HAPPY BACK TO THE FUTURE DAY!
Posted 10 years agoIn the summer of 1992, I was introduced to the Back to the Future trilogy. I devoured those films; watching and rewatching them backwards and forwards until I had memorized each scene and every line of dialogue.
Recently, I have been screening the trilogy again for the first time in over twenty years (and for my very first time in widescreen) in anticipation of an event which—twenty-three years ago—once seemed so unreachably distant.
But now, at last, it is here.
Ladies and gentlefurs, HAPPY BACK TO THE FUTURE DAY!
Today is Wednesday, October 21st, 2015: The date whereupon the events from the first act of Back to the Future Part II take place.
The future is now; the future is here!
Let us now take a moment to once again appreciate Twenty-First Century life and all of its blissful accomplishments.
“Fiction,” you say? I think not! Once a dream, the world of tomorrow is now today’s reality!
The Fabulous Foods:
The Trendiest Toys:
And the latest releases from your local Holomax:
But remember folks, the future is what you make of it. So make it a good one; preferably with your friends and family by your side!
I hope to see all of you again in a few years on the next great date of a futuristic film’s prediction: November 2019, and the events of Blade Runner.

Procession 2015 Bonus Footage [Videos]
Posted 10 years agoAs with every video project, some footage is omitted before the final cut. Rather than allowing it to be trod upon, here are two extra videos out of this year’s Procession of the Species in Bellingham, Washington.
First of all, there was considerable footage of
singha’s
daisothefox; who spent a great deal of time playing with children, mugging for the camera, and being all-around adorable. So here are some of the best run-on segments of the two-dollar Fox in action; with appearances by his friends
Skyan and
knossos/Naq Ryba.
Finally,
wolfjlupus stars in a trailer for this autumn’s most anticipated horror movie; created by Hollywood’s finest masters of schlock.

Furlife organized yet another appearance at the 12th annual Procession to spread more happiness and cheer. The Procession included appearances by*:
Chaos (Aetobatus)
Dai (Carson10us)
DaisoTheFox (SinghaTheLion)
Lasrach (Frysco)
Matirces
Monday (Zazzay)
Naq Ryba (Knossos)
Nightshade (Nightshade51)
Rukario (LordRukario)
Siber Hamster
Skyan
StarSkunk
Thunder Orca
Voltage (Razzy Lee)
*Editor’s Note: This by no means should be regarded as a comprehensive list of all the furs that attended, but rather is an inventory of those fursons who made the final cut. If you attended the Procession and have been omitted from this video, I apologize.
Come and see another exciting video of this event from
Razzy_Lee (Voltage): VancouFur 2016: Our New Home [Video]
Posted 10 years agoIn 2012, British Columbia’s furry community welcomed the world to
VancouFur: the first furry convention held in western Canada. For four years, our home has been the Executive Hotel and Conference Center. Now, we have outgrown our home, and we are moving on to larger pastures. In 2016, VancouFur will not be held at the Executive Hotel in Burnaby. Instead, we will be moving to the Executive Airport Plaza Hotel. Located in Richmond, this larger hotel is thirty minutes from the U.S. border, and just 10 minutes from Vancouver International Airport.
There is a free shuttle service between the airport and hotel, and an indoor parkade if you are traveling by car.
Upon checking in, you will find that the hotel is divided into three sections: The Courtyard, The Plaza, and The Tower.
Courtyard accommodations feature Standard Rooms, and Junior Suites.
Standard Courtyard Rooms have King, Queen, and two double bed arrangements, with bathrooms, air conditioning, in-room safes, and internet access.
Junior Suites are only available to those guests hosting Party Rooms. They have a Queen-size bed, separate living room with pullout sofa bed, kitchen area with wetbar, and, in some rooms, Jacuzzi bathtubs.
Accommodations in The Plaza are similar to Standard Courtyard Rooms. Both the Courtyard and Plaza will host our party room blocks. Oh, and did I also mention that these three kinds of rooms are all pet friendly?
Lastly, we are offering a limited number of Luxury Apartments in The Tower. Available in one, two, and three bedroom layouts with additional sofa beds, these apartments have separate living rooms, bedrooms, and kitchen and dining areas, with in-suite washers and dryers. They also offer the hotel’s best views. Please keep in mind that the tower is home to many long-time residents, so be considerate to your non-furry neighbors.
Be sure to visit our website to learn more about these accommodations at: http://vancoufur.org/hotel.php
And one more thing: All rooms and balconies are Non-Smoking.
But what about the convention itself? We have now more than 14,000 square feet of event space in a variety of locations; from the main ballroom, to smaller panel rooms.
If you are looking for a bite to eat, Trivoli’s offers daily breakfast and lunch; with dinner served at Carver’s Steakhouse.
If you just want a place to hang out why not take a dip in the indoor pool and hot tub, relax in the courtyard, or stroll a huge rooftop garden.
So thanks for joining us on a tour of the Executive Airport Plaza Hotel. We hope to see you on March 3rd, 2016, as we celebrate VancouFur: Atlantis.

