Worldcraft: Hiatus
Posted 13 years agoHello everyone,
It seems that Worldcraft has come to a grinding halt in the past few months. We started off very good, but after a few rounds, numbers started to dwindle. We can't keep running the rounds just for ourselves, so in order to refresh everything and start over we're taking a break.
With the holidays ahead, we decided to pause and re-work Worldcraft from the ground up.
This time around we'll stick to what we had in mind in the first place. A competition that adheres to a certain set of rules. A challenge that makes you think and not just fantasize about the aspects. Harsh worlds that require thought and insight if you want to have your creature survive.
With that in mind, we hope that the future relaunch of WorldCraft manages to draw in new people and makes it interesting again for our old members.
Due to several reasons (mostly real life related) we don't know when exactly we'll be able to relaunch the contest. We estimate it will be in the first quarter of 2012, so just keep an eye out of the word "worldcraft" in your inbox.
We hope to see you all back soon and, of course, happy holidays from all of us at Worldcraft.

Worldcraft: Halloween Winner + Round 8
Posted 14 years agoWelcome to Round 8 of Worldcraft!
Before we get started, the winner of our Halloween contest was
forgetfulsinner
There were a few misunderstandings about the contest, here as on DA, so that's why we decided that big chances will come to Worldcraft. More info on that at a later date.
But the chances will be big. Very big.
As before, you will have +/-3 weeks to work on an entry of your choice.
The deadline for this round is SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17TH at midnight PST.
1) Artists!
Do you want to join the contest in creating creatures, insects or environments?
Yes? Reply here so we can add you to the list of participants! (no notes)
2) Donators!
If anyone is willing to give the winner a prize (a free sketch or something) please contact us by sending a note.
Your icon will be added to our front page, along with what you will give the winner(s).
If we can’t find anyone willing to donate a prize, we’ll try to find something else to give our winner.
---
RULES
- Have fun! (Very important!)
- You have about three weeks to complete your entry.
- The deadline is December 17th.
- Once you’re ready, send us a NOTE with the link to your entry.
- The title of the note must be ENTRY 08.
- Every submission must be accompanied by a bit of text that describes how your creature lives, eats, etc. (Unless your submission is a story or a landscape, of course).
The description of your creature will also be judged and will count toward the points you receive, so be sure to put some effort into it!
- You may draw as many images as you wish, but you must specify which two you want judged. If you do not, two will be picked at random.
- Contestants can't be judges; it messes with the scoring system.
- You can make a sketch, line art, fully colored drawing with or without background, write a story featuring a creature, make something out of paper-mâché or sculpt something in clay
Anything goes! What you want make is completely up to you.
Although we encourage people to be creative in many different ways, there are some things we won't allow:
- Terrain generators (Terragen, Bryce, DAZ Studio, etc...)
- Pre-made characters (Second Life characters or environments, etc...)
These programs require no artistic skill since it generates everything itself.
It does require the ability to compose a beautiful scene or character, but that's not the point of this contest.
HOWEVER, we do not wish to be completely unfair towards those who like this kind of artwork.
If there is a large enough demand, we will expand our contest to include a separate section for computer generated artwork.
Currently we will not accept these types of entries.
The Planet
[information taken from Wikipedia.com]
Europa or Jupiter II, is the sixth closest moon of the planet Jupiter, and the smallest of its four Galilean satellites, but still one of the largest bodies in the Solar system.
Slightly smaller than Earth's Moon, Europa is primarily made of silicate rock and probably has an iron core. It has a tenuous atmosphere composed primarily of oxygen. Its surface is composed of ice and is one of the smoothest in the Solar System. This surface is striated by cracks and streaks, while craters are relatively infrequent. The apparent youth and smoothness of the surface have led to the hypothesis that a water ocean exists beneath it, which could conceivably serve as an abode for extraterrestrial life. This hypothesis proposes that heat energy from tidal flexing causes the ocean to remain liquid and drives geological activity similar to plate tectonics.
Creatures
- An advanced organism living near the vents, mainly feeding on an existing tubeworm-like species. [entry by Transapient]
- A type of filamentous, scum or lichen-like bacteria with a multitude of classes and functions. [entry by ArgentDandelion]
- Microscopic Leeches able to survive both the freezing cold and scalding heat the subterranean oceans have to offer.
- Parasitic planktons that attach itself to any kind of living organism.
- Small bioluminescent worms that live in hollow rocks and the smallest cracks in the seafloor.
Flora
- A type of plant-like organisms living close to underwater volcanoes, filtering the subterranean lakes.
Landscapes
- The jagged, icy landscapes with it’s host planet, Jupiter looming across the horizon
- A subterranean lake, with rock formations and algae growing on them.
---
When you send us your note, always mention your choice.
e.g.: Vermin2, Creature4, etc…
The deadline for your entries is Tuesday December 17th at midnight PST!
Entries submitted after the deadline will still be hosted in the gallery, but won’t be judged.

