Necklace!
Posted 11 years agoSo my necklace finally arrived in the mail today! ^^
It's a pretty running fox necklace that I didn't think I'd see again. I once bought a necklace that had a little running fox pendant on it when I went to Taxco one year and then one day I lost it. I thought I'd never see it again because of the mess that is going on in Guerrero, but I looked up online and found that the necklace design was originally from a place called HoardersWorld and ordered one! It took a while, but it finally arrived! The first necklace I had meant a lot to me, since I would wear it on many special occasions and have it to show my love for foxes. Now I have a new one, which is surprisingly more detailed than the one I originally had.
What's interesting is that there was taffy in the package. It was tasty. Gave me ideas for a TF trigger. xD

Stuff!
Posted 11 years agoHey!
I haven't made a journal in ages! I guess it could be a good thing sometimes. :P
So, recently I drew a TF thingy that I had an idea of for a while, featuring uh, me? I've actually been thinking up of ideas for doodles and drawings based on the same idea. Basically a "what if?" kind of thing. Not sure if I'll actually get to it, but it sounds kinda fun. :P I've been busy with school as well. My current schedule is now in mid-day (12pm-6pm) so there's less time to do stuff, unfortunately. However, weekends really prove themselves as alleviating!
Best get back to homework and trades now! cya!

Keep hearing voices yelling, "August!"
Posted 12 years agoIt's a good thing I assure you. Since some scene keeps repeating in my head that involves some unmentioned characters calling out August's name for some reason.
So I'm back on the dilemma of being between writing or drawing. I know that Vix will not be entirely canon locked to the Silhouettes project, but the main thing is that I really, really want to get it working. I'm writing in notebooks the ideas I get every day. For velokins, aliluks, and humans. I've really got to get a move on and turn all my maps and clumsily written notes into actual writing. :P The novel is...all over the place right now. But it would be great to have a nice organized story with August's crazy shapeshifty adventure through Pine Valley and his encounters with everything. ...Did I mention that I'm trying to invent a fictional language? Can't talk much about it yet though, but I can tell you that I am amazed by how languages work and what makes them unique. Linguistics is interesting.
In other ramblings, I've started skating again! ^^ I've been trying out slalom the last year. It's a lot of fun, I just know a handful of maneuvers through the cones, but I'm getting better. The good thing is that I'm just one month away from getting a good pair of skates for myself since I've had to borrow a pair from my brother. And they are not comfortable at all. :P
My winter break is ending in a week for me. So I believe I'll be a little more occupied for the next few months. That may mean less activity from studies, or more activity from procrastination. It'll depend on my willpower. hah! Either way, I'm still going to put up the same orange annotation on my profile I had last semester.
I guess that's it, glad you could sit and listen! Later!

Why AGF-5 is taking so long to make.
Posted 12 years agoI'm currently trying again to get on with AGF-5 but the problem is that I keep changing with what I want to do with it. I mean, coming up with a TF sequence for an inexperienced shapeshifter is somehow difficult. I keep restarting and restarting. I'm not abandoning the thing, I've just been having trouble with actually doing it. Hopefully I can have actual thumbnails ready later. This is like one of the only parts that's gotten hard to get a move on. :P
Nevertheless, I'm trying. So, that's good news right? Also, I'm new to drawing deer so um, yeah, that's also a sort of factor. At least the deering will last for I think around 2 other pages after page 5.
In other news, I got money for a new pair of skates! I just need to order them which will be at the end of this month! I really miss skating, happy to get back to it. :3

