Two Months
Posted 13 years agoWow...its been two months since Max died. I was doing so well, starting to upload some pictures often, feeling really motivated to break out my camera every weekend... but then... yeah. Loosing the thing you love to photograph the most is hard. I didn't want to get out my camera, because his pictures were still on the card. I didn't want to go edit any pictures, because his unprocessed pictures were waiting there. So I didn't. I'd use my camera only for required school functions. I'd complete my project, move those files to the computer, and leave the rest of the card untouched.
The week before he died, I posted that I was moving to another account and reposting my old pictures...but I can't do it. It may sound stupid, but those time-stamps on when I posted things matter to me. Instead, I've decided all my new stuff will be posted there, and this account will stay as a time capsule of sorts.
Thank you all for the fun times.
See you over there.

squabbitEnd of a semester.
Posted 13 years agoWell, another semester is over. Grades were a lot better than normal this time. I made more friends this semester than the rest of high school and college. And I've decided on going for a double major: Digital Film-making and Broadcast Journalism.
Something has been on my mind all week though. I miss the 'end of the year' feeling from high school. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE being out of high school. But those last couple days before a long break were always great. Everyone having parties. All the classes becoming places to chat with friends. And the thing I miss the most is watching the clock tick down to on the last minute of the last day. Just the energy in the air that everyone waiting for that one moment creates.
College doesn't have it.
In college, you don't go 8am to 3pm (well, most people don't >.> I do... till 5pm) And you don't have the same classes every day. And to top it off, for finals week they rearrange your class structure, moving your class times around. Now instead of everyone waiting to go on the last day, everyone is leaving whenever they're done. Middle of test time and finish early? That's the start of your summer. Its missing the party.
Well last night a large section of my news group decided to have an end of semester/birthday party for one of the people who just turned 21. We went to a local 'restaurant' (county law says you can't open a bar. but you can sell alcohol at a restaurant if you pay for the license) called The Draft. Good place, great drinks, lots of friends chatting about how the semester went. Then we all left at the same time and went home (where I imagine all of us passed out. we got quite drunk. Yay having a driver!). It was a great end to the semester.
in other news, I'm 24 on the 17th. yay me.

Moving Accounts...slowly.
Posted 13 years agoI've decided to move accounts. Why? Because this account name is so random (well not really, there are reasons I picked it, but it looks random).
My stuff will be moved to
Squabbit . I've had that account for a while, but never used it because...well...I don't know really.
But I'm lazy.
So, if you want to keep watching me, check out over there. I won't be deleting stuff here, but I will be re-uploading my old pictures as I get around to it. Most likely in the order I uploaded them in the first place. With a lot of stuff going into scraps.
See you around.

What A Day
Posted 13 years agoWow. That was quite the day.
Its already a couple days after Hurricane Isaac passed though Arkansas, and we have been pelted with rain every day since. Well today was the icing on the cake.
I was delivering pizzas for my store. Had been all day. About noon the rain started to fall. It came down hard and heavy, and thanks to the wind, sideways. It would rain for ten minutes, then clear up for five. Off and on like that all day. Though all this we kept delivering. Why? Because people want their pizza, and nobody should be on the road when the rain is so heavy that it looks like you're driving though milk. Then suddenly, around 7pm.. BAM. Lightning strikes the main power source for main street. 90% of our small town is suddenly out of power. The store's back up power kicks in, we still have enough juice in the computers to run another hour. Just enough time to deliver the pizzas that are already out of the oven. They hand me my last delivery of the night.
I take off for the delivery. It was in one of the more remote parts of town, down one of those famous country back roads. I start driving down till I'm suddenly stopped by a fell tree across the road. Well my little Honda certainly can't get over that....so I jump out, grab the lighter end of the tree, and with all my might, push it, pivoting the tree till it was on the side of the road. Still in the pouring rain, I jumped back into the car and started back down the road.
Less than a mile had passed when I started to smell smoke. Badly. I thought my car had a branch or something under it, so I jumped out again, looked under...spotted nothing. I looked up and look at that... a tree branch was leaning onto a power line, on fire, and looked like the line was the only thing holding it from falling onto a house. . I quickly ran to the door and banged on it. .... a couple times... till this elderly lady opened the door. I informed her of the tree and the danger. She thanked me and called 911. With that covered, I jumped back into my car and drove the rest of the way to the delivery.
They were thankful and tipped 10$.
When I was driving back, the fire truck was already there and had things taken care of. The old lady smiled and waved to me as I waved back. I made my way back to the store, cashed out, and was sent home two hours early. Not much work you can do when you're out of power.