mBlade and Captain Awesome at VancouFur 2015 [Videos]
Posted 10 years agoIn recent years, an increasingly large contingent of
albertafurs have convoyed across the Rocky Mountains to attend
Vancoufur. A diverse and talented bunch, these Alberta Furries have fast become standouts among the convention’s yearly personalities.
First off, we have the most illuminating Akita on the dance floor,
mBlade, showing off the LED Understuit he created along with
AlexiHusky.
Lastly, a few stirring words from
lone_tiggs/Captain Awesome.

The Flickr Supplement (VancouFur 2015)
Posted 10 years agoOver the past year, I have become increasingly aware that a number of FA Photografurs also have Flickr accounts. It makes sense to post your comprehensive archive elsewhere rather than flooding FA with dozens or even hundreds of images. Long-time watchers may have noticed my tendency to restrict uploads to only those images that are considered top shelf, that have not already been posted on the subjects’ FA accounts, and that have been combined into elaborate photo collages.
However, for every image uploaded there are many more that I feel ought to be shared. Hence my reasons for opening a Flickr account. While I plan to continue uploading material to FA as before, Flickr will now allow further elaborative avenues of exhibition, distribution, and cross-pollinating self-promotion. (Or, to put it musically, think of FA as my compiled Greatest Hits, and Flick as my Album cuts).
With that being said, everyone is now invited over to Flickr to view my first album, which is devoted to the images of
VancouFur 2015. I must complement everyone who so kindly took the time to pose and be posed during that magical weekend; really, thank you all. As before, if you were photographed you have permission to download and repost your images if they can be of service to you (provided that you please credit your photografur).
And now, here they are…https://www.flickr.com/photos/13143.....57650544752054

VancouFur 2016: Where I Wanna Be
Posted 10 years agoRight now all of us are feeling the same way. We were glad to see one another again. We enjoyed each other’s company. We drew. We took photographs and shot videos. We laughed. We Danced. We fursuited. Some of us worked our tails off. We did things that will never be forgotten. All of us are now very tired. And, sadly, we are now apart once again. The events of this past weekend are now passing into the myth and legend of
VancouFur. Let us not be sad. In a year, hopefully, we will be together again; old friends and fresh faces. Right now it feels so very far away. But the time will come to once again rejoice and sing and dance and ring in the new at our home by the sea.
Hail Atlantis, the Cradle of Furry Civilization!

