No BLFC this year, but...
Posted 7 years agoKinda sadface, because it's a good chance to see my coastal fur friends again.
But!
Did manage to get tix to Burningman and have a nifty microtrailer being built for the adv motorcycle to get my stuff there! So I'm pretty happy with how things panned out.
After 2 years away, Camp Drinko is pretty much gone by now, I think? Campin with Rev, Emu, n Tsyuoto, and will be participating in Burning Band this year, been learning / practicing trombone for that. Gotta start designing a tiny shade and solar setup that will fit on the bike.
Full on mad max Nomad cycle. :3
Best part, Pistachio gets to go be blinky again in front of the sound camps and art cards he was designed for ^.^
Tiny blue camp is go! )'(

USB powered, FLAT-FOLDING Fursuit Drying Gear
Posted 8 years agoWe love them, but hey, they make you (and the audience) sweat a bit!
Now you can dry them a lot easier at a con, at home, whereever!
All designs are USB powered for ease of use, and flat-folding to be mega-compact.
At a con? Spray a bit of EnBac, then dry off your paws, head, and body keep your suits fresh! USB fans are quiet, won't disturb your guests or roomies.
At home? Use them to dry off your costumes after a full soak. They can take the weight no problem.
On the road? They pack extremely flat, leaves more space in your luggage for things you really want! USB power is universally available.

Denver Permanent
Posted 8 years agoLast day. Waiting on appraisal, and the final numbers.
Bear and I 99% likely, have a home in Lakewood. FINALLY. So many years of renting, to finally paint my own walls, tidy things up, and make something pretty on a big scale. :D

Updates
Posted 8 years agoWork is moving along. Want it to go faster, but I can't be rushing people and their dreams.
Appreciate everyone's patience, and the feedback and support. Feeling super good about the art lately. Not being soulcrushed by the costs of living anymore is an unimaginable boone to being creative and motivated.
Atm: Suits
1)Ogg Minotaur: taking his time, so kinda on the back burner as feedback trickles in. Fur n foam n eyes ready to go.
2)Saki Redcoon: final sizing is all he needs. :)
3)Wolphy's AWD: Carved, fankit in, paws n feet done. Fur incoming, then probably the most complex body ever coming up. ^.^ There are RULES to AWD markings. Well, sort of. White can not touch brown fur, must have black bandings between all colours! Bwa.
4)Xerox Dragon: just starting as #1 goes dormant. Carving foam head today ^.^
Atm: Dryers
1) Headstand Dryers MK1 go on sale soon. Likely sending them all to FWA, possibly sold at
keovi table!
2) Bodydryers: Last pieces being finalized for the production. Final proofs and contracts from Ultimax soon.
3) Headstand Dryers MK2: Need final proofs and contracts from Ultimax, will spool these up soon as MK1 are sold. Fan kit is ready, gets new plastic, new design.
4) Paw Dryers MK1: Waiting on resupply of fans from Shanghai.
5) Paw Dryers MK2: Prototyping
Atm: Moving! (aqain)
OK, since University, I have moved dozen+ times now. I am a pro at this :D
BUT!!!!!! This time, it's for KEEPS!
So like, yeah,
sylffor and I are finally getting a place of our own. Gonna try n make Denver a permanent home. Likely Lakewood area, once done, then I can finally hire some nearby tailoring help. Going Solo leaves me only like 4, max 5 hours of actual building time a day. The rest is admin stuff, and now includes a metric buttload of paperwork and visiting potential locations.
I am thankfull that I helped a roomie buy a house once in Vancouver, so I sort of have an idea of what's about to happen.

Posted 8 years agoYou are all awesome!
I have never tried manufacturing before. It's been a fun adventure. Previously, after 6 weeks of work, Arend+You came together and made the fanstands happen. ($3000+ in crowdfunding helped invest in the original order of 400 headstands). They have been happily selling from storenvy ever since. Now we even have a distributor at CFz! What! Crazy. Now I have to learn all about markup and good vendor practices. Homework never f'in ends. ;)
Last week I got a CADsketch for the new hanger design I was working on, from our new design partner at Ultimax (also a fur-owned shop, so hey, support your local fandom!)
Not even 6 days have gone by and I am already overwhelmed by your support. We didn't even have a thing to show you other than a sketch ^.^ I'm super touched.
Today I have the first working prototype on the table, and I am busy fabrinoodling the final pieces, and arranging a surprise bit of schwag for all our wonderful patrons.
Love you guys!
It really is something special to be able to just, I dunno, create stuff. Hard to describe that. I really appreciate this freedom.

