hey guys, I just found out that I am going to have a lot of free time this weekend, but also that I need to raise some cash for food and rent. so I’m offering something different.

i’m not doing digital stuff this time - instead I want to offer some full-on pencil/pen shaded rendered pieces for $20. the comic i’m working on is going to be pen/pencil rendered anyway, so I also want the practice :P

you can have up to two characters and a background, and it can be adult if you want. certain extreme stuff I don’t really feel comfortable drawing, but, you know, use your best judgement.

i’ve been trying a few things over the past few weeks to get myself working more on my art on a consistent basis, and so far I haven’t had much success:

keeping a sketchbook with me: i have like 12038302 sketchbooks already of varying sizes and i end up starting a thing in one book that ends up being on too small a page or the book ends up being too big to carry around all the time (yeah i know, excuses, excuses mister wannabe artman!)

doodling in bed: I fall asleep like a rock as soon as I try to read/draw while laying down.

drawing on the bus: sometimes this works but drawing while riding on Oahu’s pothole-riffic roads is an exercise in futility.

staying up late to doodle all night: umm…. not with close opens. unless i just don’t want to sleep ever

caffiene: i ran out of c pills i think last week? weaning myself off them has made me feel less crazy but also doesn’t give me that mental oomph i need….

am I just full of shit or is there another strategy you guys use that works for you? lay it on me

edit: hey all, i was going to offer commissions but I can't really take any until i resolve this computer situation. :(

so. minestrone. for some reason i fail at cooking for one person - i ended up making 5 quarts of soup.

but yes i think i might be crazy... FOR THIS SOUP. for simplicity's sake here is the stuff more or less in order of when you would start messing with it

1# pack smoked ham hock (boil for 1 hour, then shred) + water to cover
1# pack chicken gizzards (toss in salt and oil, roast at 450F till brown then process fine)
2 tbsp mexican oregano, ground into a powder (toss in w/ ham hock)
3 heads garlic (drizzle with olive oil and pack in foil w/ 1c water, roast w/gizzards, spoon out and mash)
1 orange sweet potato, diced
1 crown broccoli, diced (well as best you can, for fucks sake it is broccoli)
1 green bell pepper, cut into 1.5-2" bits
1/3 cup elbow macaroni (what, it's not the fucking star of this soup)
1 14oz can diced stewed tomatoes w/liquid
1 14 oz can dark red kidney beans
1/4 a head of cabbage in 1.5-2" square bits (probably need more water at this point)
salt and pepper to taste

total cooking time for me was about 90 minutes, but to pull that off you have to start roasting the gizzards and garlic right at the beginning. fuck yeah, this should last through my cold :)

but i really like, uh, "shiny round things"

The one I really wanna get back is my iPad. That and paying my rent. Rent is good. I recently got a job offer (orientation is tomorrow!) so I will be working hard and looking for a second job to further pad my wallet and pay back what I owe people.

Just wanted to give you all an update about what's happening with me (for like the two or three of you who follow me on here XD)

Yes, I did fall down the stairs during my last final exam a few weeks ago. But a few weeks of mostly rest and a cocktail of ibuprofen and other stuffs have helped to heal it a bit. But seriously, I'm going to be fine, I think.

I moved out of the dorms and into what could be described as a cubbyhole. Got rid of 60% of my stuff. This is a temporary thing until I can get into an actual living space that allows me to, you know, walk around without having to move things.

I feel like I'm getting stuck in this rut where I am awed by the sight of awesome art but sad that I'm not improving as much. It's a deadly cycle and I need to stop it. Blah~ Maybe I should post more on DA or something? I dunno if my art even fits the FA audience.

Also, a big thank you to everyone who has shown concern for me over the past few weeks with all the stuff that has happened to me. It really means a lot. Thank you.
