Posted 12 years agoUntil recently I've had a general open policy with my commissions, where anyone was generally free to take a slot no matter the length of my queue provided they were willing to wait, but until further notice my commission queue is closed to new orders.
I'll still have premade and semi-customizable items available on my Etsy shop but I will have a limited number of available commission slots in the future and I will likely be choosing projects based on preference rather than first-come-first-serve. I'm really sorry for the change because I know that for some people that will mean that it is a bit more difficult to get their project on my list if they want one done, but I think this will generally lead to a better understanding between me and customers and cut down on misunderstanding especially related to wait time.
I'm also hoping to have more freedom in the near future to work on designs I would like rather than just the designs of others for commission work. I'm also dealing with needing to have my medication adjusted right now and it is making it hard for me to ascertain which days I will feel well enough to get a substantial amount of work done on projects, though I have been trying to chip away at least a little bit each day regardless. In general though I'm doing much better than I had most of last year, so things are definitely looking up.
I will likely make notifications of any available open slots in the future here and through tumblr (greywombat.tumblr.com -- it hasn't been updated in eons but I will be working on that very soon).

arpad and I snatched a bigger, much nicer apartment in the same building in which we've lived for the past year. It's literally 3x the size and we are SO FREAKING HAPPY. Alas, we are in the middle of the moving process, and that is where I have been the past few days. We have a few more things to move upstairs and then I'll still be devoting a lot of my time in the evening to unpacking and what not, but hopefully starting tomorrow I will be able to start chipping away at work again.
I have an entire room to devote to working once again (we had been living in a literal one room studio apartment for the past year) and my head already feels so much clearer and more organized, and it just keeps getting better as I actually find that I have places to organize my supplies and projects.

Delays -- sick?

Just posting a pre-emptive journal because I think I might've caught a bug. Right now it's hard to tell if I have gotten sick or if it's just a very bad flare up of my IBS, but either way I am down for the count right now. I'm hoping a good night's sleep helps matters, but I wanted to make a notice in case I am out of commission for a few days.
Sorry in advance. Hopefully I've just eaten something that disagrees with me and it'll clear up by tomorrow.

Kind of silly RUSH/not-serious-EMERGENCY slot/s?
Posted 12 years agoSo, one of my very important childhood icons (his books helped me through some really shitty years of my life) is selling his typewriter (Billy Martin / Poppy Z Brite). It is specifically the typewriter he wrote Lost Souls on and that book (however silly it is to look back on now haha) was so important to me.
I cannot possibly afford it right now, even though its reserve is only $200 (I mean $200 is a lot, but not for something special like this IMO).
I feel super silly even trying to get something this expensive right now, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. Would anyone be interested in some rush slots to help me fund it? It's got 6 days on it and I'm not sure how high it'll go, but it's starting at $100 and unfortunately (for him) his auctions tend not to actually get too high [he's been selling a lot of things lately], but I'm not sure what this one will be like. Willing to go without a bit a sleep if working the extra time will mean affording this, SO YOU KNOW.
If you are crazy enough to want to do some sort of trade for the full reserve price of this, I am willing to do a mofo crazy-ass thing in exchange -- either an XL plush or a couple regular L with a high amount of detail. My large plush usually START at $100 for a basic/solid colored design so getting a couple with high detail at that price would be a really good deal.

The rush slots basically guarantee completion/mailing within 36 hours of your order. Rather than list things that I cannot do for a rush slot (very complicated designs, essentially) I'll go ahead and let you guys request and let you know if it's something that won't work for the slot, since that'll save some time and confusion. c:

I am in a really complicated pickle. I am currently working part-time at a bookstore and making minimum wage, which is netting me less than $30 a day. Literally. But the work is hard enough and emotionally straining enough that it's hard for me to come home and get work done here, even though, when business is up on this end of things, I make more per day working on commissions than I do at this stupid job.
I've been there less than a month, I desperately want to quit. Like cold-turkey quit, stop showing up sort of thing. I am angry at my managers and my coworkers and I just don't have it in me psychologically anymore. It's exacerbating my mental health issues and I was so much happier doing this, and now that I'm feeling physically healthier again (not at 100% but definitely operating at a reasonable capacity, able to get work done, able to focus, not feeling sick all day, not feeling exhausted all day [unless I've worked lol]) I can get work done here like I used to. I've finished up some projects I'll be posting in a couple of hours tonight and I'm feeling GOOD about commissions again, after a really long time of feeling too tired to put as much work into them as I used to.
ANYWAY, to make matters MORE complicated I just realized that Anthrocon opened up reservations for dealer's tables, and Anthrocon is one of the most lucrative events of the year for me and it winds up sustaining my partner and I for a couple of months every year, and I am making so little money that I literally cannot afford to pay for the table and registration right now and I am afraid of them filling up before I can earn the money I need.
So, anyway, FA: here is my goal. I am really really hoping to make $150 within the next 24 hours, through some rush order/s. I am willing to make almost any character or design (I'll let you know if your design is okay when you contact me -- basically very complicated designs [and certain features like wings and heavy spotting/striping/etc.] may not be possible in this time frame, clothing will not be possible as a given) -- I'm either taking 2 small slots (of $75 each) or one medium slot for the full $150 guaranteed to be finished and mailed within the next 36 hours (extra half a day given to compensate for Sunday not being a mailing day, haha).
I've basically told myself that once I get this/these slot/s filled I'll allow myself to quit that hellhole and also sign up for next year's Anthrocon.
If I get more people interested in these slots than there are slots available (like three people want a small, or someone wants a medium and two people want a small or something) then I can put the last person to make a request on hold and if I am able to get to your slot I will let you know and you can send payment then.
Anyway, that's basically it. If you have any questions let me know.

