Spring is here!
Posted 14 years agoAhhhh, springtime. my favorite time of year. the flowers are in full bloom, schools starting to get filled with the "end of the year" jitters, and for some reason, my hair gets unremarkably soft and shiny. I just got back from D.C. where I lobbied congress for the passing of the Safe Schools Improvement Act, and the Student Non-Discrimination act, along with GLSEN( which, if you didn't know, is the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network.) shall be uploading pics of that soon enough. I cut my hair AGAIN! and I really like the way it came out this time. I also will be trying to get out a lot more, visit more friends now that the depressing winter snow has finally moved on and I can finally wear flip-flips again without getting frostbite. hopefully I'll stop being so goddamn pale and get my Florida tan back! (although with my current Internet addiction, that seems highly unlikely.) I hope you all are having a wonderful springtime, and that much good fortune comes to you. Oh and also, if you're an NC fur and we've yet to hang out at least once, send me an instant message, a note, and email, or something, because I really want to meet a lot more of you guys!
All the best!

Gay marriage
Posted 14 years ago All of the arguments I see against gay marriage are about either God or Nature. the God argument is that marriage is a religious institution and Homosexuality is a sin and, therefore, same sex marriages are against the Christian teachings. Very well, but what about marriages performed under different religions? Say a Pagan handfasting, for example? If that religion has no problem with it, should they be banned from performing them as well?
The other argument, the Nature argument, states that same-sex marriage is wrong because two men, or two women, can not have a child. This raises some serious questions with me. This goes under the assumption that the only reason people get married is to have children. Does that mean that the elderly can not get married? what about infertile couples? Are their marriages void now? There are a plethora of people who get married for an indeterminable amount of varying reasons. Many of them don't even have children, or choose to adopt. That invariably will raise the argument that children do better with Heterosexual Parents, or that having gay parents will make you gay. firstly, let me ask, am I straight because my parents were straight? the answer is obviously no, seeing as I am not straight; and secondly, even if you ignore the insurmountable amount of evidence that proves that children of same-sex couples do just as well, if not better, than their Nuclear family couterparts.
In conclusion, both arguments against gay marriage, have just been proven to be void. If you define marriage as a religious institution, then so be it, but why try and impress your views onto other religious institutions. And if your argument is that same-sex couples can not have children, are marriages between old and infertile couples void as well?

President Obama declares DOMA will not be defended in courts
Posted 14 years ago You know, as much of a diehard liberal I am, even I was growing weary of Obama's tactics, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt, seeing as he had such a hot mess of a country handed to him by someone who should have never been president in the first place. But now it seems he is finally staying true to his promises of change, and equality for that matter. President Obama recently declared that the federal courts will no longer be upholding the discriminatory Defense Of Marriage Act, which severely limited state's rights to rule on LGBT marriage, which is a major step for those of us in the LGBT community. will update later.
Everytime you watch Jersey shore, a book commits suicide.
Posted 14 years ago Lets make it the other way around. whether it be hardcopy, paperback, Kindle, iPad, iPhone, iTouch, I don't care which, just start reading. I read the DaVinci code at like 8, so I've always had to deal with people in my age group ranking lower than me when it comes to the intellectual pursuits, not to sound pretentious or anything, just stating facts. While I'm ready to admit that with the influx of technology that leads us away from these aspects, and I'll admit that I'm a bit of a tech addict myself, people need to still try and focus on doing things that are a little more intellectually stimulating than watching some stupid bitch who uses too much self tanner go around sleeping with a bunch of guido bastards. I don't care which book it is, it's still a book. I recently finished "the Metamorphesis" by Franz Kafka myself, and am starting "The Divine Comedy" by Dante Alighieri. while It's one of the first books I've actually found challenging, the other being "The Pictorial Key to the Tarot" I forget the author, it's turning out to be a pretty good read. But I digress. my point is, the intelligence of our country is declining, sharply. While there are a few exceptions, we have nobody to blame but ourselves. when the popular children's show Sesame Street aired, it vastly improved education for our society. Kidergarten teachers were now teaching their students 1st grade material, the children having learned the basics from said show. while this doesn't seem like much, I must remind you that we absorb the most information in our early youth, this is why we are able to pick up are primary language so easily, and the rest is so difficult. The brain matter become solidified, and we lose the ability to pick up information as quickly.
That being said, my theory is this: If parents would take the time to read to their children, try and teach them as much basics as they could in their early years, and place them in a nurturing environment, we wouldn't have such a nation of useless twits. I hate to sound ostentatious here, but this has to be said. Set a better example for your children, read to them, care for their future, instead of just letting a potentially valuable mind waste away. It's too often that I see someone who has so much potential, and yet they waste it simply because they don't know any better. While I hate to toot my own horn here, I am a prime example of this, from a purely objective point of view.
While I grew up without knowing a father, and having a useless mother, I had the good fortune to be raised by my grandparents, who read to me, had me do educational things, and did their very best. up until I was nine years old, I lived with them, and I was doing amazing academically, for my age that is, I wasn't doing calculus in the fourth grade or anything, but my literacy skills were *apparently* off the charts.. at age ten, I moved in with my deadbeat mother, which turned out to be a TERRIBLE decision, hindsight's 20/20 as they say. my grades plummeted and while some of it was due to my own laziness, I have to accredit a lot of it to a shitty environment. A drunk mother, no father figure, save for the drunken, idiotic stepfather she picked, and a constant uncertainty of where my next meal was coming from, or where I would be sleeping that evening; I quickly became a borderline student. After freshman year, I moved back in with my loving grandparents, and after a brief, transitional sophmore year, I entered my Junior year confidant. I recently got my grades for the first semester, (which with the weird block system my school district has, means I just finished three classes and an internship) and I did great, I got two A's and two B's, I scored the highest out of any of my teacher's classes on the Biology end of course exam, and I got great marks for my internship, as well as my senior project, (a strange replacement for the required community service many schools require.) Now I'm not saying this to say that I'm superior in anyway, which I'm not. I'm saying this to prove a point.
My point is: environment makes the biggest difference in a youth's life. The majority of LGBT youth who find themselves kicked from their homes drop out of school, many inner city children are prone to low grades and dropping out as well. if we as a community would take the time to help our youth, instead of throwing up roadblock after roadblock in their way, maybe we wouldn't rank 25th in math and science for the world.
I know I may seem to contradict myself, or that I'm rambling, (which I probably am) but my points are still valid.
quit pushing shit like "Jersey Shore."
parents - create a better environment for your children so they don't wind up the kind that others write angry journal posts about.
and that we as a society have a lot of growing up to do.

