No longer posting on FA
Posted 9 years agoLike I said 3 months ago, I was planning on phasing out FA. Now's a great time to cut it off. If the administration decides to reign in control of its staff and get proper devs in, then I'll resume posting here. Until then, you can find me at:

Posted 9 years agoSo FA's had some... interesting administrative issues... over the last decade. At some point I am going to cease uploading to FA. Currently I'm censoring adult art and posting links to the uncensored versions on the other sites.
People say they can't ditch FA due to the majority of their followers/clients being on FA, but interactions and commissions have been dwindling here, so I'm not considering it much of a loss.
I originally came to FA because of one person, and now they're part of the reason driving me away from the site. It's been a wild ride.

Considering leaving FA -> question
Posted 10 years agoOver the years I've had many issues with FA. The ad thing is just the latest problem. Several somewhat popular artists have already left and are doing pretty well. I have an okay following on Weasyl and InkBunny.
My question is, how many people are following me here that would not follow me on either Weasyl or InkBunny if I stopped uploading to FA?

Convention questions, answered
Posted 10 years agoSo, Spunky Mutt asked about some questions about conventions ( https://www.furaffinity.net/view/16822906/ ). I've reproduced my response below for anyone watching me if they're interested. You can add comments here or at that post.
What's the difference between the Artist's Alley and the Dealer's Den?
Depending on the convention, for the DD you either pay for a table or pay a certain percentage of sales to the con. Some cons are free, too. Usually spots are chosen by raffle, although I heard one con is doing it where they choose who gets it based on who applies. Generally people who go for the DD have pre-made things to sell, e.g. prints, originals, comics, generic badges, buttons, and so on. They'll generally work on commissions in-between sales, but not always.
Artist's Alley is usually first-come first-served, and you're only allowed to do commissions. You cannot sell pre-made items there. For Fur The More, it was a $10 fee to get a spot in the AA, and you have to apply each day.
Even if the Con is meant to be an opportunity of artists of all types to branch out and capture those opportunities, why is it so bad that the Con is becoming more of a social event?
I don't know about the specifics of the changes/con you're talking about. All conventions I've been to have basically been AA, DD, panels/events, and non-organized socializing (e.g. "Zoo" space, etc). Maybe they're talking about the panels/events being less art focused. I don't really see that being too much of a problem, but I can understand being annoyed that it's becoming less furry focused.
Having panels about art, media, etc regarding furry stuff is a staple of any con, but at some point you've seen it all. There's only so many "intro to drawing fuzzies" panels you can go to before you stop bothering and just socialize more. With a lack of "professional" artists to do intermediate/advanced teaching panels, there's probably less art panels being done. With a lack of new anthropomorphic-character-centric media for the newer crowds to go with, there's less media panels.
I really wanted to get a fursuit before my first Con! But I don't think that'll happen- however, when I do- Is the Fursuit Parade thing I hear about something anyone can join in on?
Usually the parade is basically (most) everyone in fur suits march in a parade around the convention center. Those not in suit can watch. The parade doesn't go (at least at any con I've been to) outside the convention space, so it's only attendees who see it anyway, so no real reason to be in the parade without a suit.
In your opinion- What's the BEST con? My first con I'm thinking I'll be doing a lot of Socializing and wanting to have fun ( not drinking because I'm not of age, so if its centered around that, count me out ) so think in terms of things to do.
Drinking is not really a big focus of socializing at cons, and most people that do drink are cool with people hanging out if they don't. If someone pressures you to drink, leave immediately. Don't be the guy at 1pm going "Let's do more shots!", please. In my opinion, the best con would be hard to say, as cons vary so much from year to year. Cons I've done:
Further Confusion: did it once when I lived near-by. Took the train in every morning. Was okay. Was my first con so it was pretty awkward for me.
FurAffinity: United: done it twice so far. Enjoyable, but mostly because of the people I hung out with. Problem is it's in the middle of nowhere. Decent size for a person's first-con.
