Input about streams and some potential new stuff
Posted 5 years agoRight, so I was just talking about this on Twitter for a minute (Which if you use twitter, you should totally follow me https://twitter.com/ultra_yanto)
I've been getting back to doing periodic streams again. I like doing them cus it puts me on the spot to really get work done on some of my bigger projects like models. For those interested, it's also a great way to see how I work. But more than that, I like having the chance to talk to ppl in a nice comfortable environment for an introvert like myself.
Unfortunately, many times my stream is a bit of a ghost town. I feel a good chunk of that is simply that the work I do is just really boring for those who aren't familiar with designing in 3D or aren't specifically looking at how I work. Unlike drawing, models often have a butt-ton of setup time where it doesn't really look like much till right about the end. Drawing streams may start slow but you can see actual content fairly early on which is engaging to watch.
So in a bid to get more of you guys in my streams to talk to, and just to make my streams more enjoyable in general, I had an idea. How about doing something like a request or small commission stream? Once I have usable models, making art with them is actually suuuper simple and quick. Pose it, render it, done. But the issue is getting the models. I can always limit request streams to using models I already have completed but at the moment that list is kinda small and boring.
So what I'd like to do is setup a bunch of character templates essentially. That would allow me to essentially make less detailed, one-use character models for on the spot pieces and allow me to do small commissions on stream using characters I don't have full models for.
I think it'd be a cool idea, but would also require a lot of work up front to set everything up. So before I dive head first into it, I was curious to see if there'd be any interest in such a thing, or if anyone had any other thoughts about the whole thing.
Let me know your thoughts down below! I'd love to hear what you all think

Thus, it is a joyous day and calls for extravagant celebration.

Growth drive promotion!
Posted 6 years agoHey guys, just taking a quick moment to let you know that
wolfforhire is hosting a growth drive! It'll be featuring a model I made of his character, Rock!
I'm a bit too short on funds to support him myself right now, but if you're able and interested, go send him some support on my behalf~
For all the details, go check out his post here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/34632207/

-Commissions open!- More info below
Posted 6 years agoThe time has finally come! After some rough roads I am ready to take on commissions again!
Obviously I will offering to make things like Character models, sculpts, renders, and so on. 3D stuff, like that should come as any surprise :p
This time around I'll be utilizing Commiss.io to handle the nitty gritty payment and agreement stuff so I can focus more on doing the actual art.
For more details and to submit for a commission, head over to my creator page: https://commiss.io/ultrayanto
The plan is to start a larger project once January starts, and have it finished by the end of the month, working on personal stuff side by side, and then rinse and repeat. That way there'll be something interesting done at least once a month! I've got a couple projects going now, both of which should be done by the end of the month in time to start commission work!
As a side note, I'll also be offering stuff to purchase on Commiss.io aside from commissions. It'll be stuff like HD image packs, model downloads, and other stuff.
For more information, or just to tell me that my face is cute, feel free to note me! ~<3