Fursona meme, why not?
Posted 12 years agoWhat is your Fursona's name?
His name is Vix. :3 I got the name idea from a Wikipedia article one day when it said that male foxes were known as vixes, so I thought, "Hey, I like that!"
What made you choose the species of your main fursona?
I had loved foxes for so long, when I around 15 I attempted to draw foxes, and then just began to draw a fox that represented myself in some imaginary world. I didn't know about the fandom at the time, but he was my internet representation. He turned out to be fandom-compatible.
Is your fursona just like you, or how you want to be?
I think a mix of both. Vix does have some of my personality flaws, but he's a bit less socially anxious.
Does your fursona have the same personality you have?
Yeah.
Does your fursona have the same dislikes and likes as you do?
More like similar. I like to explore the internet and learn new things, while he likes to run out of the forest and explore the outside and learn new things. Although, he steals stuff and I don't.
Does your fursona look like you at all?
Highly doubt it. Unless you count the fact that I usually wear black jeans with brown boots. :P
Is your fursona the same gender as you, if not why?
Yep, we're both male. Although for a time in the past he was somehow a little gender fluid without realizing it. Minor setback when it comes to being a feral artist. It was nice though.
Do you have more then one main fursona?
Yeah, I got Ialo the deertaur.
Do you have a back story for your fursona, if so does it have anything to do with your own history?
Yes, but kinda? I'm not entirely sure.
However, Ialo is very tied to my experience in living in the city. Since I'm a really quiet, slightly awkward, introverted type who is American but not obviously; a secret deertaur in a big city is a nifty idea. Seriously, when people here (Mexico City) find out I'm American, they bring up so many questions, I might as well write a FAQ page. :P Which is why I gave Ialo the earring that turns him into an anthro allowing him to roam the city without getting too many stares or being asked so many questions. I know they're distant concepts but they're somehow a little related.
Is your fursona mated, if so is it to your real life significant other?
He's not mated.
If not are they looking for a mate, or are they a swinger so to speak?
Not really, he's kinda asexual and only out for friendship. :P
Is there something special about your fursona that you think sets them apart from others?
Foxtaurness, the color patterns without being a sparkledog, the aliluk thing, and his mismatching colors. He's a purty foxy. :3
Do you have much art of your main fursona/s?
Plenty. Although Ialo could use more artwork.
Would you ever consider parting with your main fursona, if so why?
Never, although Ialo is being ignored. I need to fix that.
If you suit, do you have a suit of your main fursona?
I don't suit, but I totally would have one of Vix.
Have you ever roleplayed with your main fursona, or do you prefer not to?
I have before, though I don't really RP much. Very time consuming and kinda awkward. Unless you know about my Silhouettes lore and are willing to help me gain ideas for stories in that universe. I'd be happy for that kind of RP, though nobody knows a lot of the Silhouettes lore except for very few friends.
Do you consider your main fursona to be a part of you in any way?
He's a huge part of me. In a sense, not only is he a sort of alter ego, but he is also something like an imaginary friend who has given me strength to morally make it through hard times in my life. He's almost like an escape vehicle and a way to gain a second perspective when it comes to hard decisions. He is really important to me.

Should I show what I've written about Sillhouettes?
Posted 12 years agoI've been working on my Silhouettes project by writing down my ideas, however I've been pretty protective about it since I've been told it's something like novel material.
So, should I post stuff here about aliluks, velokins, velokin culture and other things? Or should I just wait until I begin the webcomic?
I'm on a dilemma, I may not have the time now because of some work, but sooner or later I will begin with the Silhouettes project.
Also, I'm thinking of paying for commissions, but that's for when I reopen a bank account.

You know what there should be?
Posted 12 years agoA sort of raffle site.
Like, it's dedicated to raffling artwork. Almost like a social network that links to your art profiles. Where you host a raffle and it branches out by invites to it rather than journal reposts. I dunno, I think it would be an interesting idea. It could even have built in random number generators or even more. Just saying...

Happy Birthday Christmas babies!
Posted 12 years agoThere are so many Merry Christmas journals I wanted to be different. *hipster*
Also there are people out there who's birthdays are today and they don't have much of a good experience.
But hey, I wish you guys a Merry Christmas. Hope you get lots of presents! I was just given money. .-.

Still alive.
Posted 12 years agoJust wanted to check in and say that I'm still around. I've just been kinda busy lately since I decided to take up a sort of job in programming. It's been consuming most of my time lately so I guess I've gotten behind in drawing lately. I've been doodling a bit in my sketchbook, and I've got a few candidates to color up. :3 Hopefully I can get that done soon. You can catch me on twitter if you want to see me ramble as well -> https://twitter.com/Vixthefox. I should host a stream sometime.
Oh, I recently closed my bank account, since I decided to switch banks. So I'll be closing commissions until further notice. Not that I actually had any requests... xD

Winter break journal
Posted 12 years agoWelp, I'm on winter break. That means that I'll be setting out to start on doing things that I've wanted to do.
For one, I'm doodling thumbnails for the next AGF pages. :3 (you can read what there is so far here.) and also I'm trying to work on a request I got on dA, and then maybe warm up for art trades. :3
In other news, I'm feeling pretty good. A little art blocked but pretty good. I hope this break will be productive.

[Midnight Ramblings] Showing furry art IRL and fursuits.
Posted 12 years agoWhy do I feel scared of showing people my furry art in real life, but have absolutely no problem with complete strangers to look at my art? I mean, isn't having a stranger judge you a little creepy? I'm pretty ok with how my art is but I get nervous of showing it off to others since it doesn't exactly look perfect. Also, for the stuff that has taurs, TFs, and oddities well, I get scared to show that to real life people, but with internet strangers I'm totally fine. What's with that? I mean, it's just artwork, right? But then why do I get so shy about it? I guess it's the confrontation of a physical person vs. the text substituting a person's presence. :P Ok, I guess it's more obvious.
Also, if I were to commission a fursuit, should it be of Vix or Ialo? Just wondering. I think I will get a fursuit some day, either by commission or by actually attempting to make it myself (which wouldn't be a good idea since the last time I tried to sew was a complete disaster...). I do think having a fursuit is an awesome thing. I mean, it's like the greatest way to pretty much be you character, since you're being the character physically. Some day...some day....
I'd like to commission a partial, it'd be awesome. Too bad I've got a long list of stuff I'm saving up for...
Well, best at least try huh?
So um, any local builders? I know about one, though I like knowing about the other options there are.