The planet
In a place where space and time itself have torn reality to shreds, a mysterious planet has drifted into our universe. How it got there and how it can exist, nobody knows.
Parallel universes or places where the laws of physics don’t apply are but a few of the theories one could think up.
First observations yielded stunning results, showing that everything on the planet had evolved according what we humans would call Halloween. They all seem to adhere to the Holiday, not just in looks but also in actions.
Due to the lack of scientific knowledge concerning these creatures, scientists have given them temporary code names based off of Halloween.
Inhabitants
1) “Scarecrow” – A creature that lies in ambush, seemingly dead, only to suddenly jump or yell to frighten its victim. It uses the moment of confusion to strike and capture its prey.
2) “Demon Pumpkin” – This flora has qualities that make it appear as though it has a jack-o'-lantern face and can be found all across the surface of the planet. This particular plant has evolved something of a nervous system, which seems to be compatible with most living organisms. Although almost all of these plants seem to be in a vegetative state, a very small number of these plants are 'awake' and will forcibly take over the victim. The tend to replace the victims head and use their bodies for their own purposes. We lost two of our top researchers in this manner.
3) “Ghost” – A creature so adept at blending in with it's environment, that it tends to 'disappear', leaving only its non-pigmented eyes visible. Because of this, most, if not all attempts to document its behavior have failed miserably. One moment it's there, the next it's gone… Just like the lab assistant Jerry, who was last seen trying to capture a Ghost near the barracks.
4) “Apple Bobber” – A strange creature found near one of the many dark lakes and rarely seen anywhere else. It’s favorite food is found in the water and seems to float about aimlessly. Using it’s head, it will try to catch these things, not always succeeding in the attempt. Due to the eerie vibe this planet gives, we decided to call it an ‘apple bobber’, referring to the game played during Halloween.
5) “Diviner” – Much of this planet is a mystery, including the bone yards found all over they land. Whether they are mass burial grounds of a species, or the hunting grounds of another, is still unknown. Dozens upon dozens of skeletal remains are found dotted throughout the landscape. Among these, we found a peculiar creature that seems to collect bones of a certain shape and size. It gathers and inspects each bone, before moving them to another area where it carefully gives each piece a place of its own, resulting in spectacular, if not morbid, displays. One of te older members of our exploration team seemed convinced that the creature was using the bones for divination purposes, but most of us are certain that it is nothing more than an elaborate stage for some sort of mating ritual. Nevertheless, the nickname Diviner stuck.
6) “Gluttony” – Despite this creature being rather small with apparently no natural weapons, this species defines what swarms are all about. Like a locust plague on Earth, these tiny creatures appear like a black cloud of death. While their numbers are mind boggling, it seems that they are in no hurry and can spend hours in a single area eating everything. Hazmat Team Delta, in charge of spearheading the research team, was engulfed by one such cloud of creatures. After 15 minutes of screaming, the coms finally stopped transmitting. Our tech officer claimed that it was a technical issue, which means we don't know exactly how long our fellow research team suffered as they were eaten alive. An armed squad was sent to investigate, but very little was found of the team. Mounds of these creatures bodies are steadily growing bigger, and it would appear that they have a very short lifespan that consists of a giant feeding frenzy followed by mating, and finally death.
7) “Bonfire” – A plant most commonly found near bone yards or places with a high corpse count. It seems capable of limited movements using its roots and, with the very same roots, has the ability to dig into the rotting meat. We assume it is able to absorb nutrients from the bodies to fuel one of its more interesting properties. Somehow the plant can create a chemical fire, which draws creatures towards it with its alluring light display. Whenever these creatures get to close, the plant turns the fire on them, and their charred bodies get added to the pile already surrounding the plant. The crispy pops that its victims make as they are cooked by the flame of the plant sounds not unlike a bonfire, and so we figure it an apt nickname for this plant.
8) “Guise” - This creature follows a herd until it can pick out and dispose of a straggler. Before eating its prey, however, it will carefully and methodically flay its kill and wear the skin itself. Disguised as such, it will then attempt to infiltrate the herd and pretend to be one of them, even going so far as to mimic the most common sounds heard. Once with the herd, it will only eat another member when its current disguise begins to show signs of wear and tear, in which it will drag off a new victim only to appear wearing their skin instead. It seems to be able to go without food for quite some time, though it is possible that it is an omnivore, and eats with the herd, further increasing its disguise. These creatures are solitary operators and, instead of a fixed territory, they have a fixed herd which they claim as their property.