Posted 8 years agoSo the fursuit dryer hangers that were supposed to happen maybe later sometime, are kinda happening now. :D
Like, over half of the needed slots for crowdfundin the primary cut order have been placed. I am atm working with a whitewater rafting company to get heavy duty clippy buckles on order to connect the hanger halves to whatever you want to hang it from. (Variety of closet dowels, even odd surfaces, never off a sprinkler head!!!)
Heavy ABS this time for the weight of a wet fursuit. (Fanstands were HDPE, which has hypoalergenic qualities we liked for head drying)
Flat packing! No more giant wetsuit hanger in your luggage, eating up space.
USB! Use a battery for portable power anywhere, or an extension cord + phone charger for those odd closets with no power nearby.
The presale price is $55, which includes shipping and schwag!
(if you were involved in the fanstand presale, don't worry, we have MORE NEW SCHWAG planned this time. BUT ITS A SECRET!!! ^.^)
Send me a note if you would like to reserve yours. We will only bill folks once the physical prototype is complete, and the remaining preorder patrons are ready to commit their actual monies to the project. We're taking names now, with the idea that you're really really likely to buy what we come up with.
After that, the remainin hangers will be on our storenvy site for regular sale. (No free shipping and less schwag at regular sale prices)

Posted 9 years agoAnd not the pot kind, the kind that took 8+ years of work, the support of friends and a really amazing lawyer, and it's finally, finally done! :D
Not just a visitor, I actually live here now :D Was completely overwhelmed when I opened this letter yesterday. Indescribably happy, unbelievably relieved to off my visas, no risk of splitting up me n sylffor sylffor anymore, which was always in the back of my mind for so many years.
Wooooooooo!
Some good news in times where it's hard to find. :D
Should be getting the new plastic card by Christmas :D :D :D :D

Posted 9 years agoJust waiting on my new Colorado resellers permit. So close to being done with the long wait and time off work. Doing paws has been keeping me sane, but I have a lot of overdue stuff from California I am also eager to clear out (finally).
The cheaper cost of living over here has really helped out! Like wow. :)

Help! Setting up Streaming
Posted 9 years agoNow to choose hardware and a format. What do you guys prefer? Twitch seems best, livestream worked well for overseas folks previously. Ustream is still a thing too.
Sadly, don't have a pc anywhere close to the shop table, so limited to streaming from an android phone
Possibly can get a smol laptop, but that's more investment than I want in this lil project for now.

We moved!
Posted 9 years agoAnd now begins the tedium of paperwork and rebuilding in our new home in Denver, CO.
The last paperwork was filled today to close the CA location. Now waiting on mt Colorado Drivers licence so I can put in the paperwork to start the CO biz, start paying taxes and find some new help ^.^
Work is going to be slow, have much to catch up on with the last few months of California having taken a severe toll on me mentally and financially. Coworker having taken temporary leave the past 6 months did not help. >.<
Lots to do, gotta be patient with gov't paperwork first. But we're no longer living in boxes, woot! :D

