Strange times on the SSV Normandy, or Death to the Reapers
Posted 13 years agoWhile my personal life is still a shit sandwich in most areas, I acquired something today that should provide a welcome escape that may ease the wait till other things are less bad, a pre-ordered copy or Mass Effect 3. The refurbished Normandy has the same overall shape as the Cerberus built one from ME2 with a few exceptions. Besides flying Alliance colors on the outside, the inside has been extensively rearranged and given a darker tone befitting the state of galactic events. I guess art really imitates life, at least the "OMG 2012 its all over" insane mentality. My current plan is to play through with a new default character before importing my ME2 Shepherds named;
Whitecrow - Male Paragon Soldier, my most heroic of Shepherds
Oren - Female Renegade Infiltrator, Not related Oren Ishii in anyway except she's deadly with a Sniper Rifle.
Black Steve - Male Paragon Adept, Magically teleported from the 8bit world of Code Monkeys to the 64 bit world of ME2.
Bill - Male Renegade Engineer, Did not kill The Bride. At least I don't think he did.
Glados - Female Paragon Sentinel, Not related to the computer that you killed because you had to in portal.
Quickie Mart - Male Paragon Vangurad, Intentionally let Jack and all the Cerberus crew die except Miranda
I'll end with a Hypothetical question. Which "Shepherd" would you want to save your hide?

Don't know if I can go on.
Posted 13 years agoDuring the last week of January, I had a nervous breakdown over whether I could pass two classes for this semester. At the advice of counseling, I dropped the two stressful classes with assurances that no one would screw me for this. Then near the end of the week, I got a letter from on-campus housing stating that I had to leave due to the fact that they will allow no less then 12 credits and I was now down to six in a desperate attempt to avoid losing whats left of my sanity. Since finding off campus housing would have been all but impossible due to the natural gas gold rush insanity that has captured the area around the college I attented, I had no choice to withdraw and in all likely hood never return. So not I have no choice but to be trapped at home zoning out waiting for things to either improve or get worse. As a result of all this soul crushing depression I don't know if I will ever be able to write again. I'm exhausted enough just waking up, eating, and going to bed. At this point its only a question of how long until I'm so desperate for something 'worthwhile' to do that I settle for the lightly populated social minefield the is cleaning bathrooms in a dying town for the rest of my miserable life.
Kinda, Sorta, Back, Maybe
Posted 14 years agoLately my life has shifted back and forth between trying to maintain what may amount to a pipe dream degree and getting sucked into the internet and video games to preserve what little remains of my sanity. As of late, however, I have found the latter two activities wanting on several occasions which leaves my staring at a computer screen with little energy to do anything else. I have tried to use these opportunities to get back to writing but its hard when I find it near impossible to get away from the depressing fact that I'm trapped in a piss ant city that barely qualifies as such surrounded by a bunch of drunken degenerates who I feel about as much connection with as an ordinary person would feel towards a chimpanzee. Anyways, I'll try to get some writing in between finals and over the last few weeks of the year, but I don't know if I will be able to accomplish much.
Screw Web Content Filtering
Posted 14 years agoAs if I did not have enough problems all ready, the college I attend has taken to blocking all images from this site. On top of this, for some strange reason sofurrry.com remains unblocked. I do not know if stories posted are blocked as well, but if they are, there's yet another damper on my will to write.
Addendum.
Stories are not currently blocked, but given the overly vague AUP of the college network I would not be surprised if this changed in the future.

Potentially Indefinate Hiatus
Posted 14 years agoAs I mentioned in my previous journal, This new semester has made it very difficult to write. Additionally, the recent nonstop rain and threats of flooding have only made a bad situation worse. Combined with my general disillusionment with this dysfunctional society that I'm imprisoned in, I don't see any way that I'll be able to write at all for the foreseeable future, if at all. I feel like everything is falling apart around me and all I can do is watch. As such, I have abandoned writing for the time being since I barely have enough energy to get through the day. I'm sorry, I wish I could find a solution to my problems, but I can't. I hope I can stand to live long enough to see brighter days, if they even exist.
A new semester and a growing sense of fatalism
Posted 14 years agoWell, Several weeks have passed in theis new fall semester and already I see little change from last year. After going to great lengths to escape immature roommates and provide a way to get help form academic problems I find myself in much the same state as I was last year. As a result of my once again increasing depression and sense of fatalism, I do not know whether I will be able to do any witting for the foreseeable future. A thousand apologies in advance. Anyways, I now have to try to ignore my roommates that laugh like stupid donkeys and try to get some work done.
Summer Job
Posted 14 years agoI finally managed to land a summer job doing cleaning work at a public college that I worked for last summer. Besides the fact that it pays above the minimum wage that I would get doing similar work for wally world, I've also noticed that the public sector generally has more respect for its employees then the private sector who views its employees as means of raising stock prices. So my private life looks reasonably good which helps me ignore the fact that Michael Bay is making another shitty transformers movie.
Life on auto pilot
Posted 14 years agoThings have improved over the past few months, especially now that the spring semester is over and I have a replacement car. The society I'm forced to reside in may be as dysfunctional as ever, but as long as my personal life is relatively trouble free I can live with that unfortunate fact.
Anyways, hopefully I will be able to get some writing done.

