Newsflash!!!
General | Posted 10 years agoIt has been announced just a few minutes ago that a new six-episode long series of Robot Wars is to be shown on BBC2, although the only thing known currently is that a new arena is to be constructed in Glasgow, as nothing else has been announced.
Personally this has been long awaited, what does everyone else think?
MAJOR UPDATES:
Jonathan Pierce and Professor Noel Sharkey are returning to the show, with new hosts Dara รณ Briain and Angela Scanlon (Mock the Week and The Voice respectively)
The format has changed significantly from last time, instead of straight knockouts, two robots are eliminated from the first round, like before however the remaining four will fight each other where the two with the most points (described as a mini-league by the website) will go to the final. Five heat finalists and one wildcard entry will then fight to become the new champion.
The BBC has also released a media pack which also contains the robots which appear in the five heats, most are newcomers to TV to but have been around the live circuit a while, whilst some are returning from previous series.
Heat A will air on the 24th of July at 8 pm and the robots in said heat include:
Behemoth
Terrorhurtz
Razer
Kill-E-Crank-E
Bonk (Entered Mute in series 7 and Extreme 2)
Carbide
Nuts

British Airways Plane catches fire at Las Vegas McCarran
General | Posted 10 years agohttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-34193767
A BA plane bound for London Gatwick Airport has caught fire at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport, the flight carrying 159 passengers and 13 crew declared an emergency as one of the Boeing 777's engines had failed causing it to catch fire.
The aircraft (G-VIIO) sustained damage to the fuselage and left wing. According to a passenger, there was smoke coming from the engine which smelled like Kerosine (aviation grade fuel) and debris falling from the sky. The flames have since been extinguished.
This picture from Twitter shows the aftermath of the fire, causing a substantial amount of damage:

Le Mans 2015 + Questions
General | Posted 11 years agoLast weekend was the 2015 24hrs of Le Mans, and Porsche won this for the first time since 1998 that a Porsche won in the Le Mans Prototype catagory with Force India F1 driver Nico Hulkenburg at the helm.
Whilst on the subject, here's a few questions you could answer in the comments section:
1. If you could drive for any Le Mans team in any catagory (LMP1, LMP2, GT1, GT2) what one would you drive for and why?
2. Porsche won this event, however what car did they use and what number won the event?
3. How long is the distance (in miles) of the entire Circuit De La Sarthe (where the 24hrs of Le Mans is held)
4. Where is the aforementioned circuit based?

General | Posted 11 years agoI was browsing through Facebook earlier, and United Airlines happened to be trending, what I discovered why (in the politest sense) annoyed me.
http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news.....uption-n356811
United through an entire family off a plane from Florida to Oregon via Houston, because the flight attendants and captain deemed a 15 year old teenager with autism a possible violent threat. Not only that, United stands by its decision to throw the family off at Salt Lake City.
As someone who is autistic, I find this action incredibly prejudicial, as all the mother asked was for hot food for her daughter, after receiving the hot food, the captain of the flight decided to make the diversion because of "disruptive behavior". The mother even notified United about the fact her daughter only likes hot food, and they simply said they wouldn't give hot food to anyone who isn't in first class.
Quite rightly, she plans to sue the airline (formed in its current state through the merger of the original United and Continental Airlines) not for money, but to ensure that its employees are properly trained to meed needs of people with autism.
Saying that, this is why I always fly Virgin Atlantic when I go to the US, I'm not saying the other airlines other than United are all the same, it's just the airline I always use. I didn't fly United before, and reading this horrific news, I certainly never will.

AirAsia flight missing over the Java Sea
General | Posted 11 years agoAn Airbus A320, operating an AirAsia Indonesia service from Surabaya, Indonesia,to Singapore Changi disappeared shortly after requesting a change of course due to weather conditions. Flight QZ8501's present location is unknown although it is the second mysterious disappearance in the region this year, after Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 diappeared over the South China Sea with no trace of the Boeing 777 or its 239 occupants. According to FlightRadar24, the plane was last tracked at 32,000ft before it vanished. An update has seen that a citizen of the UK was on board the flight, and his next of kin have been informed. Flight QZ8501 was scheduled to land at Singapore Changi at about 8:30am local time.
This is big news as no AirAsia plane has ever had an accident since its founding in 1993.

