Offical "Star Captains: ASTRA-TG" FA Account!!
Posted 14 years agoA few of you might have noticed my occasionally hinting at a project I've had in the works to build my own tabletop gaming system from scratch. I've posted a couple related drawings to my main FA account here from time-to-time, but otherwise I've stayed rather quiet about the whole thing...
Well that's changing.
Now that I've got steady play testers, and after close to two years of development, I'm finally going to start drumming up some attention to my little pet project.
Star Captains: ASTRA-TG is a tabletop RPG system in the works by yours truly that focuses on tactical combat in a futuristic space-opera sci-fi setting. The game focuses on making each player's character the captain of their own starship, allowing for involved space-combat game-play for all players.
The official FA page: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/starcaptains
The Star Captains FA page will begin to update regularly with concept art and small bits of info about the game. Be sure to give it a +watch and stay tuned for more info!

Opening TWO Pre-Order Watercolor Badge Slots for Oklacon!!
Posted 14 years agoThat's right hombres, for the first time -ever- I'm doing pre-order badges for Oklacon.
I'm only opening two slots (with Oklacon so near that's all I could guarantee being able to finish), and they're first come, first serve.
Price is $25. Only taking payment via Paypal for these.
Here's an example of what you'd be getting:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6434061
Pre-order badges will be picked up at Oklacon (although if you can't make it for any reason, toss me an extra $5-10 for shipping and I'll make sure it gets to you).
Don't delay, supplies are limited!!!!

Y'know what's awesome? Commissioning people.
Posted 14 years agoSo due to some unforeseen "shenanigans" bills are coming up rather tight for the house I'm staying at. And as such,
kadenshadows and
karja are open for emergency commissions to help stabilize their bill situation. Go check them out! They do some pretty slick stuff, and their queue isn't as long as mine. :3
Also, despite my large queue I am also always open for commissions. This would also be good, 'cause paying my rent in advance would help them out, too :P

Tattoo Apprenticeship: I have one.
Posted 14 years agoApologies for the lack of updates lately. The past couple of weeks have been hectic, what with MFM and a previously unmentioned trial tattoo apprenticeship. See, a local tattoo shop posted to Craigslist for a new apprentice, and they held one-week trials for all the applicants.
And I got it :D
So now I'm officially a tattoo apprentice! It might me a slight slowing of commission work, but since commissions will still be my primary income source for the duration of my (unpaid) apprenticeship they'll still have high priority. Plus, I can work on most of it during down-time in the shop.

Oh by the way, MFM
Posted 14 years agoYup, I'm going.
Will be trying to set up in Artist's Ally.
Come buy crap off of me; I need rent money.
Hope to see you there!