Going dark!
Posted 6 years agoI'm a bit of a melting pot of emotions right now.
So, today was my last day at my job. I now get to spend the next few days goin through, cleaning the apartment and packing the rest of my stuff. Saturday morning I'll be doing some last minute packing and then I'll be embarking on a 18 hr car ride to my new place.
I'm excited, nervous, sad, a bunch of emotions, really.
I'll be making this move with no job lined up this time. I'm worried about it, but I'd like to give myself a bit more freedom of choice. As you guys might imagine, I'd love to make art my job, but that kind of thing is hard to achieve. I don't think that I'm fast enough at making models and commissions to be able to completely support myself yet.
In other news, after tonight I will be focusing entirely on cleaning/packing so all my art is going to be put on hold. At some point I'll have to start packing up my computer and desk so I won't even be online for a good chunk of time.
Once all of this is over, and I've settled in to the new place, I'd like to take the chance to make some changes in how I handle myself and my art.
Most importantly, I feel, I'd like to be more social and open with you guys. I have a bad habit of making this kind of wall between my personal life and my art. You only really see finished pieces and important updates in most places unless you're in my discord. There is in fact a person behind all the dicks, and I'd like to make that person a bit more known.
I also need to just do more 'art'. I've made many a model and for most of them, I've only made a few things with them. Going forward (and I'm sure I've said this before) I'm going to do my best to set thing up in such a way that even if I'm making a model as a commission, it should get at least some sort of use.
I'll also be spending a bit more time doing personal work. It's a great chance for me to feel the kind of creative freedom and also to test stuff without worry.
A lot of you have started to watch me lately, and it kind of blows my mind if I'm going to be honest. I never would seen myself in this kind of situation. That being said, I just feel like I don't know any of you, and you don't know me either. I'd like to give you guys the chance to help create and be a part of a community together with me, one where we can make god awful puns and have a joined love for dicks!
Anyway, rant time is over. I hope to see you guys in one piece after this whole move is over!
And thanks for all the support you guys give me, allowing me to do what I do ~<3

Status update and important life changes!
Posted 6 years agoHello everyone! The name's Yanto, but you already knew that.
I would like to very quickly say Thank You! to all you who have started watching me recently! I'm an antisocial butt who tends to avoid talking to people, but I assure you that it means the world to me! Nothing is more rewarding than when people enjoy seeing the stuff that you love to make. So thank you again!
But on to the main topic.
I come to you today with a bit of an announcement! Here at the end of the month I will be moving. This decision was made with the hopes that I will be a little bit more financially stable, surrounded with more like-minded people, and able to spend more time doing art for you guys!
Of course this comes with a few setbacks. During the last week of March and the first week of April, I will not be working on commissions. That also means no streams. I'll need the time to both get ready, and make sure that I'm settled in and that everything is in one piece before getting back to work.
For those who I am currently working on commissions for, or for those that may be looking to get a commission, I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience. I will not be taking any new commissions until I am sure that everything made the trip in one piece. My computer has had some issues before when moving it, but I'm hoping for the best.
In other news, looking back at my gallery, I've noticed a severe lack of actual art pieces lately. I've been so focused on working on commissions that I haven't really done much for myself, or actually put a lot the models I've made to use.
That's not to say I haven't actually done anything though. It's just that I forget to post it. Unless it's a 'finished piece' it often only gets posted to my Discord.
Which you can join here: https://discord.gg/cyqUsbs
I'm going to make a point to go through and see what I need to post from there, and will do so over the next week or so. It's mostly little tests and scrappy stuff like that, but I'm sure some of you will find it fun to look at.
I'll also be doing my best to be more adamant about putting the models I make to use at least a little bit, even if they are primarily for other people to use.
Anyway, thank you guys so much for all of your support lately! I look forward to being able to continue making dicks for you people on the internet to enjoy ;3

Posted 7 years agoThank you so much guys! I posted my last journal asking for characters to model, and within hours I had 4 requests lined up! That's huge to me, and it means I'll be keeping busy for a while. If you weren't an early bird and haven't sent me a message yet, then I'm afraid you're out of luck. Gonna do my best to get through my queue in a timely matter and we'll see how I feel at that point.
To those who requested a model, I will message you once I begin working on yours if I haven't done so already.
I'll also be updating my profile info shortly to add my current queue of work. Feel free to have a look so see how far I am with my current work and how soon it may be until I sart my next piece.
As always if you have any questions or concerns, you can send my note!
Thank you all very much for your interest in my work! It means a lot!