Midwest FurFest disrupted
General | Posted 11 years agoEarly on Sunday morning, the hotel hosting the Midwest FurFest had to be evacuated following complaints of a strange smell around the 9th floor of the hotel. Guests at the hotel around that floor smelled what appeared to be chlorine. The hotel was evacuated until the cause was found and then the area decontaminated. 19 people were taken to hospital in this incident, complaining of medical ailments including nausea, headaches, dizziness, and other problems consistent with chlorine.
The chlorine powder is more well known as Calcium hypochlorite. There are two forms:
Dry: More dangerous, it can decompose and is known to catch fire if left alone for too long:
Hydrated: Slightly safer to handle but by no means less dangerous. It was likely that this form of chlorine powder was used as Dry powder is more dangerous to everyone.
While looking around the stairwell of the 9th floor, investigators found powdered chlorine at the stairwell, suggesting that this was an intentional act.
If whoever reads this outside of an FA account and is responsible for this dispicable act, do yourself a favour and turn yourself in to the authorities. People could've been killed in this incident because of your selfish behaviour.

Radio Times Kids TV Championship
General | Posted 11 years agoSeems odd for a name but this is a voting game in which you vote for your favorite Kids TV Programme by voting for one of the two choices in one box. The list includes The Raccoons, Basil Brush, and more, just vote for your favorite in each group, and then check back regularly to see how they're faring in that match-up.
Here's an example:
Adventure Time
OR
Animaniacs
(Although it appears in the line-up under Group 1, this I used as an example of the sort of questions they're looking at)
Quoting:
128 Kids TV Stars, but only one champ
It's the stuff of playground arguments the world over: what is the ultimate childrens TV show? He-man or Transformers? Thundercats or Thunderbirds? Dick and Dom or PJ and Duncan? To find out, we're pitching children's programmes against each other in head to head contests over seven rounds. Vote for your favourite to move through to the next round and keep checking back to see how they are doing. Kids TV is serious stuff. Playtime is over.
Round 1 ends on Wednesday the 23rd;
The programme with the lowest number of votes of their respective head-to-head will be eliminated and the survivors of the round will be drawn up against one-another to find an overall champion (Seems kinda familiar, like Robot Wars, only with TV programmes).

Small plane crashes off Jamaica
General | Posted 11 years agoA small plane flying from Greater Rochester, New York to Naples, Florida overshot its intended destination, then failed to respond to air traffic control, the plane was soon followed by NORAD F-15 Eagle fighters, the pilots of which said they spotted ice on the interior of the plane, suggesting a pressurization problem - which in turn causes a dangerous condition called Hypoxia. The F-15's broke off as the plane entered Cuban airspace, and a Cuban fighter escorted it as it ran out of fuel and crashed near Port Antonio, Jamaica.
Funding for car repair
General | Posted 11 years ago
RubbertexRaccoon is in need of money to have his car repaired, needing around the $2000 mark.If anyone is unaware of what happened, he was driving home from work when his Honda Fit (or Jazz in the EU) turned 90 degrees, the throttle caused a massive acceleration, and then power to the braking, steering, and engine suddenly cut out.
As of yet I have found no real information into the cause of the accident, although it's likely to involve the car's Drive-By-Wire system.
Two air crashes within one day of each other in July
General | Posted 12 years agoAbout a week after the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over the Donetsk region of Ukraine, an ATR 72 operating TransAsia Airways Flight 222 crashed during an emergency landing in Penghu, Taiwan during severe weather. The crash killed 48 people, however 10 survived the incident.
The next day a SwiftAir chartered MD-83 operating Air Algerie Flight 5017 came down just north of the Mali/Burkina Faso border. The plane reportedly made contact before the crash requesting a return to the airport during a storm. Both flight recorders (dubbed the Black Boxes in aviation terms) were recovered, and sent to France for analysis whilst Mali heads the investigation. Among the 118 were 52 French passengers, 28 passengers from Burkina Faso, 6 Spanish crew, five Canadians, six Lebanese, four Germans, six Algerians, two passengers from Luxembourg, and 1 passenger from each of the following: Belgium, Cameroon, Egypt, Mali, Nigeria, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
For a cluster of air accidents to happen within a week this is really concerning, together with the downing of MH17, this could arguably be one of the deadliest weeks in aviation history, a combined total of 464 people killed in a single week

Malaysia Airlines plane crash in Eastern Ukraine
General | Posted 12 years agoNews is breaking of the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. The flight, carrying 295 passengers and crew were flying over Ukraine, a few hundred miles from the Ukraine-Russia border, reports abound are saying that the plane was shot down over the Donetsk region. The Ukrainian President calls this incident a 'terrorist act', and those who are guilty are to be held responsible. It is believed to have been shot down by a B.U.K missile system north of Donetsk. The government of Ukraine and the separatist rebels have accused each other of the crash.