Howloween 2014 (Canon 70D Test Footage)
Posted 11 years agoDuring the 12th annual incarnation of
Howloween—British Columbia’s largest Halloween-themed furry event—I spent much of the day wandering around trying out the video quality of a Canon 70D (and specifically the abilities of its autofocus). A number of fursuiters ably collaborated with this testing, and here are some of the best results (spiced up with various sound and video effects just for added fun).Storybrooke: The Tail of a Fox and a Wolf [Video]
Posted 11 years agoOnce Upon A Time, there was a magical little town in Maine called Storybrooke. Over the years, the citizens of Storybrooke had seen many wonderful and fantastic sights. But one warm summer’s day, a sight which no one in the little town had beheld before took place when two visitors appeared from a faraway land. These visitors had heard of the town’s magical reputation, and come in search of fun and adventure. The two visitors were pretty magical in their own right, for they were not human: One was a Fox named
Renniefox; the other a Wolf named
Sairyswolf. And this is what happened...
Fun with Fursuiters at Stanley Park [Video]

Posted 11 years agoFor many months, VancouFur’s Video Advertising Staff have been hard at work producing new promotional material for
VancouFur 2015. Many fursuiters have participated in this project; many more of you would like to have taken part. You still can! As you can see by the above video, we have created a Police Station (via the magic of green screens) and would like to hang a series of portraits for our “Wall of Fame”. There is enough room to insert EIGHT portraits on the wall. This contest is only open to all fursuiters who did not get to actually take part in filming. Here is what we would like you do: Send an email to contest[at]vancoufur.ca and include a link to the photograph that you are submitting to this contest (please do not attach the actual image). Your submission can be a photograph that you have previously uploaded, or, if you are feeling creative, you can upload a new photograph of your fursuit for submission to the contest. One photograph of each fursuit please (Furs with multiple suits can submit one entry per suit).
This contest ends at midnight on NOVEMBER 30TH. Be sure to stay tuned to VancouFur’s Video Channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/VancouFur to see if you make it into the picture!
VancouFur 2015 Promo Video
Posted 11 years agoIMPORTANT Information relating to VancouFur’s 2015 Promotional Video Project
(This post will be updated in step with updates below to display the most current information possible).
From August 9-10, 2014,
VancouFur’s Video Department will be filming a promotional video for VancouFur 2015. This video will be following next year’s convention theme: Film Noir Presents Gangsters and Gumshoes. A project of this magnitude cannot be done alone. The more of you that are willing to lend a paw, the better it will turn out. We want to make the best VancouFur video yet!
If you would like to join this project, please leave a reply to this post, or email videos[at]vancoufur.ca to join our mailing list.
LOCATION
The entire video will be filmed at
Errol_the_dragon’s Warehouse in Surrey, British Columbia. All scenes will take place in different rooms within the complex. The exact address for this location will be emailed to all cast and crew before shooting begins.
FURSUIT CAST:
Although major roles have already been filled, additional cameos are needed for a specific scene. We would like a lineup of suspected Gangsters that will be questioned regarding their involvement in a crime. Full Fursuiters need only apply. If you have any props or an appropriate hat that you would like to bring to the shoot, please do so by all means.
CREW:
Many hands will be needed to keep this production rolling. We have cameras, lights, flags, monitors, stands, green screens, cables, and a multitude of props. We will need people who can help set up and move these objects, attend to fursuiters, mark the slate, and act as Gofers and Production Assistants. Actual on set experience is not necessary, but it would be an asset.
Everyone who participates or contributes in some way towards the completion of this project will receive an onscreen credit.
THANK YOU to everyone who showed and made this happen!

Be In The Next VANCOUFUR Advert, Shooting at Howloween
Posted 12 years ago“Gateway to the Pacific.” This is of course the theme for
VancouFur 2014. But what does that phrase mean to you? How would you describe it? What thoughts does it bring to mind? What images does it inspire? What words pop into your head? What things could you use to better explain it?
VancouFur would like to know. I will be roaming around
Howloween on November 2nd with
babycheetah’s Kheetah Cam, and, if you feel that you can answer the above questions, I would like to record your answers for a new video. In the past VancouFur’s advertisements have been exclusively Fursuit-cast. Not this time. Everyone what wants to participate is invited to do so; suiters and non-suiters alike. How you choose to frame your responses is entirely up to you. If you would like to wear a Fursuit, go right ahead. (Suiters also have the choice between talking or silently miming while in suit, whichever feels more comfortable). If you are an artist, you can sketch out your answer. Bring props if they will help you explain. You can act out something. Involve a friend. Be as creative as you would like to be.
The best responses will be compiled together into a minute-long piece of edited video that will be uploaded to VancouFur’s YouTube account. So, if you would like to participate in this project, post a reply here, send me a message, or just simply flag me down at Howloween anytime that you see me.
Thank you all for your time. I hope to see you there!