Fur The More: Another small con, I think they passed just over 800 people this year IIRC. They moved to a new hotel this year, which is a bit better. Friday was slow, but Saturday and Sunday were good. I think if they can get their scheduling under control, next year's should be pretty great. It's got a handful of restaurants and fast-food near by (and a Walmart if you want to pick up groceries cheap). It's pretty close to public transport so it's nice.
Anthrocon: Loved the restaurants near by. Being in a hotel not attached to the convention center was annoying as hell. Hard to get a room in the hotel that is attached. Really big con. Lots of people to hang out with, if you can find them. In a con like this, if you want to meet up with specific people, plan ahead. Twitter/text/phone/etc. Figure out how you'll contact them and try to plan a few hours ahead. People can get dragged away pretty often. I liked it well enough, but my god was there a lot of walking. Wear comfortable footwear.
Midwest FurFest: I really enjoyed it and managed to meet a lot of folks that weren't at other cons. It's still considered a 'smaller con' but it's growing and the next might finally push it out of the 'small con' category.
If you want things to do outside of the convention space, Anthrocon's not in a great area for that. FA:U is right out. FC is okay I guess? It's San Jose, so there's probably something. MWFF has a lot of near-by things, but traffic can make it seem like a lot longer distance. From what I can gather FTM is probably the best bet for outside-con access. As long as you don't try to deal with rush-hour traffic. I think you can even get into DC via the metro.
How much money should I plan to bring with me to a con? The short answer I've heard: A lot. But I would like to make a goal and reach it by next year. So if you could give me an estimate, that'd be sweet! I'll be going with a 4 others as far as I know, and I know I'll likely be going out to eat and checking out the area as well as the Con. ( It should be FF I attend, and possibly AC as well! )
Depends on where you're staying and what you're doing. If you eat out a lot at regular restaurants, figure $25 per meal. Fast food e.g. Subway can be as little as $8/meal. Groceries can be better if you're okay with coldcuts/sandwichs and can keep a cooler with ice to chill things (No refrigerators in hotels except in rare circumstances). Hotel rooms split across 4 people can be anywhere from $25/night per person to $75/night per person. Travel costs (fuel and tolls, airline tickets and taxis, rentals). If you want a few commissions, probably plan $100 for that. Up to $500 or even more if you like to buy a lot of stuff. Plan ahead. Bring extra. ATMs charge fees if they're not in network, as much as $5 per transaction.
What's a Con experience like?
Anywhere from the Best Day of My Life to a weekend in a dirty, smelly, hell.
Seriously. The main thing, in my opinion, is to be social. It's hard for me as I'm pretty introverted and it's hard to strike up convos with people. People congregating in small groups of people they know is common. If the con's not set up for it, it's hard to break into groups for me. Bigger tables help with that, though. I personally find balancing socializing with panels/events to be a good thing. I make a schedule for the 2-4 days of the con of panels/events I want to go to, that I might want to go to, and ones I'll go to if there's nothing else to do. This keeps me from getting bored. You can only check out the dealers den and artists alley so many times. This way you go to the events you want to (great if you can sync schedules with friends), and you're not hanging out with people for many hours at a time being awkward, then when they're over you meet up again. And if no one's around, well that's okay, you can go to the other things. With the folks I hang out with, I usually chill in the evening, having small room parties where we can just relax and watch a movie and chat with each other.
Other tid-bits:
If your phone battery doesn't last long, bring an external battery for it. Can really help avoid problems if you're trying to keep in touch with other people at the con. Having a badge with your name (furry alt or not) on it is handy. Bring snacks that keep well and that you like. Sometimes skipping a meal is actually not a bad thing to do. I usually wind up having something small for breakfast since I tend to go to bed late and get up late, then just have lunch at a normal time. Other times I have breakfast and have a snack in place of lunch. And so on. Having a water bottle with you is good, especially if you have a bag to keep it in. A bag in general is good. A comfortable messenger bag or backpack. Easier to bring drawing supplies if you plan to draw at all. If you use pencils, bring one of those small pencil sharpeners and a good eraser. A clipboard is great if you use loose paper to draw on.