New Equpiment
Posted 13 years agoI'm so excited. On top of my Canon 60D body and EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.4 IS lens, I just bought a Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM and a 50mm f/1.4 USM lens. I also bought a Manfrotto tripod with the 055XPROB legs and 701HDV fluid head.
I know this is gibberish to almost everyone who will look at this journal, but I'm finally moving up to some semi-serious stuff here. I now have a lens fast enough to shoot indoors at low light (will be posting pictures of that soon), and a lens long enough to take pictures from a mid-far distance. I also have a seriously nice tripod. I'm excited. I now feel equipped enough to do a job. All I'm missing is an external flash, but I don't like using those anyway. (that don't mean it isn't on my list of to-buys though..) Hopefully I can start putting up advertisements or my parent's friends will maybe need someone to do some camera work. Maybe make back some money to pay this stuff off, or pay off my student loans.
On a side note: For anyone in the Arkansas area who is looking for pictures done, I'd be more than happy to give it a shot. Animals, people, events, whatevers, just send me a note.

Trick to a friendly cat.
Posted 13 years agoFleas.
yes fleas, the stupid bugs.
Our cat Max has never been much of a cuddly cat. He's one of those "you'll pet me when I want to be petted" cats. Sadly, as of yesterday, we found fleas on him. We've already started the treatments to fix it, but they're still crawling around in his long hair. The funny thing is, our "leave me alone" cat is now mewing and rubbing against my legs, climbing on my desk, and crawling under my hands.
Who would of thought a little bit of uncomfortableness would be the key to bringing him around to being petted.

Just Do It
Posted 13 years agoEver been worried to do something because you don't want to make a fool of yourself? Ever thought you weren't good enough for the job you were given?
Just do it.
Last week I had to do a project for class. Had to conduct an interview, then assemble it for a news package (a 1-2 minute segment). Now, I've never done an interview, and I've always been shy, and I've never been good at believing my work is any good. But it was for class, so I arranged the interview (after having a stare-down with my phone before the finally calling), then conducted the interview (shaking like a lost puppy while giving it), then shot cut-ins (also shaky because I was still shaking). I got home, looked at the footage, and realized I only had about 45 seconds of useable footage (out of 15 minutes filmed) and even using that would be like putting together a 10,000 piece jigsaw puzzle after it was hit with a flamethrower.
But I did it. I spent all night finding those couple parts I could use, then recorded a voice over to fill in the intro I forgot to film. But its now almost 8am, and I just exported it. Done. And looking better than I expected. I'm proud to say I think its even on-air worthy.
The point is. If you think you can't talk to people. If you think you arn't skilled enough. Even if you don't know what you're doing...just try. Just do it. You'll never get better till you push yourself.

23 and counting!
Posted 14 years agoYup, that time of the year again. 12/17/2011 and I'm 23! I'm excited about the year ahead and all that stuff!
Also, I've been looking into buying some commissions...but I don't have paypal. If you know of any other ways, please pass them on? Also, if you know anyone who would accept steam games as payment, I can do that too!

