[Games] Who's excited for Star Citizen?
Posted 11 years agoCustomizable multi-crewed ships. Ambitious developers who want to push what a space game can be. $48 million in crowdfunding. Yeah, it's time to talk Star Citizen again.
Obviously, there's some pretty cool stuff going for it, but where it's really shining is building communities. Space is really big and rich with possibilities--and dangers. You don't want to leave orbit without a wingman or at least a friendly ear on the radio. That's Fuzzball Enterprises wants to offer--a place where you can find mature friends (of the furry variety) to help you tame the void and find profits among the stars.
Since I last wrote about Fuzzball Enterprises a year ago, things have been pretty crazy for us. With over a hundred official members and dozens of prospects, we've been averaging one or two new faces each week since our inception. Since January we've had three meetups at different conventions across the country, as well as a chat channel which is usually active all hours of the day and night.
I know to some of you it may seem excessive or silly to form a gaming group a year or three before it ships. However, I'm delighted to say that as a result of the organization we've been building, I personally have developed friendships with a number of awesome people and reconnected more strongly with some old acquaintances too. I know I'm not the only one who has been discovering new friends in Fuzzball Enterprises. We're so enthused by the camaraderie that we're taking serious steps to set up larger annual meetups once our house is done (oh right, we're getting a house built with FBE in mind) and have already started having smaller local meetups for space games (Artemis!) and to practice our party skills. Seriously, it's been a great beacon to rally around.
So, who else stoked for some space exploration, combat and trading?

Posted 12 years agoA final apology to people who have seen my previous journals and simply not cared!
To all others, if you like sci-fi, space, flight combat sims, economy simulators, Freelancer, Wing Commander, or EVE... if you haven't already, I recommend you immediately look into Star Citizen. When I say immediately I mean within the next couple hours, before one of the signup perks expires.
It's a space sandbox simulator. You get a ship, grab some friends, and seek fortune and glory among the stars. Gorgeous details? First-person controls? Oculus Rift (VR headset) support? What more could you want? If you haven't yet seen it, watch the little AI skirmish below, understanding that this video is 9 months old and the game has been under heavy development since...
If that looks interesting, again, I highly recommend you check out the Star Citizen description page I linked above. If that sounds like something you want, register before midnight Pacific Time tonight (meaning the division between Saturday and Sunday). Why? Because your starter ship, and any ships you buy over the next few months, will have Lifetime Insurance on them (you won't need to spend money, in-game or otherwise, to keep your ships insured in case of theft or destruction... saves you money in-game!). You can still sign up after midnight, you just won't get the Lifetime Insurance perk
Once you've done that, totally head over to Fuzzball Enterprises and apply to our guild. We've got almost 40 furries who have applied (not all show up on the site quite yet) and we're always open to more people. The site is under development, both in style and function, so don't take its current state as an example of where we want to be. It will get better. We will get organized. Help us conquer the motherfucking stars.

[Games] Star Citizen guild. Who likes SPACE COMBAT?!
Posted 12 years agoFor those who saw my previous post, skip the next paragraph. Then keep reading. I promise this isn't just a repost!
Open-ended multiplayer space game without monthly fees. Combat. Trading. Exploration. Any of that sound interesting? If so, take a look at Star Citizen. And when you're done, come apply to my guild ;3
Still poking at the FA community to try and find mature furries who are interested in space games, specifically Star Citizen, and who might be interested in joining the Fuzzball Enterprises guild. It's never too early to start planning these things, especially with the Lifetime Insurance cutoff date rapidly approaching.
The past couple weeks have been pretty busy for Star Citizen-related stuff. The next couple weeks will probably be similar!
* On Friday, there was the 300-series reveal which was pretty slick. I think they're gonna sell a lot of those ships.
* On Saturday, I started setting up a guild website. It's too rough to share right now, but it's progressing nicely. It will have all sorts of neat things :D
* This upcoming Friday is the 24 hour livestream, lots of game details being released, reveal of the Avenger, hopefully a new issue of Jumpoint
* The next Friday is the cutoff for Lifetime Insurance. If you don't want to worry about keeping your ships ensured, sign up by this date!
Also, in the past few weeks, we've expanded beyond Fuzzball Trade Consortium (commerce and manufacturing) and Fuzzball Escort Services (escort and mercenary work). We now have Fuzzball Expedition Charter (exploration and resourcing).
As I said, haven't finished the guild site yet, but when I do I'll post it here for public applications. If you want in before that, PM me and I'll send you the application form :D We're up to 21 people now!

[Me] How to not improve your standing in Twile's mind
Posted 13 years ago1. Ignore Twile for 2 years.
2. Message Twile out of the blue and ask him if he knows any local furs who are into footpaws.
3. Listen as Twile calls you out for breaking a 2 year silence not with "How have you been?" but a hunt for local fuckbuddies (or perhaps just people to share nonsexual fetishy encounters with).
4. Take such offense at Twile's "uncalled for and disrespectful" observation that you notify him it'll be more than 2 years before he hears from you again.
5. Storm off.
Learn from example. Don't behave like the guy who just did the above.
Also nameless person, if you're reading this, I bear you no ill will. You're welcome to contact me at your leisure, and I welcome friendly conversation with you. Just please understand that even furry social protocol dictates that you exchange a few friendly, personal IMs before asking someone for information or a favor, especially if you haven't talked in years.
Seriously guys, I try to be pretty reasonable and approachable. I list my contact info. I welcome people who come with things to talk about. I freely admit that I don't IM people until they've become regulars and talking to them is a habit... mostly because my chat program lists the people I talk to most often at the top of my list. I'm not sure what else people expect me to do, beyond dropping the things I do during my limited free time so I can squeeze a few more IMs in here and there.
Edit: Going to sleep now so don't expect me to reply until tomorrow evening z.z

