Needed to know if those MicroShaftSoft Surface Pros are sufficient for art?

Been seeing the prices on many dropping to around $100 (used), so is in a budget range now.
Would also ironically be better since the nervousness itself in having expensive equipment increases my chance of accidentally'ing stuff (is one of the reasons had to avoid graphics tablets).

Preliminary research suggests a Pro version 4 or 5 might be best for my range (but at least 8GB RAM).
In general, the Pro 8 seems the most recommended but that's too new for my budget.
I'm aware the 4 (& 5 to a lesser degree) are known to have some issues like being too-high-rez(makes text & icons tiny), occasional sleep issues & false menu triggering issues if held vertically.
But I'm poor so I can't be too picky.
*This also might help alleviate the issue with most modern art software refusing to install (on my Win7 machine)(?)
*ALSO - for others considering, it seems the Surface Pros are only so-so for Pro-Artists, their recommendations tend to favor special elite ipads & other things I never heard of for professional use.

Battery;
Would like to know if they can be used without the battery?
Looking it up suggests they use AC adapters but nothing clear on if only recharges or can power it.
I don't trust Li-ion batteries, especially since everything around here is prone to corrosion..
Though I'd might try to rig up some power capacitance like a series of NiMh batteries that could fit, obviously just for short-term uses if unplugged (like power outages), but gotta do more research like make sure the recharging system wont reject that, minimal amperage needed, etc.

Can WiFi be disabled?;
Security concern, aside from people saying things like their devices getting bricked due to auto-updates, Don't like the idea of everything having mics & cams on them - such creeps me out.

UPDATE;
Seems all the versions, at least 8 & below are literally glued together (looked up internals).
Makes repairs & battery issues too much of a problem, so screw that.
Would have to look into alternatives that can be maintained (if any).

Anyway, took forever, but found almost 70% of the items needed for now so far..
But I'm so out of practice it took 3 weeks to find stuff..

Need help to continue, cant do much if I go without food, heating & such.
Put alot of effort into trying to improve things, but things keep getting that much worse.

Been severely sacrificing the food budget for months, skipping meals and getting by mostly on cheap crap like noodles, and the suspiciously cheap dollar store cereals are making me feel worse.
I'm not sure how many know what it is like but it makes it difficult to focus and not pass out, and already have problems there.
And if cant afford to keep the indoor heat above 40f means hands stay numb & purple & bleed.
And I somehow need to save up around 1k to get through winter.
RL income is limited & unstable - is only about half the minimal needed to even live (is why not well).

I know others having problems too but this doesnt mean I need only a few big $$ helps, several people tossing in a few bucks helps too.
(a pity it cant be as simple as $1 per watcher then I'd be able to recover for 2 years in one shot, ugh)

Upset because as soon as I get a major computer problem out of the way, looks like I wont be able to do anything creative without this help.

I've been near futily asking for help - but far more importantly there's probably going to be a lot of people needing help soon, on the east coast US, and (I think) the Philippines and maybe some in Japan, on top of that there's lots more hurricanes & cyclones churning around out there still..

If people could come up with helpful advice to those hit by flooding & storm damage, and donate to credible charities & furs you know affected (as in definitely provably make sure they are whom were hurt by events) then please do.
I know what it's like (although at a lesser level (a few weak tornadoes, minor floods, wind damage, etc before)) so some vulnerable people might end up loosing alot if people stop caring at these times.

I don't have much advice to contribute aside from;

If flood damage, best to wash out the mud & use diluted bleach to help prevent mold growth, BUT DON'T MIX WITH SOAP (toxic fumes).
If have forewarning, move important things upstairs into closets or rooms away from windows, though a middle floor if have would be better in case the roof gets torn off, else could try putting in rain proof containers or wrapping up there.
BUT then should take the most important things (like ID's, copy of important files, photos, etc) and leave, like a preemptive vacation.
(contrary to news advice, I'd recommend waiting until near the last day since looters might try to rob people that left early, just use secondary but not isolated roads to avoid highway jams)
THOUGH, reality, I know personally that not all people can afford to go anywhere, please respect that, they're the ones that did not choose any of this.