I Lost My Weasyl Button [MWFF Recap]
Posted 11 years agoHaha, so it was a fun convention for me, although the most expensive, too, as I had to fly there and back. Speaking of, I lost the Weasyl button I got from
FayV somewhere between MWFF and the security checkpoint at the airport. :c
I roomed with
SirKain and Max Lightfoot, and met a bunch of folks there. I saw
Raijen and
Geemo for the second time, and got to hang out with them a little more, and met Legonnare for the first time (Such a nice zebra!). Briefly saw
BadgerBen and
TabyKat, though didn't get to hang out with them much unfortunately.
Saw a bunch of artists I only knew online in the artists alley and dealers den. Met Kamber which was a bit of a surprise to me. I vaguely knew of her before hand, but didn't realize she'd be around. Met a bunch of other fun folks at the Transfurs panel, too. The "How to tell your parents you're a furry" panel by 2 and Kage was damned hilarious, but also thoughtful and well reasoned.
Went to a party with my roommates but it got broken up. Apparently the room was across from where pilots were staying, and despite being as quiet as possible we were still too loud. Probably from the door opening and closing so often. They're not exactly quiet doors. We continued in our room and a couple of surrounding rooms for a bit, and did the same the next two days. Was fun hanging out, especially when a couple of my friends showed up on Sunday.
Overall, I met a lot of cool folks, had some good food, got a little art, did a little art (still have to scan those...), and just had a decently fun time. My feet are still hurting a bit from walking around in those high-heeled boots, but I think it was worth it. Got a lot of compliments on those and my corset. And a couple on my breasts, along with some less than pleasant comments. Although one of the service staff wanted a picture taken with me. xD I wish I had gotten a picture taken of myself in my getup, would have been nice to have something professional taken. =3= Ah well...
And lastly, yes, EvacuCon, Worst Fursuit Parade Ever, etc did happen. It was shitty. Worried the crowd was going to crush me (and others) at one point. Lack of communication between the police and the hotel staff, and between the police and the crowd... Overall could have been worse, though. Only benefit is I got to hang out with
Pulsar and Raijen for a bit. Helped them recharge their phones while we waited. Also gave some water to a random fursuiter as we filed back in since they couldn't get any in the line. Just a lot of waiting around instead of sleeping. But despite all that, the con was good.

Storm Preparedness
Posted 11 years agoHi all, I'm back again. And just in time for an impending snow storm, apparently. Here's a little list of items to check before storms head your way. I made it for others but I figure I might as well share it with all of you, too. This is just a short off-the-top-of-my-head list. Feel free to add items below.
Snow's coming.
Now's a good time to check storm-related equipment and supplies.
- Snow blower (oil, fuel)
- Generator (oil, fuel, starter battery)
- Grill (propane, burners; charcoal)
- Sump pump (pump, backup battery)
- Weather radio (find a clear station, batteries, hand crank)
- FRS/GMRS walkie-talkies (have a known channel and privacy channel picked out among family/friends)
- Flashlights (bulb, batteries)
- Car chargers for devices like cell phones
- Stored/bottled water
- Non-perishable/pre-cooked food
- Candles
- Matches
- Smoke detectors and batteries
... and so on.

Name-a-Character Contest
Posted 11 years agoHi again! Not fully back yet (still two weeks to go) but I want to get this posted now.
Basically I'm running a small contest to name my bird character ( https://www.furaffinity.net/view/11744146/ , #3 at https://www.furaffinity.net/view/11427757/ ) and the person who submits the name I choose will win either $5 via PayPal or a free sketch commission. Names are submitted via form ( https://docs.google.com/forms/d/13v.....AMLMw/viewform ).
It's quick and easy. Couldn't be simpler!