Malaysia Airlines plane disappears
General | Posted 12 years agoMalaysia Airlines Flight 370 has gone missing over the South China Sea, a joint search effort is underway involving Malaysia, Vietnam, China, and The Philippines. Flight 370 was flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers and crew. The plane, a Boeing 777 has a very good safety record, and Malaysia Airlines has a reasonable safety record.
UPDATE: Two oil slicks consistent with an airliner have been discovered by Vietnamese planes, whilst aerial searches have ceased looking for the missing flight for the night in the region, although it isn't certain that these slicks are related to the missing Flight 370.
UPDATE: America and Singapore joined the search for the missing jet, operating a codeshare with China Southern Airlines as Flight 748.
UPDATE: After nearly three weeks of searching Malaysia Airlines said they presumed the plane was lost and flight MH370 crashed into the Indian Ocean 1500 miles from the Australian city of Perth, with the loss of all on board.

To those with Xbox Live and Cod Black Ops/Black Ops 2
General | Posted 12 years agoI'm planning on playing a Zombies game on the Xbox later, so if you want to join in leave your Gamertag, and I'll add you to friends and invite you to a game, if on Black Ops 2 this might be on the 8 player variant, or if on Black Ops this will be on either Kino Der Toten or Der Riese maps, though I'm open to suggestions. I might stream this too, but I'm undecided as I've not done one before and I'm not sure what time (GMT+0) I might be streaming.
Anyway, if you're interested just leave your Gamertag in the comments below and I'll see about a possible game.

RIP the 2996 people who died during 9/11
General | Posted 12 years agoToday marks the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in New York, nearly 3000 people died in the morning of September 11th 2001 after four hijacked aircraft slammed into the World Trade Center, and the Pentagon. The fourth aircraft was the subject of a film, United Airlines flight 93 was the only case of passengers trying to overpower hijackers, the aircraft crashed into the ground close to Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The memorial to those on board Flight 93 is located where the crash happened, whilst on every anniversary, the President of the USA goes to the Pentagon to attend a memorial service and asks all American citizens to observe a moment of silence during Patriot Day. Similar memorial services at the United 93 memorial are usually attended by the President's wife.

Review of the Pagani Zonda Series
General | Posted 12 years agoThe Zonda is an Italian supercar, which is little known in comparison to those made by Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, and more recently Alfa Romeo.
The Zonda series is made by Automobili Pagani, and has been in in continuous production since the 1990s. It started with the Zonda C12 in 1999, which had a 5.0 litre Mercedes V12 with 389bhp, this passed on to the Zonda S which had a similar Mercedes AMG V12 with 7.0 litres and 540bhp. This in turn passed on to the Zonda roadster, essentially a Zonda S with no roof but a slightly higher capacity engine of 7.3 litres.
This was changed extensively to form the Zonda F (F meaning Fangio after the famous Argentine racer Juan Manuel Fangio). This version of the Zonda was one of the fastest made, as it made it around the TopGear Test Track in 1:18 beating the Ferrari Enzo and the road-going version of the Maserati MC-12. Since the Zonda's lap time, only Koenigsegg have beat that slightly faster a few weeks later, with an upgraded version of the CCX. That version had a rear spoiler and had been around the track in 1:20 beforehand without it, however it caused The Stig's first televised incident on the track.
The Zonda F was eventually superceeded by the Zonda F Roadster which was faster despite having no roof. It was superceeded by the Cinque (Five) which was in essence a road going version of the ridiculously fast and loud Zonda R. This was the second to last mass produced Zonda as three Tricoulori variants were made in homage to the Italian Air Force Freece Tricoulori. The fastest ever Zonda made was the Zonda R, which was hugely fast, it had the same Mercedes AMG V12 as the Mercedes CLK AMG GTR race car. This version weighed only 1070kg (approximately the same weight as a Lotus Elise) and went around the Nurburgring in 6:47. The Zonda family was superseded by the Huarya (Pronounced Wai-Ra) which has some of the most advanced technology on a car. Also this currently top of the TopGear times like the Zonda F, although the Sesto Elemento went round but didn't technically qualify to enter as this was simply like the Zonda R, a lighter revolutionised shape built in conjunction with Boeing and using the same chassis and power plant as a Lamborghini Gallardo with an extremely light and aerodynamic body shell.

Opinions:
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm currently considering to start doing 'Let's Play...' videos on YouTube, as I've seen videos from PewDiePie and Tobuscus with very high views, also if I get enough hits on one video or my channel as a whole, I could get a contract offered by YouTube to produce more videos
Anyway, what's your opinion on the subject?
Please comment below and I'll weigh up both sides from both dA and FA.