Really Bad Writers Block
Posted 14 years agoI have not been able to do any writting as of late due to how stressful college has been. Had a nervious breakdown on wed and got in a car crash the following day on my way home. Needless to say, this has left me in a really depressed state where I hardly have enough energy to get up in the morning. I'v even considered offing myself several times.
In other news. Evan Bayh (DINO- Indiana), one of the biggest corporate sellouts out there is now joining Fake News as a contributor since he left the US Senate to "spend more time with his family."
UPDATE: my first car, the one involved in the crash is now a write off. I feel like a piece of my soul has been ripped from me.

Good news and Bad News about politics.
Posted 15 years agoJoe Lieberman, also know as senator droopy dog, will not seek reelection. So the good news is that this traitor and corporate shill will no be able to screw over america from with in the government.
The bad news is that he will probably become a consultant, aka lobbyist, to all of the monied interests that he acted as butt boy during his tenure in the senate. As a result, he can still screw us over to cover his disgusting and selfish ass.
Don't you just love our corrupt government.

Mormon Porn Sticks
Posted 15 years agoWhile aimlessly surfing the internet, I happened upon a company from Utah, aka Mormon Land, That sells a device for finding porn on a computer. It looks like an ordinary flash drive, but when plugged in, it looks for files that it suspects to be porn. Not only that, it can find files that have been removed from the recycle bin as well. A third party seller called Proof Pronto has a rather interesting video about the product, for which I will post a link below. They mention uses that I can fully support, like law enforcement agents using it to catching online Predators. However, they also feature two parents who are shoe-ins to win the Neurotic Parents of the Year Award. On a side note, I found it amusing how the prudish sales weasel for the company that makes this describes surfing the internet as a 'dirty' activity. Anyways, watch the video for a laugh or to confirm your paranoia.

2010 Elections -- Warning: Political Rant Ahead
Posted 15 years agoWell the long night of defeat is over. Thankfully it was not a total loss. Paladino, Angle, and O'donnell all went down in flames. Additionally, Joe Millers fortunes don't look too good even though that race remains uncalled. However, within my state of Pennsylvania, and most of the country for that matter, it was almost a repeat of 1994. Like that election, it was the end result of weak democrats and an electorate that in the majority suffers from two year amnesia and an ignorance that borders on masochism.
The republican T of PA, or as I like to call it cousin fucker land, in its infinite wisdom decided to elect the former attorney general Tom Corbett as governor. The only thing he even tried to accomplish in that office was grandstanding on repealing the watered-down health care bill. On top of this, he has campaigned on the platform of taking a battle axe to the state budget. As I see it, he'll either follow his promises and defund libraries, schools, and public services, or he'll follow the more standard republican pattern of making talking points of small government till he get elected. At that point he will get drunk with his own power.
As for the US Senate, the slight majority has decide to elect a former derivatives trader from Wall Street named Pat Toomy. Not only is he part of the amoral crowd that engineered the financial meltdown of 2008, but he is also much more extreme then the other republican who held his future seat, DICK Santorum. The american conservative union gave DICK a lifetime score of 88% out of 100. Toomy was given a 93%. So PA will be stuck with and extremist headache for the next six years that will make us all look like idiots.
So between PA's new grandstander in chief, Pat Tombstone, and all of the other races, the situation looks pretty grim. I don't know where things will go from here, but if the Clinton pattern is followed, I would bet good money on there being a federal government shutdown by John Boner or an Oklahoma City like domestic terrorist attack. I really need to immigrate to a country that is not so crazy conservative.