Posted 14 years agoThose who do not learn from their mistakes...
Posted 14 years agoI hate it when people say that they don't hate the LGBT community, they just want to protect the "traditional" institutions and promote the bible. This is just the exact same argument we've been listening to for close to a century. First the issue was slavery, and you know who was promoting it? The super religious nutbags who wanted to "protect a traditional institution that was ratified by religion" that's right folks. the exect. same. fucking. argument. they pulled their quotes from leviticus as well. People also used religion to try and keep interracial marriages from happening, and many said they were just "protecting the institution of marriage." So why, after hearing the exact same argument for this long, do people still not see that it's just thinly veiled hate and bigotry? I suppose it fits in with the philosophy of "those who do no learn from their mistakes are domed to repeat them." More and more evidence that we are born lesbian, born gay, born bisexual, and born transgender is revealed each day. and these people continue to ignore the evidence and push out as many bigoted lies as they can. I personally hold these people responsible for the insurmountable numbers of LGBT kids who are turned from their homes by their bigoted families, the astounding amount of LGBT citizens around the world who have been killed just for the fact that they're different, and the even more awe-inspiring amount of LGBT youths that have killed themselves. I just can't understand it.
running WoW via WINE
Posted 14 years agook, so I'm having some trouble running WoW in ubuntu, I've been having this problem ever since I tried to play. I've reinstalled it 3 times and everytime I do, it's a different problem. right now, the problem is weird. I can open the game, and log in just fine, no lag or anything, but the minuite it tries to connect to the server(the initial connecting, where it pulls up the character list, not getting into the game worlk). it freezes at the "connected" part. the entire game freezes and the curser just goes back to the regular mouse cursor. I can't do anything either, I have to turn the computer off manually, with the button, and then back on in order to do anything.

WoW is going the wrong way with their expansion
Posted 14 years agonot content wise, that's fine, I'm talking about the fact that you need the previous expansions, in order to use the latest expansion, you have to buy the ones before it (i.e. I can't have the original WoW and just go out and buy cataclysm, I need to get burning crusade and Wrath of the lich king first) Eventually, they're going to run out of new subscribers, because the cost to buy all the expansions is going to become to much. I feel they should go the way of the sims expansion packs (you can pick and choose which expansions you buy)

First journal
Posted 15 years agoSo this is my first journal on my new account, which my old one was
VarunaRabbit I made a new name and made a new FA! I also have an amazing boyfriend who I love and talk about all the time named Kyte who is over here
Wicked_Angel And I will always love him forever and ever and ever.
This is totally not his mate writing this out, nope. And even if it was, and I got upset at him for doing so, I would still love him very very much, and will make him a sandwhich if we lived together.
Totally not Kyte, whom I love a lot!