NEW paw designs, many of them! Kigupaws PlushPaws Hoofypaws!
Posted 9 years agoJust finished upgrading all our paws! Still offer all the classic designs, but plush paws and low-profile cuddlefur is the way new things are going :)
NEW NEW NEW check the
whiteyfawks page for the photo dump that goes along with this! ^.^
We now offer:
1) Kigu/Plushpaws: CuddleFur fingers+thumb. Double lined, thinly padded on the pawpads side, plush padded on the knuckle side. This keeps them all soft from all angles, yet still bendable and usable. This let us remove the seam inside the fingers, now hidden up in all the padding. It also gave us a forward facing seam, so plush claws are now an option. These are lower in profile than standard paws, to fit better with Kigurumi or partials.
2) Hoof paws: thumb + large mittin hoof, /w opt horseshoe design. Double lined in cuddlefur, very plush padded hoof.
3)Goat/Sheep paws: thumb = 2 plush padded, split hooves. Double lined with cuddlefur as well.
4) Sockpaws: our toony 4-toe outdoor paws now indoors! We removed the shoe and the hard sole, and replaced it with fur, pawpads and a snug fitting sock. These are great as indoor paws, or for lounging.
5) Slipperpaws: Much like sockpaws, but we replaced the sock with a soft cuddlefur liner. A bit looser to wear, but decadent under your bare soles. :3 These are the ultimate in at-home lounge paws.
6) Kaiju paws: These were goofy huge, all plush, worn as a sockpaw. If someone wants more, we can make more :D
Anyderp, it's been super fun to develop these over the past 2 weeks, and I hope you'll like them too! :)

Automagic Fursuit Travel Fans
Posted 10 years agoYes! We are planning to make more!
The 8 demo units built for FurtherConfusion survived 5 days in the headless lounges! Acid test passed. Good info gained for V2 tweaks
The laser cutting does need some work yet. The 60watt machine was pushing too much heat into the plastic sheet, an it began to bow, knocking the laser out of alignment for the next pass. Low power meant less warping, but far too many passes. 1/4" HDPE may not be the way to go ^.^ Delrin or Acrylic next. Want to keep it somewhat flexible, to prevent any shattering.
And with the new version planed to be USB, they will be less powerful, but far more universally usable. Most folks have 5V usb chargers for their various tech, even a USB battery could do in a pinch for remote-suiting options. (Camping? BurningMan?)
For conventions, the 12V server fan model worked nicely. We could figure out power ahead of time, and get the correct 120 or 240 adapters. Most ran at 12V 1A, some had the full 12V/3A, and were exceptionally angry beasties at full tilt. :D
Fun stuff ^.^

Decompressed after FurCon2016 - Dealers Room Summary
Posted 10 years agoNew for the year, I moved from Costume track lead, to Marketplace/Dealers Room lead. (As well as keeping Parade Marshall, Masq Lead, and panelist, oi busy!)
Overall, I LOVED IT!!! 7am-8pm in my blue kigu, shivering away at the front desk. :3 Room was BRRRRR cold at the start (Hotel met the challenge, and set us to 52f! Bumped to 56f for Friday onward, that seemed the sweet spot). Not being 80f and fenchy was such a joy! Pizza during setup was once again a big hit, we'll keep doing that. :) Some registration issues that got dropped in my lap, but sorted in time. Had a few OMGHalp moments with some vendors Tax ID/EDD issues, but we were able help to sort those out too.
There apparently was a small, brief vendor volume concern, but people were neighborly and sorted it out on their own. Awesome! We all got along swimmingly.
Everything, sorted!
THANK YOU!!! to the marketplace/dealers team of Groggy, SmackJackal, LisaLynx, RebaLioness (And husbando), Noriko and Miyuko (and your wee tot, best mascot we have ever had). You all were amazing. The dealers and marketplace vendors were all happy n selling well, real well by most accounts.
Thank you to every artist and patron who took the time to answer my many questions, providing really useful feedback for this noob to use. :) :)
So, things I am suggesting for next year:
1) A first aid box at the con store: We had about a dozen little papercuts, hey, we're artists, we bleed!
2) Single page to buy your table, and register badges/patron/sponsor level. These happen as two separate departments behind the scenes of FurCon, but we would like to present it to the artists as a single page experience. Many forgot to buy badges on page #2, as we're all very busy with no time for reading things!
3) No scores for the jury selection. It was an unfortunate metric needed for the waiting list that became an unintentional critique, a kick to every ego involved. The con (by way of me having to email many folks in the postmortem) has apologized profusely. Again, we're all really sorry. :/
3b) Jury process will remain, it worked, we're not changing this. Historically, the Dealer Room manager did selection by themselves, which lead to a lot of bias/expectations/gaffe I had to break for 2016.
.... annnnnnd ....
3c) We do need to be more clear on what the jury expectations are. We'll post more clear definitions of what you should show when applying, and why.
Some didn't submit reference artwork, or verify their links. This probably hurt your chances.. A few non-furry vendors tried to apply, which we removed. The remaining marketplace and dealers applied to a highly competitive business area. This is a professional furry market. We will treat you as such, you deserve no less. Some new/novice vendors joined us this year with really neat things to sell. Many cornerstone type vendors were present, such as the print media vendors who represent yet more artists not present. Many veteran/popufur artists made it, as expected. The diversity we achieved was super pleasant.
In Summary:
In 2016 we had vendors of an apparent "quality" that the fandom desired, and itself help select. No system can be 100% perfect, but this year seemed to benefit both the vendors and the attendees, if only by sales volume. Dealers reported to me that FurCon is still one of their most profitable events. We had numerous vendors sell out of their entire stock. (Solid desire there for your wares, congrats!) Dealers go home with cash, fans go home with arts, everyone's happy. Frankly, that is my main concern as a manager. I consider 2016 a success in that regard.
PS, I don't know who the 7 jurors were, so don't ask ^.^