People should stock up on non-perishable food & supplies, batteries, (generators & satellite internet are great but typically have to be well-off to afford those).
It's not a waste if you treat this stuff as a rotating pantry stock, as in periodically using & replacing them.

People should note that batteries hold far less power than most people think, like a car battery can only run a microwave for around a half hour, a PC for maybe 4 hours, etc.
And of course smaller batteries are far less in capacity (like a watt each)
In these cases, laptops & small compressed gas stove units are good (I have the later, it is useful at those times)
My case is I just have those batteries left from failed UPS & a 120v power inverter to power things for a bit during power outages.

In general seems the furry community has been away & distracted alot the last few months.
I'm not sure why, and FA seems to be losing activity even more so. =/

But that isn't all that's worrying.

I haven't been doing well, been getting sick alot more than usual, so I stepped up getting some treatment.. which helps some but not surprisingly bit me in the ass.

I'm having no luck finding clear answers(or I somehow forgot), and I need to know what I'm getting into before I use up the win7 license..
Does Windows 7 (OEM) allow changing the boards hardware(specifically the CPU, RAM or GPU card)?
And Importantly have any of you done that without lapsing the licensing thing?

I remember that WinXP allowed changing 2 hardware components per restart and would typically tolerate changing the board as long as it had the same bridge type.
I wasn't aware of this being a problem until years ago when I had to salvage an older computer, (upgraded the board & CPU but kept that OS with the drive)
Then it did that '3-day reactivation or else' countdown, though surprising that it booted on different hardware XD
So I was stuck with installing a "five finger discount" WinXP DL version for some months until I could figure out all the damaged parts on my main PC.

Really don't want to have a prob when I test out spare parts and add redundant RAM & drives..

I keep remembering why some of my project pics have been incomplete & shelved, often lack of troubleshooting feedback and info to finish them off.

Surprisingly I know little real life info on animal reproductive anatomy.
Like I got the basics of some things (like seems most mammals don't have vesicles (unlike humans), but peen-bones, etc.)
But little to no details like anatomy schematic images, breeding info details like cycles, fertility rates, copulation frequency, gestation times, part sizes, maturation age, etc.
Alot of the little I did find was wildly conflicting info.

I'd figure there might be plenty of furries with far more detailed knowledge, hur.

Because there's various details I need to be able to finish enhanced but practical data on various furry characters & their species, need hard data to be able to form plausible anthro hybrid features.

*For now, more detail on males is preferred.
*also just sticking to common furry species to base them on for now, like foxes, cats, wolves, rabbits, etc.
*But do need info on what the best performing species are.
*I DON'T need pointless videos of animals boinking (trying to make atheistic equipment, not hideous).

Yeah I asked this in December but that didn't go so well. I have to guess too many people had problems then too.

This was supposed to be my chance to finally replace this decade old machine, I can't do that until I have enough of my problems out of the way for a bit, so I desperately need some donations/tips and opinions on good but cheap PC parts for a decent build.

The last year I was only getting enough help and finding enough extra odd jobs to maintain this one and barely keep my online service on. I got some of the new parts already but they're now being used to keep this old one running (power supply, backup drive, replaced monitor).

I doubt I can fix this old one much anymore and the performance is continuing to worsen..
Literally wasting most of my art time waiting on system stallouts.
Been a long cold winter again so I'm still 300 behind on bills, so I gotta deal that to start getting my hands on enough parts.
I can't simply take more commissions yet because I still owe a few and it's taking forever on this POS.

I've narrowed down the options to likely a 2011 era machine -
~dual core with integrated GPU, mid level upgradable parts board, about 4GB DDR3 RAM, etc.
Then I gotta get another tablet & monitor since I have no spares.
Could still use some opinions on which specific ones would be best for cheap, might have to get them used.

I can't just buy or order a whole machine for aggravating reasons I'm sick of explaining, it's just a bad idea to attempt again. So piece by piece I have to collect gradually.

Some small sustained help is really needed too, even if just tiny bits, being about $100 behind every month is a source of much of my problems..
It's become apparent I've been more productive in the past when I wasn't so stressed out.