Worldcraft: Halloween Special!
Posted 14 years agoDue to some Real Life complications, we didn't manage to get ready in time for the next round.
Because we don't want to rush things, we decided to make something a bit different and maybe slightly more entertaining. With all our planets so far, evolution and adaptation has been the main theme for pretty much everything.
So we want to get creative in a different way for a change and this is how it'll go:
In the next few days we will post a new round. This will be the very first Worldcraft Halloween Special.
The whole planet will have a creepy, supernatural Halloween theme going.
We're going to mix fantasy and reality, creating a planet where lifeforms evolved like they did on any other planet... howerver, each and every thing alive is linked to Halloween in one way or another.
The deadline will be October 30th and we'll hope you will enjoy this Holiday Themed round.
If people like it, we may expand it to other seasonal Holidays as well.

The Planet
Once a planet covered 95% by water has turned into a planet shrouded into a constant fog. The reason for this change is the host star of its system. As it began to enter the last stages of its life, it became much brighter and hotter. This caused the oceans to begin evaporating slowly.
For a yet unknown reason, the star burns out much slower than a regular star and has remained in this state for a few thousand years already. This slow change allowed the life forms on the planet to adapt as best as they could to the new conditions.
The lands and (what is left of the oceans) are now covered by a thick blanket of fog that never lifts. Visibility is only a few meters at best and because of the fog, sound travels faster than in normal environmental conditions, allowing creatures with a better developped senses the advantage.
Creatures
1) This herbivore is completely blind. Moving cautiously and slow, its lightning fast reflexes, senses and razor-sharp talons allow it to counter a possible attack by predators.
2) A small, fast critter the size of a rabbit. Unlike most animals, this one's eyes are evolved to the point where it can identify the faintest shadow on movement in the fog.
3) This animal and utilizes a sonar to navigate through the fog. A strangely developed organ in the throat however can amplify this sonar and make it a very effective hunting tool.
4) Despite the fog and general moisty environment, this killer's ability to detect scents has made it among the apex hunters on the planet. Only the fastest are able to escape it.
5) A creature that drinks the sap of trees and plants and converts it into a sticky resin-like substance. It uses this resin to cover itself with a makeshift armor. This ingenious critter also uses things from it's surrounding (leaves, stones, dead insects, fungi, bark, grass...) to camouflage itself with.
Vermin
1) Huge tick-like bugs that lay in wait for an unsuspecting opponent. Once close enough, a swarm of bugs will be able to pinpoint their victim's location through vibrations in the ground and jump onto in en masse. Smaller animals are drained of all blood and fluid in minutes, while taller ones can be severely weakened.
2) Like termites, these bugs build towers of dirt and mud. Unlike the ones on Earth however (who use the towering mound for ventilating the hive), they use these tunnels to cultivate a type on fungi that only grows in the conditions created inside this structure.
3) These rare insects are responsible for the spreading of a fast growing, but short lived fungus that thrives in the warm and damp climate of this planet. It's not unusual for a whole area to be temporary consumed by the fungi infection. The fungus itself lives inside the insects and sprout from their abdomen.
Flora
1) A plant gathering and storing the moisture in the air in gourd-like pods it grows at the end of it's leaves. Special enzymes give the water a sweet scented flavor and it tends to draw a lot of creatures towards it.
2) A plant that, even though it looks like a fern, is anything but friendly towards it environment. As a natural defense mechanism, it will lash out at anything it can sense through vibrations or touch. Venom-tipped barbs on its leaves ensure not many repeat the same mistake twice.