Attending any events?
Bwahahahahaha. FurCon is an event, start to finish ^.^ I try to attend what I can, as my con duties allow. You guys come first! Welcome to our hometown. :)
I will be hosting the dealer den/marketplace when it's open.
Paper Tigers! - Art and Craft Jam session with Reveille. Come build a tiny tail before you head back home.
Advanced Materials - Lance Ikegawa and I talking about sfx materials and their safe use. Really, solid, info.
How to Eat and Elephant (and build that first costume) - RedXIX, 8ft Rabbit, and MadeFurYou and I on second stage, talking about art, costumes, and the process of making anything happen. This is not a technical class, more a phycological journey into the arts, what it's like, and what to expect along the way. The motivation and guidance you need to keep pushing yourself.
Masquerade - HUGE CHANGES HERE
No more advanced level, builders in this fandom get plenty of promotion as is every #fursuitfriday, no?. ^.^ We're focusing on the individuals this year, and the costumes people have built to express themselves and their individuality. There will also be no scheduled skits, or acts. We'll provide an open ballroom, and 50's music. Come, hang out, dance, or don't. Three judges will browse, and then announce our winners around the 45min mark, and then 15min for congratulations and wind-down.
And since people will be taking heads off in here to relax and cool off, there will be NO PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED.
We'll see how this goes. Brand new format :)
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
Be open, be excited, be happy, be thankful.
I am happy to be volunteering as Dealers Den Manager, as well as Masquerade host, and a few costume panels again this year. ^.^

Conglomco LLC
Posted 10 years agoFA is what it is. Lotsa people here, so I will continue to post here. A larger sponsor can help eat the costs. Not keen on any possible redistribution stuff by IMVU, but them's the beans. You post online, it's basically out of your paws no matter which internet tube you shove it into. ;)
Just gonna make fuzzy, post fuzzy online. People like fuzzy. Easy. :D
I also post to these other fine places:

Project #500
Posted 10 years agoSo, many years of working within the fandom, and I am approaching project #500!!!
!! TIME TO CELEBRATE!! :D :D
So, in a rare turn, I am going to offer an auction for a full custom fursuit. It will have whatever you want! All of Arends tech and trade is on the table. Custom NFT accent fur, digitigrade legs, padding, wings, horns, heck, even hornwings!!
I have been building for the fandom since 90's, and it's been the most fantastic thing ever. I have met some very incredible folks, get to work with talented folks (Codydawg n Lesa are my awesome cohorts!) I am happy to offer this to my fandom, and give back to all the amazing people in it *wags* ^.^
Cheers, and details will be coming shortly. We just realized this while out on a hike, so ya. Spur of the moment!

I remember well, the old Chelsey Hotel
Posted 11 years agoLookin forward to RMFC this year, as I toil away on my AC rush. Progress is good lately. Haven't made that many cons due to immigration, but that's all done with now. I like cons; good for sitting, good for drinking, good for capering. I also really want to ride the bike to a con again. And hey, Chance totally packs into my saddlebags. :D