Help Needed! Free model!
Posted 7 years agoSo, here's the deal. I'll try and keep this short and simple.
Who wants a free model?
I want to get better at modeling. I want to be able to create better models, with a consistent style, in less time. I'd love to take classes to learn the various aspects of 3D modeling but I have neither the time or money to be able to take dedicated classes. Therefore, the next best thing for me would seem to be just practice. Trial and error. Lots of it. I want to be able to work on projects within a self-set deadline so that I can see where I fail, where I'm slow, and how to fix it.
And that's where you come in. See, to be honest, I'm kinda bad at character design. They all seem to fall under a similar stereotype and visual style. That won't help me. Instead, I figured I'd reach out and see if you'd be interested in providing me with some reference material, and I'll model your character!
---To go into more detail here---
- Ultimately, this is purely for my own practice and education.
- I aim for the model to include; the main model itself, a somewhat basic texture/material, and a rig. Might add some shape keys/expressions if I'm feeling frisky
- This will be completely free of charge
- You don't actually GET the model. If things turn out well and you'd like extra renders, turntables, access to the model and/or source files, we can discuss that later.
- WIPs and a final showcase will be posted (unless explicitly requested not to) but no other art will be posted without permission
- While I'm going to be setting my own deadline for when I'd like to have a model finished, I make no actual promise it'll be done on time
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED PLEASE SEND ME A NOTE Freebies are done for now!
- Please go easy on me. No super complex character designs
- Will do most species
- Will do any gender
- Will do NSFW so long as character is 18+
- Will do other people's characters, so long as they give explicit permission to do so
- Please provide either a ref sheet, and/or enough pieces for me to be able to get a complete picture of the character
Any questions, feel free to comment or send me a note!

Status Update
Posted 7 years agoTL;DR Been updating models, almost done, more art soonTM
Man, feels like I've really had my hands full recently!
Ok, so here's the scoop. As I was finishing the last piece I made, it dawned on my that I should really make some changes to my models. While they work for most situations, the meshes weren't fully optimized, and some of the weight painting was a bit messed up. As a result I've been spending most of my time over the last week or so trying to fix things.
Unfortunately, since I had to make changes to the mesh, most of everything else broke and I had to rebuild it, like the rig, shape keys for expressions, textures, and so on. Some of it was easier to recover or rebuild than others, but it still took longer than I had wanted.
To top things off, I've been building a new basic body mesh that I can use for future character creation. With that finally done, I decided to rebuild Ultra's model, since the body had been bugging me for a while.
Lastly, I've been meaning to add clothes to Ultra's model for a while. That finally got started. It's basic for now and will need detail work but the concept is there. There aren't many more things I need to add to Ultra's model. Just gotta re-add the genitalia, and then remake the expressions and we'll be back in business. I already finished editing the Houndoom model, so he should be ready to rock as far as I know.
Once those last few things are finished I'll be good to start cranking out some more art for you guys! I hope to be able to get this all done within the next day or so, but we'll see how things go. I gotta try and juggle this alongside a full-time job and my own sanity.

OWO Hewwo?
Posted 8 years agoOk. I'm sorry for the title. Plz don't stab.
Alright, so I'm currently in the process of trying to make a new model that features a lot more defined muscle. It is giving me a fucking headache. So here's where y'all come in.
In the time after I've had enough working on my muscle model, I'd like to have something else to work on. And, admittedly, I could certainly be making props and furniture so I can actually set up some indoor scenes, but I'd like to work with characters.
If anyone has any requests, ideas, or if you're getting real crazy and want to drop me some money to make you something, hit me up.
I'm sure I can come up with my own ideas and projects to work on, but I feel that if someone actually requests something I'll be much more pressured to get it done in a reasonable amount of time.
Besides, as much as I like my own work, I want to know what you guys want to see!

Posted 8 years agoAlright, time to spill the beans on what I've been up to.
Ultra's model is at a state I can call 'done'. He doesn't have clothes yet, but everything else should be ready for animation. All the bones work as intended and have IK rigging, there's the framework for basic facial expressions, and I've spent some time sorting out textures and materials.
As time and energy allow, there are plenty of things I'd like to test out. Included in that list are things like Blender's version of jiggle bones for things like the ears and tail, more advanced facial features, and clothing simulation.
I also have an idea for the next thing I'd like to model. For now though, I think I'll dip my toes into animating, as I have an idea in mind to both test my animating skills and show off the model in it's current state! I may post some renders before that, but look forward to some teasers for that before to long!