[Misc] Star Trek: The Next Generation Blu-ray
Posted 13 years agoIf you're following me on Google+ this won't be news to you, but if not, here's a fun little thing that you might not be aware of.
Star Trek: The Next Generation is comin' to Blu-ray. It was first announced in September 2011. The first season comes out on Tuesday, July 24th 2012 (so 2 days from now), there's talk that Season 2 will be out before the year is over, and they're trying to have all 7 seasons out in the next ~3 years.
The first question one might have is "Why?" Ignoring the cynical argument 25th anniversary is a great excuse to re-release something to squeeze some extra money out of it, why put TNG on Blu-ray?
TNG was shot on 35 mm film. They recorded a lot more detail than home viewers have ever been able to enjoy. In remastering TNG, they went back to the original camera negatives and scanned them in at a high resolution to capture all those lost details--the texture of clothing and props, all the details in their models and makeup, everything that makes HD worthwhile in modern films. It also gave them vastly better colors than we've ever seen for TNG--whether you've seen it on TV, DVD or streaming online we've all been subject to washed out colors, color and light bleeding, etc. This is because they put everything together on videotape, which pretty much butchered everything. To demonstrate, check out these comparisons: Worf in SD and HD, Picard vs Q in SD and HD. That's not even at full resolution, and already there's a visible difference in detail and a massively visible difference in color quality.
Because the visual effects were composited in SD on video, and the VFX elements were shot in SD, they generally had to be redone entirely from scratch. This was, for years, the commonly-accepted reason for why we would never see a TNG Blu-ray: they'd have to remake all the VFX, and that would be expensive. Although they did it for Star Trek: The Original Series, TNG has more than twice as many episodes and many more VFX per episode. The goal in redoing the VFX was to stay honest to the original intent, and from what I've seen in the sampler disc and reviews of Season 1, they've been true to that goal and done the series justice. This whole effort has been overseen by Denise and Michael Okuda (they've been working on the shows since the 80s) so perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that it's turning out great.
Of course they redid the audio mix too, a lossless 7.1 mix which is supposed to be pretty fantastic and engrossing. And they've got lots of special features, most of which are in HD, including a cast reunion (glad to see that they're all still doing well :D). But let's be honest, the real star here are the updated visuals.
For those who are interested, the price for Season 1 just recently dropped to $60 on Amazon. Other places might have better prices, I couldn't tell you because I love getting Blu-rays on release day with free shipping n.n
I'm sure there a lot of you out there who don't think that this helps you very much because you don't have Blu-ray players, or perhaps don't even have particularly high-def screens. The good news for you is that we can expect this new HD master to be used as the source for upcoming streaming releases (Netflix has TNG available for streaming, I imagine they'll start using this version before long) and TV broadcasts. Although I can't say if there are plans to issue new DVD releases of TNG, I'd all but guarantee that if they do make them they'll use this updated master as well :D
Obviously, having written this journal, I'm pretty psyched. Although I wasn't old enough to enjoy TNG during its initial broadcast, I certainly enjoyed reruns I caught on TV, and I've rewatched the entire series probably 3 times in the past 7 years. And as big of a TNG fan as I am, I'm even more of an HD fan; I love richly detailed, high-bitrate video files more than a person should.
So join in celebrating with me the union of TNG and HD <3

[Furry] 150k pageviews and my first "character theft"
Posted 13 years agoFirst the quick and dirty, I hit 150k pageviews! Stopped paying attention to that stuff a long time ago, but hey, it's still a cool number :3
Now for the more amusing topic. I've had my first case of "character theft".
I put it in quotes because the profile mentions that he isn't the original Twile creator (who is, obviously, me) and that he'll delete the profile if I want him to.
But I don't want him to, so don't you all go hounding him to delete it. I find it flattering but mostly entertaining.
You see, I've never really come up with any elaborate backstory for my character. Frankly, it wouldn't much impact things, most people wouldn't pay attention to it, and it would almost definitely sound cliche. So hearing somebody else run through character history, personality and preferences in their own words is... amusing.
The profile in question, for those who want to be entertained: http://rp.aryion.com/profile/Twile_drago
And not to steal any of this guy's thunder and attention, but if you want the real deal, you know exactly where to find me ;3 *sprawl*

[Furry] What's up with Stream commissions...
Posted 13 years agoWhat's up with Stream commissions taking precedence over regular ones? :/
Not gonna name names, but I've got one person who I commissioned a good while ago and he's been taking on new commissions and completing them in Ustream or whatever. I guess it's a good way to earn a quick buck, but seriously, what gives?
Seems to be part of a larger problem with artists who do commissions hugely out of order. It's a problem I've had in the past and generally been pretty lenient about. But what the fuck... you take full payment from me, then run off and do business with other people instead?
I don't want to ask for a refund because A) I want the art and B) I know he can be pressed for money at times, but... what am I supposed to do in a situation like this?