THE PLANET
This planet has formed around a young star and life managed to evolve and flourish at a steady pace. As with most planets forming, there was a lot of volcanic activity and it’s moon is quite large. This interaction of tidal forces causes the planet to feature very volcanically active periods at certain parts of the planet. Most notably and as expected, these are the areas where the tectonic plates are shifting the most. At the fault lines of the planet, volcanoes rise and fall; dominating the landscape with fire and ash.
Water has been around in great quantities and this causes a very surreal sight on the surface. Drenched and humid, the flora has evolved to take on a swamp-like characteristic.
Over time, the plants have evolved so that they started adapting even to the sulphurous fumes or acid rain that appear near the volcanoes. It’s therefore very common to see the land reclaim its place after an eruption at a very fast rate. How these plants can turn an arid place like a volcano’s slop into a lush morass is currently unknown.
Due to the volcanoes, both above as well as below the surface of the oceans, lots of water is being turned to steam which in turn rains down in massive storms. These storms saturate the soil and allow the vegetation to spread. Some swamps have been drastically transformed by the volcanoes near them, the sulfur transforming them into sulfuric acid pools whose fumes are deadly to nearly everything in the vacinity.
Although the volcanoes’ activity can blanket parts of the sky with thick clouds of ash, the plants and creatures have evolved to cope with longer periods of decreased temperature due to lack of sunlight. If anything, certain plants explosively grow during this time, due to an increase in nurtrients from the ash and the death of weaker competition.
Creatures
1) These creatures can only be found on active volcanoes. They live close near fissure vents and are seen mostly during eruptions.
2) Avian creatures built to dive and navigate through the web of vines and plants in swamps. Their favorite food is a species of grubs only found in the deepest regions of the swamp.
3) A creature that evolved long legs to navigate the treacherous swamps.
4) A serpentine predator with a highly venomous neurotoxin. It hunts on the slopes of volcanoes as well as the waters of the swamps.
5) A creature that drags its victims underwater to drown and devour them.
6) A rare and massive creature with a very slow metabolism; the swamp tends to grow over it when it hibernates.
7) A grazing organism that is built to survive the extreme heat and lack of resources when the volcano is active, but when the volcano is inactive and plants become bountiful, the grazers also reproduce and become bountiful; it's a typical r-strategist in an extreme environment.
8) One of the only organisms that can survive near the sulfuric acid pools, it has evolved to be able to breath the toxic air.
9) A glider that uses the thermals thrown off from the heat of the volcanoes to travel vast distances in search of food.
Vermin
1) An insectoid creature that looks terrifying. It is however completely harmless and lives from tree sap in the swamps.
2) A species of butterfly-like insect that takes a very long time to grow to adulthood. They spend the majority of their life as a small grub in the waters of the swamps. Although they grow slowly, they reproduce at an astonishing rate while still being at the larval stage.
3) A predatory insect that lays its eggs inside other creatures.
4) An amphibious invertebrate that attaches to its host body with suckers.
5) A small fish that travels in massive schools in the murky water of the swamps, its serrated scales lacerating any soft bodied creatures it swims past.
Flora
1) A strange plant that thrives on the cooled down magma. They are capable of storing great amounts of water.
2) A swamp tree that resembles one giant system of roots. It’s mostly found to be active after a great fire of volcanic eruption reclaiming the land.
3) Scrubbers. These tall spires grow high into the sky and keep the air clean. Despite being few in numbers, these massive plants can easily maintain the balance on the planet.
Landscape
1) The burning mountains. These super volcanoes erupt from the ground and spread death and decay all around with a fiery power.
2) The lush swamps that reclaim the land lost to fire and magma.
3) The sulfuric acid pools that appear when a volcano deposits to much sulfur into a swamp.
When you send us your note, always mention your choice.

The future of Worldcraft on FA.
Posted 14 years agoRound 5 of Worldcraft has come to a close and in our inbox we only received 1 entry.
The last round had two entries.
At this point, we don't know whether or not there's still a point in running Worldcraft as the general interest seems to be decreasing very fast.
We started this project with the idea that it would be a fun and interesting experience.
The first few rounds especially were quite amazing and we received amazing entries every time.
...But with the way things are, we don't know if there's any point in continuing here on FA.
Round 6 will start sometime next week as the voting will once again take place on DA.
The poll will go up either today or tomorrow and the winners will be announced shortly.

