Posted 12 years agoA few months back I posted pictures of my horse, Champ, and commented at length on the condition he was in. Well, it turned out that that on October 31, 2013 he was put to sleep. My dad called me last night while I was at dinner with my boyfriend and so many other friends. I broke down right there. I ran towards the nearest spot to just kneel down and cry. TJ, my boyfriend, rushed to my side and held me for a long while as I just wept.
Some people might not understand the bond between a Rider and her Horse. Most never will. But that bond, from the moment it is formed, is a wonderful thing. There is nothing like it and there can be nothing that will duplicate it. Feeling the raw power under you, moving with your thoughts and your own body, being one with the other... It is something that you truly must feel in order to understand.
The first time I meet Champ, he was at my school's October Fest. The woman that brought him ended up being someone my Dad went to high school with. I met her daughter, Angela, and we just.... clicked. I loved Champ from the moment I saw him. This huge, powerful, palomino gelding. Muscles jumped under his skin at the slightest of landings from flies. He was the leader. He was so amazing to watch. So much so that Ms. Ginger asked if I wanted to help out with them giving pony rides for the rest of the day and the day after.
You could say it was then that I was hooked. I became not only passionate about Champ, but about horses. I soaked up whatever information I could. Champ was not always the best horse. I spend the first six months that I owned him reminding him that I was the one that would make him listen. That he would not buck me off. And if he did, I was getting back on him and going again. There were times that I came off his back and that horse stood over me to make sure that I was not trampled by the others behind us. There were times that I came off of him and he would just keep going. No matter what, I returned to his back.
I did this for ten years. In that time span Champ became a horse that I not only loved, but respected. He became the horse that I would put children on that were nervous or upset about riding. He is the horse that made the confidence of his rider grow. By the time that rider moved on to their own horse, whom I had been working with while they rode Champ, they were a much more confident rider and it was just magic.
As time went, I became an adult. I had to spend less time working with my old horse and more time working on... work. Then I moved. I last saw Champ at Thanksgiving 2009 when I went back home. That was the last time I saw him. I am going back home for Thanksgiving this year, and I was so excited to see him again. I mean, I was like this little girl in the puppy store picking out her first pet. For seventeen years this horse has been a part of my life. He listened when no one else would. He was my shoulder to cry on at times. He even dealt with me showing up at the barn at 2am and going for a ride bare back with on the full moon as light to guide us.
He touched so many peoples' lives, and he was such a huge part of mine. I would not be the woman that I am today without him having made me a better person. I love and miss him so very much. One day, one day I'll join him. And day comes we will burn up the sky as we race through the clouds. Everyone says they have a guardian angel. Mine just happens to be a horse named Champ. I love you old man.

"Ya know, I think I finally got out of my funk. Took me four years, a move to Kentucky, a crappy job and some good friends here, but I'm finally ready for the next stage in my life. And I just can't wait to see where it takes me.

I'm over you, (omits a certain name) It's taken me this long to finally admit it, but I think I'm to that point at long last. Fours years and some months after our break up, and I can say it and mean it. I've hung on to the ghost for too long. Let it rule me and kept myself in a deep, dark depression. Thank goodness for my family and my friends and for those that truly love me for me.
I'm loving life again, I'm smiling all the time and I'm not going through with just a mask on any more. I'm no longer weighed down by the choices I should have made, but I'm dealing with the ones that I have made.
Thank you to the ones that have been there with me through these last four years. It's meant a great deal to me that I'll never be able to express. Bring on the next step in my life. I'll be a much happier person, not just faking the smile anymore. You get the Ashley you have all known. It's really me now, not that faker.

IN having all that out there, I believe that I am ready to start dipping my toes back into Fur Cons. Just need to figure out which ones I wanna go to. RCFM was my very first con way back in like... 05 or 06. So I might just start with that one. And why not? My roommates are both working for the con as is a friend of mine. Would be rather easy to just go with them. Something I'll have to think about. I'll see. *thumbs up*

Posted 13 years agoI'm looking for someone that can draw both bears and horses rather well. Or at least someone that is comfortable with them. I know not every artist enjoys drawing a horse. I've heard enough fussing about them. *Is such a pain to draw*

One Light Less in the World
Posted 14 years agoRight now, it is currently 12:06 am, September 12, 2011. At 6:00 pm September 11, 2011 my grandmother that I've known for 26 years passed away. She was there the day I was born, and yet I was not there the day she took her last breath. I feel like I was selfish in moving to Kentucky two years ago. Even though i could not see this coming.
So now, I attempt to find a way to go home to see my family. And to be there to tell my grandmother, the only one I knew, goodbye for the last time. I'm thankful I got to see her back in April. But that does not change the fact that I should have been there for her.
I love you Mawmaw, please forgive me. Hope to see you again someday.