Action Tower Defense
Posted 14 years agoWow! The last couple months have been GREAT for Steam games on sale! Alpha Protocol, Metro 2033, RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, Red Faction Guerrilla and Armageddon, Frozen Synapse, Orcs Must Die!, Dungeon Defenders....I'm sure I picked up a couple others also...but all those had been on sale for 25-75% off. Soooo....I did some stocking up on games...not that I'm worried about running out any time soon with Battlefield3, MW3, Dark Souls, Arkham City, and Skyrim out now or coming before Christmas.
From that list, I think my top two have both come from the Action Tower Defense genre: Orcs Must Die, and Dungeon Defenders. In both, you control your character on the ground with his sword or crossbow or magic spells like a typical action adventure. However, you also have the ability to place defenses to fight the waves of baddies. In Orcs, your equipped with a spellbook full of wicked traps; Arrow walls, tar pits, spike traps and the like to line the roofs, floors, and hallways you must defend, and when those don't work...your crossbow works as well as any 3rd person shooter would. Wickedly fun with devious humor this game is. Dungeon Defenders takes the idea a different direction. It ups the experience to 4player co-op and heavier RPG elements. Leveling up, treasure hunting, and class based tower building brings teamwork to the front.
The BEST part about these two gems? the 15$ price tag (without discount). Sure they ain't blockbuster billion dollar games...but they are FUN. And really, isn't that what you want from a game sometimes?

Safty First
Posted 14 years agoToday work awarded me with a gift card for 1000 Accident Free Hours! I went home and spent it on a game about hacking at zombies with machetes, spraying bullets into a crowd of undead, and even jumping into a truck to run over those pesky brain-eaters. That's right, Dead Island! Still on per-order at the time of this post, but just a day away.
I've been looking forward to this game ever since that cool teaser trailer earlier in the year. Lets hope the game is better than some other buys last year *glares at Brink*
In other news: SKYRIM. ... <.< .... I already have it per-ordered. I'd say more, but my brain fries just thinking about the game.
In OTHER, more important news: I have a mate! Asariel_Wolfess She is just so awesome! <3

Movie A Day
Posted 15 years agoWow, almost a whole year since my last journal? I should update more often.
Anyway, the reason I'm posting a journal here is to announce my new goal for the year.
Watch at least one movie a day for a whole year.
Why? Because I'm in classes for film-making, and I watch a surprisingly low amount of movies.
Why post this? I need movie ideas! Please make suggestions! All genres, new and old. I want to expand my list of watched movies. I have Netflix so I can get hold of almost anything.
T = seen in theater
* = new to me
Dec 8, 2010: Tangled | T* | I enjoyed this movie! It actually had the feel of the old Disney musicals. And the animations were beautiful.
Dec 9, 2010: Paranormal Activity | T* | It was ok. I have nothing against slow movies, but I found myself playing video games and just pausing for the night vision parts.
Dec 10, 2010: Hoodwinked! | One of my favorite animated movies ever. Full of charm and old school cartoon references. Everyone should see this one.

Snow!
Posted 15 years agoWell, its snowing...again.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the snow. Its beautiful and fun to walk around in. However, it has snowed more this winter than it has in the last 18 years I've been in Arkansas. Again, it wouldn't be a real problem, BUT it just happened to come on the day that I wasn't at my apartment.
"no big deal," you may say. "they'll clear the roads soon."
nope. not in Arkansas. You see, snow is so infrequent here that we don't have salt trucks or snowplows. Also nobody knows how to drive in the snow. So combine untreated roads with bad drivers and you get a really dangerous situation.
edit: how much snow? 3-4 inches. not much? its more than we normally get in a year.
Things I can't do to:
*apply for food stamps. my interview is today at 2:15. I don't see myself making it.
*put money down for Bioshock 2. I'm sure there will be copies in all the stores, but I like to prepay for games. There's just something about walking into a store, grabbing a game and [legally] leaving without paying that feels special.
*Get my missing text books. After a couple weeks of classes, I found i never bought one of my books and another was stolen. I reordered with 1 day shipping and they should be here today. It all depends on if UPS runs in the snow.
*buy stuff to make cookies. I promised a military friend that I would send him so cookies. But I don't even have flower here. So that's going to have to wait as well.
*play Fable 2. A good friend just bought it on friday, but I've been at my family's house instead of my apartment. I took my 360 with me, but didn't grab that game.

