So happy holidays everyone, whichever you may celebrate. And if you don't, I hope you can get away from all the hubbub and have a couple quiet days. That's what I'm aiming for.

I always feel a bit odd about making these... It never feels right to make a "Yo, celebrate me!" journal. But then again, when something otherwise good happens to me, I do let people know, and my birthday usually qualifies as something good.

Nothing really interesting to report. DnD campaign is still going. Not sure how much longer, to be honest. I'm running out of ideas. And also, kinda, steam. Been running DnD fairly consistently for... 6 or 7 years now. And maybe it is enough. I also started a Hc Svnt Dracones campaign and a bi-monthly Soulbound campaign. I think both are going reasonably well, although I've definitely been messing things up a bit in HSD.

Outside of RPGs... I might be getting declared disabled for psychological reasons. Not sure on the terminology here, but it has something to do with being long-term unemployed. Would take a lot of pressure off my shoulders. Might even lead to a sort of partial early retirement.

Been struggling with a mean cold since October. As anyone who has been in a voice chat with me can confirm, I'm coughing a LOT :P

Anyway, I'm rambling.

But yeah, I'm 44. Yay me!

A couple of weeks... well, really months ago by now, my friend  kittybird had a stroke. It was quite sudden, and we were all shocked (she's in the DnD game I'm running, so that's what I mean with "we"). Her recovery is going well, but unfortunately isn't cheap. I don't generally do a new year journal. Usually just my happy holidays one, which I consider good enough. It's not like many people will see these anyway.

Neither have I the tendency to get intro and retrospective. But I thought I'd try it.

Honestly... 2023 wasn't great. Not many standout things happened. And those that did weren't good. A very good friend of mine died unexpectedly in March. I'm still unemployed and have pretty much lost all hope of ever changing that. And it appears that I have asthma. On the bright side, despite some rough patches the DnD game I'm running is still going strong. I was told keeping a weekly game going for several years is an accomplishment, so I'm trying to be proud of that. Great Ghost in the Machine knows there is very little about me to be proud of.

But enough moping. As I post this there's 5 minutes left to 2023 for me. I'm gonna lay back, eat a bag of Takis and try to ignore all the noise outside.

So, happy new year, everyone. Let's hope 2024 will be better.

Yeah, I don't really make many of those, do I? Didn't even make one for my birthday this say (was on the 25th of November, just like last year).

I could make this a retrospective... look back on the year, see how far I came, plan and speculate on where I'll be going... but honestly, I don't want to. Sounds like a lot of work that would probably leave me sad. So I'm just gonna go with the usual.

Just 9 days left. Things have been going well. The total is at over $28,000 and a couple of stretch goals have been met. But we can do more! Well, 2020 is over (thank fuck!) and it is time to examine how 100 Points to Victory, the painting challenge I did with Pflarrian.

There's no way around it... I lost. While Pflarrian didn't quite make it through the year either, at least I made to it October. I only made it to May.

Honestly, I blame 2020. Without being able to actually play I just lost all motivation to paint something. But hey, I go almost halfway there!

So... what's on for this year? Honestly, I'm not sure. With the stupid virus still going around, the playing situation is not likely to change. Although Pflarrian and I had a successful game using Tabletop Simulator. So maybe that'll help. Plus, Games Workshop is doing a New Year, New Army thing. If you present a painted "force" (not sure about the definition there) in a Warhammer store on the 20th of January you can get an exclusive pin. And I want that. So I'm gonna paint some giants (or gargants) for a Sons of Behemat army I started. Might be kinda cheating since it's just 4 models... but they are big ones. And I plan to do a lot of conversions. So, we'll see.

Pflarrian suggested we do a writing challenge instead. And that sounds like a good idea to me. But again, we'll see.

It is my birthday. From today on my age has a 4 as its first number. I have to admit, it feels a bit strange.

So... I feel its time to address this.

About 1 year ago I made the New Year's Resolution to fully paint one of my armies.

I did not manage that. I tried with my Stormcast Eternals but I didn't get very far. I have some plans to speed up the process... but that's not much help now. So, yeah... I failed.

I feel like I should go back to my old stand-by resolution and not do any New Year's Resolution. Which I had managed to stick to for well over a decade. But, I want to give this one more try.

So, for next year my Resolution is to paint not one but TWO armies!

We'll see how that goes.

Because I know I'll forget about it later, happy holidays everyone, no matter which kind you celebrate. And if you don't have a nice, quiet few days and a happy new year.