Today;
Another drive seems to be failing, had trouble restarting, had to remove all the other drives and swap cables and try a few times.
The boot screen showed a SMART drive error but not for which.
I was almost done making new backups and was finally getting back to drawing and then this.
I already lost a drive last time, I can't spare another.

A good chance I'd have a new PC built by now if someone else would've helped when I asked, the usual 3 friends barely were enough to replace one drive last summer and stay online.
But of course there were lots of other problems keeping me busy lately too, so this misery will never end it seems.

I can't take this right now.

Just letting you know if I'm away for good, you know why.

I know it's probably a bad time but I still really need to catch up on bills so I can build a new PC, I can't keep repairing this thing, it's almost a decade old and causing lots of complications. >_<

A few months ago 2 people helped some, it was enough to repair this and replace a couple drives so I can back-up data again and be able to move them to a new PC. But I need more parts to construct a better one.

Answers to likely questions:

I preferred the old days when money wasn't a problem, but my hobbies like drawing cost me time and money now. I can't continue without occasional help.

Everything I make IRL goes to bills, and that's often insufficient.. thank you ISP monopolies.

Doing as many commissions as I can but this machine literally stalls out most of the time and I cramp my hands alot fixing errors in pics because I'm not really that efficient at art.

Contrary to popular belief people tend not to donate much, on average I've been getting about 30 a month total, but was in clusters like about a hundred total 2 or 3 times a year, though recently someone has been helping with some of the emergencies & medical issues so it's been increasing, but fallout from problems I couldn't fix are increasing too..
I can't put all that stress on one person.

I seem to fall behind twice a year and I know it's pathetic, but I'm maxed out. I can't simply take up more extra odd jobs that don't exist and the ones I can get interfere with art.
Plus there's nothing else to cut , I haven't bought myself a gift in several years, food budget is less than minimal, and I have several other important things that need repair but couldn't.

One has been helping but that forces me to choose between bills, medical treatment and emergencies, there's no safety zone.

Mail service out here is crap so I tend to have to monitor & catch shipments since they fuck up 60% of the time, including damage. (so I sometimes get them at a store instead)
Plus can't accept new expensive gifts because some certain landlord-like relatives can force me to sell them (again).

Some hours ago a several ton meteor hit Russia, mostly exploded and vaporized in mid air but just the sonic boom did lots of property damage and left a huge dust cloud. (News on damage still incomplete)

Though these smaller meteors causing a show every few years are common, this one is odd for happening right as a fairly massive one is now barely missing hitting earth.

But my point is, US congress will still probably spend practically no money on asteroid defense, but they sure are happy to blow almost a trillion per year on military pork that mostly is wasted on swindler companies and useless toys in the last 12 years! :D

Hopefully getting very near the time useless idiot or corrupt politicians & CEO's can be fired or arrested?

Other lesser news: PC has been an annoying malfunction factory again, getting back to drawing now, supposing shit lets me for once >_<.

Just seen a Depends diapers for men commercial on TV.. for sports players (like football players).

Okay I can understand that some people might actually need such things but that was such a bad presentation..

Here comes all the Merry Xmas BS journals.
But not this one.
Haven't had a Christmas that wasn't extremely depressing since the late 90's.

My "present" for this year is getting screwed by the internet provider and possibly cut off again soon.
All these commissions - tried to save enough to get at least an important part for the PC & maybe one used Ps2.
But no. Yet again new service fees and events destroyed that and more.

Family used to be somewhat wealthy, but now most have trouble even keeping their car running, nobody has been able to buy anyone a gift in many years.

But I feel a strange comfort in knowing a lot more people live the same shit since the new millennium.
You don't know until you live with such unrelenting stress and disappointment.

Still working on commissions, next journal should be an update on that.
As of now 3 to finish but probably taking more after these, if I'm still here.
Forced to keep going because companies love charging people fees for being broke!

After all this time I still haven't recovered and here comes a winter that might not be as kind as the last.
Winter savings got obliterated by the hot summer.