Worldcraft Round 5
Posted 14 years agoAnd so we're starting Round 5 of Worldcraft.
We've let you the choice of choosing between 4 different planets and eventually the 'Pitch Black' planet was chosen to feature in Round 5. This poll was hosted on DA, as we mentioned in a previous journal.
Being the planet based on the movie Pitch Black, I hope you all understand that there will obviously be less choices this time around.
On the bright side, you'll be able to let your fantasy and imagination run crazy and create the ultimate survivor/hunter lifeform!
We're looking forward to see what you can come up with.
So what do we need this round?
- The deadline is Friday, July 29th at midnight.
- Once you’re ready, send us a NOTE with the link to your entry.
- The title of the note must be ENTRY 05.
Currently we will not accept this type of entries.
THE PLANET
A planet that appears lifeless, but first appearances are deceiving. What was once a flourishing planet is now barely holding onto its status as inhabitable. At first glance, there is none. Above ground, there is very little. Underground, there isn't much more. Water is completely absent on the surface, but a couple underground rivers allow for a select few plants to barely survive.
CREATURES
1) The reason that the planet is so dead. This species is responsible for the extinction of nearly all flora and fauna on the planet.
VERMIN
1) Although it looks nothing like it, it is actually the young of the above creature. It parasitically feeds off its parents until it reaches sexual maturity.
FLORA
1) Living deep in the cracks of rocks and earth, this plant extends parts of itself during the day to feed from the sunlight.
2) Surviving only due to its immense mass, this plant is made up of a series of root systems not unlike Earth's grass, but on a much larger scale, usually found above underwater rivers. What shows above the surface is misleading as to its actual size.
3) This plant has managed to form a symbiotic relationship with a small population of the creatures.
LANDSCAPE
1) What you think the landscape might look like.

Round FOUR: Over
Posted 14 years agoAnd here we are again.
Round four has come to a close and we'll shortly be announcing the winners and the plans for Round FIVE.
I said shortly as there are only two entries this time. Two great entries though, so make sure to check them out!
Again, I would like to ask that, if possible, people would post feedback on how to improve Worldcraft.
If there's anything that should be done on our side to make it more interesting, don't hesitate to post a message!

As before, you will have 3 weeks to work on an entry of your choice. The deadline for this round is SATURDAY, JUNE 25TH.
RULES
- Have fun! (Very important!)
- You have about three weeks to complete your entry.
- The deadline is June 25th.
- Once you’re ready, send us a NOTE with the link to your entry.
- The title of the note must be ENTRY 04.

THE PLANET
A gas giant is a massive planet with a thick atmosphere and a dense molten core.
Gas giants are commonly said to lack solid surfaces, but it is closer to the truth to say that they lack surfaces altogether since the gases that make them up simply become thinner and thinner with increasing distance from the planets' centre, eventually becoming indistinguishable from the interstellar medium.
This gas giant is amongst the strangest of it’s kind.
Due to it’s composition, it’s a host for the most strange creatures encountered in this universe.
It’s colourful surface betrays the different gasses that move across it’s surface.
Lightning strikes arcing between clouds of gas are a common sight along with massive storms that, like massive waves rage through the planet.
The gas giant’s equator has to endure the fiercest of storms. Above and below the equator are calm zones, featuring a more diverse fauna.
Surrounding the gas giant is a ring of icy comets and dust like Saturn.
Creatures
1) A creature that floats in the upper layers of the gas giant.
2) A creature that travels between the gas giant and it’s icy rings for nourishment.
3) An enormous monster that resides deep in the gas giant’s layers and is mostly dormant, only ‘surfacing’ from below when in a feeding frenzy.
4) A critter that thrives only in the deepest of storms, absorbing the power from the lightning storms in order to survive.
5) A sluggish, floating creature that harvests the clouds of gas and serves as a feeding ground for smaller creatures.
6) A very fast pack hunter that slithers through the thick clouds, ambushing unaware prey.
Flora
1) In the icy rings surrounding the gas giant, an extremophile bacteria has evolved into a fungi-like organism, feeding off the icy rock and sunlight.
Landscape
1) A portrait of this colourful gas giant with it’s many rings and several small moons.
Vermin
1) Small energetic pests that, like leeches, feed from other creatures.
2) Energetic little wisps that comes in many different shapes. They are the ‘plankton’ of this gas giant.
When you send us your note, always write down your choice.
e.g.: Vermin2, Creature4, etc…
The deadline for your entries is Saturday JUNE 25TH at midnight!
Entries submitted after the deadline will still be faved and hosted, but won’t be judged.