Anthrocon/FA:U combined writeup
Posted 11 years agoAnthrocon 2014: Large, loud, lots of walking.
I went with
SirKain. The location's a bit annoying for me to get to. Not sure if I'll go again next year. I commissioned some folks, one of which I'm still waiting to get. Hoping that gets settled quickly (Always send out art with delivery confirmation, or preferably full tracking). I met a bunch of folks, some of which I knew before from on-line (Raijen,
Geemo), artists I've watched (
Ramzkun - complete with fish shirt,
Roxikat, and SoreThumb), and other folks that I hadn't met before (ZenFetcher, Soba, Nemo, and some others I'm sure I'm forgetting.) Lots of good food in the immediate area; in walking distance at that! Lots of walking, though. I was in the Omni so it was either a 15 minute shuttle ride (that I usually missed) or just walk there. Just had my regular boots so the walk wasn't too bad, although warm at times. Kind of makes me want a furry-dense city to live in. x3 Artists Alley actually had free spots so I could have gotten one, but I never wound up with enough free time to make it worth it, sadly. If I do AC again, I'd have to do the AA to make the cost of the con worth it. Also I saw Ferris (!) and
Daigo in the artist's alley and commissioned both of them. Daigo mentioned he had seen and remembered one of the drawings I did, which was a pleasant surprise. Pretty cool when other artists have seen my stuff. u3u
Rating: "It's Good" out of maximum of "Best. Weekend. Ever!"
FurAffinity: United 2014: Boot-con
I went by myself and since I couldn't find friends to split a room with I only had the hotel for Friday and Saturday nights, to cut down on costs. I saw
BadgerBen and another couple of folks when I arrived. Wound up with a first floor room which was excellent. Let me drop off my bag when I didn't need it without having to spend too much time. Also meant less stair climbing in my fashion boots which are not comfortable for wearing and walking all day long. I alternated between them and my regular boots because of that. Also, wore my corset all three days, along with my breast forms. I got a lot of compliments on my boots as well as my corset. I also got a couple on my breast forms, but most folks didn't say anything, although I did have a few curious folks ask about them. I had only three inappropriate comments about what I was wearing, which wasn't so bad, compared to how many compliments I got. Still, sure, one was a couple of drunken self-racist stereotypes from one of the FOUR wedding parties there that weekend, but the other was a guy in a fursuit. Seriously, at what point does a fursuiter, who has an immovable-jaw fursuit, decide to suddenly shout out "BOOBIES!"? You're breaking like a dozen kinds of etiquette. Also, asking "What's with the boobs?" across a PARKING LOT is not appropriate either. Stop it.
Anyway, the rest of the con, I met various folks here and there. There was the one staff member whose name I'm totally derping on right now with the vest and pocket watch and such. There was
Libra-11. Never got a chance to really hang out with much, as I kept bouncing from event to event, but I talked with him and his friend some. I hung out with Ben,
SardonyxFox, and a few others a couple of times. Our schedules didn't really line up too well most of the time, but we did hang in the zoo some and watch things like Gravity Falls, Rick and Morty, and the first two episodes of Kill la Kill (I don't even...) while trying to draw, but failing miserably. That was one of the reasons I didn't get much drawing done. Saw Daigo again. I went to the Gender Bender panel which was an interesting discussion. I left early to get to the charity concert on time, which started 20 minutes late... Also saw Majik (need to find her FA) for the millionth con in a row, and took the sew-a-cupcake class with her. I was a bit slow at it, so I didn't get to put a topping on my cupcake, but it's still decently okay for for two hours. I bailed early for closing ceremonies which was a waste because it started late. Seeing a pattern here? Yeah. Both were good, though.
ALSO THE FIREALARM WENT OFF AGAIN. This time due to a water pump malfunction, and not at 3 in the morning. So yay, no one to blame, boo, waiting outside for at least 20 minutes. I wandered about in my high-heeled boots, bored. I checked out the dance both Friday and Saturday night. I stayed longer Saturday as I really wanted to dance, but between the two video cameras recording the entire dance, and the music not being that interesting, I just did not stay. I really didn't like that the cameras were there. I do wish there were easier to get to food places, though. Your only choice is delivery or the pub if you are in a hurry. Or you could be like the staff and be late anyway and cancel a panel. Assuming that panel wasn't a joke panel. At this point it's self-parody, so who can say. I saw a bunch of folks in passing again, no idea if they saw me. Briefly butted in on Mathew Ebel/Pepper Coyote/et al's dinner to say I enjoyed the concert. The A/V crew really needs to fix the sound levels, though. 1) This was not a concert for deaf folks. 2) The people in the front rows don't need the speakers pointed at them. 3) People are not trying to get deaf. 4) Balance the instruments and vocals. 5) PEOPLE ARE NOT TRYING TO BECOME DEAF FOR FUCKS SAKE WHAT THE HELL? You're not going to hear people fucking in the back row that we need drowned out, use a reasonable volume. This is why I bailed on Ebel's concert at... FC? FA:U 2013? Whatever it was. Too loud to comfortably stay. The dances were probably the same volume, although I guess a louder volume is somewhat more reasonable for a dance. I'd probably skip the improv and talent show, though. The former was okay, but if I was doing the AA or hanging with friends I'd likely skip it. The talent show was alright, but kind of just turned into karaoke. I'd have considered singing the Medley from the Southpark movie, but it was only a PG event...
Aaaand I don't even know what else. I'm a bit worn out. I give it a "Good But Tiring and Needed More Time" out of a maximum "Best. Weekend. Ever!"
Also I never got asked back to anyone's room for sex! And you call yourselves furry conventions?! ;)