21st B-Day!
Posted 16 years agoYup! At 7am, Dec. 17, 2009 I will be 21 years old. I'm happy. What am I going to do? Play more games!
Yeah, it don't sound like much, but I've been so busy lately that I am tired and ready to relax. Between finishing out the college semester, moving out of the apartment, transfering to another college and looking for an apartment near the new school, I'm almost dead tired.
I also know what i'm getting for christmas for the first time, its a laptop. I had to help pick out the one I want. I don't get to open it yet, but I still have it on Christmas.
UPDATE: So, for my birthday I got 2 new wireless xbox 360 controllers, 20$, and a 10$ Sonic gift card [my fav fast food place], a dinner at my fav Italian restaurant, and a chocolate-chip cookie dough ice cream cake. Its been a good day.

Posted 16 years agoI've been busy lately. About a week after that last journal about not being able to get a job, I got a job....doing the same thing I have been for the last couple summers...but at a different store in town. Yay easy money! Anyways, school has started again. It started a couple weeks back, but I was so busy that I never really had time to do anything.
So where to begin...Oh! When I got back from summer break there were 2 new families living in the downstairs apartments of my place. [its one building devided into 4 apartments, two up and two down] Well already person was voted out of the building [after getting drunk and punching someone] and another is being evicted after someone threw a rock through their window...twice. Sooooo soon I'll be alone again in the apartments. Go figure.
Got some games in the last couple weeks on X-Box Live Arcade! First game I got: Zombie Apocalypse. Awesome game. Simple and fun with lots of fast action but still a good way to relax. The view is isometric and you use the left stick to run, right stick to aim and fire your guns, triggers to chainsaw. Simple and effective. Like a flash game but with really awesome graphics.
The second game I got just last night: Trials HD : Its a physics based motorcycle puzzle/time trial game. Speed from one end of the track to the next as quick as possible using reflexes and percise movments or else you go KA-BOOM....or just fall off the level. and you don't have to worry about falling off track because it be side scrolling [full 3D world effects though]. The first couple levels are easy, but the difculity really ramps up later on when you have to start doing flips or pushing over bridges to get across and things like that. Also has a level creator. I haven't done anything with it yet, but I just KNOW there is going to be some hard stuff there.
Oh! Also, I just finished a Chemistry test. Ever take a test where you are so close to perfect that it hurts? Well I turned in the test and was feeling like it was a 100% A+ all the way. got in my car, started driving home, realized I forgot to check something on the last problem! So if I get a 100 or a 98 will depend on if the teacher made the problem easy or threw in the thing I forgot to check [limiting reactant for those interested (I know none of you out there are x3)]
So yeah, off to another class! Hope to be making more stuff soon to upload!

Get a Job?
Posted 16 years agoSo, this summer isn't quite going as planed. When I left for school last summer, I was told I would have a job waiting where I was working before. However, it wasn't. Seems shortly after I left, someone got promoted to manager, they hired someone to take his place, and the new manager then got demoted again. Sooooooo all spots are filled. they also gave me some bs about not re-hieing people....bleh.
Anyways, now the summer is half over and I still can't find a job in my area. Why? Well that depends on who you ask. My parents say I'm not trying hard enough. Perhaps thats true. I think the problem is there are a couple thousand students getting off for summer break and only a couple hundred places that hire in the area. Thats the problem with growing up in a fast growing small town. And we can't forget this economy is so down right now that companies don't want to hire in the first place.
Why am I typing this? Because I'm frustrated that I can't get a job and because I'm being hounded by parents for not having a job. I understand I don't have money coming in, but I saw this coming before school let out and stopped spending money. So I still have a bit in the bank, but it will be tight. Things will be fine though. I have plans for money during school. Type up some reports, help people with math homework. Things will be fine, but money will be tight. Just remember: Don't Panic.