Rise of the Sexy Robo Kill-Bots
Posted 14 years ago So, sitting at home all the time drawing often leaves me looking for ways to break up the monotony.... One of those ways is testing/screwing with IM ad-bots.
Yeah, I know there's probably nobody reading my replies on the other end, but I get an odd kick out of screwing with a sub-sentient computer program.
It started out a few years back where anytime I'd get a message on IM from someone I didn't know, I'd ask them "Are you a bot?", and the subsequent "my friend & i R 19 on webcame want 2 C?!" was a good tip-off to the question of their humanity.
That is, until they started getting smarter.
Now I'm sure some of you might have noticed this, that now most bots nowadays will reply based somewhat on what you say to them, specifically the word 'bot' will be met with some variant of "lol I'm not a bot". The first time it happened to me though, the thing didn't immediately try and link me to hot asian rim-jobs, but actually held a semi-interesting "A/S/L" style conversation with me for a bit. When it finally linked me it's wares, I replied "*bad aussie accent* Clever bot...." and blocked them.**
Needless to say, this worried me. The bots were learning.
Now, I began to slowly realize, I had to be careful. Simply uttering the word 'bot' would not be enough anymore. I had to adapt.
So I began making Terminator references to anybody whom I didn't immediately know over IM. Paranoid ramblings about how Skynet and how the person would have to prove they where human, calling out John Connor's name to deliver us from these cold, soulless monsters, etc.
Predictably bots failed this test every time, but not without a few nearly-convincing tries.
That is.... Until today:
[19:44] kevlhawk: hi
[19:54] asnaghall: Hiya :3
[19:54] kevlhawk: i hope you wanna to chat with a horny girI 2day...
[19:55] asnaghall: You're no girl, you're a heartless machine!
[19:55] kevlhawk: ok.. i'm not a machine.. R u? lol what are we playing terminator roles?? lol
[19:56] asnaghall: Waaaait a minute. So, you're not a bot?
[19:56] kevlhawk: what's a bot??
[19:57] asnaghall: Automated programs that randomly message people for advertising purposes.
[19:58] kevlhawk: i'm 24
[19:58] asnaghall: So, prove to me you're human, and not just the most clever machine that has messaged me to date.
[19:58] kevlhawk: i'm 24
[19:58] asnaghall: Yup, no. Not human. Still a little surprised you had a reply to my Terminator reference.
[19:59] asnaghall: ... Which only makes me more paranoid.
[19:59] kevlhawk: Unable to send message: Client rate limit exceeded
[19:59] kevlhawk: i am a IittIe busy right now, just got a new Iaptop trying to set my cam up..
[19:59] asnaghall: *headshakes* Clever, clever bot
[19:59] kevlhawk: uggh no i'm not are u???? lolz
[20:01] asnaghall: Oh god, even if you where human your inability to type proper English... Wait, oh god, you can even emulate our expressions and colloquialisms. You've evolved beyond pure logic. We're FUCKED!
[20:01] kevlhawk: i have a fetish for being on cam ;)
[20:01] asnaghall: Most automated kill-bots do.
Ok, to my credit I was slightly disarmed going in with a name like "keylhawk" (hell that sounds like someone who'd legitimately IM me), but still....
I didn't even -MAKE- an out-right Terminator joke and the bot picked up on it. So either I'm not the only one out there making Terminator jokes (to the extent that the bots have had to adapt), or I have single-handedly (inadvertently) selectively-bred the bots to adapt even further.
It's like antibiotics breeding super-strains of bacteria.
The only place to go from here, is to call it's bluff. If I get another bot smart enough to respond to my Terminator references. I'll take them up on that offer of 'Terminator role-play". Except it'll be a cross-franchise slash piece between Optimus Prime and one of those flying machines Skynet built.
So maybe the Machines taking over won't be so bad. I mean, worst they'll do is enslave us with free porn and sex-bots. Which, y'know, not a bad way for our civilization to go out.
Just sayin'.
** I use to have that particular IM session saved, but sadly that hard-drive died a while ago, taking my first true run-in with 'The Machines' with it.

Means, dear commissioners, that I'm going to be slow to update 'til I get adjusted to the new place.

1,000 watchers!
Posted 14 years agoYeah, I know I semi-posted about this already in my previous journal, but hell.
saxfyle had the fortune of being my 1k watcher, so thank you sir :3
I'll be peckin' at that "20k view, 1k watcher" picture I promised before over the next week.
Y'know, if I remember <.<;
Seriously though, thank you again everybody! You have no idea how much of my self-esteem stems from my FA stats... Seriously o.o

20,000 pageviews!!
Posted 14 years agoAw snap, people.
Somebody likes me.
Twenty-thousand times.
Seriously though, thank you to everyone who's given my humble little page a look-see over the years. I really appreciate you guys taking a liking to my crappy doodles and paintings, and it really helps boost my spirits and keep my head in my art-related shenanigans.
*does the "Happy Artist" dance*
Soon as I get to 1,000 watchers (ten more to go), I plan on doing a duel "Thank You" picture for all my fans (all both of you... Wait, hard for me to keep making that joke with 1k watchers around the corner *cough*). I plan on it being like, birds and dogs and crap, but since it'll be almost as much for you guys as my own sick 'artistic expression', do you guys have any suggestions? :P

Commission prices
Posted 14 years agoCurrent commission rates are as follow:
Per character: Costs are calculated off the $10 base lineart per character, plus additional coloration and shading (example: A color pencil single character would be $30; $10 lineart + $20 for color pencil)
Pencil linework: $10 http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5412262/
Graphite shading: +$5 http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4229100/
Color pencil: +$20 http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5552456/
Watercolors: +$30 http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4046160/
Simple background: +$5
Detailed background: +$20
Complex equipment/clothing/etc.: +$10
As for content; I'm fine with drawing pretty much anything you see in my gallery. Subject matters I'm not comfortable drawing (or more importantly, comfortable posting publicly) I usually simply charge double for.
If you have any questions, feel free to note me here on FA. I'm never 'closed' to commissions, but bear in mind I maintain a rather HUGE queue of work at any given time (I make all my income from this), so it may take a while for me to get to your commission.