Car Trouble
Posted 15 years agoWell' my 15 year old car has decided to flip me the bird. I took it to get inspected and it failed due to an exhaust pipe and rear struts that need replacement. As it stands, I'm looking at a $1200 bill just to pass inspection. Since my car is at best worth $900, it looks like I'll be stuck borrowing one of my relatives cars.
Update:
Thankfully, one of my uncles had a 2000 S-10 pickup lying around that he had no need of. I don't know how long I will be driving this borderline juncker around, but the fact that there is talk of a title transfer says that it might be for a while. I won't deny that it is a slight improvement over my previous car with features like air conditioning, power windows, and power locks. However, since it has a slush box for a transmission, my left foot is going to get pretty antsy.
Update 2: Turns out, my car was not at bad off as the first garage said. I got a second opinion on the matter and all my car needed was some minor body and exhaust work. The end result is a not cheap at around $300, but thats better then paying nearly a 1000 extra. Now I won't have to drive a car with a slush box transmission for the foreseeable future.

Controversial meme; Why the hell not
Posted 15 years ago[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
yeah, why not
[02] Would you do meth if it was legalized?
No, I don't want to look like trailer trash.
[03] Abortion: for or against it?
This is going to piss off a lot of moral absolutists, but my opinion on abortion is dependent on the circumstances. I agree with the status quo that was set in place by roe v wade. Namely that third term abortions are always against the law except in cases of endangering the mothers life, Second term abortions are subject to state restrictions, and first term abortions are legal for any reason. Besides, in the good old days that the republicans idolize, namely the 15th century, birth was considered the start of life, not fertilization.
[04] Do you think a country would fail with a female president?
As long as its not Sharon Angle, Sarah Palin, or Michelle Bachman , no.
[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?
As the late George Carlin said I don't care about the death penalty either way because it does not do any thing except satisfy a kind of biblical need for revenge. not an exact quote but close enough.
[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
Yes, It was originally banned for racist reasons. Namely getting rid of surplus mexican day laborers during the great depression. When that was found unconstitutional it was re-banned by tricky dick to attack his political enemies.
[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?
In favor, as long as its done with protection.
[08] Do you believe in God?
No, religion is a lie used by the powerful to control the powerless.
[09] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
yes
[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
Whats wrong is the fact that they are being treated like modern day slave labor. All too often, politicians use illegal immigrants to drum up support from two voting blocks. The first being businesses that hire illegals on the cheep. They create conditions where illegals can be terrorized by threats like, do a better job or we'll report you to ICE. The other group are the racists who want any excuse to abuse brown people. All that being said, I think that illegals who come here without a criminal record should be directed to the proper channels that will allow them to become a citizen and escape the abusive system that they are trapped in.
[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
No. Pregnancy is stressful enough for a fully grown adult who has a supportive spouse and family. Still, the final decision should be with the girl. In addition, if she decides to keep the fetus, the guy who did that to her should have to pay child support.
[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
Yes, especially if you join the military. Where your going, you'll need it.
[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?
Yes. I was started for stupid reasons and it is continued for stupid reasons. These reasons being the lobbying power of the defense and oil industries.
[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
Why should government punish any one involved in suicide at all. I will, however, make an exception for creeps like this nurse who talked people in to offing themselves on webcam for his amusement. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_Ul2MY794c)
[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?
As long as its not done for self gratifying reasons.
[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
yes, as george carlin said, I leave symbols to the symbol minded.
[17] Who do you think would have made a better president? McCain or Obama?
Both political parties are set up to screw the general public. The difference is in how they screw you. The Republikkkans are open and brazen in the fact that they are butt boys for the monied interests. The democrats pretend to be for the people, but sell out to corporate interests behind our back, as what happened with health insurance and financial reform. In the end it is a cliche lesser of two evils argument where you must decide if you are going to be brutally raped or thoughtfully raped. That being said, I generally vote democrat, except in the primaries. Since my state has a closed primary system, I am a registered Republican so I can vote out the extremists.
[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
No, every one is entitled to their own opinion. That is unless you live in North Korea, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, list goes on to name every despotic country in the universe.
yeah, why not

Great French Commercial
Posted 15 years agoWhile searching youtube, I found this commercial fro some french aftershave. Not only does it have a very attractive cougar in it, but it also has a brief dalliance with human/furry pron. SHame that is has been taken off the air. It's also a shame that commercials like this will never run in amerikkka.
Anyways, Enjoy

First Entry and New OS
Posted 15 years agoI've been meaning to start this for some time, but until now I have not found an appropriate topic. That changed on friday when I bought Snow Leopard. I got a macbook back in 2007 which was equipped with Tiger. It was a good OS, Certainly better than Windows XP, and from my limited experience with vista, I'd venture its better than that. However it was starting to show its age, so for my birthday, I decide to use some of the money I've saved up to buy Snow Leopard. So far I'm very impressed. Apple has taken a good OS and made It even better. The improvements to Finder, iCal, and iPhoto are all very much appreciated on my part.
