Reformation/Overhaul Update
Posted 3 years agosketches and unstarted commissions will have completed inks by May 31st. Commissions at the colored stage will be completed by May 31st. All Advance commissions accepted during the Late Februrary, March, and April Cycles will be complete by June 30th.
The exceptions are the Halloween YCH and Cloud's Ranma animation which will need a time extension to July.
On the 1st of May, Trello will be updated to reflect 2022 timeframes as well all requests sorted into their appropriate trello card.
Tomorrow is also the last day for the May/June commission timeframe. If you file for a commission in May, Simple Tier commissions will be completed and delivered in June and Advance-Tier commissions in July.
For those interested in when these commissions will be uploaded, there will be a new schedule for those as well.
Commissions completed in May will be uploaded daily throughout June while commissions completed in June will be uploaded daily throughout July, etc etc.
Again, as a reminder for the month of May, Patreon is once again put on hold so I will NOT be collecting any money through it. It will return in June and will be updated to match the new tiers and prices presented in the previous "Reformation" Journal.

Reformation
Posted 3 years ago I am sorry.
For the past six months, no, longer I've been acting erratically and irrational. Output has been inconsistent, as has been my stream times and hours. Some days I'd burn the midnight oil running 12 to 15 hours, and then you have days like today where I've been sluggish and unfocused getting no work done.
A part of it can be attributed to the stress of personal parts of my life that are mostly kept under wraps. I lost an Uncle to complications from covid-19 while undergoing chemo-therapy treatment for cancer. He also lied to his doctor about taking the vaccine. His wife, my aunt who was heavily dependent on him is now alone and has been leaning on my family more for support. As well as my younger brother who has been struggling with employment and having a decent income themselves so again
another person to try and carry.
Another part of it is the fact that Tyrant has not been my only art investment, I have been working a second account under a different name, essentially doubling my work-load to make ends meet.
But neither of those things have had as much of an impact as much as the choice to take on all this work and my all or nothing approach to it. People, friends and family have told me time and time again that I was overdoing it. This line of work has been my only source of income for the past 8 years. Many people have come and gone, others have had as many as four jobs while I've been stuck with just the one. Sometimes I resent it I confess, much of that time is spent here in this house staring at these same four walls.
But that's on me, that was my choice as are all the unreasonable expectations I put upon myself that I couldn't hope to match even in my prime, and I'm not in my prime anymore. I make jokes about getting old, but the reality is that my stamina just ain't what it used to be.
Work in places has fallen behind and while I do put out work, it's never as consistent as it could be because I spend as much time crashed if not more as I am hitting the grind.
It's time to come to terms with reality and set more reasonable expectations for myself so I can stop freaking people out about my mental health
because despite everything that's been happening, I am fine...just tired, and disappointed in myself.
and Frustrated I keep falling short and failing the people who support me by only at best breaking even and at worst making them feel like I don't care anymore and leaving their unfinished wishes in some drawer gathering dust.
What's to be done.
The thing that has always surprised me, and something I feel I have taken for granted is how nobody has asked for a refund. I question it constantly and it's part of what keeps me restless at night. To say your patience has has been saintlike is an understatement and I am truly grateful for it.
There are a lot of things I want to do, and things I need to do, and there are things I will have to compromise on and I don't do well with compromise. It's always been all or nothing.
15-18 hours or 0
all week, or none.
and I always get frustrated when I stream and work on a picture, and don't hit all my goals so I end up going to overtime, and pay the price for it afterwards.
Four hour streams, twice a week.
working on a single picture
whether I finish it or not
Comms are going to get more breathing room and be spread out more timewise. People have been kind enough to give me more time, but I only need so much. The problem is that I don't make it clear how and when comms will be delivered as I tend to be semi-linear, but also inconsistent there as well.
My commission system and by extension my entire art methodology is being reformed. I had planned starting in May to introduce another price drop
$30 to $20
However, after a much needed and insightful conversation with another client, I have a better arrangement.
Comms will be made into a two-branch system. One for "Simple" comms and another for "Advanced" comms. Simple comms will have the new price drop, 20 per chara and 20 for color per chara. However. Advanced comms will return to pre-price drop levels of $50 per chara and 50 for color per character. This is how I plan to resolve the discrepancy with my prices and the inconsistency of my work quality.

I say these are fair examples of simple coloring as well
Advanced by comparison is as you might suspect, is far more rich in detail.

I cite these are my best color work that represent the advance tier
but that's just the art itself, how will I do the time.
It is admittedly the change I think will be most controversial. For simple works, it's one week per character, and one extra week for color per character. For advance works, it's two weeks per chara and another two for color per character. In regards to backgrounds, treat them as they were a character unto themselves, and so a background will also take an extra week or two depending on branch
this is how much time I expect a comm to take in reality not because it actually takes that long to work on, but because I am never just working on one comm However, that's not the end of it. Delivery dates.
I usually open commissions at the tail end of each month, while the start date is not consistent, it's around in that ballpark. The delivery date for single character simple comms will always be the last day of the following month after commissions are are ordered. Which will either be the 30th, 31st, or the 28th/29th in the case of February.
Two and three character commissions will be delivered on a bi-monthly basis, and then just add a month for every two characters after that.
As for when commissions actually open, it will be in the fourth quarter of every month, seven days prior to the last day of every month
and will close the first of the new month
In the case of this month, that's the 24th
What else. The ideaboard will not be discontinued. I will also reform it, only this time with the following. It will be single character only and simple-format, I WILL CHOOSE the theme, YOU CAN SUBMIT OCS, and two will be chosen at random by raffle wheel.
Those not picked will have to try again next time
Patreon will also be reformed, with tiers including the proper return of the high tiers with rewards only now in a scaled down form and with a similar time frame as commissions
I will refer to my Patreon as the War Chest,
$1 tier is the Vanguard
$3 tier are Captains
$5 are Champions, and get one simple base piece bi-monthly and I'll only allow 6 slots
$7 are Commanders and get one simple colored piece bi-monthly, also only 6 slots
$9 are Barons, and get one simple base piece monthly, 4 slots
$12 are the Princes, and get colored simple colored piece monthly, 4 slots
$18 are the Emperors, one advanced base piece bi-monthly, 2 slots
$37 are the Titans, one advanced colored piece bi-monthly, 2 slots
Champions and Commanders will have their rewards based on the ideaboard's monthly theme, so if the theme is Meido/Maids, Gothic Princess, Selfies, Android, Three Kingdoms, Warhammer 40k, etc, that is what you will have to get.
For Barons and above however, they may get any theme or idea they wish.
Those who still managed to keep their old supreme and ultimate boss roles, you are grandfathered in. Your rewards will not be fundamentally nerfed. I may ask you for more time, and you can choose to be a part of the theme of the month instead of your usual YCH.
Saying all this is one thing, implementing it is a whole 'nother beast.
Consistency is a skill like anything else and getting into the flow of it will take time
But if the goals are to still maintain my want to reward people for their support without burning myself out and cut downtime, then spreading things out more is the way to go.
The branch idea is also a compromise between my want to have competitively low prices with other artists without necessarily giving up my want for more detailed polished art.
Having finally said ALL of that...maybe I have your thoughts please?