ALSO THE FIREALARM WENT OFF AGAIN. This time due to a water pump malfunction, and not at 3 in the morning. So yay, no one to blame, boo, waiting outside for at least 20 minutes. Would you all like to see more personal updates?
Posted 11 years agoCurrently I post most personal things to Twitter, some of which is inappropriate for journals on FA. After reading someone else's journal complaining that too few artists post anything personal to journals, I'm wondering if anyone watching me would like to see more journals about my personal life? Or should I stick to just posting about art and conventions?
I don't mind talking
Posted 11 years agoSo I had my mind blown today that there are folks out there that are actually shy about talking to me.
WELL YOU CAN'T BE, THAT'S MY SHTICK!
x3
Seriously, I'm almost always shy and afraid to talk to folks I've not interacted with before. But I like meeting new people and talking with folks. So feel free to hit me up to talk. :3
...
Unrelated to today there's something else I need to say. Unfortunately here comes the mean and angry part:
If you message me saying "hi" I will respond back with "Hi. What's up?" That's your chance to tell me what you want. If all you say is "not much" the conversation dies there. A conversation requires more than one person. If you want requests, read the damn page linked above.
If you want to RP, I don't mind RPing every once in a while, on IRC or YIM/Skype. But again, it takes more than one person to do a RP. If you put in little effort, I'll put in little effort. If you put in no effort, I will put in no effort. That usually means I will end it quickly or ignore you. Don't expect me to do pages of cum-inducing pulp involving your character on my own. THAT'S WHAT A COMMISSION IS. A RP is for the enjoyment of everyone involved. Also, get to know my characters before hand. If you want sex with Webster? Don't expect him to go begging for your dick. And you try anything approaching rape? Hooves and claws, man. My characters won't tolerate that shit, and I sure as hell won't either.
</angry>
... I think that about covers it. Let me know if you have any questions.