Tumblr? Yes?
Posted 8 years agoMan, honestly, I have been having a blast doing modeling work. I may get mad at it from time to time, but every time I make progress on something, it just feels so good!
As a result, I really enjoy documenting and posting WIP progress pics. I tend to keep them confined to my Discord chat, but I'd Imagine that maybe someone would want to see how these kinds of things progress. So, rather than spamming people's inboxes with every little change I make on a day to day basis, I figured that I can spam people's Tumblrs instead!
So, if any of you want to creep on what I'm doing on any given day, go follow me here: https://ultrayanto.tumblr.com/
I may occasionally post other, non-art related stuff, but most of the stuff I'll be posting here on out will likely be model updates and the occasional drawing.

Posted 8 years agoJee wizz! I just LOVE render times!
Such a splendid time to take a breather, step away from your work, maybe get some chores around the house done, go out to eat, travel the world, write a book, learn 5 new languages, study the science of time, invent time travel, visit the future, and find your now 300 year old computer just in time to see the last image being rendered!
Good times...
In other words, I'm rendering an animation (Nothing crazy so don't get too exited)

3D Animation: Stage 2
Posted 8 years agoNow listen closely, here's the deal. He'll slip and sl
In my time screwing around with SFM I believe that I've learned a good bit about posing, animation, and some staging/lighting. Nothing groundbreaking, but the basics. At this point I'd like to take my experience and actually make a well put together piece.
This leads me to 2 things;
1) If anyone is interested in seeing anything in particular, SFW or otherwise, let me know. I'm open for trying to make things outside my realm of inspiration
2) through days of testing stuff, I have come to the conclusion that SFM's particle system is crap and very limited. Particles don't collide with models (only the static world), they don't work on properly on like 50% of maps, and they're pretty damn basic. (some animations require some nice looking fluid physics if ya know what I mean)
So, this has prompted me to finally dive head first into Blender animation. No doubt I'll have to learn how to do the same things in Blender that I've learned in SFM, but hopefully it shouldn't prove too difficult. For now I'll just be porting SFM assets to blender or finding models online because my modeling skills are pretty bad and it'd take a month just to make something half decent to animate.
As far as current projects that I'm working on, they're all either proof of concept pieces that aren't worth uploading, or I ran into a problem part way through that I can't really fix. Unfortunately that includes the last project I teased a while back (Thanks SFM for making half the maps break my particles)
So if anyone wants to request anything, comment or send me a note or something. I'm sure I'll want something to do between learning Blender and playing Overwatch.

Here we go boys
Posted 8 years agoI'm doing it again
It's gonna happen this time
I'm gonna 3D stuff
So, SFM is pretty baller. I like working with it a lot. Certainty no Guru or anything yet, but I think I can some pretty good stuff done.
That got me thinking, If I can make some cool things in SFM, whats stopping my from going into larger 3D programs?
Naturally, the next step is Blender. It's a 3D modeling and animation program that's free. Cool. I've worked with it before, and promptly discovered I was in over my head. This time, however, I have some more confidence. I'm going to take things slow this time, one small project at a time, and I'm going to learn this thing.
My end goal? Well, for right now I'd like to acquire the skills to model my own assets. I'll likely end up porting them over to SFM for either my own use or the community's, and I may eventually try animating using an actually 3D animation program like Blender (or Maya if I could ever afford it)
So that's my plan. The beginnings of my first usable asset is posted in my scarps. Took me all night to get that thing made and frankly, I'm pretty proud of it.
Wish me luck boys, I'm gonna need it.