Wild Nights recap: I'm home (in one piece).
Posted 14 years agoSo this is the first con that's tried to straight-up kill me.
Constant rain, flash-flooding, tornadoes.... If the rain hadn't let up when it did, the con would've been stuck at the campground for another day or two.
I'd go into details, but I'm sleep deprived and grumpy so it'd just come off as bitching.
Despite all the mishaps (read: acts of a vengeful pagan god) I did manage to have fun and work enough in commissions to cover my expenses.
... But man, just glad to be home safe right now. Soon as this brewing con-crud settles down I'll start back up on art.
.....
Talk about some "Wild Nights", am I right!?!
... Sorry.

Furry Fiesta!
Posted 14 years agoA-yup, I'm going!
Will be heading down with
seagullprophet per usual.
Going to be hosting a panel Friday afternoon, and Sunday morning. Well, assisting a panel Friday ('taur and naga anatomy), and hosting a panel Sunday (watercolors). Hope to see some of you guys there!
Alright, probably not going to get any real internet time before I head out early Friday, so see you guys when I get back!
(I know this is rather blunt, quite tired at the moment.) :P

Odd +watch shenanigans.
Posted 14 years agoI've noticed recently getting +watches from folks I though already had me watched, and going to people's pages whom I could have sworn I had watched but didn't.
Is there some known bug with watching folks that causes this? Or am I just spacing out?

Great photography prints for sell!
Posted 14 years agoNot mine.
My good friend
dolph is selling some of his photography prints. It's some quality stuff, and there's plenty of beautiful shots of birds on there (quite a few close-up shots of raptors to boot). If you have a few bucks to spare and think his work is up to snuff, do him a solid and check out his available prints here:

Commission slots are filled!
Posted 15 years agoYup, all slots are taken as of now.
Opening 3 Commission Slots
Posted 15 years agoOk, things are starting to adjust at the new place, and I finished my old queue, so it's time to open some more commission slots!
... Now, I had two cheeky buggers sneak in some commission work before I managed to finish my previous batch (what can I say? I'm a whore who can't say no to money), so they'll be at the top of the list, but will not count towards the three slots I'm opening now.
Which, means I'm technically opening, five slots? With three effective slots available?
I don't know, whatever.
Good news, though! I'm adding more shit to my list that I'll do (for extra charge, of course. Money whore and all that...).
Also, this stuff is my only effective income atm, so this is what's feeding me 'til I get something part-time, so I'll be getting these out ASAP. The quicker I finish them, the quicker I can open up more :P

As far as subject matters I will/will not draw, just take a look through my gallery/scraps. If it's there, it's not taboo for me (for anything else, it can't hurt to ask). I might charge extra for things that squick me (assuming I take them at all, again I won't be offended by just asking) :P

seagullprophet, who is in possession of a scanner) I should have some new paintings and sketches posted. Yay!
Working on commissions again, and as soon as I finish up this last pic from before I'll be opening up more slots. Although, a couple folks managed to claim-jump some slots preemptively *coughs*.

Posted 15 years agoMoving into the new place is coming along, and should be finished by the time my two weeks are up at Sonic.
Most importantly, today Tara finally moved in.
*swoon* <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
She's still anxious about the new surroundings, but she's finally calmed down and snoozing nearby.
^.^
.....
Oh, btw, I'm moving. Probably should've, mentioned that before.
Means art's going to be slow for a little bit while I get adjusted.

Posted 15 years agoJust got back a few hours ago. Immediately took a nap. Exhausted.
But yeah, I'm back, safe and sound. Hope to see some of you folks I met out there here on FA real soon.
Peace out folks, still kinda tired :P Might write up a con report later, who knows!