Fur The 'More write-up
Posted 11 years agoI got back from Fur The 'More Sunday night, just as the snow was starting and basically spent Monday recovering from it and preparing for the week. So today is the day I give a write up! Forgive me if I get dates and names wrong, my memory is a little fuzzy about times and I'm horrible with names.
Friday I arrived a bit later than I had planned, showing up in the early afternoon. I was wearing my boots, corset and pirate baseball cap that day ( apart from pants and shirt, obviously :P ). I got my badge and started exploring, finding out where everything is. I perused Artists Alley and then wandered over to the Dealers Dens (two, they got split due to a hotel scheduling snafu). I wound up getting a couple of etched drink glasses, one with Luna and one with Flutterbat. I met
TabyKat and I think that's when I also met
IdahoFox and Grim?. I met
Cherri later that day along with some folks she was hanging out with. I think
BadgerBen was there that day? I basically hung out and chatted while drawing for most of the day. I believe that was the day of the "Would you rather...?" panel event, which was pretty fun, although I think the host could have been better at directing it. Dead air isn't good for a "show" panel. Still fairly amusing, despite that.
Saturday was a similar day of wandering. I was also wearing my breast forms that day and went between wearing my baseball cap, my tiger hat, and no hat.
SirKain arrived that day and I hung out with him, MaxLightfoot?, Rassa? and the rest at various points. I tried out a tabletop game with Cherri that she's making. It was fun and everyone seemed to enjoy it, especially since it was the first time it was tried with four players. I met Sunshine? for the first time while hanging around the zoo. It was her first time at a con ( she was adorkable ). I found
Sciggles in the Dealers Den (#2 I think?) and it was the first time I've talked with her face-to-face. I bought a Big McIntosh cutie-mark button from her. xD I also met Esraaiy? and
STrRedWolf in the zoo at various points. I got a small commission from cute little lady in Artists Alley but I never wrote down her name and I don't think she signed the piece she did. I'll have to double check!
We went out to dinner together that evening. Some of us, myself included, went to a hibachi restaurant while others went to a more American-grill style restaurant. I unfortunately wound up missing both the fursuit parade and the Mathew Ebel concert.
Later at night I crashed with SirKain/TabyKat/BadgerBen/MaxLightfoot? in their room and chilled for a bit. Had some rum and "liquid apple pie" and tried out Dogfish Head's Worldwide Stout ( It was okay, I'm not a big beer fan ). We watched the latest ponies episode since I missed it and we blew through 1GB of my data plan for the month ( thank you YouTube and your horrible caching ). I was dragged out in the evening for a few hours by SirKain to go wander the con at night and we met some folks, a couple of whom he knew and was surprised to find. I met GraySoul? and someone else I'm forgetting. There was a lot of conversations about various things, though I didn't participate much ( too young to remenisce like they did :P ) and wound up heading back to the room with BadgerBen after a while. Drove back to my apartment in time to see a beautiful large moon followed by a rainbow filled sunrise. Then I slept.
Sunday I got in late due to the late night before. SirKain already headed out to beat the snow before I got back, and after hanging in the Zoo for a little I said goodbye to Cherri as she wanted to leave early for the same reason. After that I headed over to the Charity Auction along with TabyKat, IdahoFox, and a few other folks. I bid on a couple of items but was outbid both times. Aw well. It ran long so rolled right into closing ceremonies and then the feedback panel. Someone else ahead of me gave the same feedback about the Zoo ( f that noise ) so I sat that out. Then they announced the Dead Dog Dance was canceled due to the snow and most folks seemed to have left, so I said goodbye to one last person I knew and then packed up and headed out.
At various points I saw other folks. I know I saw
Dragoneer around a few times, and I saw both the Blaze and Icey fursuits ( characters of
ICEman ) wandering about. Icey has sparkly hair ( it amused me ) and Blaze was quite nice. >u> They were also both rather tall. ( I'm short... ) I also saw
Zen in suit. There were a bunch of others that were quite nice.
Overall it was fairly enjoyable, although there are a few things I'd do differently next time. I was happy that I got a few compliments on my corset and one on my corset+forms ( "Impressive!" xD ). I did break someone's brain with it ( male gamer can't handle it? I dunno ) and had someone want to grope me. :C Main thing I need next year is a messenger bag with a spot for a water bottle so I don't keep losing it like I did on Saturday. Also thanks again to BadgerBen for laminating my badge for me! I need to remember to make a better one at some point, although this one should last me for a little while.

Pony blog? Naughty Pony blog?
Posted 12 years agoI'm on a pony kick at the moment. I don't know if anyone is interested, but... http://ask-wreckingballs.tumblr.com/ <- I have a pony ask-blog now. What it will be about should be obvious from the title pun. Already have some naughty pieces those in my stream have seen that will get posted soon. So... it's there. If you'd like. :T
FA:U Review... sorta.
Posted 12 years agoOverall it was a fun con, went with
BadgerBen and met people (
SardonyxFox,
Daigo,
MissMab, a few friends of Ben), got art from ChewieMonster and
Gideon, and lastly got assaulted by a large white cat that was kidnapping people.
Sciggles was always surrounded by a crowd in the dealers' den so I couldn't say hi. :p
Went to a bunch of panels. Some were quite amusing like the create-a-character panel with Mab and Strype. I liked the two I saw with Lazarus (the rocket guy). Missed the first due to fire alarms causing sleep problems, and Strype's panel due to arriving late. Missed the cocktail hour completely due to Gideon's panel on hyper. Oddly enough I expected the "Gender Benders" panel to structured more like the hyper panel, and vice-versa.
Over all it was a fun con. I wish it had an art auction like FC, but it might not be big enough to sustain one. They'd also have to get Dusty Kat. Sorry, Ebel. ;)
Got eight or so compliments on my corset, and at least as many odd looks. :p
Did get a little drawing in. No trades though. Will post what I have when I can scan it.
And I've probably forgotten things. Bed time now. Tiger is sleepy. =3=
[ Will fix any mistakes later ]