Out for Summer
Posted 16 years agoSchool is out for summer. I am back home.
What a semester of classes. My GPA is almost where it needs to be [at 3.17, need 3.25], I'm at a place that has food, the family has a new kitten, I just got new origami paper, and I decided my major is going to be digital film. So here is to another summer. Hope you all the best of luck....perhaps I'll start swimming again this year.

Art!
Posted 16 years agoZomg I've been on a roll. All the stuff from that art flood was posted the same day it was made. I blame finals week. High stress = need for stress outlet. Soooo more origami! Also, I've decided I'm going to post more stupid comics. trying for one a week. Probly won't be great, but it will be practice and an excuse to post more.
1000 Page Views
Posted 17 years agoSo...got it finally. The big one thousand. I should be happy. 1k page views, birthday coming up in a week, Christmas just around the corner, school about to end.....
but I'm not.
Anyone ever tell you finals week sucks? Well it does. Its Monday night of finals week and I may of just blew getting a scholarship...again. Its a nice one too, a nice transfer scholarship with full tuition to a couple colleges of my choice. I guess I should explain.....
[start of boring college story]
A year and a half ago [fall 07] I started culinary classes at my college. I had a full tuition scholarship as long as I could keep a 2.5 GPA and full time student. Too bad I found out I get sick when cutting up meat and had to drop half the classes, loosing the scholarship with it. Spring 08, the next semester, I changed to work towards my AA degree. Having lost my scholarship and coming into my second semester of college with a 2.08 GPA, I was half a year behind and already on an uphill battle. However, I worked at it. I took the classes I needed to take and did the best I could. When the end of year one rolled around, I was back up to a 3.08 GPA. Fall 08, [this one] keeping on working. I took more classes and started to study more seriously because I found if I get my GPA up to a 3.25 I could transfer out and get another scholarship. I worked hard. Allllllll semester I did my best to get to the goal. Now finals is here and I may of just tripped at the finish line.
You see, before finals started I had five Bs and 2 As. Doing the math I found three of the Bs can be pulled up to As if I do good this last week. Test one today was English Comp 2. Writing class. I think I aced it. It should be pulled from B to A. Test two, History of Music....I fell on my face. The test consisted of 25 multiple choice questions and 4 pages of writing. The first half was easy, I know I aced that, but the writing...I'll be lucky if I made a 70% on this test. If thats the case, I just dropped music to a C and made the job of 3.25 that much harder. To top it off, the next three days have one test each. Tomorrow is Physical Science where if I make 100% on the test I make an A for the class, if I make a 99% I keep a B. Wednesday is History II, a 100 question test from hell and a written essay that I still need to do. If I make an A on the paper and at least a 70 on the test I can get an A. And final day is English Lit, a writing test that as long as I make a B on the paper I keep an A.
I know most of you are saying I'm over-reacting and still have good grades. Well...yeah...but to be on the edge of free school or more loans...and the difference is one stupid class...sure I still have respectable grades, but I don't have money. Just that one step up would really help the second problem. You know? To need 3.25 and end with 3.20 will suck. And with my luck, its possible.
[end story]
Well happy 1000 page views, being #1 on rock band 2, and upcoming birthday to me. Merry Christmas to the rest of you.
Thanks helping me get to 1000.