Worldcraft: Public Planet Poll (+ give suggestions!)
Posted 14 years agoAs said, we're doing things a little differently this time! We're hoping to get you, our Watchers, more involved with this Group. So, we've decided to ask you to pick next rounds planet! We've thought up four planets, and you can choose which ones you'd like best. If you only like one, vote for it; if you like three, vote for all three. The planet with majority will be which will be used next round.
Also, if you have ideas of other planets you would like to see, or flora, fauna and landscapes you'd like to see on one of the ones up for voting, feel completely free to share! :)
That said, here's what we've brainstormed:
A) Technological evolved planet.
Once inhabited by a highly evolved civilization but for some unknown reason, they and every biological life form vanished from the face of the planet one day.
The computers evolved on their own, creating their own species and began re-populating the planet in their own vision.
B) Invertebrate planet.
Nothing with a backbone is to be found anywhere on this planet. The oxygen level is too low for large animals to evolve, and the plant life is sparse.
C) Gas giant planet.
One of the most peculiar gas giants in existance. This mass of gasses hosts a substantial amount of lifeforms who live within it's outer regions. Each one different from one another, but all have several things in common.
D) 'Pitch Black' planet.
A seemingly dead planet. No life, no plants, no water above ground. One species is responsible for this. They are the only survivors, and exist primarily underground. There are a few plants, but they hide, barely surviving.
So, comment below to vote for your favorites, and don't forget to offer your own ideas :)

Worldcraft Round 3: WINNERS! (+important info)
Posted 14 years agoAs mentioned before, the round started off slow but in the last few days we received some real nice artwork.
We're very happy with the results, seeing that everyone made some interesting artwork.
As before we, Balitiger23 and Exequias, don't enter our drawings into the competition.
We would like to stress again that this 'contest' is aimed at having fun.
To do something else than what you're used to. Something different, something new.
On to business then.
Even though there are only two prizes available, we'll still present you our three winning artists.
The entries were judged on many different points: artwork, details, originality and its description being just a few of them.
First place:
Larkspurdragon with Dentatodorsus Terribilis (link)
Second place:
webster with Underwater Tube Fungus (link)
Third place:
Elessara with The Habyan (link)
BEFORE YOU LEAVE I would like to say that TOMORROW we'll start the Public Planet Poll!
Please remember that EVERYONE will be allowed to vote for next round's planet!
We hope to see you then.

Round THREE: OVER (+feedback thread!)
Posted 14 years agoThe round started off a bit rough, but in the end we got some great entries! Awesome job everyone :)
Later on today we will choose the winners of this round ourselves rather than using judges. So far our choices have matched up with our judges, and so we're confident in our ability to be fair. Besides, this contest is not about winning or losing, but having fun!
We will be posting a Journal asking you, our viewers, to vote on your favorite planet idea out of a list as well as offer ideas on the sorts of prompts that we could offer for said planets. Trying to make this more interactive and fun for all our Watchers, whether you make an entry or not. We're also discussing the possibility of a mini-contest, but that is still very much in the works, so keep an eye out in the future.
Finally, be sure to leave us feedback so that we may continue to improve this group. This round we had a lot less interest - why? What could we have done better? What could be improved? Leave your answers in the comments below!