Posted 9 years agoHi! It's me! I exist still!
So for the fourth time this year I've just gotten done moving. My packing skills are on point!
And as I was unpacking my car today, I grabbed the box that I keep all my drawings in. And I mean almost ALL of them, from like over 4 years ago. So, I sat down and took a trip down the drawn tiles of memory lane, flipping through books of unfinished sketches and folders of finished works.
It was a pretty good time. Somewhat embarrassing, but mostly inspirational. A timeline from some of the most uncanny looking pieces to works that look as good as someone who only draws as a hobby can hope to create.
And despite the fact that my gallery hasn't been updated in months, I have still been drawing. Not nearly as often as I used to perhaps (being an adult takes more time out of my day than I thought it would), but it's not like I've outright quit. I suppose I just haven't felt as motivated to share my work as of late. I've been going through this mentality that I must improve in order to satisfy myself, so whether or not other people enjoy it hasn't been any concern.
So, for those of you who are still interested in my drawings, you can expect to see some of what I've been doing over the past months before too long. Still gotta hook up my scanner >.>
And of course, they'll be posted to some of the other art sites I'm on, such as DA and Tumblr as well.
This concludes my sudden and probably unexpected journal entry. I am now going to go dwell on the fact that my best friend went into the Navy and I don't have anyone to talk to for like 2 months. yay T^T

Ok people, let's get this straight.
Posted 11 years agoYou are not a god.
Let me preface the rest of this journal by stating that this is my personal opinion. I am also not directing this at any one person. Also, this is a rant.
I have this one pet peeve when people create OCs and/or personas and whatnot. There are many cases where the characters created seem unnaturally god-like. The characters either have some incredibly unbelievable gift, or has a great gift with no drawbacks. These characters become superheros essentially, and any time they interact with other characters, they either seem to overpower them, seem incredibly intimidating, or it ends up being like a battle of the gods. The entire situation seems unnatural and awkward to me. They feel unbelievable and I can't really relate. When I create a character, that character has life. They have a story, they have looks, they have emotions, and all of that. The character become something that can really exist. When you add something unnatural or strange to that character, they loose a chunk of their credibility to me. Now, if your character is a Pikachu, for example, then the ability to fire lightning bolts is perfectly fine. That's natural for that 'species' you could call it. But, add that ability to a snake, and things tend to become a little iffy. Something like that needs clarification. For instance, that character lives in a world of magic and they spent many long years training to be able to harness the power of lighting. That's a bit dry of a backstory, but you get the idea. Just saying they were born able to control lighting tends to lean to the unnatural side again.
Another thing I think is important when creating a character, is balance. That snake that can shoot lighting? Great in battle, no doubt. On the other side, he took how many years to master it? Oh, and protect yourself from lightning and suddenly he can't do anything. He can throw a few punches, but he's not incredibly strong. Suddenly that god-like snake doesn't seem so god-like. Balance is important. The great fighter, awful temper. The great inventor, terrible social skills. And so on. For instance, Ultra Yanto, he's a kind hearted Yoshi. He is not very strong, but what he lacks in strength, he makes up in speed and agility. When possible, he prefers ranged assault because he is not great at hand to hand combat. he's great with tech, but is generally shy around people. Each strength is balanced out by a weakness of some sort. Even when he becomes the greatest warrior in the world, he has lost time, probably taken more than a few wounds, and seen his freinds hurt or dead. Even as the greatest warrior, if you're good, you can still hit that one weak spot.
There are also characters who are just plain different. By nature. This one is arguable, but this is my personal opinion. When a character can do one thing that no one else can or do it 20 times better, just by nature, the character suddenly seems alien. The character is different, yes, but perhaps too different. They tend not to fall into any category in the context of other characters of the same species or profession, or any other category. They are the Superman of men. Obviously characters need to stand out. Everyone needs something to define them from everyone else, but more often than not they can be unique while remaining within normal standards. Otherwise the character seems overwhelming or unapproachable.
But that's just me.
What do you think?