Time for reflection again.
Posted 17 years agoWell its about that time of year again. The time when school takes a break for winter, the time where we visit family for the holidays, and the time of my birthday.
So...school is ending for the semester! Yay month off! I think I'm going to *sigh* stay in the middle of nowhere another semester. I have a nice [free] apartment here and classes are cheap. So I think I'm going to stay and finish up my AA degree. From there I can transfer to another school...hopefully with a transfer scholarship.
As far as family goes...mixed thoughts this year. It was the first year I was able to avoid going to my aunt's house for thanksgiving. I don't like her...but I do feel bad for not visiting the rest of the family. They're nice...they play a little rough...but are nice. Next coming holiday is Christmas [if you didn't know this....stop lying to yourself] and I'm not sure where the family is going. We may be going to visit my mom's dad or he may come visit. I hope its the second. He don't have internet, and I like to wake up in my bed on Christmas morning. As for presents, this year I'm hopeing for a new Rock Band 2 guitar! My GH3 Les Paul and RB1 both broke! Thats what I get for rocking too hard I guess. Rock on!
Then theres my birthday....turning the big 20 on the 17th of this month. No longer a teen...but not an adult! Yay for a year in limbo! But yeah...getting older...still don't feel like it. Why? Well lets go through the college student checklist:
go to parties - [ ]
get drunk- [ ]
have a mate - [ ]
ok....sure there are things like studying and learning...and I got that down, but life is so dull. Think about it, live alone, 30 minute drive from anything, no tv [just internet], and going to a college that is more then 50% people 10+ years older then me. Oh well...perhaps I'll spend next semester learning to do more elaborate origami and drawing. Yeah right, I'll end up wasting my time on Rock Band 2 again.
Speaking of...I have a picture that I reallllly want done. It be me playing Rock Band 2 instruments. *cute eyes* lol, I don't expect anyone to actually take me up on this offer, but I'd be up for an art trade. I can work with origami [if you have a creature I can fold I can then color it and make comics] or make awful attempts to draw. If by some strange chance that you would be up to it, just tell me.
Well thats it for another journal post. I imagine most people have stopped reading by now....so yeah...OH! Almost to 1000 page views! Didn't think that would ever happen. xD

Easy come, easy go.
Posted 17 years agoSo I got Mouser last Sunday. I took him to my apartment, took some pictures, got him all the stuff cats need...a litter box, food, a scratching board with catnip...all that stuff. Everything was good...until that night came.
I realized I had gotten an outdoor cat. This caused two problems. One, he is a higher energy cat and likes to run around outside, and I'm in an apartment where there is no room to run. The second problem is cats like to be awake at night. I need the little sleep I get.
I also found out, the cat is allergic to smoke. Now I don't smoke. I actually have trouble breathing when in direct contact with smoke. But about the second day at my apartment, I realized the cat sneezing a lot by Tuesday his nose was covered almost completely in dry snot, and by this morning he was breathing through his mouth. But before you say I was evil to let it get that bad, I had decided to take him back on Monday night, but didn't have a way to do it.
There were other problems too, like him having a habit of jumping onto whatever it was that wasn't him in my lap. This caused a riped school paper and many computer programs to shut down. And the problem of my apartment being too small to have a litter box...ick.
So I took him back to my friend that gave him to me. Now based on what I have said before, this should have been easy and happy, being that all logic says it would be a bad idea to keep the cat here, but when you have to get back and pack up stuff like the string he liked to case around, or his food and water bowl, and the fact that everything he did was cute....even when it was a bother....Its still tough to do.
Now I know most of you have stopped reading by now. Probably skipped a paragraph or two. Thats ok, I would have also. But what I was trying to get to, was I learned a good bit from all this. I learned that what you want isn't always what you need. I learned that you don't need to get something that requires attention if you already have something that requires all your attention...like school work. And I also learned I don't want a kid for another ten years at least. Now you may not see the connection between this and the other lessons...but when you get a new living thing in your house living with you that requires you to survive, and you look at this thing and think "I'm so glad I can take you back in a couple days," ....then you really don't need a kid. Because a kid will take twenty times the attention and care as a cat would, and there is no ethical way to return a kid. I'm just not that mature yet. So I'm going to go back to my studies and my games and take a deep breath and hit myself for using 'and' so many times in one sentence without commas. :P