Worldcraft: ROUND THREE!
Posted 14 years agoWelcome to Round THREE of Worldcraft!
As before we’ll give you a planet and several creature or environment choices, but first there’s something else we wish to address.
We are currently trying to figure out a way to get more people involved with Worldcraft.
One way to do this will be the ‘Public Planet Vote’ option that will help deciding the next planet.
About a week before the end of Round THREE we’ll post a new journal with 4 to 6 different planets.
At that point EVERYONE, watchers and contestants alike, can cast one (or two) votes for the planet(s) they would like to see in the next round.
The planet receiving the most votes will be featured in the next round.
In the event of a draw we’ll either toss a coin or use our god-like planet creation powers to fuse the winning planets.
There are other ideas floating around but this one is the first we will use!
We also would like to thank the contributors for rounds ONE and TWO.
Honestly, thank you very much for the time and effort you all dedicated to our little contest.
We truly appreciate this because without your generosity, this contest wouldn’t be the same!
Now then, what or who do we need this time around?
1) Artists!
Do you want to join the contest in creating creatures, insects or environments?
Yes? Reply here so we can add you to the list of participants! (no notes)
2)Judges!
Do you like art a lot? We'll need people who are willing to judge the submission for each contest and give it a fair and just rating.
As above, reply here so we can add you to the appropriate list. We currently have 1 judge, so three more would be perfect.
We are going to try a different judging method this round. Please stay tuned for an announcement concerning the judging of artwork!
3) Donators!
If anyone is willing to give the winner a prize (a free sketch or something) please contact us by sending a note.
Your icon will be added to our front page, along with what you will give the winner(s).
If we can’t find anyone willing to donate a prize, we’ll try to find something else to give our winner.
RULES
- Have fun! (Very important!)
- You have about three weeks to complete your entry.
- The deadline is May 26th.
- Once you’re ready, send us a NOTE with the link to your entry.
- The title of the note must be ENTRY 03.
UPDATE!
Currently we will not accept this type of entries.
PLANET
I hope you like blue, because this planet is literally a water planet.
The planet has a strong magnetic field that protects it’s surface against the destructive power of its star.
Having formed in a specific part of the universe with an abundance of water vapor and millions of frigid comets caused the surface of the planet to be covered with water.
Only the highest of mountains and volcanoes manage to emerge from the water.
With the absence of land and plant life on solid ground above water, several organisms have evolved in order to take up a similar spot in the planet’s ecosystem.
In order to take advantage of the star’s light, they formed huge patches of floating plants. In some areas, they even create massive floating forests of shrubbery and larger plants.
Although described as ‘forests’, there are no animals on the planet to actually use them as such. At best, they are flocked with insects or other small bugs.
The three moons around the massive planet keep it in a fairly stable orbit and angle.
Along with the planet’s elliptical orbit we can assume that, like on Earth, the planet experiences seasons.
The poles are covered in immense sheets of ice all through the year. The planetary system is fairly young and life seems to have difficulties to survive and adapt to the icy climate at the poles.
Creatures
1- A voracious fish with a snake-like body.
2- Small fish that can ‘fly’ by mixing chemicals inside its body to create a gas lighter than air in order to escape predators.
Some may explode.
3- A terrifying fish: the top predator on the food chain. This monster has no natural enemies.
4- A big and slow mammal using intense sonic vibrations to disorient prey so it can easily gobble it whole.
Invertebrates
1- Heavily armored sea slugs.
2- A crustacean with a claw that incorporates a stabbing mechanism to hunt and defend itself.
3- A carnivore sea anemone that actively hunts small prey.
4- A massive jellyfish that uses tentacles to feed itself.
Vermin
1- An insect that spend the majority of its life under the water’s edge as a larva and matures into a winged insect only to mate, lay eggs and die.
2- A leech-like organism that attacks creatures en masse, sometimes killing it’s larger host in the process.
Flora
1- A polyp colony that thrives on the shells of crustacean-like species, becoming coral-like once its host dies.
2- A harmless short-lived string fungus covering the bottom of the sea with spiderweb patterns, serving as food for many other creatures.
Landscape
1- A reef with the most colorful coral formations you can imagine.
2- Oceanic sunset featuring the planet's star and 2 neighboring planets.
3- A turbulent sea during a super storm. Giant waterspouts and massive waves all around.
When you send us your note, always write down your choice.
e.g.: Flora2, Creature4, etc…

There are other ideas floating around but this one is the first we will use!
We also would like to thank the contributors for rounds ONE and TWO.
Honestly, thank you very much for the time and effort you all dedicated to our little contest.
We truly appreciate this because without your generosity, this contest wouldn’t be the same!
Now then, what or who do we need this time around?
1) Artists!
Do you want to join the contest in creating creatures, insects or environments?
Yes? Reply here so we can add you to the list of participants! (no notes)
2)

UPDATE!

The deadline for your entries is Thursday MAY 26TH at midnight!
Entries submitted after the deadline will still be faved and hosted, but won’t be judged.
HAVE FUN!

Worldcraft Round 2: WINNERS!
Posted 14 years agoAnother fantastic round is done, and after a minor mix up in the judges scores (it was quickly fixed, no worries!), we have the winners of this round for you all.
Congratulations to ta-ek, who wins first place with her entry of a plant that is found exclusively in the subterranean water canals, and to hivemindfury, who lands second place with his entry of a plant capable of near miraculous growth, choking out the competition.
Thanks to everyone else who entered! This planet was tougher than the last, yet we still got lots of entries. We have plans in the future to further get those who Watch this Group to participate, as well as allow you all to have more of a say in future rounds. But you'll learn about that after next round ;)
So that's that! Next planet will be posted up later today, and I hope to see you all - and more - next round!
