After thinking for a long time, I've decided that I will no longer be making Moomin art. The art that is in my gallery will also be deleted. Let me explain why.


Some time ago, a friend of mine who was also a Moomin fan, was sued by the Moomin company. There were a multitude of reasons. Here are the ones that I know of:


1) Creating a hub for a service that allows people to download/consume Moomin-related media. Yes, this sounds incredibly infringing of Moomin's IP and I am not trying to deny that. But the thing is, Moomin-related media has very poor syndication. It's near impossible to get your hands on either physical media or watch anything on tv or a streaming service. There are tons of Moomin-related visual media that never got to see the light of day beyond what area they were orginally showcased in and my friend simply wanted to offer Moomin fans a chance to enrich themselves with everything the franchise had to offer, without making a single penny; it was a labour of love with nothing but good intentions. Namely, spreading the knowledge of the existence of more Moomin stuff, past what's been deemed mainstream like the 90's series and the new Moominvalley series.

2) Having a Moomin-related Twitter handle. Originally, my friend had the name of a Moomin character as part of their Twitter username. Since he also used Twitter to gain attention for his commissions, the Moomin company took this as him using their IP to gain clout, fame and by extension money. No good.

3) Having art of Moomins as commission examples. On that same Twitter, my friend offered examples of his commissions, aka stuff he drew without being paid for it, to serve as an example of his style. Unfortunately, one of those examples featured Moomin-related characters and the company once again took that as IP theft for monetary gain.


As a result, my friend has now been sued for 50.000 dollars by the Moomin company. He's a lone artist with not a lot of financial prowess to speak of. So now, both him and his family are left in financial ruin and don't have a lot to stand on until their debt to the company is paid and all legal costs are covered.


If you want to get technical, the Moomin company had every right to press legal charges to protect their IP. That's as solid as can be. HOWEVER, as a company that produces a franchise with a fan-following, such treatment of fans, when it comes to light, is horrible PR. After learning about this, Moomins has never been the same for me. I used to love the franchise because of its lessons about carefree life, not caring for material possessions and lighthearted anarchy. To have this franchise in the hands of people who apparently care for the exact opposite is jarring to say the least and it saddens me to see Tove Jansson's legacy treated this way.


For these reasons, I have decided to step down from Moomins and it breaks my heart. I've enjoyed this franchise and its fans immensely, but I just cannot continue supporting it when said fans are being subjected to such a harsh treatment.


Do what you want with this information. If you still want to enjoy Moomins, then that's totally fine and I won't judge. Just know that I won't be coming back to it anytime soon, if ever.

It's been way too long since I've done this last, so I figured I'd host another OC drawing livestream this sunday. You know what that means? I need your OCs!

Feel free to submit an OC by posting a ref in the comments below! Visual references are preferred; I cannot guarantee I will pick written descriptions as they're trickier to draw from. The livestream will be on Sunday September 12th at around 7 PM CEST.

Some rules:

-Only OCs that are submitted /before/ Sunday will be elligible for drawing, so no coming into my stream, throwing OCs at me.
-I will pick what OCs will be drawn. There won't be favorites or listening to pandering. When in the stream, don't start nagging to have your OC drawn.
-These will most likely be simple sketches; don't demand something more/else.
-You don't have to be present at the stream to guarantee your OC being drawn, but of course, it's always fun to have you there : ) All sketches will be posted online later.
-During the stream, please be polite and friendly towards other people whose OCs are being drawn. Don't be a jerk and make fun of a design, story or anything else. You would hate it if it happened to your OC.

Copyright infringement is not a joke, guys. I’d like to put this out to inform you and warn you about your future ventures as an artist.

Here’s the thing. By law, fanart is considered bootleg. You’re making something containing characters that you don’t own. Selling merch containing said fanart is therefore by law illegal. It doesn’t matter that you are the creator of the art, you are not the owner of the content. Taking commissions and drawing fanart when someone pays you to do so fall under that same category.