So I gotta ask for tips, donations, and commissions..
Simple commissions probably staying open for a few weeks But I REALLY need some considerable donations very soon too first because the bills fell behind >_<
(and well, can't maintain commishes if online service or electric gets cut)

I know, asked help for a couple other winters too, but I just plain don't make enough to fully cover the atrocious winter heating costs these days.
The only other option is to move in with people that would give me no privacy (then no art period) and drive me nuts.

Income has been gradually shrinking, used to have hundreds to spare a month, but now gaining over $200 a month in debt.
Budget is already bare-bones, as in haven't bought things like games in years.
Been doing commissions as much as possible but that is only pulling in around half of what I need.
Note that I tended to draw a lot more back when the budget wasn't so stressed.

Even a few smaller offers would be appreciated.

Since I was like 10, I've always dreamed of having some portable device that could run videos, games, television, programs, whatever.
Many years ago I did have one of those tiny portable flat screen TVs, but it burnt out, 'wuda surprise.
Also too embarrassing to be seen with a falling apart GBA and three games left whoo~.
But the point is something that can do most or all of those things.

I've fallen so behind the times I don't know or even have used practically all of the portable devices that exist now.
So I wanted to at least ask what would've been possible.
I've heard about people hacking/rooting/modifying/whatever things like cameras, phones, and those driving assistance screen things that allegedly exist to do (non-subscriptioned) stuff like run PC programs and/or act like media players.
So whom among you have?
And, what and how? (ideally cheap expendable items since would be pointless to do that to something that costs as much as a laptop)

No, I'm not hinting for gifts. Don't be a dumbass, I literally can't accept anything (see below).
If some weird ass fluke finally happens and some RL friend or relatives wants to junk such things I might try to do that or something.
If not, at least it would be nice to know what was out there.

Also, something is wrong..
Events kept forcing me to ask for commissions and tips to stay on top of gradually increasing costs (phone, internet, electric, equipment repairs, etc.).
Even with NO discretionary spending in years, this has maybe somehow made things worse.

Of course, this is how it works;
Literally work myself sick doing tons of extra odd jobs + art commissions + ask for tips. Save up a few hundred.
Look for deals to get as much of items like (in time order) Zelda TP/Metriod Prime 2/PS2/DS/best AGP card/Wii/new PC/planB(get used laptop)/replace NES/old cheap games/replace more failing & maxed out drives.

OOPS, no, PC fried/ emergency room visits$$$$/ weeks of extreme cold or hot weather adds hundreds to bills/ storm damage (repeatedly) / something else breaks/ etc.
Never fails. And to top it off it often cuts deep into the food budget.

Got some replacement parts out of all that though at least ( and sonic riders, but that was a mistake)


And no I can't accept gifts.
Delivery services are so terrible out here they've literally lost or damaged most of the things I've ordered, & often required me to find what they did with them.
Can't generally trust relatives to accept them either.

Money gifts, hah.
There was to my surprise some very helpful friends, which did help me buy some time and parts to keep this antique barely running.
I'm thankful but take a wild guess where most went. BILLS, DEBTS, MORE SHIT BREAKING DOWN(again&again&again IT NEVER FUCKING ENDS).
But now many of them are in need and I can't do shit to return the help. =/
So that makes me feel like dirt.

And this, I have to draw garbage for a few bucks just so I can stick around to draw more garbage.

At least learn from me, I used to be fairly well off years ago, even once had plenty of cash and resources to get ready for college (goals were arts, tech, programming).
But then this crap started picking away at it, then lost health coverage - skills and abilities gradually went with it, credit destroyed trying to fix that mess (that was also when banks decided to hike interest to like 40% for the hell of it).
Then relatives stole the rest.
And I still haven't even told you more than a fraction of the garbage that happened.

5+ years of this constant misery (& other occasional chunks of hell well before).

In short, being online is one of the things hurting me.

So maybe the answer soon is to give up, not do what I want or need to anymore since all I do is get punished for trying.

Now, this was originally just going to be about me ranting at why the slowdown..
Still working on drawings, just rotating too many things to do, but everyone gloating about getting games and other fun anythings keeps reminding me I had nothing new at all for years.
So I'll continue to be scarce for a few more weeks.
I can't stand even talking to people like this, so gotta avoid them to hold on to what little ambition I have left.