Posted 14 years agoDoes anyone remember the deck of cards that Blotch put out a few years back? The Kennel Club deck as it was called. 500 decks were printed, which I ended up getting 187/500. Pretty nifty. But here's my real question: Would anyone be interested in buying the deck off me? I've hardly looked at it since I got it back at Oklacon '07. The box is a bit beat up on the corners from my moving, but the deck is in great shape. I've never played with them, I think I only took the cards out of the box like twice. Other then that the deck has stayed in the box in the top drawer of my dresser.
As I've not even taken these cards out in over three years to even look at the box, I don't see the point in keeping them. I'd rather let the deck go to someone that will take care of it and at the very least display it as it should be. Not stuffed in my drawer.

Your RCFM Volunteer Staff is still looking for a few good furs that are willing to help out this year at RCFM.
Volunteers are needed in the following areas:
* Security
~ Will help patrol the hotel to see that there are no problems during the Meet.
~ Will add up volunteer hours by basically hanging out.
~ Get a cool badge add-on.
~ Get great satisfaction from helpping us make the Meet happen!
~ Will make Alex and Setsu VERY happy, and that makes everyfur happy.
* Gophers
~ Will help out with miscellaneous chores all around the Meet.
~ Will add up volunteer hours probably doing many different takes.
~ Get a cool badge add-on.
~ Get great satisfaction from helping us make the Meet happen!
If you are the kind of fur that likes to help out awesome, we need you. Not is you are not a gopher, we do need a few good gazelles as well.
* Morning Furs
~ Get to wake up early, just the way you like it.
~ Need to check the morning events to see if the relevant rooms are ready.
~ Only have to work half days.
~ Get a key to the Head Cat’s room to wake him up.
~ Have the chance to see at least three sunrises and get volunteer hours for it.
* Game Masters
~ Must run one or more roleplaying games in the game room.
~ Must laugh at the heady power as the hardy adventurers writhe in his clutches.
You could be asking yourself what the rewards are for working with us this year. Well, I have an answer. If you work four five hours you get a nifty RCFM mousepad. If you work for ten hours there is an awesome t-shirt that is designed just for volunteers. But if you log a slammin’ fifteen hours then you get to come to RCFM 2010 for FREE! Not to mention that you would have the gratitude of the volunteer staff and the other staff members.

Posted 17 years agoBeen here since noon yesterday. I'm depressed and trying to not sleep all the time away. Reason I'm depressed? Eratu and I broke up yesterday evening. So yes, I'm a bit upset and I have been sleeping most of the day.
I don't want this con to be a bad thing, I want to have fun, I'm just having a really difficult time doing that right now. Once I'm out of this room you see the happy, bouncy Xanny. But get me in the room and I'm every withdrawn and trying to keep to myself.
And I HATE being emo, but there are times where it can't be helped. Right now is one of those times. If anyone sees this and wants to come talk to me, I need snuggles, and you are at MFM I'm in room329. Right behind the bar. Someone must have been a physic and knew what was going to happen. ^-^

Posted 17 years agoHahaha… Our Governor has screwed himself over for the next four years. Our legislature wanted to pass a bill that would give them a pay raise. They just passed one for themselves either last year or the year before. Anyway, Governor Bobby Jindal said before he was elected to office that he would not support a pay raise for our legislature. Alright, good boy.
Well, over the past week or so he said that he would not veto the bill, which means… You guessed it, he went back on his word. Shocking isn’t it? So over the past few days voters have been calling in and getting the recall packets. Right now they are going after four legislative members and Jindal himself. Well, in order to make himself look better, Mr. Jindal vetoed the bill yesterday around noon. Wonderful how politicians will fillip flop as quickly as they do.
But remember, there is still that recall packet out there to get Jindal out of office. And I quote from the Advocate, “The Secretary of State's Office issued a correction Monday on the number of voters whose signatures are needed to force a recall: one-third of voters deemed "active" by election officials.” But here is the thing, and kinda side with my dad on this one. Anything Jindal wishes to pass through the legislature he will not get it passed. They will be sore for the next four years. BUT, who says that the next guys is going to be any better? One of the two lesser evils. Man I love politics -_- We shall see how this pans out.