WE WANT YOU to create a short promotional video advertising VancouFur 2014. The Winning Video will be uploaded to our YouTube Channel and featured on VancouFur’s associated social media sites to promote the convention around the world.

• Your Video does not need to be made on theme, but should find a way to incorporate the convention’s theme into its content. The theme for 2014 is “Gateway to the Pacific”.
• Your video must somehow include relevant convention information, including the dates (February 27-March 2, 2014), location (The Executive Hotel & Conference Centre), theme, and where to register (www.vancoufur.ca). This information can be integrated into the plot or shown as a final credit card.
• Entrants will first be asked to submit their video to contest[at]vancoufur.ca for a pre-screening review.
• Entries will be judged according to their abilities to engage viewers, and to produce creative and memorable videos.

The VancouFur 2013 VHS Experiment [Video]
Posted 12 years agoWhy VHS? Simple: Nobody else was going to do it that weekend! A format that just twenty years ago was comfortably familiar is now quaintly archaic; it’s fuzzy analogue interlacing replaced by razor sharp digital high definition. A step down to true video is now a step back in time akin to using tape cassettes or laserdiscs. My childhood was resplendent in VHS; captured and preserved much like my parents' lives exist on film. But video now comparatively appears to be so washed out, unfocused, and unprofessional. In other words individualistic and unmistakable.
The Experiment also afforded an opportunity to reverse my usual role in event videography. When I am operating The Kheetah Cam,
babycheetah does not know what I have recorded until he has had a chance to screen the footage and then create an edit. This experiment was designed so that I would never once press RECORD. Instead, the 1999 Panasonic Palmcorder would be given to other furs, who would then take the Camcorder around
vancoufur while I was busy off shooting somewhere else. Once I reviewed the footage later, I would be seeing everything for the first time and have to create an edit. And so on Friday afternoon, March 1, the Palmcorder was handed off to
Wereman. The next morning, March 2, Wereman took the Camcorder with him down to registration. Then the Camcorder was passed on to Traveller, who was given a brand new blank TC-30 videocassette, and told to shoot the Fursuit Parade and whatever else he happened to come across until he ran out of tape. This explains why in the middle of the dance competition the footage comes to a rather abrupt end (sorry
fazar and everyone who came after). In all there were some 40 minutes of footage preserved in glorious videotape, and here are what I felt are the best 15 minutes of tape.
Now, to see what inspired this experiment, please check out
coopertom’s video, “Vintage Anthrocon 2012”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lrCSMQDpO8Have a ball at VancouFur Outtakes [Video]
Posted 12 years agoWhen Furries have a ball, ANYTHING can happen. Just throw a ball into a crowd of fursuiters, stand back, and see what happens. No direction is necessary; they will take care of the rest.
And always make sure that you have your camera ready.
Have a ball at
VancouFur was edited together from more than an hour of footage recorded over three days. The style of the final cut necessitated chopping up some wonderful sequences. This series of outtakes goes beyond those mere fragments that ended up being used in the finished promo and shows off more elaborate moments of play from that weekend.See the Original!: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4528734/
Have A Ball At VancouFur! [Video]
Posted 12 years agoOn a number of occasions during the weekend of
VancouFur 2013, you might have witnessed groups of fursuiters tossing around a bright yellow inflatable soccer ball. Now I hope that all of you—including those fursuiters whom I asked to participate in these improvised events—will understand why. I have already said this before but I insist on saying it again: THANK YOU to each and every one of the thirty-something-odd fursuiters who participated in the making of this video! I hope that all of you had fun being part of this project.See the Outtakes!: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4550894/