However, individual artists usually don’t get a tap on the wrist from the companies who legally own the characters. For them, it’s pretty clear that such small transactions won’t hurt them that much financially and pressing charges against each and every ‘bootlegger’ would take a lot of time, effort and money. However, this doesn’t mean that selling fanart and taking fanart commissions isn’t without risks.

A friend of mine is facing legal charges right now; They’re being sued by Moomin Ltd. The reason, among other things, is because my friend used to have a Moomin-themed username as their Twitter handle while they were offering commissions. Moomin Ltd claimed that by using their copyrighted property, this person gained followers, fame, attention and made money in the form of commissions and they demand to be financially compensated. It sounds petty and unfair, but Moomin Ltd completely has the right to do this since everything Moomin is considered THEIR property. While a lot of companies usually wouldn’t take the effort to pursue individual artists for this, Moomin Ltd doesn’t joke around.

So here’s my word of warning; Do NOT sell anything Moomin-related in the form of art or merch, especially if you don’t have permission from Moomin Ltd. That should also go for taking Moomin-themed commissions. I’ve now seen up close how severe these legal measures can be, so this is serious.

And if you want to make money taking any commissions, make sure your username doesn’t have anything copyrighted in it, just to be absolutely safe. It is definitely the case for Moomin, but I’d say anything copyrighted is a possible risk.

I’m still a little shaken and worried for my friend, but I felt this warning needed to be issued. Please be cautious.

Because I've taken quite a hiatus of drawing anthro-art, I do feel guilty of neglecting this gallery and going into lurk-mode.

Frankly, I have been active quite a bit. but it's all dwarf art. Like, dwarf art of the Disney kind :P

They're not anthros, but I still think it's adorable and perhaps interesting to a few of you. So over the course of today, I'll be posting what I've been working on for the past few months.

But first, so sorry for this long silence here. I've been busy with a lot of things and art-wise, it was stuff that I don't entirely deem FurAffinity-appropriate. Lots of dwarfs and human stuff |D But anyway...

I've refrained from keeping most of my online places informed on this, but today I can finally let all of you know:

I received word from a housing agency that by next wednesday I will receive keys to my own appartment. After 27 years, this bird is going to fly out and leave the nest.

My little 'dwarf cottage', as I like to call it, isn't much of a cottage :P It's a snug two-room appartment above a Chinese restaurant and part of a complex built on top of a shopping mall. As soon as I close the front door, I have a myriad of stores and a handy bus stop just at arm's reach.

I cannot begin to tell you all how stoked I am. I'm excited, nervous and also a little scared. Just half a year ago, I landed my first full-time job and now I am also getting this appartment. My independent life is now truly beginning.

After I get back from my annual two-week trip with my homies, I've got some serious work to do. The appartment needs painting, a decent floor and ofcourse furniture and decorations. I gotta make like Snow White and work hard, but I will definitely be whistling as I do it : )

I have been drawing, but it's nothing truly FA-worthy. So it's time to get a bit of fur flying.

Veertje is my most used nickname. It means Little Feather in Dutch.

I don't know her personally, but she's been through such medical struggles and quite a load of BS and she is still friendly.

Augh, tough question as I am very easily bored with my artwork. The pains of being a perfectionist. But with my last batch of journal freebies, I like where my freehand inking is going.

Backgrounds and symmetrical objects like robots, vehicles and buildings.

12. How many hours a day do you spend on FA?
I check every once in a few hours for updates every day.

"Your artwork makes me realize that my skills stink". Really, that's not cool.

16. What/who inspires you?
Music can be a big inspiration to me. Furthermore, I have an archive containing about 200+ artists from DA and FA who all have something that gets my creative juices going. Whenever I am in a slump, I browse a few folders and that cures it most of the time.

17. Everyone has considered leaving FA once or twice. Have you? Why?
Not really. I tend not to get involved in drama and from what I have gained, this site can have really friendly and awesome people.

It's been too long since I've posted something on here and since I've drawn anything that is technically 'allowed' here.

I'm gonna try and break that, so if you wanna give me a ref or two, I'll pick some at random and draw whichever character looks interesting. Don't expect anything too amazingly clean; just some loose sketches and stuff to get me warmed up : )