I'm slowly trying to get back into the swing of things, but I'm still feeling very very tired. I've been taking iron supplements (and getting B12 shots) for several weeks now but I still only really get a few hours a day of feeling truly alert it seems and it's very very hard to fight the urge to just nap.
I think I may be having an issue really properly absorbing my iron supplement so I'm going to ask about that on Thursday when I go back in for my next B12 shot. I'm going to start taking it with some orange juice and see if it makes a difference, but I think I'm supposed to have blood work done this week so I'll have a better idea of how my anemia is doing and if I'm on the upswing.
I also continue to have just one swollen gland on the right side of my neck that isn't really a problem as much as it worries me and is annoying. My doctor tells me that anemia can make it easier to pick up little infections that pass through so hopefully it's just some isolated thing (I used to get a random swollen gland in my left armpit all the time that just seemed like localized randomness but that hasn't been an issue in a long time so hopefully it's the same sort of thing?)
I also had my last appointment with my cardiologist last week, had a stress test, got the word back on my other tests, etc. My heart looks good! Apparently I have some sort of congenital malformation of my mitral valve but, in my doctor's words, "It shouldn't cause you any problems for another 40 years, if ever" so that's good news!
I've heard it can take months to really feel like yourself again when recovering from anemia so I'm feeling a bit down, but also trying to be optimistic that I'll be totally alert again some day, haha. I'm at LEAST doing better than I was, goddamn. As much as I'm complaining right now I am really grateful that I've seen an improvement.

Posted 12 years agoSome good news/bad news today. I got my blood results back from the doctor this morning and it turns out I am anemic. I was given a b12 shot in the office and have to go back every week to get another one, I'm not sure for how long. I've also started an iron supplement. He seems to think I'll have my energy back very shortly, which makes me feel very positive. 8:O)
I ALSO found out that he had over dosed me on levothyroxine and threw me into hyperthyroidism (I am post surgically hypothyroid/had a total thyroidectomy when I was 16). SIGHHHHHHhhhhhh. I was bumped back down to 175mcg from 200mcg today and I'll be re-starting the lower dose tomorrow so that should help me feel better too.
I also had my cardiologist appointment today and was fitted with a 7 day halter monitor (sort of like a constant 24 hour EKG). Sigh. It's actually not that bad, but the wires are a little annoying. It's not very conspicuous, I was worried it would be obvious and I'd feel embarrassed. I feel pretty confident that my heart racing and palpitations now is the result of being launched into hyperthyroid from my medication but I guess better safe than sorry. I have to take a stress test too. I'm honestly not too worried about my heart.
SO THAT'S THAT, hopefully I'll be back to normal really soon! What a shitty month.

Posted 12 years agoWell, it ain't mono (had a test yesterday). My doctor took additional bloodwork and I guess is testing me for some other stuff (I'm not sure what, to be honest). I'm supposed to get the results of that back on Monday. I also have a cardiologist appointment on Monday and a therapist appointment on Monday and then I'm SUPPOSED to see my father from Tuesday through Friday (which is really important to me... he's been really sick. He has hepatitis and has reached cirrhosis and found out he has a blockage in one of his major arteries and ugh just isn't doing great.)
My fatigue has been manageable yesterday and today. I'm still basically on the edge of sleep most of the day but have stayed conscious which is an improvement, lol.
We did some apartment cleaning, since I'm hoping that some general dusting and sprucing up and dust diminishing might help my sore throat.
Trying to stay optimistic.

Posted 12 years agoI'm completely at the end of my rope, I don't even know what to do anymore.
I've had a sore throat/swollen glands for over a month now and I'm constantly fatigued. I have gone through two rounds of antibiotics that have done absolutely nothing to help me. I just switched to a new allergy medication (I was taking Alavert and am now trying Zyrtec) to see if that is the issue, though I'm not really getting my classic allergy symptoms. Just the sore throat/swollen glands/horrendous extreme fatigue. I've been SO HOT all the time -- constantly sweating, but my temperature is normal for me (96.2) so I guess I don't have an infection.
What the HELL is going on with my body? The fatigue I have is the kind of fatigue where I sort of constantly have mild tunnel vision and sleep is doing nothing to relieve it at all. I am tired and ready to sleep again like an hour after I wake up. I've been sleeping for like 10 hours a day and I only get up because I feel guilty about staying in bed. I've been staring into space all day and usually just wind up laying back down and staring some more if I don't just sleep.
I just want my goddamn life back, I've been spiraling into serious depression because I have gotten nothing done and just can barely enjoy anything anymore because I feel so awful. Please please help.

Posted 12 years agoI've had swollen lymph nodes and an on & off sore throat for the past 3 weeks. Today/tonight it's like it suddenly flared and not only all the lymph nodes in my neck really swollen and painful suddenly, but so are the ones in my armpits. I'm really incredibly fatigued and starting to get really nauseous. My tonsils look swollen and red too and maybe a bit patchy, it's hard for me to tell.
I'm really sorry for all of my poor health. I don't even know what to say. I've gotten sick more often in the past 6 months then I have in like the past 6 years combined and I don't know what's wrong with me.
I recently started taking beta blockers for my arrhythmia and I thought the fatigue was from that but it appears to be from whatever the hell I've come down with. The increase in my levothyroxine (from 150 mcg to 200 mcg) seems to be really exacerbating my anxiety & ocd and I think I might need to get it dropped down to like 175 or something. I don't know.
