Lately I’ve been getting a bunch of ads for that upcoming Kristen Stewart sci-fi/horror movie Underwater. Now, from what I can gather, nobody’s turnin’ into nothin’ in that movie (except Living Human -> Monster Food, I guess), but still, I see a shirtless, buzzcut-sporting K-Stew running around an underwater base, besieged by weird sea monsters, and, well...my mind starts going places. I think, hey, I can work with this.

I’m working off-and-on on a couple projects right now, but I don't have anything ready for immediate release, so thought I’d pose a few questions to my followers, who I know are all well-read, intelligent people of impeccable taste:

I've got a pretty solid idea for a new story - but I haven't figured out what people are going to be turning into yet! That's where you come in, dear readers - I'm looking for a couple off-the-beaten-track suggestions for animals that are frequently given short shrift in TF fiction. If you're visiting this page, you probably like transformation - more so than most people, even. And there are probably other sub-categories you like - shrinking, muscle growth, feet, or what have you. But now I'm asking: what are the little things you appreciate in your transformation fiction?

For instance, I really enjoy human body modifications carrying over to the inhuman final form - a permanent reminder that the transformee was human to begin with. A werewolf with a shock of magenta hair, a mermaid with a lip ring, a space alien with a lower back tattoo...it just does it for me. How about you?
