of chains, or open chests with lots of chains. It also allows you to kill targets in one hit. It does some Legend of Zelda stuff, allowing you to pick up objects or activate switches you cannot reach manually. Then it allows you to control it in sort of a fly by wire way. There are more powers, but i haven't gotten to them yet.
My biggest complaint? Controls. The game plays like Gears of War so much so I was having some flash backs to when i sucked horribly (playing GoW for the first time). However this does not Translate well into keyboard/mouse. Ctrl is your sprint, defense and roll button. You hold Z to pick up items, tapping it reloads. C is the button you use to throw the glaive, and mind you, the glaive is ultimately your main weapon.
The after touch (fly by wire) becomes highly sparatic. Sometimes it will go off, some times it will not. Sometimes you can make a very hard sharp turn, other times its a wide looping turn. Its bloody difficult to control, and not in a good way. Often times the character will actually shoot the thing you are hiding behind with both the glaive and his gun, though your targeting thing is clearly away from it. This becomes dangerous and annoying when you are using a rocket launcher to kill the big bad robotanks.
Ultimatly i'd give it a 6/10 thus far. Possibly lower. Its good clean action fun, but those controls bog it down to a bloody mess.. or actually a bloodless mess :(

This weeks art assignment: and picture requestment!
Posted 16 years agoso here is the speel on this weeks assignment.
Draw a person from real life.
Then draw extra parts on that person. They must look as if they are really attached to the person and part of them.
And put this person in a place
This means that you cannot, say replace their head with a goats head. But you can put horns, and goat ears (as long as the original ears are there) onto them.
So I'm looking for someone who has a photo of them doing something cool in some place that i can use for the assignment.

Game Review: Disgaea DS
Posted 16 years agoOne of the other things I'm going to start doing is reviewing video games. Generally there is an initial review, followed by a hindsight review some time later.
Disgaea DS is one of the latest ports of Disgaea, which originally came out for the PS2. It featured a charming and witty cast of demons, angels and humans, and often gave you the "bad guy" view on things. One of the big jokes in it is that you are not trying to stop an overlord from enslaving people, but you are in fact working your way back up to being said overlord.
Now, Disgaea DS, beyond some non-core changes, is exactly the same as Disgaea. One of the most notable changes is the loss of voice during most of the cut scenes. It is however in the the chapter cut scenes, and at least in the beginning of the game. Then there is a prinny that appears on the top screen saying things behind the main characters back. A few other new features include a music shop, wi-fi, touch screen control, the catalog and the new overhead map.
Graphically, it is very old school. Each character and attack is nothing more than a sprite on the screen. No fancy bit shaded bloom 3d renders ultimately making have a more happy feeling without being overly childish.
Sound wise, the scenes that do have voice acting, its clear and believable. The music continues to add to the happy feeling and still not be childish. I do not know however if they have kept the Tsunami Bomb song in the game. It does however get a little meh when you have several of the same job types in play and each are attacking in a row. (Only so many times you can listen them them crackle their evil laughter in rapid succession)
Overall, I'd say Disgaea was a perfect game. You could spend very little time and just burn through it no problem, or you could go heavy into it getting more and more powerful and destroy even more foes. Hopefully Disgaea DS is similar, as it seems to be so far.
I'd say if you have a DS get the the DS version over the PS2 version, especially if you have friends with DS's. But of course there is something special about both of them.

New projects
Posted 16 years agohere is a idea of some of the new projects i'm going to develop here..
Playing cards - I'm going to make a basic deck of 52 diffrent cards, possibly even different characters.
This project is going to be a little while before it really begins. The suits are changed as well, Spear replaces spade, Skull replaces Clubs. As of currently the other two are nothing changed yet.
The style is going to be sort of tarot style, with the number created in the card, as well as the number of items appearing in the card.
For instance the 4 of spears will be a character in the Hanging Man possition with 4 spears jammed through him.
Magic the Gathering cards - These are still coming. As I or other people complete the artwork for them, I'll place them up on here. I will also put the WIP of cards i'm painting.
However i do still need some help in designing cards, as long as they are balanced i'd accept any idea. Once the first set hit 300+ cards we will start to have some votes on what cards make it. (cards that don't will be up for additional sets.)
Character profiles - For my stories will start to come onto the site as well.
Lastly, Concept art for the games i'm working on.
First one i think is going on the table for this is Dark Banishing.

Huge Gallery Clean up
Posted 16 years agoThis message will self destruct in 1 week.
I'm currently going though and deleting everything from my account. Not to worry, all of it will be stored into a rar.
My goal is to start making a slightly more professional account here.. but soon i'll open up my dirty account.
Biggest problem i have is that i have to go through each picture 1 by 1, download it, then back back back and remove it. Honestly FA needs some better controls.
Also this does mean that sexual art will be removed from my favs and re-added on my naughty account.