Death'd [Computer Woes]
Posted 12 years agoThe main hard drive in my laptop is dying somewhat horribly. If I can't finish recovering the data I'll likely lose a bunch of game stuff, have to reinstall just about everything, uninstall all the bloatware and then install a billion Windows updates. :E
Figures it couldn't last until this summer when I would have made a NAS setup to do full backups to, as opposed to just unversioned file backups of (most) data only.
Update:
System back online, mostly just lost Minecraft and Nimin progress.

Snow storm later tomorrow night.
Posted 12 years agoI got an EAS warning on my phone this afternoon. Big blizzard for the area. Wasn't originally predicted for this area but that changed today. Of course I couldn't get the snow blower to start, so we'll see what happens. High winds and 6-18 inches of snow predicted. Hoepfully won't be offline too long if things do go south as it were.
Anyway, I will be taking a break from programming my video game engine and will be doing art in probably 45 minutes from now, but may be as soon as 30 minutes or late as an hour. Will post a submission alert for it.
Thanks all and stay safe if you're in the area!

Your opinion on me posting pony (MLP) art?

I'm Back!
Posted 13 years agoSo, after around 100 hours without power, we finally got it back. Took a hot shower, watched a movie, and hopefully after a good sleep I'll get back to work on art tomorrow.
Note that I still do not have regular Internet access and am still using my phone as a tether. I won't be able to stream until the cable comes back online. But I can at least do digital art without worrying about my miserable battery life.
Anyway, I'm okay, and I feel a bit bad for theidiots people waiting over 12 hours in line in their cars for gas. We've a little bit of clean-up to do, but we were prepared and really only had power issues. I hope those harder hit get back on their feet soon.

Posted 13 years agoHi all!
I'm alive, but I've been without power for thirty hours and still counting at this point. Fortunately we bought a generator after the last hurricane which has proved to be quite handy. It's kept our fridge and freezer cold, and kept our oil burner for heating running. However, due to a wiring snafu, the burner that heats our water isn't powered by the generator. So I've missed out on showers for two days. Tomorrow, I'm going to shower, hot water or not, although if we don't have electric by then I'll probably just rig it so we get hot water. :x
If we're lucky we'll get power back tomorrow, but if we're unlucky... Could be over a week. I'll let you know when I can resume drawing things for you all. :p

Q: Multi-computer and multi-drive file synchronization?
Posted 13 years agoI don't usually ask technical questions here, but there is so much different software to choose from I'd like personal opinions.
The premise: I have two computers (a laptop and a desktop) and an external (2TB) hard drive, and a large set of files (Just under 1TB) that should remain identical between the three. A subset of those files (Roughly 5GB) are being backed up to an online backup service (In this case, SpiderOak).
What would be nice would be to use my existing software (SpiderOak) to synchronize the files between the three "systems." However, SpiderOak only allows me to synchronize files that it is backing up to its online service. Currently I have 6GB of free storage. I have roughly 1TB of data to synchronize. I would have to pay a very large amount of money every month to backup all those files. Therefore I cannot use SpiderOak to synchronize those files.
At the moment I backup the files from my laptop to the external backup drive using a Windows version of rsync, which unfortunately has to copy the entire file if any part of it has changed.
Also an issue, my laptop has two 500GB drives, while my desktop has a single 1TB drive, therefore causing the directory structure to be different between the two, although I can move around data to simplify things.
Addendum: Currently both computers are running Windows although I would like to have either one run Linux and still maintain synchronization.
The question: Do any of you know (preferably use) good software that does not require a monthly fee to sync the files between two computers and an external drive?
The other issue I have is doing an online backup from either computer without duplicating content, although I think SpiderOak will be able to handle it after I get the two computers synchronized.