Heeeeyyyy!
Posted 11 years agoI'm still alive! I promise!
I know I may not seem very active but trust me, I've been actively creeping on all you people. :D
And drawing a few things. But only a few. I've been rather scatterbrained lately with trying to figure out college stuff and scholarships and whatnot.
I'd like to say that I'll be drawing more, but I really can't guarantee anything at this point.
But keep in mind that I'm always creeping on you all at all times! ~<3

*Scrape*
Posted 12 years agoTime to scrape off the rust on this account and get things updated.
Expect a small upload spree shortly.
To update on things from the last journal, I decided that I don't have nearly enough patience to do game design. So no Yanto vs The World RPG thingy. Going back to drawing that out. But I've discovered that my tablet is actually much nicer to draw with than a drawing pad hooked to my desktop. My tablet it more portable and i can see where the lines are as I draw them. Much neater than with paper and much more accurate than my drawing pad.
Expect more art soon
In other news, I've had a Tumblr account for a while now but I've never really posted anything and only really used it to look at cat pictures. So many cats...
*cough* Anyway, starting today, any art and important info will be posted on my Tumblr as well as here. On the same note, I'm going to continue to update my DA and post art and info there as well.
So, for those of you who use either Tumblr and/or DA and would like to watch/follow me and have not done so, I recommend you do.

Life Update and Yanto VS The World
Posted 12 years ago So I can imagine some of you have been wondering what I've been up to for a while. I know, the last time I was on I started Yanto VS The World. You can see how that turned out. It's been scrapped. Sorry. However, it's not gone, but I'll get to that in a sec.
Now, for me this is a very important moment in my life. I'm 17 and in my last year of high-school. That means that I have to worry about the rest of my life, which will start with college. The last few months have been a mental disaster as I tried to figure out what I really wanted to do with my life. It had to involve art, I knew that. I have my choices, media design, 3D design, Animation, and a bunch of others. After a while I went back to what someone had once told me "Whatever you enjoyed doing as a kid, do that" she said. So what did I do as a kid? I made games. I would spend a lot of my free time drawing out levels and defining rules and what certain objects did. So, that's what I've decided. I'm going to go to college for game design.
This brings me to another topic. Yanto VS The World will make a return, as an RPG. That's my plan, anyway. To me Yanto VS The World is as much of a story as it is artwork. Therefore, Yanto VS The World will be my inspiration for designing a game. I am currently using a program called GameSalad. I'm still learning it, so I am using Yanto VS The World as my learning project.
So, that's what I've been up to for a while. Don't expect much art for a while because most of my free time will be occupied by YVW (The abbreviation I'm giving it because it takes way to long to write it out every time). However, once I get farther into developing YVW, I'll be posting screenshots and maybe even Pre-Alpha and Alpha versions of the game. But let's not get ahead of ourselves here, that's pretty far in the future.
So, sorry for not being active for a while, you now know why. I still want to be involved with people, but my mind's been mush lately so I've just been creeping on people really. I'd like to involve anyone who want to be involved in YVW once it's to the stage where I can do that, so keep an eye out for updates, and we'll see where this goes!

I am saving lives
Posted 12 years agoNow, I may not be flying around saving little children from sharks or anything, but I'm still saving lives.
About 2 months ago, I went to a blood drive in our school. A lot of people were complaining about his and that. I laugh at them all cus most of the time they're just afraid of blood and needles, something you learn to tolerate quickly when diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. That aside, I donated blood with no issues (and I did it pretty fast apparently).
Today I received a letter telling me that my blood donation was being sent to NY to help a patient. So, needless to say, I'm pretty happy bout that.
Another thing that makes me feel happy inside is that my blood type is O-, a universal blood type. I love it cus that means I can essentially provide blood for anybody.
I plan on donating blood whenever the next blood drive is, as well as any other's after that. Donating blood can save lives, so I feel it's only my part in helping humanity, if only a little bit.
So how bout you guys? Do you guys donate blood? If not, how come?