Vacations.
Posted 12 years agoThey're very, very close!
I got surprises for this week, the bad kind. Mainly that I didn't make it through last week's round of finals and am now going to have to take the 2nd round... *quietly sobs*
At least I'm a bit more prepared for this round, I'm guessing I'm going to end up doing what I did last semester. But anyway I want to talk about what I want to do for this vacation.
I'm going to take up cheap commissions! As in the price range will be between $2-$5! Why? Well, I still kinda depend off of my parents but during the vacation they cut me off because I don't "need money"...but I kinda do! Well, sorta...I'm saving up for something, and currently the bank I use charges $100MX a month because of this stupid insurance policy they forced on me. ¬¬
In other tidbits I've been wondering about SAI alternatives. I know about FireAlpaca though it's a bit hard to get used to, mainly because of SAI's ability to change the settings for the stylus buttons. On SAI I like to set one of the buttons for panning and the other for rotating. The cool thing about it is that you can set it so the hand/rotation tool doesn't stay as the tool and returns to the last tool you were using when you release the button. I can't really do that in other places, so I'll have to try to get used to other things. I'm wondering about SAI alternatives because I don't want to stay with one program to draw. I mean, SAI is awesome, but one day it might age a bit. I can't really get a grasp on Photoshop or Corel, though it'd be nice to try out. For now I'm trying to figure out how to work with FireAlpaca and Manga Studio.
Also, Wacom's new range of tablets look really cool. I wish I had a Mac... xD
Welp, I think that's pretty much it. I'm returning to my studies. Cya!
Bayes Theorem...Poisson...Normal Distribution.... *headdesks*

In other news, I'm trying to draw humans, which is really hard, but it can be rewarding! :3

Midnight doodles, midnight ramblings.
Posted 12 years agoI can't sleep. I drank 4 cups of coffee today because I was falling asleep all day for some reason.
Currently, I'm studying for a couple of tests coming up on Monday. Hopefully, they'll go well.
For now at the moment, I've been having some more ideas for doodles. It's 1:12 AM I guess it's time to take a break and try to do midnight doodles since I seem to be in the late night mood.
I've always wanted to draw a sort of satyr thing. Like a fox-satyr. They look awesome. Or maybe a personal TF thing. That would be freakin' awesome. Though, then I just get way too shy about it and just quick only to never show such work to anyone. Also, I'm not really that confident about how I look. I mean, there are some things that I do like. But in the majority of the general, I'm just not too comfortable with my image. :P I wish I had a better hair style (or an actual hair style rather than the messy puff disaster I've got right now...), and that I had (sadly) a bit of a better body. I'm just a little awkward, scrawny, and I seem to have been beginning to gain a little weight...
heh. I realized that with the pseudo-name I give myself (Dannick Fox) somehow I seem to have created another sort of persona. Not exactly a sort of alter-ego but more of a sort of idealization of myself. I mean, Dannick Fox is like the cool looking kind of guy who's a furry, with like, control over the worlds of the Silhouettes canon and the world of which Ialo and Marco reside, being totally capable of just showing up in either place because he just can. Yet I say that I'm Dannick Fox, but I'm not really, yet I am...if that makes any sense... I think, I mean I AM Dannick Fox because I like how it rings, but I'm not what you'd expect as someone who has that name.
I'm guess if I ever actually make this pseudo-persona an actual persona, I might as well just play around with it. I really have absolutely no idea what to do now in the fandom. I'd love to have something to mess around with, and be more included into my artwork. I've been trying, but the problem is that I'm just not sticking. Maybe that's a little problematic. I've been trying to get to it. Can't seem to fix much of it.
I guess I'm a little lost and stuck in where I am right now. Perhaps that's what's been inspiring a lot about Relx's adventures through his switches between his life as a human and a velokin. Switching between two worlds that collide against each other with the closest friendships in both. Attempting to gain some kind of significant reputation not in one, but in both of these worlds, causing him to fall into a lot of trouble and personal crisis.
I'm just going to stop writing now and try doodling. I could fall into depression if I keep rambling...

On raffling, and ramblings on popularity.
Posted 12 years agoI've never really known how effective a raffle hosting is, though by the looks of it, it really brings a lot of attention.
I've tried to host a few before, though I deleted the journals before anyone could actually see them. Heh.
On that note, I guess it's going to be difficult for a few to try to stand out. Though, I guess I'll end up unaffected since I never really depended off of it.
It's difficult to stand out, though there is a comfort of going unnoticed. For example:
- There's no need to fear of being judged by thousands and getting your many weird interests criticized by them harshly. With a handful of watchers, you get some some pretty good feedback and plenty of constructive criticism, along with a minimal amount of "wat" reactions.
- The concern for art-theft is rather tiny (unless you're an awesome artist, then it's pretty harsh...)
- You may not have fans, but you've got plenty of friends.
- Your inbox is way easier to go through, and you can even answer every comment!
I'm not saying that you shouldn't try to be popular, I'm just saying that you should enjoy what you got right now. Because it can be both a nice helper, and a great comfort in the meantime you get there.
So how could one get popular? I have no idea.
Though it does help to join groups, post comments (pretty much everywhere), and draw art, lots of it. Actually, try submitting around 2-4pm and avoid weekends. I've had some pretty good luck with Wednesdays for some reason. And show your best work. Heck, try to go to a furmeet/con. You can meet a lot of furries and get a tiny little boost. Or even host art trades; they're nice, and the other artist will give you a presence on their gallery, giving you a little signal boost (just saying...).
Also, try to join groups and clubs. FA should really work on improving the club/group experience. It helps.
In the end, I'm just here to do what I like to do: To be a furry, to show off the little world I got in my head, and to just talk to people of similar interests.
Please don't lash out on me for writing this, I'm just calling out my opinion, which really doesn't matter to anyone. Post your rambling on this if you want to.

heh. [also considering a secret santa]
Posted 12 years agoRaffle pimping is prohibited now. Eh, never really held one anyway.
For some it's ok, others kinda wrong. Either way, there's gotta be a new way to pimp out someone (i suggest draw for the offerer, though that might just be a little unfair...).
I'd like to call a friend-only secret santa. As in, for my watchers/friends only kind of thing (no pimps, just fun trading). I'll have to figure it out somehow. What do you guys say? How about we organize a secret santa art-trade thingy?
One thing that I'm entirely sure about is that I should stop procrastinating and get back to studying for my Probability test tomorrow. In the next 2 weeks I'll get on with drawing again. Cya in December!

Welp.
Posted 12 years agoIt's that time of the semester where I just pop in to say hi.
Tests and the end of the semester is arriving now. So, I'll be pretty busy for the next week.
On a side note. Midnight doodles have returned! Hopefully I can scan the sketches soon and put them up later. :3 (I couldn't sleep last night... xD)
I might doodle later. I think I'm going to go study a bit now. :P

woohoo!
Posted 12 years agoI uploaded stuff!
Well, most of it is in scraps and incomplete doodles, but it's progress right? I should try to find the time to draw something complete. Sooner or later. Vacations coming up anyway.
And in other news, um...I've been playing super hexagon recently, and I've really been enjoying it a lot. I made it all the way to the Hyper Hexagonest stage and I'm pretty close to finishing it. I made it to 44 seconds now. I might just be able to finish it! Anyway, I'm off to bed now, I'm tired.

Stuff.
Posted 12 years agoDoing homework again. At least it's not torturous.
In other news I'm getting motivated to move on with the AGF comic pages. Though I'm thinking of doing a few changes to what I had in store for it. It'll still get to where it's intended though. I'm not sure why I'm writing a journal right now, though I just wanted to put something out there.
ooh, also! I came across this song today. Really good. :3

I might doodle later. Drop a ref and tell me a joke so I can know you read this. I'll doodle 3 commenters since I'm dry of ideas.

I got a red hoodie today!
Posted 12 years agoThat's probably the most interesting thing that's happened recently.
Went to the supermarket with my mom, then I just saw it there. It had no logos or any sort of decorations (minus a polo mark) but it's the exact same color as the hoodie I put on Ialo. So...I got it. x3
In other news, tomorrow there's no class. Not so sure what to do tomorrow. Also, I'm currently planning on opening badge commissions for local furs. Like, maybe with art+lamination+lanyard to hang around your neck kind of deal. Just figuring out how much it'll cost and if I could have the time to do it. To those who are planning to go to the upcoming Christmas event, are any of you guys interested?

AGF and Silhouettes
Posted 12 years agoSo, good news is that I'm going to continue the little webcomic I started that's known as "A Good Friend"
the bad news is that I might not finish it or it might not be as long as I planned.
Because I've finally decided to start on a project I've planned for a while, a very long while. Which I decided to put it in comic format. And the name of the comic is: Silhouettes.
Which includes the entire Pine Valley forest canon, Relx's story, the history of aliluks, velokins, and their relationship with humans, crazy adventures, TF goodness, and entirely crazy mysteries.
Not sure how I'll pull it off, but I'm definitely into getting it out there. It may take a while to complete the first pages, but it's worth the challenge.
